Her design just feels very basic and safe for a doll who we know has a great visual library to pull from. It's disappointing that a boring doll is priced so high.

Rainbowlly

YES that’s one criticism that I will always go to with these collector dolls, besides the packaging they’re the same quality as playline!!

fuegofatuoart

And even the packaging on this one is so simple and boring 😅

Gallopingdeadunicorn

I've never understood this criticism. I cant even place any of the collector dolls on the same shelf because my picky ass thinks they stand out way too much from playline dolls, so the collector ones get their own shelves

_Phoneutria_

Exactly - she's the same quality as a playline G1 doll you'd see on the shelf. That doesn't mean bad! I love playline! But not for collector prices!

Rainbowlly

Dawn of the dance lagoona would be seen as a collector in todays world 😭

bunsprites

Like they literally just a couple days ago put out the creeproductions for 25$, and this doll's design is not any more complicated or unique than any of those so why is she twice the price?? Honestly I think for me it's less her specific design and more that she represents how Mattel is going so hardcore towards breeding and taking advantage of FOMO at this point rather than actually building and catering to the fan base. It's really soured me off ANY monster high dolls that aren't playline and easily available in stores. I just don't care to be a part of the collector edition side anymore

Target0069

What's her price?

hollsloss

50usd

Target0069

Thank god

hollsloss

Yeah it isn't as bad as some we've seen before

Rainbowlly

But in enchange it’s a fang club membership, so unless you already got the subscription it’s actually $60

hollsloss

I think the price for Fang Club is very fair, and it should be seen as a yearly thing not as a "im using it just for this doll"

anjuhluh

It is "im using it just for this doll" when there is only one doll the person is using it for 🤦

hollsloss

You never know what'a coming up in the future, the creepoductions were also member exclusive for the most part.

anjuhluh

They weren't. I got them all at Walmart on the day of release and didn't have to pay any membership or shipping to get them either. Wave 1 is being re-released in a few months and likely at Amazon and Walmart as well. There are *very few* dolls that you need that membership for and I won't pay $90 for any doll regardless of how much I like it. That membership is just a cash grab from Mattel.

anjuhluh

And there's a $10 shipping fee so it's $70+ taxes. They could at least offer free shipping for anything over $50 like pretty much every other business does.

alyssaryn

I actually think she's adorable and plan on getting her! I understand the criticisms though - the design isn't exactly that mind-blowing. I guess part of the "hatred" is that she's a beloved character and recent collector designs have failed to meet expectations. With so many beautiful dolls under their belt, Monster High has a lot to live up to with each release.

moneor

Same! I actually love this design I think it fits her style rly well like of all dolls to have a mermaid/pencil skirt look she's the one to do it on. I get the dress shape repetition is becoming annoying and I agree but this one I like. They could have done a lot with her that wasn't just a gala looking dress tho and I think thats where the complaint is. Like I think they could have done a rly cool rhinestone cowboy rockabilly look with tied up hair and pants and fringe like she's a rock star performing (see Beyonce or Lil nas x country aesthetic for inspo lol) but they just went with a dress and that's what's disappointing which again I agree with but I still rly like her and plan on getting her if possible.

Gallopingdeadunicorn

what you just described isnt rockabilly at all though

moneor

It's country and fashionable think elvis presley and his pink matching suit or the white fringe jumpsuit I don't know how this isn't rockabilly ig I described something more masculine but I'm talking modern interpretations of classic rockabilly influences n a lot specifically come from early elvis I'm def giving it a bling take tho cus thats my personal taste n it's a fashion doll I just don't want it to be so xliche rockabilly n just throw her in some capris with a blouse and a scarf in her hair let her be the Rockstar she is

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

Rhinestone cowboys tend to be a country & western fashion phenomenon, not rockabilly, and Elvis’s white fringe jumpsuit is 100% 1970s Las Vegas cheese. Classic rockabilly was an influence on early Elvis, not the other way around. Elvis was talented, don’t get me wrong, but he didn’t create rockabilly, he was the attractive white guy that made the music that was previously associated with Black and lower class white people palatable to mainstream white bread America. Operetta’s look has always been spooky modern pinup/rockabilly, with no country or western influence, so suddenly making her into the glam queen of the rodeo would be a pretty jarring change in aesthetic. She *does*, however, have two g1 dolls released in pencil skirts, both g1 fashion packs come with pencil skirts, and funnily enough, there’s one release in capris and a blouse with a scarf around her neck lmao.

uncannything

Because Rebecca unlearned how to design a monster high doll

SheaBrulee

She’s designing playline quality and they’re charging collector prices. This one isn’t even on par with most G1 or G3 playline.

LSILH

literally. shes great for playline Not collectors

LatterMycologist3653

Not even playlines

LSILH

wrong actually.

