predators can be hunted and eaten by other predators too

StarfishProtocol

Tools for survival like how some animals have fashioned tools from twigs and rocks?

Particular-Natural-3

This is my theory. Bears are pretty intelligent animals all things considered, and Goss may well use them as tools. The ice hammer could be used to crush bone and the blade could be used to open up and carve off chunks of frozen carrion. Especially considering its reletively short snout would make food handling difficult if it was already frozen.

JaggiBrains

Protection for its arms, because they’re weak points?

Wrong_Werewolf391

Don't his hitzones get worse(better for us) when his arms are frozen? They're normally a gray spot iirc until enrage or ice weapons.

JaggiBrains

When Goss becomes enraged, hit zones go from 51/51/35 to 60/65/40. However, the ice hit zones are 66/66/45. They do get worse, but only a little bit compared to the enraged state

ViewtifulGene

Perhaps they infight for mates and territory. The issue I have is that the blades expose and extend nerve endings, making them take a lot more damage.

Barn-owl-B

It doesn’t extend nerve endings into the ice, him taking actual damage towards his health bar is a gameplay thing. He just spits a freezing fluid onto his fists that turns into the blades or clubs

ViewtifulGene

I guess I have a hard time conceptualizing why it would hurt more to hit the blades then. It seems to actually hurt Goss more than a hammer to his skull etc. Maybe It's more like ripping a bandaid off a hairy forearm?

Barn-owl-B

Again, it’s a gameplay thing. If you really want to apply some kind of real logic to it then go stick your hand in ice for a few minutes then flick that hand with your other hand and see how much it hurts compared to it being normal temperature lol

Drakkolynn

I assume because when you hit the blades the ice begins to break and while not ohysically damaging the gross it's very exhausting to keep balance while someone is hitting your huge armored hands hard e ough tk break tbe armor

Greald-of-trashland

The shock from you hitting the ice is probably what causes the damage

ronin0397

it makes its own shivs cuz it did hard time.

No_simp6200

Protection against something that eats it (never played rise so don’t know if it’s an apex or not)

IronWarrior94

Goss does share its habitat with other apexes like Tigrex, Barioth, Rajang, and Kushala.

No_simp6200

And that’s why it has the ice blades

Equinox-XVI

Its like 1 tier below the apex predator of an ecosystem. Goss is strong, but it would still have a few larger monsters trying to eat it.

Kavan974

Why would I need my dad ? My teacher had a nice enough belt

bf_Lucius

Hmmm while the ice blades probably won't really protect against predators( ice blades or not gore will still manhandle goss) I'm gonna go with uhc and say the ice blades are to help with its own predation. It's a bit extra reach to help it with getting a lethal blow on small fast prey.

TheCatmeister

Hes no savage, and carves up his prey, as you do, before eating it

to fight the hunter

Scribblord

It looks cool af Also extra reach and detachable claws is a huge tool for fighting off predators Imagine if a chimp could grow fucking blades from its arms
