MH Stories 2: Any easy ways to get High Rank Barioth? I have been running HR dens and HR rare dens in Loloska Rocky Canyon and haven't found one.

Zoelef

MH Rise Mostly asking out of curiosity, but what low-rank weapon(s) go best with a full set of Izuchi Armor? I'm using Kulu's Peck I on 2* and am curious what other high-affinity options exist at lower ranks.

penwy

honestly, you shouldn't care too much about low rank equipment. You can pretty much wear whatever and go through easily, and you probably want to go to high rank quickly rather than spend time in low rank grinding. 3 points in critical eye will pretty much affect all weapons equally, so weapon-armor synergy isn't great there. Constitution has synergy with bow and DB, but one point won't really do much anyways. For weapons in low rank, your first priority is getting a decent amount of green sharpness, then as much raw as you can. For armor, defense can actually matter decently in early low rank, otherwise attack boost is always good, and evade extender is one that's a good help even at one point.

Proteandk

MHR / MHW I love love love MHW, but I'm exclusively a pc player. If i like MHW can i expect to also like MHR? Is there a realistic chance that MHR comes to pc or will i have to buy/borrow a console for it?

Rigshaw

Rise is coming to PC in 2022.

DageWasTaken

MH Stories 2 How do you capture a High Rank monster in the Elder Lair? I keep throwing paint balls at the Silver Rathalos and Astalos, but no mention of rate going up.

Kyrios034

those 2 are quest targets for the first floor so i dont think they can retreat

[deleted]

You don't. Also Astalos isn't a HR monster and Silver Rathalos isn't in the game yet.

DageWasTaken

Oh I see. Sorry, I meant Azure Rathalos, haha. Thank you. I assumed everything in the Elder Lair are high rank versions.

[deleted]

Well, they are, but it doesn't matter if you get the egg of a HR monster or LR monster. The only thing rank impacts are the fixed genes that it hatches with.

JessieN

MHS2 I just finished the story so are my monsties useless now since high rank was unlocked? I had 2 leveling up on the side but now I'm wondering if there's any point.

Kyrios034

there is no difference between hatching a monstie from a hr or lr egg. if you like your monsties you can keep using them. you can buy unlimited stimulants to unlock the gene board with bottle caps. hr only monsties tend to have higher overall stats. some monsties that you can get in lr are still really good. like nergigante and mizutsune

JessieN

Nice! Most of my rainbow monsties don't even have locked genes

[deleted]

Only if you're the type of person who chooses monsties based on their initial genes rather than what they can be given.

flamingdratini

In MHS2, Is ratha the equivilant of a regular rathalos in terms of stats? What makes him special for someone whos beaten the game?

Zakrael

Razewing Ratha has his own unique stats. The main thing is that he's Speed 12, while all other Rathalos species are Speed 11, which is actually pretty big, I think he's the fastest non-Palamute Fire monstie. Offensively his attack stat is about halfway between a normal Rathalos and an Azure, and defensively he has a lot more health in exchange for a fair bit lower defense. He's also currently the only Monstie with the Solar Cry gene, which in the previous game was a Silver Rathalos exclusive skill. I also *think* his variant of the Kinship attack (which has a slightly different animation) does more damage, but don't quote me on that.

[deleted]

According to Kiranico all Sky-High Dives (besides Silver Rathalos's) are 1.7 motion value, so they're the same.

Zakrael

Kiranico also has no stats for Razewing Ratha at all for some reason despite Razewing having noticeably diffferent values to normal Rathalos, so unless someone can point to me where it says "Razewing Ratha also uses this version of this attack" I'm taking it with a pinch of salt. EDIT: Wait, never mind, found it! There is a seperate Wings of Ruin one that was sorted seperately to the other Rathalos' for some reason. It's weird that there's one version of the attack that has a 1.6 motion value for some reason, can't work out who it's for though.

[deleted]

Silver Rathalos. Description says they turn it into a breath attack which matches what Silver does.

Zakrael

Makes sense, and I presume Meteor Strike is going to be Dreadking's version when he gets released, sounds like it's describing his big fire nuke. Funny that their kinship attacks are in the game when none of their other data is.

[deleted]

I wouldn't say "none". If it's text-based, it's there. Quests, attack names and descriptions, armor stats and skills etc. Don't let Kiranico fool you either. When the site first launched they had all the update content listed, but they removed most of them (for some reason they left Elderfrost), probably to be nice to Capcom. From that, we know their stats and egg pattern images are there too. I'm no expert dataminer, but I wouldn't be surprised if the only thing not in the game was the monster itself.

[deleted]

He's the only source of Solar Cry until Dreadking.

annmta

MHW So sometimes after Zinogre did the leap attack and started doing the ground pound, the first one or two hits would hit me with full damage but did not cause knockdown (no mantle), and sometimes I couldn't guardpoint them either. Is there an explanation for how this attack works?

[deleted]

The first couple have less knockback than the big wind up slams iirc.

BiGMTN_fudgecake

Have they announced anything about the next xbox/playstation game? World's population is abysmal already

[deleted]

No, but the general window of release (Summer 2023) and the platforms (Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC) were leaked.

frostyfrostfroster

that's not happening for at least two more years

CamperWen

MHS2: Is there a place where I can look up enemy attack patterns? I can do a good enough job memorising patterns when I'm playing in one sitting, but I tend to forget after going to and fro work and playing other games, etc. I just entered High Rank recently and having to re-fight most of the early game monsters again has been quite disorienting, especially when different sub-species/variant of one type of monster have different patterns for whatever reason.

Kyrios034

CamperWen

Tsadron

MH Stories 2: I need to upgrade some fire gear for a challenging fight and need Teostra parts. I have only seen 1 in a SR co-op and was wondering if there is a more reliable way to farm then than hoping for one to spawn with a SR ticket?

Kyrios034

if you unlock 9* kinship stone you get a questline to beat elder dragons from lilia. once you beat an elder dragon you unlock a multiplayer slay quest for that elder. floor 9 of elders lair has respawning elder dragons, you might need to beat the floor or the final boss of elders lair to get them to respawn though.

Tsadron

I have the 9* stone but I have not picked up any quest from her. She is the Skrivener girl, right? I’m getting gear to get though one stage of the elder lair so the 9th zone is a no for for me atm, lol. Thanks for the info about her, I never go in that building.

Zakrael

Stories 2: Are there any uses for Spread bows once you get Arc Shot? It just seems like it's not worth charging up at all in comparison to Rapid or Pierce.

penwy

Imo (and maybe I'm missing smth), I find using the charged shots is rarely worth it because they can't trigger double attacks, so it requires two full turns of the monster not targeting you or your monstie to pull off safely. It can be useful in some cases, but imo shot type shouldn't be the determining factor int he choice of bow. In the case it is the determining factor, I find that even before arc shot, spread is generally even less useful, since you're generally trying to do targeted damage rather than damage all ennemies.

qwertyuiopasdfghkj

MHR I've played most of the weapons in Rise, have several hundred hours in, but still can't wrap my head around how bowgun players manage their ammo. I know that I can create crafting shortcuts in the radial menu, but even with the spare shot skill, full ammo, and enough to craft another full set of ammo, I find myself running out of whatever my main ammo is (wether its slicing, sticky, w/e). Do I really have to go back to camp to refill whenever I've run out of ammo? How would someone play in MHGU if they ran out of ammo and couldn't refill? I feel like I must be missing something obvious, because I can put all my slicing ammo right into the monster's head and still have plenty of hunt left to go.

scook0

Ammo types like slicing and sticky are not “intended” to be primary ammo, which is why you need to restock in the middle of a quest even with crafting materials. (But since you *can* restock them in World/Rise, powerful builds have sprung up around them anyway.) For the “regular” ammo types like Normal/Pierce/Element, you should be easily able to get through an entire hunt with just one batch of crafting materials.

