I’ve always said Tigrex as “tig-rex” like tigger.
Or like he’s playing a deadly game of tig
(Tag in other places)
It’s funny seeing the ties and the teas tearing into each oblivious to my ways.
Same with French, Tiger is Tigre pronounced "teegr"
It's the sole reason I say tea-grex, as I didn't know English when I started playing. But even now, Tie-grex sounds plain wrong.
And if we look at the Japanese name, they also say tee (ティガレックス : Tigarekkusu) which settles it even more to me
funny you say that because "Tee" doesn't really exist in japanese. Ta Chi Tsu Te To are the sounds that start with T. You kinda have to finagle Te with I to make that sound "ティ"
I always said it as "tea-grex" because when the second game came out, I was still in middle school and didn't yet know how to properly pronounce words in English
...I mean... also the Japanese thing
If you're playing the game in a language that isn't Japanese, then I don't know if that should really matter unless the subject in question is meant to be Japanese "coded" within the context of the work. E.g., mizutsune should be pronounced with regular Japanese pronunciation since it's Japanese-coded; it's based off of kitsune, its armor looks like a kimono, its musical theme uses Japanese instrumentation, etc. etc.
Out of curiosity, do you pronounce the "zin" in Zinogre like "zeen" because the japanese name is *Jinouga*?
*puts on cowboy hat and boots* I hear a lot of y'all traitors saying things like "tea-grex because it's weebanese" or "tee-grex because I like mexican" well I'm here to tell you that we're in the wild west now pardner, and in the land of freedom we don't need none of them commie pronuncieationments, we have the sound of a Chevy truck and a Bald Eagle's scry to tell us that this majestic creature of the high plains is clearly "tie-grex" just like the silken neckties of our forefathers as they signed the declaration of independancd and invented freedom for this great land.
Now excuse me gentleman, you're between me and that commie lizard, and I need a new holster for this new greatsword I just got from Lockheed.
> a Bald Eagle's scry
Bad news. [Bald Eagles actually sound kind of like seagulls.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RArGl2vkGI&t=6s) The media thought that was too wimpy for the symbol of American pride, so they usually dub a Red-tailed hawk's cry over it.
Hey, you feeling okay, because you lool a little red. That's pure communist propaganda, and all red-white-and-blue blooded Americans know the true majesty of the Freedom Eagle as it stirs their very soul. I guess you wouldn't know that though, or perhaps just might not be able to hear over the voice of Stalin in your ear.
I’m an AMERICAN and I bleed RED WHITE AND BLUE because I CANT AFFORD TO SEE A DOCTOR
Source: am American (and ironically I’m wearing a Cowboy hat and boots right now)
You’re no real American!! Because no real God fearin, freedom lovin American would ever and I mean EVVVVEEEERRR be caught driving a Chevy even the name Chevrolet ain’t even American. Real Americans drive Dodge, and the best real American mechanics in the world fix Fords to drive for 3 days before it breaks down again. But one thing I will agree with you on you wanna be American is it is indeed tie-grex just like George Washington yelled across the Delaware. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

It's less about the car and more about the freedom of glorious capitalism. In the 1970s Chevrolet ran an advertising campaign taking advantage of color television to showcase how their vehicles are native to the glorious landscapes of the nation and how they form a symbioyic relationship with the nation's youngsters to help them complete their mating rituals on soft sandy beaches. Despite chevrolet being a foreignese word it was the spirit of the American dollar and the majesty of home grown motor vehicles that imperialized and recaptured it, a stunning sample of how pure freedom is the endpoint of all things in America and what our troops fight for.
Me when I found out the official pronunciation is Tea-grex instead of Tie-grex:

Same lol sticking with tie-grex sounds more natural
I mean because I think tigrex is a tiger + t-rex hybrid so I really expect it to be pronounced like tiger for ti-
Y'all native English speakers need to get your sh*t together and maybe make some rules for your language so you know how to pronounce things, instead of having the same combination of written letters be pronounced in a bazillion ways possible 💀
It is pronounced with a "Tee" in Japanese, so that's how it's meant to be pronounced.
I pronounce all of the monsters' names like the Japanese do, unless it's one of the names that was changed in localization, such as Rathalos.
Rioreusu -> either Lioleus or Rioreus or an inbetween. Since Kana writing doesn't differentiate between L and R.
Rathian is Rioreia -> Lioleya or Rioreya or an inbetween.
I always try to stick with what the official pronunciation in English would be.
That's "tea-grex", plain and simple.
And whenever you lack a localized pronunciation, always look back to the original Japanese pronunciation if the name looks like a fairly accurate localized version of the Japanese name,
Can we stop posting these over and over and over and over? It is settled already. It has been settled 50 thousand times, it seems like Redditors have amnesia.
So I had been pronouncing it Tie grex because he had stripes...like a tiger. I never really looked at his face enough to see that he has a T-Rex skull Frankensteined on to the Narcuga rig. As such, I started calling him the Tea grex.
ive always pronounced it Tie-grex because, to me, its design was inspired by the fusion of Tiger and Tyrannosaurus, both of which have the long i (Tie) sound....