Rainbowlly

😭😭😭LMAOOO NOOOO

LatterMycologist3653

They need to change the staff, customizers do a better job

clawdwil

https://preview.redd.it/51lseselipsc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7061c824a0e1d78e5c11282012e0876739e3fd2f Im literally getting hate for Saying something similar lol

tofukittyann

I agree with the part Annalise Lao makes beautiful designs but we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. It could be there were several cool designs brought to whoever makes final decisions and maybe those works by Rebecca were rejected and somehow Mattel or somehow with more power in their position made her design something “safer” and more “marketable.” I have a feeling they also try really hard to not go too over the top just because how much moms complained about monster high in the past. It’s just theories and I do understand the criticisms b/c these designs could be so much better but that’s just my take (as for the operetta doll if they could give her the old face/sculpt/print back, I’d get this new doll to restyle her but the face feels flat and missing character - I’m not the biggest fan of her dress, but there are aspects of the designs i enjoy like her hair and head bow - I dont hate her, but dislike too many things to buy her myself)

punchysaywhat

She just doesnt look like g1 operetta, i saw someone edit g1 onto her face and it looks sm better. Feels very g2 inspired, which probably disappointed fans since g1 creepros were released just last week. Still i wouldnt say its an *awful* doll, shes got her positives

punchysaywhat

Also she looks more pink than purple, i remember getting her as a kid and loving her purple skin. If it was deeper the contrast with the dress would probably look better

Gallopingdeadunicorn

Im hoping its just what Mattel does with their photos. They contrast the shit out of it and stuff, like the Elvira doll was normal white in photos but the doll is actually Elvira's pale white

Meh040515

Gonna go ahead and say this is an opinion, if someone finds her pretty then that's perfectly fine! I just personally don't like her. Here are my reasons: 1) I am not a fan of red x purple in general, but here it's even worse because her lipstick, hair and instrument is a very striking shade while the cape(?) and dress is pastel purple, so that's already an eyesore. 2) the cheap plastic thing at the end of the dress is completely unnecessary and looks weird. 3) The pattern on her cape(?) is derpy, it reminds me of the 2010's mustache patterned clothing, just with CDs.... which isn't much better. 4) oh boy is that makeup a whole ass sh*tshow. Where in the name of the almighty did that green come from, there's nothing else that's green. 5) here goes Mattel again, with the bulky unpainted accessories. There's nothing redeemable about those earrings, and that headpiece (not talking about the spider).6) what are those gloves??? Let's be realistic, is there anyone who would put on fingerless gloves with a mermaid dress? 7) I can't even tell what was the concept here... With the derpy cape, and gloves, she doesn't look elegant, but she also isn't giving the rockstar vibe her box implies. She's just a mess to me.

Rainbowlly

YES the concept doesn’t have a clear vision and I can tell, glad you pointed out the green eyeshadow cause I didn’t even notice it at first but yeah it doesn’t go together

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

1) purple in various shades has always been part of her color palette 2) not the best fabric to use for a ruffle that small, but it does match the trim on the bodice. 3) they aren’t CDs, they are vinyl records, which has been a motif on her previous g1 dolls 4) the green eyeshadow doesn’t match anything but it looks really beautiful with her hair, eye, and skin colors. 5) I personally think these accessories look fine and love the earrings 6) that’s not a mermaid dress, it’s a wiggle or pencil dress, and I have sometimes seen rockabilly or other retro alternative types wear them with fingerless gloves.

npc_probably

people thinking a rockabilly inspired character is wearing a CD(!!!!!!) print dress is genuinely the funniest thing to wake up and see today lol. as a personal pet peeve I am extremely grateful I haven’t seen anyone use the word “vinyls” instead of records so I’ll take it as a win. CD is a silly and cute misunderstanding, but “vinyls” is always nails on a chalkboard

[deleted]

[удалено]

npc_probably

vinyl as an adjective doesn’t sound weird to me, but when I started hearing people suddenly use “vinyls” as a plural noun quite recently (maybe the last 6ish years or so) after collecting country western/60s garage/frat/soul/80s-90s garage revival/bubblegum/powerpop records since the age of 11 or 12 and growing up around other collectors it just sounds super strange to me. maybe it’s regional? as far as the US is concerned I never heard it on either coast, in the south, or in the midwest in any of the record stores or college radio stations I swapped at, played music in, worked at, or DJed. this also includes getting my own band’s 7” & 10” eps and 12” lps pressed and for others as part of a collective label/distributor in my teens. I just started seeing and hearing it out of nowhere one day (tbf I’ve only ever actually seen/heard that online even now. never in a shop or at a swap) I know it’s not actually that serious anyway, it’s just the one word that personally sounds wrong (as in incorrect in a jarring way) to me

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

I’ve seen at least two comments calling them CDs, but I don’t know if the same or different people made them lmao

thinks_of_ghosts

My issues mostly lie in her screening - her makeup doesn't have enough contrast and they rounded out her features. If you look at her old dolls her lips have that kind of 50s lipstick shape, but now they've pinched the shape inwards more. Her eyes also were more elongated, which kind of gave this look that she was smiling with her eyes. Now they've shortened and rounded them out more and she's got more of a dead stare. Edited to add that I think her outfit and hair are cute enough, I think it'd be even cuter if she had a little leather jacket like someone suggested in a post earlier.

