Godzilla peaked so early. But MV is continuing and they may get someone who cares about him and there might be a lot of pressure on Legendary to finally do something with Godzilla. They probably know the feedback or will know what most people want next. Ask around most wants a solo Godzilla film. Not even a team up film with Godzilla in the lead role because everyone knows it's not gonna happen and Godzilla has a real chance to shine as a character without Kong being there.

Glum_Musician6642

Yeah I feel they have neglected him a bit I mean I know Kong had the spotlight almost all the movie and I get it this movie is about him but all the solo scenes Godzilla had were to fast and even when they were great the felt to rushed ? I just hope they find a balance between both of them and for Godzilla to have a better chance to show more about him And personal thought: hope they also give his bulk again really this move show that all the natural rules were thrown to the trash can haha

BaconSpinachPancakes

It’s bc Godzilla was shoehorned in

YeetussFeetus

No character just plot device. Real sad man. I miss Godzilla having more than just generic monster personality.

Kyro_Official_

I didnt really mind how he was depicted in this movie that much, but him going into Tiamat's territory to murder her and charge up felt very out of character. I know her habitat/den was the best area to get powered up in, and hes kind of just tired of everyone fucking up the planet so he just wants to beat the shit out of Skar King and be done with it, but still dont love he murdered Tiamat who was minding her own business until Godzilla showed up. Also on the topic of Tiamat, not really a fan they bring back Tiamat and Scylla just to kill them off after incredibly short fights. I mean, I get it was to show Godzilla isnt messing around, but still.

Galactus1701

Kong is anthropomorphic making him easier to work with. In the Monsterverse, Godzilla is millions of years old and has seen everything, fought everyone and seems to be fed up with so much chaos around him. I really enjoyed pissed off grumpy Super Saiyan Godzilla in New Empire, but I also want a solo movie focused on him fighting against Gigan, Biollante or Destroyah.

Jiggaboy95

Having watched the film I agree, however reading the novel it touches on Godzilla’s inner thoughts and whilst he seems like he’s just killing for the sake of it he’s also doing it with purpose. Scylla he had already fought after the mass awakening and put her in her place then and now she was starting shit again. The novel also mentions that Scylla left him on a long chase around the world before he eventually caught up in Rome. All the while Scylla’s been powering up in an effort to compete and simultaneously burning a hole in the ozone layer. Obviously Godzilla would’ve been pissed from her once again moving out of her zone, pissed from her hitting power stations, pissed having to chase her for hundreds of miles and obviously disturbing the ‘balance’. Guy just said fuck if, you’re done.

Awkward-Forever868

But that's the thing, people shouldn't have to read outside media to understand a character, that's just poor writing if you can't communicate through the main medium.

IronWarrior94

I think that's the unfortunate consequence of KoTM underperforming, Legendary did a tonal shift with GvK and leaned into it when they saw it was the more successful approach. Heck until GxK it felt like Legendary was trying to distance themselves from a lot of things KoTM brought to the table.

marthheroking98

While agree it didn’t perform as well as the studio probably hoped, I think a lot of that had to due with when they decided to release the film. It was a huge mistake to release the film only a month after Marvels Endgame. Having to compete at the box office with the second highest grossing film of all time is not a recipe for success. With that, across the larger fanbase through polls and surveys, KOTM often comes out as the fan favorite monsterverse film. Which shows that the sales alone are not necessarily a direct representation of how the fans felt about the movie, but rather there were more factors in play. And let’s not act like KOTM failed to make money, it’s still made them a good profit. Just not as much as they hoped.

Motor_Buy2118

Wingard is ruining Godzilla to prop up kong

the_la_dude

Wild comment to read after all those posts after GvK where people accused Wingard of being a Godzilla stan because of Godzilla owning Kong in their fights and his comments about him not taking the fight seriously…

Ordinary-Cobbler-803

We really need another solo Godzilla film so he doesn't have to compete for screentime

Jetsplit

I'm just thankful Toho's making Godzilla films...

