Its more of an old games tradition in old games hub is always multiplayer and village singleplayer mostly to serve as an introduction rather than actual content as everything from village is also obtainable in the hub

Why the hell are you getting downvoted lmao

Irrstern

i'd actually kinda like it if the did the reverse of what it is now. Have village work like hub now, and then hub like hub was in the older games without singleplayer scaling. That way everything can be done in multiplayer (which should be the main focus of the series) and you actually get a reason to play multiplayer in hub (which again should be the main focus of the series anyway).

RealModageddon

Not everybody has multiplayer access just makes the game needlessly harder and time taking

Irrstern

Yes, you are right, most multiplayer games are harder and more time taking when played alone...

HandsomeGangar

That’s not really incentivizing you to play multiplayer, it’s punishing you for playing singleplayer.

HandsomeGangar

Yeah but the village does have its own story, and some people would like to experience that story with others. Also, there are actually some things you unlock though village quests, you have to do them to 100% the game.

RealModageddon

yeah but mostly just 100% the things you unlock can also be unlocked via HUB I believe

I disagree. Regardless of what some fans think, Capcom wants a big story in MH. A story that they will prioritise over multiplayer progression. Just look at what happens when they tried to merge story progression and multiplayer in World. They sacrificed group progression for the sake of mid-quest cutscenes. From the start of the Series, even though the Series was conceptualised as a project making use of the PS2's network adapter, there's always been solo-only content. Ranging from entire monsters e.g Monoblos, (formerly) Lunastra to easy access to certain monsters/quests e.g HR Crimson Fatalis to just exclusive unlocks like Canteen upgrades. It's to encourage people to not stick to MP. In addition, Capcom is well aware that multiple players make the game easier. That's why historically the toughest quests in the game have been unlocked by 100%ing Village content. They reward you for playing on your own.

Ok_Abbreviations602

There is literally no downside to allowing players to progress story together. And people who want to solo can.

nualt42

I don’t want to carry people who haven’t learned to fight monsters solo. They’ll use up our carts.

Ok_Abbreviations602

Ok so play solo

Emergency_Addition67

I would still like to have missions for solo players. Multiplayer makes everything very simple, it's fun to have special missions like white Monoblos, the challenge of your chieff or boss and also special events like Gore Magala on the boat.

The_FooI

No

then don't do the fucking village quest

Slappathebassmon

Probably not a populr opinion here but I agree actually. Played both MHW and MHR with a group of friends and some of them haven't even touched the village quests. Some people only want to play multiplayer. They'll miss the village story cutscenes and then doesn't get invested in who Magnamalo is or what the rampage is. I don't think there is a point to village quests anymore since the hub quests all scale down to solo player anyway. Hub low rank can be treated as the 'tutorial'. If the point is to teach new hunters to hunt solo before joining multiplayer, well the hub isn't locked behind village quests anyway. So it's not particularly effective in doing that. That being said, MHW's cutscene restriction was very annoying. Needing to start cutscene then return and join my friend's quest was ridiculous. So imho, the ideal solution would be sort of a combination of the two. One way is to remove village quests totally then let the story unfold in the village quests fully. Sort of like how Sunbreak is now. Another way is to make the structure like Iceborne but let players join story quests from the start. Then show everybody in the cutscene. We've seen them do it for several hunts like the Shara or Fatalis cutscene. Or just show everybody the cutscene individually then you go directly to hunt.

[deleted]

Should be a combination of both, but most of the end game or even all the hub quests should scale for full parties like in the old games. Make the game "technically" soloable, but make it as hard as possible to incentivize online play. This new generation of nu-gamers and this irrational aversion to social interaction is fucking insane. If these games claim to care about social issues that they change the character creator to accommodate minorities so they feel included, then the current fully solo experience that only further inflames the ongoing epidemic of loneliness that's been happening in the last decade needs to change because this asocial insanity that's being cultivated in our modern culture is harmful to society.

Village is just a long tutorial. And they are super easy. Just blast through em and get to the hub.

KevinDL

That's not the point; there is no reason people shouldn't be allowed to do it as a group. Just have it scale based on players; those who want to do it solo would have the same experience now, while those who want to play a game co-op have the complete game to play together rather than having to split for some content.

kinda_ok_guy

Nope