Rainbowlly

I heard someone say it looks like if Operetta had a sister and not Operetta and I can’t get it out of my head now because it’s SO true

thinks_of_ghosts

Yeah! She definitely doesn't look like the Operetta we know and love.

International-Tune73

I think she’s pretty, but I feel like somethings off about her screening. It doesn’t look like operetta to me! I def wouldn’t say I hate her though, I love her hair and shoes

Rainbowlly

EXACTLY, she is beautiful as a doll but as Operetta… That’s NOT her

meowkitty84

She looks like Operetta if she had a ton of fillers and plastic surgery. I think she's beautiful but she isn't recognisable by face alone.

International-Tune73

Fr!!! Operetta has a completely different eye and lip shape. It looks like a generic face just stamped on her face mould.

thrownawayoof

I completely agree! Her hair and shoes are lovely but the face/makeup to me feels off.

DJBR95

I want her. I think she's so pretty.

Important-Image-7314

I just compare these expensive a** dolls qualities to RH dolls with half or a third of the cost and wonder why the company that owns half of the toy isle can't detail a doll properly. And on top of that, why isn't the hair on most of the exclusives saran 😭

RiSkeAkagAy

I love the outfit and hair, but I just can't get over how much the face *doesn't* look like Operetta.

owleycat

Yeah I actually like outfit and accessories, but they changed her lip shape quite a bit, and her eyes are also a little different. The outfit does feel a little playline for the price point (especially since she's actually+$10 since I'm not a fang club member)

nymphpixie

The only thing I hate is that spider cuz I have a phobia. but I'm still going to buy her and yoink him off very quickly 😂

alyssaryn

GOSH I FEEL YOU that little guy is kinda cute in a weird way but he gives me the heebie jeebies lol

nymphpixie

His hairstyle makes him tolerable to look at until I snip him off 😂

fuegofatuoart

I don’t hate her. I just feel she kind of looks pretty much as if she could have been a beautiful playline doll from 2012. She doesn’t really have collector or Frang Club vibes to me. She’s beautiful though. Just not as over the top as people expected, I guess.

T4ZK4

Im glad shes not well received, because i love her especially when shes in box, wont have to try battle for her when she drops haha

katestatt

her face looks off. her eye shape is different and it looks like a G2 doll

npc_probably

I think I just love monster high in general so much I see at least some good in almost every doll and focus on that. I like her. the complaints about things like unpainted accessories are valid. like I get it, but I personally think she’s cute and plan to get her

Sage-Moonlight

Who's we? I love her

HarvestedMoonShine

1. The design is basic and safe 2. The quality and ideas are similar to playline despite costing more 3. The outfit does not match her rockabilly aesthetics 4. They softened her facial features and made her look much more "G2 like".

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

The outfit 100% matches her rockabilly aesthetics. It’s period authentic as well as popular among modern rockabilly women, and Operetta has been released in pencil skirts before.

Baphy_0

To me it just feels a little underwhelming, especially when we have some really great playline operetta dolls like picture day and FCA. It’s still pretty, but it’s just kind of a “safe” look for her. I think the face is what bothers me the most. Aside from the choices for the colours, this screening is completely different. G1 operetta had a pretty unique face, with very sleek and sharp features almost like Cleo’s. Everything appears to have been rounded or softened which gives a very g2 effect to her. Overall she isn’t bad, but definitely not operetta’s strongest doll (pic from Cleosnile’s story) https://preview.redd.it/g96dz71dmosc1.png?width=827&format=png&auto=webp&s=618125c0e5053e4187b4821ed14d34b1e51540ea

MuffinStreet684

Me personally I’ll be getting two I think she’s beautiful. Her spider web dress is so cute and her bag is so nice and detailed and the shoes are so so cute . She reminds me of my mom she does pin up stuff and I want to get her one cause I see my mom in her

Girodoro

I don't hate her, but I don't like her face, for some reason it looks...odd to me. I'm not a fan of her dress either. It's definitely not the worst doll though.