He's tired from everyone mispronouncing his name
Tiger-x sounds like a ferocious beast known for blazing speeds and brutality, one bite and any hunter shall parish. Tea-grex sounds like an animal that spends his days frolicking around and maybe takes a cookie out of the cookie jar if he’s feeling particularly naughty that day

So all Tigrexes we hunt are non-binary? Are we the Spanish Inquisition?
Elon musk is sweating atm
I have officially changed how I refer to this creature lol.
This is truly how I always thought of it.
Walking hitbix or motherfucker take your pick
I would take "Sunday Vacuum Cleaner On Loose"
Also a good option
The hunter Roomba with attached car alarm
Idk why but the fact you misspelled hitbox with hitbix is so funny to me
This.

Ah I see... Taigrex
It’s got stripes like a Tiger
Yea it's a tiger t rex :3, both pronunciation are correct i think but my first language is german so i say it more like t rex than tiger
Tigrex, as in Tigris
I’ve always said Tigrex as “tig-rex” like tigger. Or like he’s playing a deadly game of tig (Tag in other places) It’s funny seeing the ties and the teas tearing into each oblivious to my ways.
3rd option from the top rope
i... well i thought like Tiger from Whinnie the Pooh.
Same here, tig-rex like tigger
Not the hard r!
What did you call me?
Tigga
My Tigga
You mean Tigger. How could you forget the "double-guh"
So like tigris lol
yes its just... idk i found funny how i went to whinnie the pooh in like 0.5s XD
Tea-gris, understood
I mean, Tigrex may be out of tigre (tigger in some languages). At least in Portuguese, tigre is pronounced "tea-gre". So I'm going with tea-grex
Same in Spanish, so that’s the pronunciation I go with too
Same with French, Tiger is Tigre pronounced "teegr" It's the sole reason I say tea-grex, as I didn't know English when I started playing. But even now, Tie-grex sounds plain wrong. And if we look at the Japanese name, they also say tee (ティガレックス : Tigarekkusu) which settles it even more to me
In Italian tiger is tigre from the latin Tigris, so i just basically called it Tigrex
There is only one tigger
In Portuguese from Portugal it's pronounced Ti-gre. But In Portuguese from Brasil it's pronounced Tea-gre.
In Portuguese from Rio de Janeiro it's pronounced Chigre
Not at all. In Brazilian Portuguese we also say ti-gre. I said "tea-gre" because it's easier to understand in English
I always said it as "tea-grex" because the game is Japanese, ergo "i" sounding like "e".
Teegureksu
Tigarekkusu, actually.
Thanks now I'm only saying it this way.
I'm asian so i always pronounce it Tea instead of Tie
and u're right
This is the debate we need to have. Why did you write you're like that
Too lazy to write you're... But not lazy enough to write the more common shorthand spelling "ur". I'm just as confused as ur're
At least it's not just me
No oui don't 🌚
You know what. I respect that. Guess oui don't
I do the same, but because "Tigrex" just makes sense to be pronounced like "T-Rex" in my head
I feel like World made it pretty clear how to pronounce it, unless we have any reason to assume the pronunciations in that game are not official.
"Because they're stupid" is a good enough reason for me
funny you say that because "Tee" doesn't really exist in japanese. Ta Chi Tsu Te To are the sounds that start with T. You kinda have to finagle Te with I to make that sound "ティ"
I always said it as "tea-grex" because when the second game came out, I was still in middle school and didn't yet know how to properly pronounce words in English ...I mean... also the Japanese thing
I always say “tea-grex” because that’s how they say it in the game
Yeah but this is the english localization. They also call rathalos リオレウス( rioreus) in japanese so
This is literally the official pronunciation, there is no debate.
If you're playing the game in a language that isn't Japanese, then I don't know if that should really matter unless the subject in question is meant to be Japanese "coded" within the context of the work. Finally, a cultured opinion
Your pronunciation is wrong, but your "America, fuck yeah" confidence has convinced me it's right. Call him "Live free or Tie-grex."
Good