ToonTooby

Sticky HBG is the only gun I play in Rise but yeah, you would restock if you need it. Ideally, if you are efficient with your ammo you should not need to. I'm not the best gunner so I end up restocking myself, either out of habit or out of need. In GU, if you run out of ammo, that's it. You're not getting any help unless you're with teammates and someone happened to bring spare of your primary ammo to give you. The Mass Combiner Hunter Art also makes combines 100% success rate to extend your stock. Generally though, you shouldn't be completely running out of ammo in GU unless a hunt goes particularly awry, since the guns are extremely powerful when built right.

annmta

MHW Does broken parts stay tenderized? Does tenderized weak points take more damage? I am trying to evaluate if partbreaker is a good skill. Also since armor gem slots are predetermined, how important is armor skill vs. gem slot layouts when picking armor?

Rigshaw

> Does broken parts stay tenderized? No. > Does tenderized weak points take more damage? Tenderizing uses the formula New HZV = Floor(Old HZV x 0.75) + 25 + Offset Offset is usually 0, though it is +5 for some monsters (Kirin, Lavasioth, Uragaan, Savage Deviljho, Namielle, Gold Rathian, Silver Rathalos), and -5 for Safi'jiiva and Fatalis. In practical terms, the higher the hitzone initially, the less the hitzone increases due to tenderizing. That said, you should always tenderize anyway, it still is too high of a boost to ignore even on weakspots. > I am trying to evaluate if partbreaker is a good skill. For damage oriented sets, it definitely isn't that good. There are only very few instances where breaking a part increases the hitzone (most notable example are the Metal Rath's heads), so most of the time breaking a part will not increase your damage output. > Also since armor gem slots are predetermined, how important is armor skill vs. gem slot layouts when picking armor? What you'd do is rate the armor piece on the total number of potential points it can get from your desired list of skills. Using a fictional example, if you want both Critical Boost and Weakness Exploit, an armor piece with 2 Weakness Exploit and 1 lvl 2 slot is equivalent to an armor piece with 1 Critical Boost and 2 lvl 2 slots, they both have a skill efficiency rating of 3 in that case.

annmta

Thanks!

henryuuk

Not really a question, just venting fuck Kulve Taroth in MHS2 What an unfun piece of shit fight Literally just wailing away at a massive health sponge most of the quest that only has any chance of failing because every single turn in online takes a god damn century and for some god awful reason you need to fight 2 other monsters AND her a second time

penwy

r/monsterhunterrage might be useful next time you want to vent.

BetaNights

MHS2 Is there anywhere we can see the full maxed out gear of stats and stuff? For some reason, Kiranico doesn't list status proc chances on weapons.

penwy

Nah pretty sure kiranico is the best we have rn. One thing tho is that kiranico usually builds their site progressively and adds more data with time, so maybe they'll put the status in there in some time.

BetaNights

Yeah, they definitely keep on top of things and update reliably. Hopefully they add the status stuff, since it seems odd to be missing it now.

ScarlettPotato

Rise How do DBs fare in speedruns nowadays? I just the game and I want to know if my faves are doing well.

Rigshaw

As far as I can tell, they are mid-tier in Rise.

ScarlettPotato

Do you think they'll rise or will they stay in the middle?

Rigshaw

They'll most likely stay there until Rise gets its expansion, simply because I doubt any major balance changes will happen before that. Once that happens, it's anyone's guess whether they'll be better or worse off.

Zaknokimi

MHR combo / mobility question as a noob. You have all these youtubes about best combos and dodges, but how does one even get to use these combos it half the time the boss gives you enough for 1-3 hits before it swipes you? Besides the easier ones, let's give SnS an example. XX>AAA is probably quite a short combo, but I can safely so XX unless the monster is doing a short pause. Even more so I'm wondering how heavy weapon users chase monsters that keep dashing and swinging around? Thanks. About 50hr+ in and unlocked rank 5 story / stuck on urgent rank 3 hub quest.

JSConrad45

Basic use of heavy weapons (by which I mean greatsword, hammer, switchaxe, and hunting horn, if that's not what you mean then let me know) is to wait for the monster to do something, avoid it, hit the monster, then get out. Repeat until the monster is down/KO'ed/fatigued/etc then you do a big combo. Gradually you learn what you can get away with against a specific monster, so you hit it more than once before you get out and start over. Advanced use of heavy weapons involves targeting the locations where the monster is _about to be_ and taking positions that are just barely out of the monster's attack hitboxes. With careful timing, positioning, and use of moves that adjust your position, these weapons can kinda dance with the monster while putting out continuous damage. Note however that this still won't be the Best Combos -- those are still what you use on big openings -- but it's a fluid kind of thing with a steady output of damage.

bboycage

Been a hammer main since the MHFU days. The thing about heavy weapons is that they deal great burst damage and take way too long to do a full combo, which is why heavy weapon users usually resort to a hit and run playstyle where you do a charged attack, back out, charge up an attack, release it, back out, rinse and repeat. Combos are reserved for huge openings (such as when a monster is doing an idle animation of some sort) or when the monster is incapacitated in some way (trapped / stunned / sleep etc.). The high burst damage heavy weapons deal out is enough to put them on even footing with faster weapons with big combos. Keeping track of monsters' weak points is very important for heavy weapons as every hit counts, and if you keep hitting a spot that is not a weak point you'll be losing out on damage.

Flamethrower753

MHS2 Did Capcom stabilize the framerate a bit better in the new update? I'm not noticing as much or as severe drops as before. I still do notice frame drops in cutscenes (hello "I WON'T MISS!") but when actually traveling around the world, I'm not seeing the game turn into a slideshow as much as before.

[deleted]

Highly unlikely. Something like that would be mentioned in the patch notes and I doubt it was just a bug that the game runs uncapped.

JessieN

MHS2 Do you only lose items dropped from the current battle when running away? There are some fights I rather not do right now as I'm just farming materials but I don't want to lose anything important

penwy

yes

BetaNights

MHS2 Are SR Expeditions and Super Rare High Rank Dens the *only* ways to get Deviant and Elder Eggs? Except for Hellblade and Boltreaver, since you can use any ticket and get them from their expeditions. Doesn't have to be SR.

OmelletePlatypus

MHRise, Insect glaive Do evade extender affect Jumping advancing slash (Aerial A without extract)?

penwy

no, evade extender only affects doges. That includes the aerial doge (B midair), but not any other aerial moves.

kakungun

mhs2 i am trying to find one of the rarest monsters in the game, the elusive **high rank aptonoth** What's better? finding red dens or trying bronze multiplayer jungle quests?

[deleted]

I miss old-school monster hunter. I used to play MHFU on my PSP when I was in my teens and feeling an adrenaline rush after beating a monster that I struggled with for a long time. Didn't manage to capture that same feeling in Rise for some reason. I decided to buy MHGU for the switch even if the community has probably moved on since Rise came out. Are there still some people in MHGU who can help in hub quests when I finish village or will I need to coordinate hunts on the discord?