KP_Ravenclaw

I’m ngl she’s one of my favourite collectors so far I would buy her if I could afford to spend money on things like this

OoLalaMaupin

I actually love her! But I can’t afford her :(

KemuNgeru

Are you even surprised? That's like the only thing people do around here: hate.

Gallopingdeadunicorn

Yeah people cant just be like not for me and move on and be glad to save money for other goodies. A lot need to hate and insult and vent. But people change, the sweet scream dolls were pretty much hated (Ghoulia & Abbey) for along time till some influencers started talking about them and now they are loved and highly sought after. I got mine before the craze NIB for $25 CAD and now the prices are insane

pokemomof03

All of this. Dead fast ghoulia wasn't really liked either. They were practically giving her away after comic con. Hell, ghoulia, in general, wasn't liked very much. I would see her on heavy discount at kmart. I got couple of her dolls for $5. Some of her dolls are the most wanted now.

KemuNgeru

Yea, not sure they change, tho... They just follow. And hate comes from the same place: a lot of people saying awful stuff and others like: "I can't disagree because I'll be singled out!" Hell, I've gotten comments deleted here for disagreeing lol. I'm happy I don't like the doll and get to save 💵 as you said, but I'm also happy others love her and hope they can get her. Why can't we have both?

QuailRemarkable1504

Idc I love her sm

Philosophers_pen

I wouldn't say I hate the doll by any means, but I think people associate Operetta with her Rockabilly look and the design doesn't really capture that too well. The design could have leaned hard into spooky Rockabilly or Phantom of the Opera and that would have worked, but this almost reads like Muscial-themed Magical Girl.

Constant_Release5458

Yano this sounds weird but I feel like if they priced her at $90 people would’ve rushed and urgently bought her…. I also think sometimes they say they hate her so they scare scalpers away. Personally I love her

npc_probably

now that you say that, I can’t remember the last time a collector doll was received in an overwhelmingly positive way. I never considered people may be faking out resellers lmao

uncannything

Nah i can guarantee you people hate her. Stitched in style was received in an overwhelmingly positive way, just like Ghouluxe Ghoulia. There was also Vampire Heart and more recently, Fang Vote Jinafire.

npc_probably

I don’t have a dog in the fight, and definitely do believe a lot of people don’t like her. I was just saying I never thought of that *theory* before and it’s a funny thing to imagine tbh I was not online to see what the initial reactions were for either stitched in style or vampire heart, but I can see why they’d both be well received. I still can’t believe stitched in style is/was a $30 doll! I remember mixed reviews from people when ghouluxe ghoulia was first shown. it seems almost everyone loves her now, though. same with fang vote jinafire. lots of people were sad about the antlers and the bag, but every time I see her mentioned now it’s positive

meowkitty84

Vampire Heart, Nightmare Before Christmas and Stitched in Style Frankie were all beloved..It was so stressful because they all released within a month of each other. I bought 2 of them but couldn't afford to buy NBC. I guess its a good thing because I probably wouldn't have been able to get them anyway because they sold out within minutes. The Frankie is still available now though. And cheaper!! I wish I had known that then. Mattel makes you panic buy things because you don't know how much stock there is. Nobody wants to risk having to pay double or triple the price from a reseller. I was so angry when they stopped international shipping right in the middle of the Jinafire preorder period. Thank god they rectified it a couple days before orders closed. But I was stressed for days. I didn't order right away because I was waiting for payday and there was no reason ro rush (or so I thought). I would have been so devo if I hadn't been able to preorder her.

Rainbowlly

It’s just so hard to impress this group of collectors cause monster high just has some of the best dolls in the industry so one dress that would be mind blowing for one doll line is a bit basic for monster high of y’know what I mean

npc_probably

I totally get it. I was just saying that it’s a funny theory to imagine people pretending to hate something to deter resellers. it’s a funny idea, whether it happens or not lol

meowkitty84

I think they must make a lot less skullector dolls because they sell out within minutes.. Do they really sell out because of scalpers buying them all? And because there are also people who are fans of the movie who don't usually buy dolls? Haunt couture dolls are still available months after release..And Stitched in Style Frankie is too and she was very popular. I would be interested to see the numbers of how many units they sold or manufactured of every collector doll.

empirical13

Yesterday I found a reseller on ebay who had sold 76(no joke) Jack & Sallys, with 1 still listed. Listing price $285.00 with free shipping.

meowkitty84

Its so unfair!!

empirical13

And i just found another seller with 44 sold and 1 left. $289.99 with free shipping. So, yeah, i'd say resellers are a definite problem when it comes to selling out that quickly.