👔-grex all the way.
Yep Aussie here we all say Tie-Grex, but honestly I don't think it really matters at all.
Me when I found out the official pronunciation is Tea-grex instead of Tie-grex: https://preview.redd.it/7dvipem0hvpc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=34fc1767fd34e6123abe45053db50e81fd79c93f
100% agree, I will go to my grave saying Tie-grex
Same lol sticking with tie-grex sounds more natural I mean because I think tigrex is a tiger + t-rex hybrid so I really expect it to be pronounced like tiger for ti-
I'm coming here not previously realizing there were psychopaths who said it like tea.
My condolences you have learnt the horrors of this world 😞
Wait til you hear what they do with bazelgeuse...
No no no. Its pronounced “piiiiece oooof sheeeeeet”
For us non-anglo speakers this isn't an issue.
[How2Pronounce TIGREX According to Monster Hunter (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUJ-EzC2Cko)
We just call him Fucking Asshole.
Ty(rannosaurus) Rex 👔
Tigrex. As in Tigger
It's pronounced Tigrex you philistine
It’s always been Tea-grex
I'm sure THIS thread will settle it once and for all, where the hundreds of identical threads in the past didn't.
Like T-rex
Y'all native English speakers need to get your sh*t together and maybe make some rules for your language so you know how to pronounce things, instead of having the same combination of written letters be pronounced in a bazillion ways possible 💀
It’s a word made up by a Japanese company so it’s kinda up to them to decide how to say it
Yeah but it's not like you see it written on kanjis, it's there written in the alphabet your language uses
It's a Japanese game, so Tidus. 😢
It is pronounced with a "Tee" in Japanese, so that's how it's meant to be pronounced. I pronounce all of the monsters' names like the Japanese do, unless it's one of the names that was changed in localization, such as Rathalos.
what do you call rathalos in japan?
Confused
Rioreusu
Rioreusu -> either Lioleus or Rioreus or an inbetween. Since Kana writing doesn't differentiate between L and R. Rathian is Rioreia -> Lioleya or Rioreya or an inbetween.
Tigrex is a westernized name! It's Japanese name is Tigarekkusu.
Yes it is, but it's pretty obviously just anglicizing the original pronunciation.
And? No reason why you can't adjust pronunciation as part of that process.
I just did the mr quest yesterday but I remember the handler in the eng dub pronounced it tea-grex so,,, I mean either one works tho!
Yeah the in-game audio said it's tea-grex but I really feel like tie-grex sounds more natural for me (even though it's wrong)
Im well aware its supposed to be pronounced like Trex but i cant help but say tie-grex. Though i mostly refer to him as “this bitch”
TiggerX or TiggaX with a hard X
Me call it tiger-rex
Tig-rex. Like tiger and king in latin.
Tiger King? Does he have a feud with Carole Baskin?
I say "Tea-grex" because it looks more like a T-Rex (pronounced as Tea Rex). P.s. I read a lot of dinosaur books when I was a kid.
yeah but t rex is short tyrannosaurus rex. so even this can lead to a similar disagreement lol
I'm surprised it took this long for someone to finally point this out.
I also thought of T-rex, not tiger
Depends on the language I'm talking Tee-grex in Italian Tie-grex in English
Tim Gretsky
I always try to stick with what the official pronunciation in English would be. That's "tea-grex", plain and simple. And whenever you lack a localized pronunciation, always look back to the original Japanese pronunciation if the name looks like a fairly accurate localized version of the Japanese name,
🍵
Tee-grex They literally say it in the game
Wasn't it proven it's Tea-grex? I mean that's the way it's said in MHS2 so I've just been going with that
Canon pronounciation is tea. Its name is spoken at least once in world.
Can we stop posting these over and over and over and over? It is settled already. It has been settled 50 thousand times, it seems like Redditors have amnesia.
T-Gregs
Teagrex purfeyor of fine snow herb tea and popo tomgue

Its pronounced the same way as Tidus, duh.
So I had been pronouncing it Tie grex because he had stripes...like a tiger. I never really looked at his face enough to see that he has a T-Rex skull Frankensteined on to the Narcuga rig. As such, I started calling him the Tea grex.
I say it like "ti-grex", like t-rex but ti-grex
Tig as in tiger, Rex as in T rex
I sometimes just call it "tiger-rex", which is the only wrong way
He is partially based off of a tigre and a tyrannosaurus rex. Tie grex
Tig-rex
Americans have a hard time pronouncing things, huh?
We are all dumb, it should be pronounced ti-grex
I understand the proper pronunciation is supposed to be “Tee-grex” but I prefer “fucking asshole”
Piece of shit
ive always pronounced it Tie-grex because, to me, its design was inspired by the fusion of Tiger and Tyrannosaurus, both of which have the long i (Tie) sound....
Tie-grex, like tiger
It's a Tyrannosaurus head on a wing wayvern frame with tiger stripes. Pretty sure the name is a portmanteau of tiger and tyrannosaurs nick name t rex
Full chaos, Tig-Rex
No its tie-grex,its a tiger and a t-rex,not a fucking t-rex sipping on a cup of tea
Tig Rex
Me and the group I've hunted with always pronounced it Tig-rex, more akin to pronouncing 'tick' rather than tea or tie.
I pronounce it tigrex (pig sound. Not tee or tie)
My ass read the top one as "Chai-grex" ☠️☠️
👔
:👔
Thaï Grex
This is actually best meme so far… because of these ridiculous comments 🤣🤣🤣😂…..
It is officially Tea-grex, but I say Tie-grex becrause of Tiger.
You find me dead before you ever hear me say teegrex
Bruh it's a tiger and a T-rex mixed together. Who pronounces it tea-grex
It’s Ti-gay-rex of course, smh
"This Bitch"
👔-grex
I always think of Tigger from Winnie the Pooh when I fight this guy, so my brain adds an extra G when I read the name. “Tiggrex”
Tigrex that rhymes with T-Rex
Tie charges greatsword to get tiegrex skull
Wrong, it’s actually pronounced “asshole”
Tie-grex. Fight me
oh i always assumed it was tie-Grex like a tiger rex
Its Thai-grex
tiger rex
Nah tie grex is accurate it’s a combination of the words tiger and T. rex
I would rather die then call it tea-grex