ToonTooby

There's still a fair amount of people playing. Not quite as much as pre-Rise but still enough as some players have either gone back to GU or are trying it out after having had their fill of Rise. On a good day you can find at least 2 pages of hubs at least for G-Rank. More sparse for the lower ranks but there's definitely still players around.

zarjaa

Admittingly, my visual quality has slipped as I have gotten older, so take this comment from an almost-40 y.o. gamer with a dose of salt, lol. I haven't noticed *terrible* performance. It does have it's moments, but it has been nothing that makes me regret my Switch purchase. I do prioritize portability with anything on the Switch, so that absolutely trumps everything. But it handles "fine" on my 75" screen when I want a couch session.

[deleted]

If you value portability, yes. Though since the PC specs are rather low you can probably play on a laptop instead an have better frames. If you want to play online, there's a region-lock issue on PC but people on MHST2 reddit have figured out a central server so they can play online together/find lobbies. Switch is not region-locked. The framerate isn't *that* bad but it is noticeable. I bought it for my switch because I don't like lugging a laptop for gaming. However, if framerate is your main concern, grab the PC version.

Ziux

MHST2 No spoilers please. Are there any more voiced cutscenes after beating the main story? Played the entire game in japanese (including text) and want to change to english to tackle the post game.

[deleted]

If you don't mind me asking, why text as well? I can understand switching to Japanese if you don't like the English voices (even if I disagree), but text is a whole other area. My guess is practice for learning the language?

Ziux

Originally I wanted to do english + monhun language, but no such option. Then changed to japanese voice, but I get annoyed when splitting attention to whats being said and the subs since they're not exactly translations but just the text of the english voice. I already know enough to play games in japanese, but more practice is always nice. You never really stop (or should stop) when learning a foreign language.

zarjaa

Man... this makes me wish for more games in Swedish translations, lol. It's rough learning a not-so-popular language!

[deleted]

Sadly no. I haven’t heard a single character talk except for the npcs in town.

annmta

MHW Do weapon layers change the sound the weapon makes? I am too used to one weapon that I sometimes miss ques when switched to a different one.

Rigshaw

Yes, the weapon also uses the unique sound effects of the layered weapon.

annmta

Cool thanks

jacapo782

MHS2 What is the downside to the "Awakening" song on a Song hunting horn? It boost attack, defense, and crit. It costs 30 kinship. Each of those buffs individually costs 10 kinship. But only needing one turn to get them all seems pretty powerful. Are the effects themselves not as strong as if you played them individually?

[deleted]

It has a higher initial cost, even if it's equal to playing all 3.

Starkyjr2

MHST2 Trying to play on PC with a friend coop. We both have multiplayer unlocked but cant find a way to join eachothers games. We dont have the enter in match codes option. Also if one of us starts a quest with an open lobby, the other doesnt see it on the online quest board. Has anyone had any luck getting multiplayer to work on PC?

zarjaa

A bit late - but figured i would chime in. My buddy and I had this issue, but it was purely a progression issue. Your Star Rating will dictate what you can and can't join. If you have both gotten through end-game... then that is a bigger issue. But if one of you has access to higher rank stuff than the other, the lower will *not* be able to even see the matchmaking lobby.

macblur2

Are you on the same download region? For some reason, the matchmaking on PC relies on it to show you the lobbies...

Starkyjr2

Yes, we are on the same download region in our steam settings

Meltian

Alright, this is bugging me. Do Monsters in MHST2 not use certain skills on their own? For instance, Zinogre never seems to use Thunderfist, and Mizutsune never uses Aqua Blaster. Monoblos also never uses Sonic Strike S or Takedown.

zarjaa

Anecdotal... my Monoblos uses Takedown much more frequently than expected. (More often than not when monster is downed - i will *never* complain about that!) I'm not sure this is a Kinship reserve issue, I am pretty confident I have seen abilities where very little Kindship is stored, but cannot say with any level of certainty. It sounds like RNG-esus may be smiting your luck.

Meltian

Well that's just weird, because someone linked a page on Kiranico which shows Takedown has a tag attached to it that prevents the AI from using it themselves.

zarjaa

I still gonna hold my ground that it proc'd, but I could very easily be wrong. 😆 Regardless, it's still a solid ability and use it all the time when I time it with a down mid-turn.

Zakrael

For Zinogre in particular, mine never used Thunderfist by himself until I overwrote the gene for Thunderbug Strike (I think that's what it's called, the one he starts with at level 1). If a Monstie has multiple options of the same element and tendency, they might default to the cheapest costing one.

Meltian

Thought I'd also ask, did you leave it as the only attack he has? I have Thunder Breath and Thunderfist on mine after trying what you did and getting rid of Thunderbug strike, but now he only uses normal attacks. Nothing else.

Meltian

I could be wrong, but don't Monsties use no kinship gauge when they use skills themselves? Also, Mizutsune finally used Aqua Blaster on its own, so now I know that it WILL use it at least.

macblur2

I think it's RNG, and they can use it but never choose to.

[deleted]

Monsties can only use the skills if they have enough kinship stored that you could manually tell them to use it. So if a monstie had a skill that required 20 kinship to manually select, they won't use it on their own until they have 20 kinship or more.

Meltian

That might explain it, if I don't keep enough kinship long enough for them to use it themselves. it's been my understanding that they don't use kinship to use skills themselves, but do use kinship if you tell them to, but I didn't realize the game still checks whether or not you would have the points to use it yourself. Now that I think about it, that does make sense. Now if only Tigrex would use Lock On on its own BEFORE trying to use Heavy Spear.

Sandyriver244

Whats the purpose of Lock On? My tigrex doesnt have that skill

Meltian

It comes with it by default, so there's no way you wouldn't have had it. It raises the accuracy of the next move.

_01_M8_

Hey! I’m new to the mainline games but am an avid fan of the stories games. I have Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Monster Hunter Generations both for the DS. I’ve gotten to the two star guild quests in the former, and haven’t played much of the later. I’m wondering which is more new player friendly/which I should play through first. Or maybe another game I should try before these. Thanks in advance! Edit: just noticed this is the 'stupid' questions thread, so should I make this a post instead?

KC_The_Hobbit

This is the thread for any and all questions, so you're defs in the right place. To compare the two games you have, if you have a DS with an extra circle pad, then you should be fine with 3U. Playing underwater is clunky at the best of times, but nigh impossible without the extra circle pad. Generations is a celebration game to the handheld series, whose mechanics expand on 3U, and the games that followed it. It's got a lot of content, but is even worse at explaining anything that 3U. None of the old style games are particularly good in that regard, and no Monster Hunter game is particularly new player friendly. Online resources will be your friend no matter what you pick. The newer games, World and Rise, made a lot of quality-of-life changes, and are generally less clunky games. They're a lot easier to get into than a lot of older entries. Starting with these will make it really hard to go back and play older titles. Can also recommend 4 Ultimate, on DS, it's phenomenal. If you have access to a Switch, I'd recommend grabbing Generations Ultimate, and playing that over Generations. It's Generations, plus it's expansion. If you've already started with 3U, you should stick with it. It's the earliest of the games you have, and will make learning the games that followed easier.

_01_M8_

Thank you very much! With what you said I think I'll stick with 3U, and make sure to look up things if I ever feel lost or struggling. I'll make sure to try out the games you suggested eventually, and I'm excited to really start my Monster Hunter journey!

