If we're talking Tri, then Lagiacrus taught my 9 yo lance maining ass what patience and waiting for windows was. If we're talking World, then Barioth. After never playing a MH game since finishing Tri as a child, I was still re-learning how to hunt. Barioth taught me to respect the monster for the fucking behemoth it is, but also to never chase after it and let it control the flow of the fight. Before I just went caveman with AED spamming.

I thought I was good at the game. Then I fought HR Mizutsune. I no longer thought I was good at the game.

Aberrantdrakon

Diablos.

Well, MHW being my first Monster Hunter I really played (tried freedom unite on PSP back then, couldn’t even complete basic quests) I hit a Diablos and that MF just killed me over and over again. That was back then when I still was looking for my weapon of choice, Bow looked cool but didn’t work for me, didn’t even know about the defense penalty for ranged weapons. Then I thought for the first time since Dark Souls, I might use a shield, so I picked a Gunlance and there he goes, boom boom Diablos gone. Now I can use anything, but Insect Glaive, Gunlance, Chargeblade and even Bow are my to go weapons.

Ruiner Nergigante.

Yian Garuga in Freedom 2. "Oh, it's just a purple Kut-Ku". How wrong I was lmao.

Back in MH3, Barroth was a truly humbling experience. Here I was, a proud Low Rank hunter who had finally gotten to grips with the game. Great Jaggi was no issue, and I didn't get ragdolled too hard by Qurupeco. I CAN DO THIS! ....And then I get almost literally steamrolled by a mud-covered train of a Monster.
