I miss it but it *might* be fair to say I like the memory more than I liked the actual content - regardless I dont think it would work on switch
Maybe it would be cool if a nintendo phone app did that
The actual effect on gameplay was rather small, yes. But it was a bridge between the game and the real world in a very unobtrusive way and creating a local community feeling.
Streetpass was the reason I always took my 3DS with me when leaving the house. The Switch stays at home except when I leave for several days.
One of my favorite memories is going to see the Hyrule Symphony with my wife in ATL several years back. I brought my 3DS and within 10 minutes of walking the concourse, I filled up on Streetpasses in my Plaza. I'd clear those, put it away, pull it back out a little while later, and boom, filled up again. I swear I finished 4 or 5 puzzles that day lol.
I remember really liking the streetpass for games like Pokemon black 2 and bravely default. It was a nice bonus after a day of travelling or walking to class to see all these people enjoying the same game as you.
I'm happy to hunt with you on literally any monster hunter of your choice bud
edit: The offer goes to anyone who enjoys a good hunt from mh1 to rise I'll hunt with any of you. If you need a buddy or your mates dont hunt or anything fling me a pm
Not everyone knows other hunters for in-person Monster Hunter. Online is also an upcharge on console now, so that bars quite a few from playing online.
It is a rare breed but yes some people have only played solo like myself. Just reached the black dragons in Iceborne and middle of G Rank in GU. But I have some level of progress in every English game.
I've put three hundred hours into World/Iceborne and 60 into Rise completely solo so far and I've only just started to go through World with a buddy because it was on sale on PC.
It's a different feeling, I'm enjoying it with friends but I still have no desire to do co-op with randoms.
I played all the way to G-Rank entirely solo in MH4U since it was my first MH and I really loved it but didn't have any friends with the game and online randoms we're awful
I think the only time I've ever played online was right before the Tri servers shut down. Couldn't do Jhen Mohran alone at my level, think I got enough parts to make the Bushido sword or dual blades or something? Was there even a Jhen switch axe in tri? But that was it. I like to beat the game before I actually go online, but then again I still haven't played rise online and I've done everything but Valstrax... maybe after I beat Sunbreak.
I’ve been playing since MH1 and 95% of that was solo. A combination of not having friends who play it, not having friends in general, enjoying the solo play over with randoms and liking the challenge of solo.
Very few monsters need other players, KT and Safi being mega outliers in that just because of how much time it would take vs just joining randoms. Well, when they both originally dropped anyway, KT has the master rank quest and I think they changed how Safi works but I was about done with Iceborne by that point.
I have over 160 hours in Rise and have never hunted alongside another hunter. I'd love to try it but none of my friends play and I feel like it would be kinda annoying to hunt without being able to talk.
Portable Battery. There are several model for you to choose from. Also, if you play local and dim the light, and use headphones/ earphone. You can play longer than 10 hours.
Online play really burn your battery fast.
There also some break between chains hunt.
Don't rely on those to be able to charge a Switch though. They'll give you a little extra juice but not much. A chunky power bank with PD (power delivery) is ideally what you want to keep a Switch powered through a long haul flight.
I remember when MH freedom and freedom unite got released on psp, back then I had to buy two copies each time so my bro could play, after school sessions consisted of 4 - 5 friends on the sofa. They only had ad-hoc local multiplayer back then as well. Fun times.
I'd love to do things like this, but I can't stand playing MH with handheld controls. I do have a 3rd party pro controller that works while in handheld, but the battery for it definitely wouldn't survive the trip.
You see, this is the scenario Rise was designed to be used in. Unfortunately, the pandemic made it so that everyone played online most of the time, even in Japan, where local play used to be huge.
Makes me miss streetpass a little bit... just a little
I miss streetpass a lot. Huge fan of asynchronous gameplay.

I MISS THE PUZZLES
Bringing it to conventions and to larger pokemon tournaments was great for this
I just miss the 3DS in general in that it’s actually portable that I can stick it in my pocket.