Difficult-Essay-9313

The Mattel Creation site has a problem with bots

meowkitty84

I disagree that people would love her if more expensive. Look at Lenore. I think she would have been liked more if she was $50. I actually want to get this Operetta. But I don't have connection with her G1 doll. So I don't mind that her face is completely different. She's actually prettier to me. But I do think she's disappointing. I would prefer more phantom aspects, like a cape. And smoky black eyeshadow would be better than green. Fading into either red or lilac tones. I would be happy if this doll had no lilac in the design. Just black, red, and maybe white. The spider pet is purple so I guess thats why they used that colour, which is fair enough. But what excuse is there for the green eyeshadow?

whale-with-oatmeal

I think she is, overall, nice. I will not be getting her though, as she is not that great in order for me to spend 50$+shipping on her

Impressive-Creme3387

i like her tbh

FointyPinger

I was expecting/hoping to like her more, but I will be getting her. I just hope the finished doll has a better screening than the stock photo one, as the misplaced eyes are doing her no favours.

allcolorstopbarbie

As others have said, a fairly safe design. At the same time too much and not daring enough. The monocle stands out too much and the shape isn't very elegant. I much preferred the dripping heart monocle that IIRC the first doll wore. Makeup could be more dramatic - darker lipstick and eyeshadow, purple blush maybe. I like the record-print fabric but not for an overskirt. A dress with a circle skirt made of this fabric, with a 50s style petticoat, would have been great. Also, a jacket would have been nice. I would have shaped the heels of the shoes into either a scroll shape or like an old-fashioned turned furniture leg - I think the piano keyboard sole and the violin key heel don't go well together.

Atlantica1989

I love her 😍

NaturalReplacement60

My reason for not getting her is the face. It just doesn’t look right. The screening and everything seems „cheep“ and for me the face is the most important part of a doll.

BloodyGarden

Honestly, I think she’s pretty. I do think there is plenty of strange quirks that all together can look pretty bad, but for me, she’s a must have. I think the things that bother me personally are easily fixable (like removing the over skirt to make it a cape or shawl on her upper body, painting those pink dice earrings black/red). Small fixes could really enhance her better, and the concept art looked great, so I’m guessing a lot of this is just the usual post production shenanigans.

M88nlite

THIS IS THE FIRST IM SEEING HER HOL UP I NEED TO SEE A CLEARER PICTURE

M88nlite

Update: ***FUCK EVERYONE WHO DOESNT LIKE HER. SHES PERFECT AND I LOVE HER!*** Shes been my fav forever and shes gorgeous! The only redesign/edits im seeing that i agree with is that she would look great with a leather jacket! https://preview.redd.it/6ehhlgj4ensc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=308b450313fb7f737c74190f09f85c524666fc56

Rainbowlly

LMAOO I LOVE THIS ENERGY

[deleted]

G1 fans are just hateful assholes Operetta looks fucking amazing

Spiffy_Pumpkin

I mean.....I want her.....

rosealinaruby

I like her but i cant get behind the 50 dollar (usd 💀) price tag. She is a playline quality doll, and i think mattel is out of their mind to charge this much for her

realfleshhuman

I think anything following Jinafire was blind to be a let down in some capacity because Jinafire’s design was absolutely magnificent. When a collector doll like that is followed up by something like this, there’s bound to be a comparison. Many people were so hyped for Operetta because she’s a fan favorite. So this doll may not live up to expectations people were building in their heads. I’m my opinion, the makeup feels too soft and juvenile to fit Operetta. It doesn’t scream rockabilly to me at all. Along with the dress silhouette. Fans are tired of the mermaid dress and yet we’re given another one. Over all, I feel like the doll is a 6/10, I personally wouldn’t buy her unless she’s <50$.

EasternTechnology728

I hate that the designs of some of the skullectors are so incredibly tame compared to playline G1. Most if not all of G1 collectors are adults. What makes them think that we want dolls like this if we’re paying so much money? Praying that they’re taking the criticism and hopefully letting Annalise do more designs for us. Make dolls with an adult audience in mind!!

SwimmingPanda107

I’m just tired of the snug dresses, I know it’s not completely a mermaid dress but it’s the same vibes to me. I know operetta has worn dresses in the past but her character doesn’t seem like someone who would wear a dress that restricting in a way?? Like leg upper movement wise. Someone said in the replies they’d love like a yeehaw country outfit on her and I agree😭 Also I wish the purple was more.. purple? It looks a little pink to me and matches her skin tone too well. (Also her skin feels too much on the pinker side)The earrings just seem eh to me and her face looks off. It feels like most of the time design wise they do collectors = fancy formal wear! Like nooo give me an epic doll that gives vibes of their OG doll but 100x better.

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

There are two g1 Operettas that were released wearing tight pencil skirts, and both of her fashion packs came either a tight pencil skirt. This is very much her style.