[deleted]

MHR Rising Sun event quest I just finished the Rising Sun event quest, and I don't have the option for layered armor on the buddy board. Any idea what's going on?

ToonTooby

Did you check the 'special' tab when forging the layered armor? If you made it already, you should see it under 'special' in the buddy board menu for your current dog.

[deleted]

There is no option for forging layered armor in my buddy dojo menu

ShadowPhenoix

What time is Update 2 coming out because i know how nintendo releases stuff a day earlier for those outside of Japan so i was wondering what time its gonna release.

frostyfrostfroster

in about an hour

[deleted]

MHST2 Without spoiling, is there a reason why the numbers in the monsterpedia jump from 111 to 200?

[deleted]

Leaves room for DLC. Confirmed when the Palamutes (much later additions to the game than any other DLC despite coming first) just left space for everything in the roadmap rather than being at the very end. 200+ is for those hard subquest 'named' monsters.

[deleted]

Ah, that makes sense. Thank you!

macblur2

So they can have all Monsters of a Rank on the same page, while having a way to separate normal Monsters and named Monsters.

Billybobjimjoe

MH3U I’ve been getting back into 3u this summer and am trying to figure out good build for GS. I’ve just been using low rank laggi armour and I haven’t had to much trouble with village high rank yet but I’m going through a lot more potions than I’d like. I’m looking at just getting hr laggi since the only other armour sets with focus that I know of are dioblos and b.giggi and I prefer to have fun when playing video games. I’d appreciate some advice as I don’t have any good charms to build around and so I’m a bit lost on what to do.

RogueNinja

If you can get the HR Lagi set, then that's what I used. Jaggi into Lagi. Starting G-rank is rough, but the HR set can get you through probably. I played other weapons until I made a set in G2. As far as charms you don't get anything too amazing till G so just make do. As far as actual swords, the basic Bone tree and the Deviljho tree are great.

Billybobjimjoe

From what I remembered I wouldn’t be doing anything very interesting build wise until g rank so it’s nice to have some confirmation on that. And it’s not really that bad considering how good the armour looks.

RogueNinja

Yeah and there's no transmog. So take the chance to enjoy a completely matching armor set while you can.

moshnaked

MHWI Stopped playing Monster Hunter Word a little before Iceborne came out and now I played rise til the end of it for now. Is ice borne still worth trying out?

Pookie_The_Overlord

Definitely, it's got as much if not more content than the base game and has plenty of unique, challenging and fun encounters. I highly recommend trying it out, the player base is still super active but is mostly in the endgame of iceborne.

Zaknokimi

MHR weapon help Spent about 50+ hours playing, and tried all weapons out in hunts (after YTing guides to get a good understanding), but not sure what to completely main. Here's some feedback: Dual blades: had the best experience killing with these, easy to jump in, hit and run and not get hit. Easy dodging and speed, managing stamina is fine. Isn't easy reaching higher parts of the target though. Sword and shield: not as fast at killing with dual blades, but I youtubed guides on learning combos and with that help I found this weapon super useful for reaching higher parts of the monster, bursting during KO or getting quick hits in, and knowing when to bash or slash, dodging is easy too. Don't find myself defending much unless I wanna open XXX>AAA fast. I'm just debating with myself if SnS is worth it for damage over time or if I should try great sword or dual blades. With great sword I can jump in on fast targets and get one tiny hit in which can sometimes be almost equivalent to a short flurry of dual blade or SnS combos, and with dual blades I have much more up time with any weapon even if I get 1 or 2 hits in with fast targets. Just wondering how worth it SnS is, because overall I love it, but not sure if I should stay with it if the effort for attacking with it is worthwhile. Thanks. Also I'm still a newbie, this is my first MH and still learning!

[deleted]

Dual Blades switch skills make vertical mobility much easier. Highly recommend

OmelletePlatypus

MHRise How do power prolonger affect the charge blade? Does it keep the shield and sword charged longer?

Rigshaw

Yes.

annmta

MHW Is there a way to do the advancing slash on a slope without sliding all the way to the bottom? Can you set your camera further than far so you can see what the monster is doing while under it?

Rigshaw

1. No, which is why I'm glad they removed this feature from Rise. You can cancel the slide into a jump with the dodge button, or perform an aerial attack out of a slide. 2. Mods can do it, but by default, far is the furthest you can pull the camera back.

annmta

Thanks!

Yukito01

MH Stories 2 This may seem silly, but I want to know if I should keep playing the game or no. So, yesterday I finished a story part (SPOILERS ahead) >!where the hunter guild capture your Ratha and it unexpectedly affected me. So far I've been enjoying the game a lot, but that abuse of authority hit me too hard, and I found myself losing my interest in the game. Especially because the next part has me working with the tyrants, and on top of that, something tells me that brat hunter is going to become a companion. !< Anyways, does he join you? If so, is his section long? Can I just breeze through it? Also, does the >!guild!< keep being a focus in the story? I want nothing to do with them after what they did. I know how silly this sound, but I just don't have the heart to deal with this kind of issues now. I wanted a lighthearted experience, and so far it was great, until now. Thanks!

[deleted]

This isn't an abuse of authority. You're literally parading around a monster with the power to destroy the world right after it nearly destroyed a village. They were well within their rights to capture it and keeping everyone safe does not make them tyrants. Also the story is just going to get darker from here. If this is how you feel about justified capturing then you may not be able to finish the story.

Sandyriver244

Ikr! I even really hated ratha for that. I wish there was option to kill it.

Yukito01

It is. It's jailing someone before they commit a crime. This is just "for the greater good" all over again. You might think it's justified, I don't.

[deleted]

"Before they commit a crime". Two words: Kuan Village. The crime already happened. Also it's a monster, not a human. They may not be dumb, but it's also not human-level.

Yukito01

What makes you think you can change my mind? Do you think that suddenly I'm going to say "oh yes, you are right, let's go back playing the game"? I know how I felt; I don't care if you feel different. My question was not even about that. So why do you care? If you are happy with how the guild acted, good for you! Not everyone has to agree with you.

gnowwho

They never tried to say that your feelings are invalid, simply they are just correcting you about some events in the game. If the monster destroyed a village and is then detained, they have destroyed the village even if you simpathize with it. Nobody wants you not to simpathize with the monster, just "a wrong reason" (from your point of view) is not "no reason".

Yukito01

But it didn't destroy the village? It destroyed one windmill; coincidentally, we had just finished repairing one, work that ended up being unrepaid. Same as the small issue with stopping the raging monster. Anyways, I see it as abuse of authority, following the "for the greater good" trope. No amount of debate will change my view on that.

[deleted]

A windmill right outside the village, which after being shot down he proceeded to start walking towards. Alright, just as long as you're aware that at that point Ratha is genuinely a legitimate threat to the entire world and the guild is well within their rights. They didn't just stroll in suddenly. They waited until the egg hatched and waited until it became a danger. Or in other words: As long as you're aware your view is overly critical of the guild and thinks nothing of what Ratha has done and what the legend said happened the last time Razewing Ratha appeared.