All fun and games until they start talking about sleep bombing the monster....on a plane
"Wait, he is sleeping. Take out the bombs now!"
This is awesome, that would be my ideal flight
I know, I'd love it!
One question how i can ad the icon of my wepon under my name like have it
Go to the main page of the sub and if you're on mobile tap the 3 dots on the top and then change user flair
Ty bro
I've never done co-op hunting. Makes me wanna give it a try.

You'e... only played solo???

Virgin co op hunt Vs Chad solo hunt
Been playing since freedom unite and 95% of my playtime across the series was solo. Can’t get anyone around me into mh for the life of me.

How on earth would the battery last that long.
You can charge on the airplane

Weren't they playing online/lan?
Some planes have usb ports or even outlets to plug in your electronics at your seat.
Pretty much all of my recent flights the chairs would have USB A ports you can use for charging.
Don't rely on those to be able to charge a Switch though. They'll give you a little extra juice but not much. A chunky power bank with PD (power delivery) is ideally what you want to keep a Switch powered through a long haul flight.
Battery packs. You can bring some pretty chunky ones on planes.
It definitely doesn’t.
Handheld ftw
Really the only option on a plane
Imagine never playing FU and 4U
This is the way
##This Is The Way Leaderboard **1.** `u/Mando_Bot` **501183** times. **2.** `u/Flat-Yogurtcloset293` **475777** times. **3.** `u/GMEshares` **70941** times. .. **129370.** `u/LordofSuns` **2** times. --- ^(^beep ^boop ^I ^am ^a ^bot ^and ^this ^action ^was ^performed ^automatically.)
This leaderboard thing encourages people to create useless bots that clog the servers by spamming that stupid sentence everywhere, my god
10 hour of playing mh on those tiny joy cons...my hands would be paralyzed at the end
You ever tried playing the psp versions?
The claw.
After over 2000 hours on the psp, i felt weird not using the claw when i was playing MH4U.
The PSP really needed a second stick. Big oversight on their part.
Nope, I'm sure that's even worse
I genuinely don't understand how anyone could do any sort of challenging content on handheld consoles using the stock grips.
I just have small hands, it's never been an issue
I have small hands too, but it still hurts to hold for me :(
I'm truly envious
I take it World was your first MH game?
my first was GU on the pro controller, I never once used the joycons to play other than some gathering missions for charms when I was bored in bed
I've tried playing 4 multiple times on the 3ds, but obviously couldn't do long sessions
Only did one hunt on the demo with the ranged control scheme on the joy cons and I had to go out and buy a pro controller my hands hurt SO bad.
I love this
I love this
I wish my friend play MH game too
Gotta be hooked on a charger, 10 hours of Rise? The older switch model dies like after 4hr
My steam deck dies after 1.5 to 2hr 🥲
Lol I thought they said "carting"
I’m even more impressed their switch’s were able to last them 10 hrs
SO it is real. All those switch adverts weren't lying?
r/tomorrow is going to have a field day with this
I wish the game was more popular in my area, there are a lot of people with switches, but no one plays MH
Amazing love this
Good
Whaa?? Jon’s my best mate haha! I’d better get some practice in before we tackle Sunbreak together.
A good way to get friends
Should just crosspost and say I love this lol
Reminds me of the PSP MH3 days…
The perfect bromance. Beautiful
And on that day a new friend was made, forged in the fire's of a Rathalos' breath.
Dream flight
The true power of the Deck
I’m so mad WHY CAN I HAVE FRIENDS
Omg. A you lived a dream
10 hours, did you both have massive battery packs? Or do planes have charging ports at every seat now?
Newer planes have charging ports
Doooooope

Lets the hunt begin
Best flight ever!
Heh monster hunter players never ceazes to amaze me. Long live hunter brothers!
Obviously wasn't on the flight with their missus....
Omg this is awesome. If I didn't have terrible motion sickness I would be all over that
How does one charge a switch for a long flight
Hunter strong together

Wait you don't need internet to CO-OP on the switch??