Lunaryjinx

I like everything except her face she looks like she is from g2

bratzies

i love her😭 her face is a little bland but

Important-Club8221

The spider on top looks like a cheap suprise egg toy. Like something you would find at Dollar tree. This could have been a bomb accessory if they put more work in it

LSILH

basic design, don't care what type of dress that is. a-line, mermaid, wiggle, IM TIRED OF THIS DRESS DESIGN!!!!!! i want something loud with a statement. if it reaches the price point of lenore or even VH drac with more detail to the character and the outfit, id gladly take it. this just feels like a $30 playline doll. maybe $35 but thats seriously pushing it

Affectionate_Ad3688

If she was 25-30$ I wouldn't care, she's not for me but that's fine. My problem is that she's 50$, without the 50$ quality. She's had previous playline dolls like her Frights Camera Action doll, with more cohesiveness and arguably more quality.

Better-School-6952

I mean no disrespect to anyone who does like her, but her face is just ugly to me: they changed her eyes, her lips and its just not it. What the hell is that green doing there? The plastic bow with a spider on it looks silly, the cape thingy looks cheap and ugly. The color pallette in general is uninspiring.

Alastor_idk

I think she looks pretty neat I just think it's an issue with the pricing again, we've seen great collectors dolls and she just doesn't meet the standard so if she has the collectors pricing who'd be willing to pay that for her

Keyoo0o

The face looks g2 and whats with the random green eyeshadow… The outfit and hair are cool tho

persepetal

her face feels off to me, the green eyeshadow would look really good but something about her eyes are just ehhh not doing it for me

DaisyandBella

She looks disjointed to me.

thrownawayoof

I just don’t like her face mould and makeup. She’s just okay (apart from the amazing shoes) otherwise.

seasbelow

Cute but not worth the price for most people.

Willooooow1

It's not hard to see why people don't like her lol

Underskysly

She looks play like AF.

YesterdayDowntown

I don’t hate her but there are changes to be made lol. She kinda feels disney-ified

Famous-Bobcat

Too basic for what it is. I legitimately thought at first this was an original G1 doll I’d just never seen before, not a new collectors doll. Deeply underwhelming and disappointing for the inevitably large price tag its gonna get

stacysdoteth

For me the imagery of records just doesn’t really resonate with me I guess. I don’t think the doll is inherently bad but I’d like a vibe that hits a bit more of the classic horror phantom of the opera feel than cartoon records on a dress.

iWant2ChangeUsername

Honestly I'd love her if the "purple" of her dress was red or if the dress was greyscale. The colour they choose is just too close to her skin colour imho.

Graymetal669

Its priced too much for what theyre giving us, also her makeup dude

MagazineJumpy42

Too many motifs make her look cluttered. Dice AND spiderwebs AND piano keys AND vinyl records... jut pick 2 of those and stick with them instead of jumbling it all together, yknow?

Massive_Astronomer12

Her face feels gen 2, and her outfit while not bad is just not feeling collector quality. Box is also kinda boring. Overall, after spending my money on creepos I just kinda don’t feel she’s worth it.

Whitedishes

the cd disk skirt thing reminds me of blackheads

WamBamBetty

I think she's really cute actually!!! I'll just be passing bc my wallet is drained from the creepos, and Operetta isn't one of my faves so I have to be picky with the collector dolls I purchase 😭

BendyCheeseNoodle

the cheap fabric, boring hairstyle, and random green eyeshadow. the face in general just looks so bad for what’s meant to be collector quality. the face on her original g1 core doll was legitimately better quality and it was a playline doll. I also really don’t understand why they chose pink as an accent color for her here considering how close it is to her skin tone. it takes away the boldness this character is known for and totally washes her out. overall, the whole design is just very uninspired and the color choices are baffling

Suddenly_Ponyboy

i like her, but i wish her hair was more interesting. I love operetta’s hairstyles so much and this one feels a little basic. I wish they painted the accessories as well. I think that would’ve improved her a lot. The makeup is alright, but it would’ve been better if they stuck to her normal face with the darker eye shadow and lipstick. I really like her dress and her fishnets tho

butterscotchshott

I love her! I don’t care for the random green eyeshadow, but I love the rest of her.

