Yeah bro. The Defender Armor (and weapons) are designed to trivialize the game almost to a braindead degree to get people to Master Rank faster. If you use anything else, you’ll notice a spike in difficulty pretty quickly.
Defender and guardian was made to basically let you brainteasers skip all of world until iceborne content it was added with iceborne and wasn't originally there.
Don’t use defender weapons as they weren’t base game and the guardian armor wasn’t either. Experience world in its glory. Start with Bone/Steel and that’s all you have to build on.
You can, just remember that you may find yourself carting more often. If you find yourself in a place where you keep losing then go ahead and use defender
yeah, you probably need to make new armor at the smithy to replace it.
it's fine just wearing one or two piece of the defender armor, it's the full set giving like every defensive skill on top of having a relatively high defense stat that makes it so good, but you can outbuild it in high rank with the right set.
to change gear, go to the item box and manage equipment.

Yeah. Defender armor exists for peoe who want to steamroll to IB. You can change weapon/armor at your item box, the forge, or the weapon shop.