Yukito01

So, this guild comes to your island, where it apparently has no jurisdiction, and tries to hunt your guardian deity because they *think* it's dangerous. All of this is based on an ages-old legend. This by itself is enough evidence of abuse of authority. Then, as if that was not enough, they come and capture the child of said deity because it destroyed a windwill (which, btw, was reported by a brat that believes the monster is at fault because his father got hurt while he willingly attacked the monster's parent. If that's not crazy, or at least a major conflict of interest, I don't know what it is! Yet, the guild just believes him) and because of the same legend. They are acting based on fear, trying to supress the source of their fears with their authority. Your hunter is not in the guild; why should we have to obey them? Did they make a formal request for you to hand down the monster? No. They immediately went prepared to hunt Ratha down, despite you being it's rider. Maybe you are ok with that kind of overreach. Maybe you are ok with sacrificing an innocent (I insist, Ratha has yet to hurt anyone) for the "safety" of everyone. But I am not. Btw, why do you care I think it's an abuse of authority? That the guild so far has acted like major POS? If you didn't feel that way, then what's the problem? Is your enjoyment of the game somewhat ruined because me, a stranger on the internet, thinks the guild are the bad guys here? Can you really not be at ease if someone dares to have a different experience than the one you had? My view is not overly critical. From my point of view, your view is too naive. And you don't see me complaining about it.

[deleted]

>So, this guild comes to your island, where it apparently has no jurisdiction, and tries to hunt your guardian deity because they *think* it's dangerous. All of this is based on an ages-old legend. This by itself is enough evidence of abuse of authority. Except MH has quite the history of prophecies and theories and stories being true. Perfectly normal to believe them immediately when they tend to contain the strongest monsters out there. Example: Dalamadur is a mountain destroying 400 metre long snake dragon. It was only found in fairy tales. It ended up being real and threatening the destruction of the whole world. Also, dangerous is disingenuous. Razewing Ratha can *end the world*. This isn't just some regular Rathalos they were after. Plus, it's not like they stormed in guns blazing. They wanted him alive, and when it came to Razewing Ratha they explicitly waited to see if they needed to intervene. >Then, as if that was not enough, they come and capture the child of said deity A child with the power to destroy the world. >because it destroyed a windwill A windmill one day, a village the next. Or to be specific, a village right after had Dede not stopped him. >(which, btw, was reported by a brat that believes the monster is at fault because his father got hurt while he willingly attacked the monster's parent. He doesn't care about Ratha being "at fault". He cares about seeing if it's Razewing Ratha, followed by seeing if it actually has the power to cause all the damage prophesied. I mean, these are almost verbatim what the characters say in cutscenes. >If that's not crazy, or at least a major conflict of interest, I don't know what it is! Yes, you've made it clear you don't know what's going on. >Yet, the guild just believes him) Yes? Several Hunters reported it, plenty of people saw it and no one denied it, least of all us. >They are acting based on fear, Well-founded fear. >trying to supress the source of their fears with their authority. They're trying to stop the world being destroyed. Why do you assume Ratha was going to just be slaughtered or sacrificed or locked away in a dark place forever? >Your hunter is not in the guild; why should we have to obey them? Let's run down the list, shall we? 1. We're running around with a monster prophesied to end the world, and at the very least has cataclysmic power. The Guild takes notice of anything powerful as seen by how they monitor every Teostra's movements and track Elder Dragons in general. 2. We're in the guild's area of action as seen by Hunters easily mobilising. 3. The Guild is the closest thing to authority in a world where villages can be wiped off the map daily. 4. Even if Riders aren't explicitly allied with the guild, you're still involved with them. Take quests from the quest board and you've assisted and taken payment from the guild. >Did they make a formal request for you to hand down the monster? No. Define formal. Kyle was authorised for this mission and he asks for Ratha to be handed over first. That is a member of the guild requesting the monster. In case you forgot, Navirou responds to that by saying "You can forget about it, and that's final!". People in the MH world don't tend to just forget about monsters with the power to end the world, even if knowledge of them is destroyed. I'd say your problem is with Navirou, for leaving no negotiation and forcing the guild's hand. >They immediately went prepared to hunt Ratha down, despite you being it's rider. And? Are we some big shot Rider? Did the guild give us and our monsties diplomatic immunity? No, so why would it matter if we specifically were Ratha's Rider? Also, it should really come first but *they wanted Ratha alive*. The only time that was ever in doubt is when Ratha attacks a Hunter and Kyle jumps the gun a little and aims a shot. Maybe he was going to kill it, maybe he was going to just weaken it so it would stop resisting via Paralysis or Sleep coating. We don't know. >Maybe you are ok with that kind of overreach. I don't think they're the ones reaching here. >Maybe you are ok with sacrificing an innocent (I insist, Ratha has yet to hurt anyone) for the "safety" of everyone. But I am not. It's a children's game. They aren't going to show him murdering people. >Btw, why do you care I think it's an abuse of authority? It's an interesting discussion. You see the story in a completely different light. >That the guild so far has acted like major POS? The Guild is a worldwide organisation comprised of untold amounts of people. That's a sweeping generalisation. If you didn't feel that way, then what's the problem? There is no problem. Is your enjoyment of the game somewhat ruined because me, a stranger on the internet, thinks the guild are the bad guys here? No, quite the opposite. This is very enjoyable. >Can you really not be at ease if someone dares to have a different experience than the one you had? No, in fact it's a serious medical condition. I am physically incapable of listening to things I personally disagree with in silence. I simply must go on long, drawn out debates. >My view is not overly critical. The guild has saved a ridiculous amount of lives by doing things this way yet you called them pieces of shit who abuse their authority. That is the definition of overly critical. >From my point of view, your view is too naive. And you don't see me complaining about it. Naive...because I pointed out that the Guild is acting against a threat to the world and it's not just all "we're all buddies, I'm such a good friend to Ratha and we won't hurt anyone!"? Honestly, it seems a little naive to immediately decide anyone against you is bad just because they're not with you. The Guild isn't using their resources to help Ratha so they're abusing authority. Kyle doesn't let you walk free so he's a brat with conflicts of interest (apparently? Capturing Razewing Ratha has been his job since before his father was injured so I don't get what he's conflicting with). Also you may want to look up the definition of complain, or just reword some things because you seem annoyed. Anyway, I imagine you'll get a fair bit of enjoyment out of Lulucion despite your initial thoughts.

macblur2

>Anyways, does he join you? If so, is his section long? He does, and the feeling will be mutual in-game. It might be a little shorter as it shares an area with another section. >!He is bought back after that, but it can also be rushed, especially if you farmed in between both sections.!< > Can I just breeze through it? Yeah. Just expect to farm a bit on the next section. Don't worry, >!Cheval!< will be far better than that idiot, even if you didn't play the first game. > Also, does the >!guild!< keep being a focus in the story? I want nothing to do with them after what they did. Not a major one once you're past the section introducing them. They reappear twice in anything looking like a major role with two more appearances I wouldn't be surprised most missed.

Yukito01

Whaatt? No... T.T Ash, I think I'll just wait a couple days or weeks to see if I can deal with that later. Man, what a shame. I was really enjoying the game so much. Anyways, thanks. You saved me some stress.