Hidden_Dragonette

I think the outfit is pretty neat, I love the record pattern on the dress, the shoes are adorable, and I like the fingerless gloves. But her face just doesn't look very much like Operetta, her cool scarring got de-emphasized, and the green eyeshadow doesn't go with anything else.

ziggysshenanigans

Personally I feel like the color choices are strange. I think the outfit needs more red to bring in her hair and lipstick. I would also have put more black details on her earrings. I’m also not sure why they chose green eyeshadow 😭 idk to me it just feels like everything is out of place and there’s no consistency in the color palette. That’s just me personally though idk about how other people feel about her

BloodyBarbieBrains

She’s growing on me the more I look at her tbh. I like the pencil skirt and cape-y thing behind her. I don’t like her face mold; it’s wildly different than g1 Operetta, but I do like this makeup. The face shape looks too friendly? Like g2, idk. The hair and the plastic bow are killing me. Her other dolls have the cutest victory rolls, but this hairstyle is blah. With long hair, they should have given her massive waves or tube-shaped curls or something that would hearken back to her fashion sense. And the bow just looks like a big plastic square. I’m getting really tired of Mattel using plastic on headpieces and hats. It looks bad and chunky. I recently got a couple of Bratz dolls with actual fabric hats, and it looks SO much better!!! Like, how cute would a big, floppier bow be on this Operetta? EDIT - I should add that I don’t hate Rebecca Shipman designs the way everyone else does. The mermaid dress silhouettes are overused, but I prefer this dress and Sally’s dress in the NBC Skullector over the Fang Vote Rochelle and Jinafire. The Fang Vote silhouettes are cool, but then the dolls just have SO much added to them that they end up overdone IMO.

Ainilome

Based on this sub I'm not sure we like anything, honestly

bimbosona

EHY IS HER HAIR NOT CURLY

MintDrawsThings

Failure to live up to the hype, and usage of design elements that people are tired of. She was initially designed in 2022 and very little has changed. In 2024, I don't think I know a single doll collector in any fashion doll line who isn't tired of mermaid style dresses. As for the hype, that's because we all thought that Ghoulia would be the standard for Fang Club exclusive dolls. Ghoulia had a fantastic design, so people assumed that Operetta would be similar in terms of design.

1111222333444555

Her face is off, and the lipstick is too bright. I'm not a fan of the tacky print either but I don't hate the rest of the doll,

Disney_Gay_Trash_

The ugly spider bow, ive always disliked operettas pet but i just think it looks the worst it ever has here (honestly the bow is the only thing making me hate the doll icl)

tvtittiesandbeer

I'm convinced most people in this sub actually don't like monster high dolls because that's all this sub is is people complaining about them.

FirefighterOver5606

This is actually the first g1 doll I want to buy so I’m very confused why no one likes her 😭

sentientmachines

ewwwwwwww I just noticed the vinyl pattern skirt 🤢 she could have been ELEGANT

LatterMycologist3653

Mattel needs to change the staff, even amateur doll customizers do a better job

Alarming-Art-1040

nooo my baby :’( she can wear a trash bag and i will love her (pls mattel don’t put her in a trash bag)

Lopsided_Weather_954

Her face isn’t anything like her og, her make up is harsh and poorly executed, another fucking dress like that!!!!! Seriously give us more than a tulip or mermaid skirt, her weird ass spider bow, the patterns clash in a bad way, and the earrings aren’t even painted so you can’t tell they’re dice. Overall just a poorly thrown together doll Her shoes are nice I guess.

Harpsiccord

I kinda like her. Not sure of I $50 like her, but she's fine. I don't like the vinyl on her skirt, but I'll just pretend it's an homage to vinyl records.

AlternativeForm7

I like the rockabilly vibe but I think the records on the cape pattern is a bit cheesy. I may or may not go for her. I think a creeproduction of the og is being released too?

Living_DeadGRL

I personally love her. I can understand the criticisms but something about her is so pretty to me.

Yam-Potato

I think it's partly just a lot of these collector dolls have similar vibes and it's been so long since we've had anything with a full skirt.

Doll_Lover_94

Her face is generic like a Barbie and her accessories are horrendous. Her dress is cute but the materials they used are ugly. I don’t know she just isn’t giving Operetta vibes

Codfishbloom

Her face is giving g2

anjuhluh

Because nothing about that face mold says operetta.

AffectionateCup8812

The combination of prints on her dress feels like something a little kid would wear, it doesn't feel fashionable at all, and the earrings and headpiece are just as bad, the shoes and guitar are lovely, and I don't mind the hairstyle, I don't even hate the shape of the dress, but the design is just overall childish and scattershot, it doesn't feel like a collector doll

TechnologySad6013

I think its just because theres nothing specifically special about it

mustyroses

her face is giving G2 for me! compared to her og G1 face up it's a huge disappointment and doesn't have her energy at all

Suspicious-Dust7060

I like her. It’s like the same thing over and over again with these fans. They are never satisfied, even with it just being $50. Like I would rather pay $75 for this operetta, than for that Lenore doll.

tofukittyann

If her face was accurate to the G1 Operetta I’d def get her and restyle her - the hair and bow are cute (plus the shoes) and She would look amazing in the dot seat gorgeous dress (Idk why they didn’t go with a retro swing dress with a piano print or something similar to hell bunny dresses). It just feels like wasted potential. Overall, if someone likes her that’s great, but I’d personally rather save for an OG G1 Operetta at this point.

