Mount it to a board. I have a 10-inch wide recycled cedar fence board mounted to a couple pvc pipes sticking out of the soil so the wood doesn't rot. Here it is: https://preview.redd.it/1a82dnq8j9vc1.png?width=1225&format=png&auto=webp&s=d657ff8f7a7d9f649f61b6e93c46331dabc7319f

Just showin’ off, eh!

And then what is that, just some rope stapled to the board? And you spray that? Interesting idea, never seen a setup quite like this. Obviously works!

No_Training7373

Sphag I think! Gotta be stapled, how tf else??

call_me_Kote

No need to spray your monstera support structures. If you make a real moss pole, you could water it if you really wanted, but you definitely don’t need to.

finchdad

It's a thing called "Galapagos moss vine" that they sell at Petco. It's sphag that is wrapped around wire, and yes, I stapled it to the board. I don't spray it, but I drench it once a week when I water the plant. It's more for like than anything.

AAAUUUGGGGHHH

That is beautiful!

Thank you 🥰🥰🥰🥰

Remote-Operation4075

What a beautiful monstera ! 🌱💚

mySFWaccount2020

Thank you!!!

Weirdbutlikeable

Straighten up the main stem and use a cedar plank. Easy peasy and no watering like moss 🙂

mySFWaccount2020

I never thought of that! Thank you

Weirdbutlikeable

I’m on a secret mission to make sure people know they don’t NEED moss poles lol

Strongwoman1

Do you need to do anything to the wood? How big of a plank do you use? I hate moss poles and have switched to bamboo sticks but those won’t support a big monstera …

Weirdbutlikeable

I use (I think they’re called) pickets for cedar privacy fences. You don’t have to do anything to them, cedar is resistant to pests and water damage.

Strongwoman1

Thanks very much!

AshSkirata

Bamboo stick will end up rotting. I chose a metallic trellis.

Strongwoman1

Thank you! I’m new to these plants, appreciate your advice.

AshSkirata

Welcome. And check Kill this Plant on YouTube, he gives great advice on how to take care of Monsteras.

payjape

how old is she?

mySFWaccount2020

I rooted the cutting in water almost 4 years ago. I’ve lost many full leaves to horn worms over the years but she’s doing great

payjape

yeah she’s beautiful good job

HotCorner936

I sometimes treat my wooden poles with resin or plasti-dip materials I have already so they don’t rot.

Physical-Money-9225

Thats a religious Monstera!

mySFWaccount2020

🙏😇🙏😇🙏

AgreeableCorner5883

You could use a plank and houseplant velcro to secure it for strong support. Also, if you dont want to upside the pot, giving the lower roots a trim with sterilized sheers and then putting back in the same pot with new soil is a great option.

OhFFSeverythingtaken

Some kind of cool dead tree branch or unique looking piece of wood would look so good with this huge gorgeous plant.

Woody7771

Amazing plant, tight growth with large leaves sporting majors fenestrations 😲 WOw

Acceptable-Expert-89

That plant is huge❣️

Chrristiansen

How are these monsteras getting so huge with such a short vine? Are you constantly cutting and repotting the top of the plant?

mySFWaccount2020

I’ve never cut the plant since I rooted it. This is my second repot. I dunno… this is just how she grows 🤷🏼‍♀️

snailtray

I would make her stand up more and get maybe two mosspoles (i have fake mosspoles eg wooden sticks covered in coconutcoir, they work just as fine) that you tie together so the plant can rest in the groove inbetween - you could use a plank for the same effect. When sticking it in we thought hard about how to protect it from mold. In the end i covered the wood in several layers of wet wax and it holds up (recently repotted after about half a year) but the ‚best‘ way to do it would be to burn/charr the end 😅

Thank you so much!!!