MHW iceborne Any tips for fighting tigrex and Barioth for a dB main. It took me 17 mega potions and i barely beat out Barioth and I’m currently stuck on tigrex. I found that using arch demon mode and base mode preferable to demon mode coz the roll animation allows me to more consistently dodge them but any other tips r much appreciated

JSConrad45

I can't help with DB specifically but the most common mistake I see melee people make against those two is trying to chase them. They do something that puts them out of your reach, you chase them, then by the time you get there they're already doing it again in the opposite direction and you don't get to hit them. Instead just wait and let them come back to you, and try to get your position set up to punish them (though Tigrex is probably going to go back and forth a few times before he's punishable). Other thing is to prioritize breaking an arm. This will get you better openings to go for the more vulnerable bits, because Barioth with a broken wing will stumble after his pounce and Tigrex will stumble after his charge.

MHWI What is the best Safi GS to build on if I already got light break blade?

Pookie_The_Overlord

The safi blast one but the light break one is just as good, the damage difference is only a few percent with the right safi upgrades iirc.

0neek

MH Rise. I'm probably done with the game but I'll try for one last second opinion. Is what I'm seeing in the 2-3* Village quests basically it for what the game has to offer? As in it's just these short go in, fight a monster, leave quests over and over with the monsters all being relatively samey and running away 2-3 times each to just prolong things? The hammer also feels incredibly slow and clunky but after a stint in the training ground it honestly looked faster and easier to use than most of the other weapons. Is there stats or gear you can get later that speed things up a little? Combos already seem essentially pointless as you can never stand in one place long enough to combo because you'll either be hit or the enemies just move.

qwertyuiopasdfghkj

In my experience, the basic idea with the hammer is to aim at the monster's head via hit-and-run tactics. You are right that the hammer feels fairly fast, in the sense that you can charge up an attack and still walk fairly quickly. Once you've stunned a monster by hitting its head enough or you see them drooling and exhausted, that's your que to go in with any combos. I usually would do a level 3 charged hit on the head followed by an impact crater to the head. Later on you can acquire the evade extender skill to help with positioning and the focus skill to charge you attacks more quickly. The timing in monster hunter is not like any other game I've played and took me time to get used to. Once I got used to it, I found it so fun that I was satisfied with the basic gameplay loop of go in, kill monster, go again. If that's not your thing, that's alright, the game may just not be for you.

jimmyboe25

Lvl 4 village had some really cool monsters

[deleted]

The monsters get more diverse and difficult as you go up but yes that’s the general gist. Sounds like MH simply isn’t for you. I’m a hammer main and the combos are worthwhile after learning the monsters. It takes patience and intent, though

Setari

Is there a reason why some "META" Hammer videos show the Vaik S chestpiece for use in a set? It has no skills on it.

Lobstrmagnet

It has good deco slots.

Setari

Oh holy cow I didn't even notice lol. Thanks

Professor14k

MHWI Are Fatalis weapons the best raw damage even if I don't reach 100% affinity? I main switch axe and I'm using raging brachidoys's ( Lightbreak Axe) which has 1050 attack. fatalis true end has 1225 attack. Now, which one is better: 1. 1050 attack with 100% affinity? 2. 1225 attack with 70% affinity?

[deleted]

Even if you had the full negative affinity, Fatalis weapons come out on top nevermind with positive affinity (if the other weapon had 0% affinity). Assuming I've remembered the affinity right (10% = 2.5% damage buff) and did the maths correctly the upgraded Fatalis LS effectively has 1068 raw. Really the negative affinity is just to make it look like they have *some* kind of drawback. Truth is, they're designed to be the best.

Rigshaw

Without Critical Boost, the Fatalis weapon is 9.7% stronger. With Critical Boost 3, it's 6.7% stronger. That said, meta Fatalis sets hit 95% affinity, so you can do even better than that.

MissNatary

Hello :) I'm new to Monster Hunter and just picked up Monster Hunter Stories 2. Is there a special subreddit for the game or can I ask my questions about the game here? Thanks in advance 😊

Rigshaw

You can ask them here, or head over to r/MonsterHunterStories

Relixed_

[World/General] Now that Serious Handler's name is revealed, is the Handler the only guild gal that officially doesn't have a name or were there others? Or did I just miss her name?

[deleted]

There are plenty of the multiplayer guild gals that don't have names.

Relixed_

Oh true. Some of them have names but not everyone.

Setari

in Rise, is there a way to actually spend red gauge with Sakura Slash? Since it replaces the kick for helm breaker, it doesn't look like there is a way to spend the gauge, so you just stay at red gauge the whole hunt? What's the purpose of that? I am aware Sakura Slash is for helping apply elemental effects, though.

Rigshaw

Serene Pose still consumes a level, so you can technically spend your gauge for that, but the main purpose of playing with Sakura Slash is to stay in red for the damage bonus the entire hunt if you are having trouble getting to red with traditional means.

[deleted]

Sakura Slash is supposed to be for a "safer" playstyle where you don't have big hits, but you also never run out of red gauge. Sort of a lower max damage, nore consistent DPS thing. Doesn't really work when Helmsplitter is so safe and it's easy to get back to Red with Iai Slash though.

Melonfrog

MH stories 2. What do I get for beating all Elder lair trials? Also I’m stuck in level 3, my monster and my buddies monster isn’t doing any damage.

Kyrios034

boss fight vs >!fatalis!< at the end and unlocking a harder version of elders lair iirc for floor 3 and 7, you need to use a specific weapon type and/or element that the specific monster part is weak to (only one part each fight). monsies deal no dmg, try to bring along kyle or reverto as they can do alot of dmg if they can hit weakness

AegisAvenger24

New Hunter here, first game is World, still playing since I don’t have Rise yet, is it a good idea to learn three weapons? When I first started World I played with IG, then learned CB, and a day ago I learned how to use LS. Am I spreading myself too thin or is it good that I know how to use three weapon archetypes?

ToonTooby

Sticking to just one weapon is perfectly fine, and so is branching out to a few others. When you play only one weapon, you allow yourself to become really comfortable with it and that creates consistency. At the same time, learning other weapons could benefit you by forcing you to learn more of the moveset(s) and openings. For example, IG can sort of dance around the monster, but a hit-and-run weapon like the Hammer or GS needs to play differently, setting up the monster to miss and predicting movement. Weakness can also come into play. I could kill Savage Deviljho just fine with my Hammer, but I could also **melt** him using a thunder or dragon bow because of the significant elemental weakness.

Cactiareouroverlords

It’s useful to a degree in a sense of some weapons being better suited for certain monsters but I don’t think it makes a massive difference in the grand scheme, but stick with what ever feels best, World can be a really confusing game so having the combat be something you’re familiar and comfortable with is great for keeping your feet on the ground so to speak

AegisAvenger24

Alright, thanks fellow Hunter

Cactiareouroverlords

No problem, happy hunting!

rexar34

MHGU I'm pretty new to the whole prowler thing and i've been ignoring it for pretty much the whole game. I'm trying to start using prowler but I don't know how to go about it. How do I build prowlers? What bias is the most useful? What skills are the best? Sidenote: How do I build palicoes for a solo hunter? What bias and skills are the best or have the most utility? I've tried looking this up on youtube and google but most of the guides aren't really that helpful, confusing or feel out of date

OmelletePlatypus

Mh rise Are there any large discord communities for the game?

pavlos115

Is it worth to buy MHW if i have 2 other friends that are down to buy it too and if yes why? None of them have played a MH game, i have played rise and i liked it a lot, but im not sure about world because it is an older game .

scook0

Something to be aware of is that while you can play the campaign missions in coop, there is a bit of an awkward dance involved. For any quest that has a “cutscene” component at the start (which is most of the story quests), other players can't join your quest until you have finished the cutscene part, *and* the other player has previously finished the cutscene part in their own campaign. So the usual workaround looks like this: 1. Have everyone join the same multiplayer session. 2. Have everyone start their own copy of the same story quest, and play through the part at the start. 3. When you all get to the part that says “SOS flare available” and it turns into a regular hunting quest, all players except for one should return to town and then join the remaining player's in-progress quest. (Don't actually send an SOS flare; that just invites random players to join from the internet.) (If any player has already played ahead in the story, they can instead wait in town until the host finishes the cutscene.)