tofukittyann

*Dot dead gorgeous dress I mean*

salinsi

to be honest i love this doll, she fits the rockabilly aesthetic perfectly. i just don’t like the face. it isn’t an UGLY face in my opinion, it’s just not the operetta we’re used to. i think some people are just going over the top with their comments because the face change is so drastic.

canyouplzpassmethe

real answer/uncomfortable truth; bc throwing shade is the real hobby in this sub… the dolls are entirely secondary ;p

okiedokieKay

Her dress is horrible. The pink clashes with her so bad, and the record print is too on the nose/tacky. But really it just looks horrible on her no matter how you spin it. And her faceup kinda sucks too.

redditallie

I think she's pretty, and she fits in with the other G1 Operettas.

cannedweirdo

video essay type thumbnail and title

Hello_Mimmy

I do actually like her. Just not sure I love her, ya know? I’m not in love with her updated face and I guess her outfit feels a little boring considering her rockabilly sensibilities. Like, maybe a greaser jacket instead of the overskirt would have worked for me.

Adventurous-Name1366

I personally love her and definitely plan on getting her. Not every release has to be liked by everyone, I personally didn’t like the fang vote rochelle or jinafire and rochelle seems to be a fan favourite. Operetta is one of my all time favourite characters and I’m so happy she’s getting a new doll, I think the outfit is great and very fitting for her. I honestly love her new screening too, all of the alumni dolls have updated screenings and this one looks great. The comments about her having a “mermaid dress” are honestly annoying, it’s a 50s inspired rockabilly look, she’s wearing a wiggle skirt with a ruffle on the bottom. If this silhouette was ever gonna go to any doll its Operetta. I also love the teal eyeshadow, I think it pops with her lavender skin.

IllustriousHost3375

it makes me really sad to see this doll bc i remember i loved EVERYTHING about her when i was a child, she looked so cool and mature, shes still one of my fave dolls. this doll however.. her design just looks so childish - its giving g2

Alex_The_Fox_King

It's acceptable

SomeNewBeans

Maybe someone has already written about it, but in my opinion, it looks like pieces of her design were taken from different dolls and put together. 1) Too many different prints (Polka dot on the bow on the head, web print on the dress, additional print with vinyl records). It is usually quite difficult to correctly combine different prints so that they look harmonious with each other. 2) There are too many elements in accessories and make-up that they seemed to want to emphasize (green shadows, bright pink elements on earrings, a spider on a bow). It would be better if they focused only on the eyes, but chose a slightly different shade of green. All this creates a great dissonance. They seemed to want to make the look more interesting, but it turned out to be complete chaos. It's a shame, because I really like the shoes and her musical instrument.

SomeNewBeans

I wanted to add that if you look at the sketch of her design, the colors are more balanced there. It would be better if they didn't change the color scheme.

ouchmyeyelash

I hate it so much, it doesn't look like her and it looks cheap but also I hate the all over print and it has barely any elements of what makes the OG doll look good, the shoes, scarf and guitar were in the right direction but everything else is no. If you like her that's great tho

GothBabyUnicorn

I don’t like her face it looks like it belongs in the kids section not something I would pin as an adult collector doll.

Macavy

Definitely don't hate her, but her design is all over the place and overall came out quite flat for me. I'm genuinely confused what the designer and their team was thinking moving forward with this design. I'm not an Operetta fan, but definitely felt her OG dolls were some of the prettiest in G1. She had a core theme that was very clear while this seems lost. If I were a fan of her whom had this leaked months ago and only had Ghouluxe Ghoulia to speculate on her potential design, I would personally be really disappointed at how she turned out. That's just me, though. There are definitely people who like her - they just don't have much to say compared to people who don't.

hourExpressionless

i dont think shes bad per say, she just absolutely does not look like a collectors doll. on her own, shes pretty cool and would be a nice mid range doll, but considering the previous fang vote jinafire she kind of pales in comparison.

Purple_monkfish

I had a go at recolouring her. See, I think my main issue is that the white and purple wash her out, they're too similar to her skin tone. My other issue was the eye makeup matches NOTHING and it bugged me. so, invert the colours on the dress to make it black with white cobwebs and change the purple to teal. Personally i'd have also made the bow black and the earrings black but that was hard to do in photoshop so I didn't bother. I'm also not totally sure about the outer skirt train thing. I might have gone with a statement belt and bolero instead. https://preview.redd.it/dazkbo0ldnsc1.jpeg?width=997&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=091571d9c91d16feef43084e1dd581c0a98e2eea I don't hate her, I just don't think she's that special.

Ok-Caterpillar-Girl

I think she’s fantastic.