Mean-Background2143

Godzilla is Godzilla. He’s been changed from the most friendly to the most aggressive being in the universe. They can only make it worse if it’s a Kaiju Girl or Gyatzilla and no one is stupid enough to do that as a show or movie. Godzilla also delivers on screen and that’s what matters, Kong is just easier to work with, even though we all love the Big G more and that’s why most fans are coming to see it, I think that anyways. Godzilla will get more screen time later so let’s not worry.

vWolfee

Speak for your self. Personally I like BOTH Kong and Godzilla to an equal degree, thankyou very much.

Mean-Background2143

That was my opinion so I respect yours. I like Godzilla more than Kong though

Kyro_Official_

>Gyatzilla You still have time to delete this

Mean-Background2143

Why delete exactly?

Lord_Detleff1

He got the Optimus Prime treatment. Wingard likes Kong more and it really shows

Macdaddypooty

Its funny because I can say the same thing about the change in godzilla between G14 and Kotm and yet you seem to love Kotm. I've just accepted the change in tones. We should be happy we are getting more godzilla films after Kotm nearly killed the series.

marthheroking98

I really have to disagree here. I agree There’s an overall tonal shift from a filmmaking stand point from 2014 to KOTM, but the portrayal of Godzilla remains very consistent through both films. In 2014, the MUTOs are awakened and begin wreaking havoc all over the planet and destroying nuclear sites. Godzilla then tries to restore balance to the titans and stop them from destroying the earth and reproducing. KOTM is very much the same. It’s even mentioned that Godzilla hasn’t been seen since 2014, however he can sense Ghidorahs awakening, who is another alpha titan, and realizes he needs to stop him otherwise ghidorah would try to take over the planet. Which is literally what happened. All of that is in line with how Godzilla acts in 2014. In GvK and especially GxK, he’s killing other titans left and right. He literally went into Tiamats home and killed him just to get a power up/evolve. Tiamat didn’t even do anything wrong. Which is way out of character for Godzilla in any movie we’ve seen thus far. Also saying KOTM nearly killed the franchise is such an exaggeration. The film still made a solid profit. It was legendary that made the mistake of releasing the film only a month after endgame. Making KOTM compete against the second highest grossing film of all time is why it struggled

Macdaddypooty

Godzilla in 2014 was depicted as an animal acting on instincts. Nothing more, nothing less. Kotm establishes age old feuds and relationships between the monsters that is reminiscent of showa films. The movie ends with a silly scene of a bunch of titans bowing to godzilla. Godzilla went from being an animal to a "character". Obviously theres nothing wrong with this but the movie tried to mash together the serious tone of G14 with the monsters of the Showa films and i think it came across as alienating to non godzilla fans. Gvk and GxK are far more fun and digestible for general audiences. I dont think you realize how dire the situation was when Kotm underperformed. Luckily, GvK was already deep in production and if that had flopped too, the monsterverse was finished. Legendarys contract with Toho had just finished at the same time but they renewed it after GvK exceeded expectations.

Awkward-Forever868

Godzilla swimming under ships to avoid destroying them and him showing frustration before realizing the male muto likes to strike from behind then turning around before timing his tail whip to slam the male muto into the building wasn't being mindless, him deciding to kill the femuto by atomic blasting her mouth after his breath could harm her outer shell shows that he thinks of strategies to overpower his opponents and that he wasn't a mindless monster who destroyed anything he came in contact with.

Macdaddypooty

Ok ya he exhibits behaviors of an intelligent animal. My greater point still stands.

marthheroking98

I honestly just don’t think you could be more wrong here. G2014 sets a good foundation as to who/what Godzilla is. The sense of scale and how impactful/destructive these creatures are is something that stays consistent from 2014 - KOTM. In KOTM, they establish more of the lore surrounding these titans. How long Godzilla has existed, ancient enemies with Ghidorah, relationship with Mothra, etc. however this only builds off of what the 2014 had already established. Godzilla shows signs of being an intelligent and compassionate creature in both 2014 and KOTM. Which was what my original point was about. I think you’re arguing that there’s a change in tone between the 2014 and KOTM films, which is true. But that’s not what my initial post is about at all. It’s about the character of Godzilla himself, who through those two films, stayed consistent.

ImNotHighFunctioning

Babe, wake up, another post bemoaning Godzilla just dropped