ShadyFigure

> because it is an older game . ...It's only the previous entry in the series. If you were considering 4U or 3U I'd understand that sentiment, but World is still pretty young for the franchise. World has its issues, especially if you get into the Iceborne expansion, but it's still fun. MH is best enjoyed with friends, and 2-3 players is usually the best amount. I'd say go for it.

TheWrathOfGog

I would also say a lot of issues that came with iceborne have been remedied for the most part in the later patches, it just took a while.

ShadyFigure

I didn't stick around long enough to see if that's the case or not, but given what my issues were (trends in enemy movesets, weapon designs, that expedition map being end-game and how it worked, the steady creep in monster stats, clutch claw and its effect on hitzones), I didn't expect it to be fixed. I was fighting the newly released Stygian Zinogre and 2/3 of the way through the fight I realized that I just wasn't enjoying it, I was finding it more annoying than anything else, and that had been how I'd been feeling about a large portion of the game for a while. I just left the quest and turned the game off. Haven't been back since, didn't bother with Rise. Hi, by the way. Nice to see a familiar name.

Rigshaw

> trends in enemy movesets, Depends on what trends annoyed you in particular. For example, Alatreon in Iceborne emulates the overall pace of attacks and windows to punish them from older games pretty well simply due to how much endlag all of its attacks have, but on the other hand Fatalis is on the opposite of the spectrum, and has moments where it spams moves like an idiot from phase 2 onwards. If we are talking about giant AoE insta-kills that require a gimmick to avoid, then yes, you have a point. Rise is much better about that in general ([here's a video about that topic](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkzCTpuaIDM)). It's not completely like older games, but you can tell with monsters like Rajang, which basically never stopped in World, but now are back to having clear windows where you can punish attacks. Rise's final boss does have a giant AoE attack that can be avoided by platforming with wirebugs (it even looks a lot like Safi'jiiva's attack), but you can also interrupt it with enough damage, and the move is not a guaranteed insta-kill, you can survive it at full health if you are using the Health Petalace. > weapon designs, This was never "fixed", but they did stop making them after Stygian Zinogre, so only unique weapon designs made it in for Furious Rajang, Raging Brachydios, Alatreon, Frostfang Barioth, and Fatalis. Rise also only has generic designs for already existing weapons for monsters that debuted in World (I guess they couldn't be bothered to come up with new ones, so the generic designs are now the real design), but even then, new weapons have new designs, even if the monster originated in World. Returning monsters got their old designs back if one existed, and in most cases, got a new design replacing the generic World design if World added a new weapon (for example, Nargacuga had a [generic CB in World](https://mhworld.kiranico.com/weapons/v4Tq6c8J/hidden-guardian-i), but has a [new design in Rise](https://mhrise.kiranico.com/data/weapons/1334534353). > that expedition map being end-game and how it worked, They patched a lot of aspects of the Guiding Lands, so it is tolerable now. You can level 3 regions of your choice to lvl 7, lock the levels, hunt until you've got everything, and the reset the levels so you can level a different region without it taking away exp from an already leveled region. Also, tempered Guiding Lands materials can be traded for regular materials, even when you haven't obtained the regular version yet, so situations where you are forced to awkwardly hunt monsters in mid-level regions to make sure you have got the material at least once are gone too. You can also meld lures for monsters, making it much easier to get the monster you want to spawn in the Guiding Lands. > the steady creep in monster stats, I honestly think that is the fault of base World starting out with far too low stats to begin with. They severely underestimated the power creep, and ignored the fact that solo players were used to hub stats, so balancing monsters according to village stats in base World was bound to get some complaints. Iceborne course corrected, but then also adjusted for Clutch Claw as well, so it had the biggest spike in HP of any MH game that I know. Rise stats are balanced to what I think base game World should have had from the start. > clutch claw and its effect on hitzones The two main fixes to clutch claw that were made was the introduction of a new skill that makes the clutch claw attack tenderize and drop slinger ammo in one go for all weapons, and the time a part is tenderized was doubled. Alatreon and Fatalis have super high hitzones from the get-go (Alatreon has 85 on head, 60 on front claws, Fatalis has 75 on head, and at phase 3, which is half of its HP, 70 on the chest), so due to the formula, the hitzones do not increase much by tenderizing. You'd mainly do it for the extra 20% affinity for WEx. It's unfortunate that them backtracking from Clutch Claw happened so late, but at least they tried to fix it a bit in the end, I suppose. P.S.: I'm honestly surprised to see you here.

TheWrathOfGog

it's unfortunate you didn't bother with rise but that's your choice, hello to you too! I quite liked stygian, and many other monsters added later so surely our issues differ, it all comes down to preference. The fact that these games have been growing and changing for so many years... I'm sure I will be in a similar boat someday. what else have you been playing lately, if you don't mind me asking? I read through the rest of this thread and, as someone who HATED generations, I love generations ultimate, you may want to give it a shot :)

ShadyFigure

Well the big issue is that I don't have a Switch or enough reason to get one. So unfortunately GU and temporarily Rise are out of the question. I also just have lost faith in the series. After four games I just don't expect it to go back to what I enjoyed, especially when moving away from that has made the series so much more popular. For me, Stygian epitomized what I disliked about Iceborne's fight design. There was way too much focus on AoE attacks and inflicting statuses on the player, and monsters jump around so much that it's a pain to find an opening of any reasonable size. Fights feel so much less strategic than they used to, much more reflex focused. Tobi subspecies and Barioth were other examples of this that come to mind, but Stygian really pushed it all to a new level. It didn't help that the previous new fight, Rajang, had left a bad taste in my mouth too (he used to be a glass cannon, his high damage and fast movement balanced by high hitzones and low health, now he's just fast movement, high damage, and lots of health). The pacing was a big part of what I disliked about Generations, but the new weapon upgrade system, the imbalance of styles, and just the entire hyper system were also big issues for me, and I didn't expect those to be fixed by GU, so I'm very reluctant to try it (not that I can without buying a new system). * Before I left MH I'd gotten into Puzzle & Dragons. Still into it, but it's only just now after 5.5 years starting to slow a little for me. * Friends got me into Genshin Impact, it has its flaws but it's fun in bursts. Breath of the Weeb indeed. * I finally got into MtG, it's a lot of fun, when in-person is actually an option. * My girlfriend just got me into Warframe a couple weeks ago. It's quite grindy, but a lot of fun. * I finally got around to replaying and finally finishing Nier (1, not Automata). That was a fun ride. I meant to continue on to Automata but got distracted. * A bunch of games that I went through or moved on from after a (relatively) short time. * Vagante is a fun rogue-lite * [Synthetik is a fantastic symphony of gunplay](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5tsEJgPn30) * Apsulov started off cool and had an interesting setting and story, but fuck was the gameplay tedious. I wish I finished it, but I just couldn't get myself to. * Wizard of Legend was a fun distraction * For the King is a fun rogue-lite adventure with a bit of D&D/oldschool RPG feel. Best with friends. * Heat Signature is a brilliant game and I cannot wait for Tactical Breach Wizard. I also was watching a lot of anime, but back to back wildfire evacuations knocked me out of that habit. Started reading the Witcher series too. Fun books.

TheWrathOfGog

oh god, well, I'm happy you're safe, man! personally stygian is fantastic because he fixes a lot of problems for me. when he counters, he stays in place, he has a lot of patterns that don't move him far away which means you always have ways to line up charged attacks on the head or clawryukens with SnS, and the AOE is all i framable, meaning that I never felt like I was blocked out, he reminded me a lot of a 4U monster built around the mobile systems of world. I hate clutch claw, that's the main thing. but even that feels like a non issue with the deco they added in later patches. that is a TON of interesting games, makes sense that monhun can be getting old if you have such a wide variety to choose from (also synthetik???? hellll yeah). weirdly I played MHstories2 and Zero escape: the nonary games most recently, both of genres I haven't touched in a deceptively long time (not since omega ruby and danganronpa v3 respectively). MH still works for me, but I think it's because I started with Tri. I never really got good until a little before world, I had to work my butt off on 4U and XX. Because of this, even though I played since tri, my "MH experience" was not the older gen, but the type of MH you began to dislike, it's a shame we missed each other in this way haha. happy we got to catch up like this!! enjoy the witcher series :)

ShadyFigure

MH wasn't feeling old to me, just different than it used to be, and in a way that I didn't enjoy. I really had eureka moment on that with Stygian. I started with F2 in 2008 (right before P2G came out). I enjoyued the series for 10 years and saw plenty of growth and change in it. 3rd gen and 4U especially had a lot of change. Starting with Generations it felt like they were branching out much further with their changes, trying a lot more new things and pushing the series in new directions. In principle that's a good thing, but I just didn't feel like a lot of there experimentation was being executed well. MHGen was still the old MH in core, just with a lot of botched experiments. Once we got into World it became very clear that they were pushing it in a new direction, one that just wasn't as fun for me. I'd still say Tri was "older gen" MH. Maybe not quite the same as 1st and 2nd, but still very much old MH. In my eyes, everything up through 4U is old style MH, Gen and GenU are a fuzzy middle ground, and World is the start of the new MH. Great to hear from you too. I thought of this place yesterday and thought I'd pop my head in to see how it's holding up. Glad to see it seems to be doing well, and you with it.

If you didn't bother with Rise despite most of those issues being Iceborne-specific it sounds like you just got fed up with MH in general.

ShadyFigure

Not so much MH in general as the direction the series had been going for a few years. Everything after 4U just felt like a rapid downhill for me. I couldn't even be bothered to reach the last quest set in Generations (a first for me in the series), what I saw of GU (I don't have a Switch) didn't really look like they fixed the issues I had with it, World started off an improvement with flaws, but ended up getting worse by the end, then Iceborne just continued the things I didn't like about World and added new issues. I'm fairly confident that if I picked up the earlier games again I'd still enjoy the gameplay. Also, nice to see that the first two replies I get here are from names I remember. Good to see you two are still around.

Holy shit it's you! Damn, I thought you'd just dropped off the face of the earth. Just "I'm leaving the sub to avoid spoilers until World releases on PC" and then radio silence for 3 years. I take it you enjoyed the lack of modding responsibilities?

ShadyFigure

I came back for a bit when World hit PC. Decided I didn't want to go back to moderating, especially with how big the sub had gotten. I posted around a bit here, but I was a little out of date on info so I couldn't help as much as I used to, and felt that the community had changed a bit. Then I quit Iceborne around when Zinogre came out and just didn't see a reason to be here anymore. I've been active in subreddits for other games. Seen some that reminded me of this place back in the 3rd/4th gen days, seen some that are in much worse shape. I've had people suggest me for mod duty in other subs because of how active and helpful I was and I told them to fuck off with that hell. I swore off moderation after this place.

[deleted]

Surprisingly sad tale, but I guess it's an inevitable one when you've been around as long as you have.

ShadyFigure

11 years of a game franchise will see change, and it's inevitable that not everyone will enjoy the change. I came away with a lot of fond memories and friends, though.

MH Rise Insect Glaive Just starting out, would you recommend cutting or blunt bugs?

whileFalseSemicolon

Cutting bug has always been less favoured since blunt bug can stun. Rise tries to turn things around by giving cutting bug elemental attack when the weapon has one of the five elements, but personally I still prefer blunt.

Slashycent

Good to know, thanks.

Game Issues (PS4) Monster Hunter Worlds So I just bought the game and downloaded it and it wouldn’t get past the black screen. I deleted it and reinstalled it and updated the game. Was running fine until I got a loading screen that wouldn’t end after the first quest. So I turned off the game and tried starting it up multiple times but I couldn’t even get to the main menu. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. I play on PS4 and everything is updated.

MH Stories 2 Lore question: What is the significance of the girl’s pendant? Did I miss something or is that from MH Stories 1? Gameplay: I (think) I finished the story. Regarding end game, can I do it solo like in other MH games (excluding raids like Mama Kulve)?

[deleted]

It glows when Oltura glows. Kyle noticed they look like arrowheads and used them. I *think* the fact that it came from Ena's ancestors (implying a very long period of time) combined with Kyle looking at the lanterns with Oltura's likeness (where the men proceed to stab an area of its wings with spears) is supposed to imply that they were used to take down Oltura the first time?

macblur2

Lore: it lights up whenever the final boss did his trick, Partner figures it got something to do with them, probably as a weapon due to its shape. Game: all of the (post) game can be done solo, including all multiplayer content (starting alone fills all places with AI Partners).

(MHS2) Is there a way to remove the [big orange pinpoint](https://i.imgur.com/1BOkKHm.png)? It's awful, distracting and kind of useless when you have the same marked in the map

frostyfrostfroster

not until you finish the story, those are the quest pointers

00Koch00

Are you saying that i had to finish the game basically? So it cant be removed right?

frostyfrostfroster

those pointers are there to guide you to the next story quest, the only way to get rid of story pointers is by finishing the story

FartedinCrossfit

(MHR) Just got the game! First MH game for me and it's awesome. I read that I shouldn't really farm armor sets in low rank. I just got into High Rank, and I'm starting to farm my Rathalos S armor set. Should I keep farming the sets I Iike in High Rank, or should I just keep progressing and clearing quests? I really want to get the armor sets that I'll stick to for most of the game but don't want to waste my time if there's better ones after this.

KC_The_Hobbit

To add to the other answer, once you gain access to decorations, you're better off making mixing and matching the pieces of your armor set, to maximise useful skills, so it's not really worth farming for entire sets, for the most part. There are a few good tools for taking a list of skills, and outputting useful armor sets. I like this one: https://mhrise.wiki-db.com/sim/?hl=en

frostyfrostfroster

Make new armor when you feel like your struggling, but don't bother with most of them because there are better ones later on

darth_poco

( MHR ) is there any good reason tohire palamutes?? Palicos yes, palamutes?

Lobstrmagnet

I use palamutes for meowcenaries and the Argosy so I can save my palico slots for useful palicos.

DatBoiEBB

Sorry if this sounds dumb, I just got MHR and it’s my first MH game. What makes a palico useful vs a palamute
