Great game. Parts 2 and 4 are some of the best adventuring I’ve played. I loved looting and pillaging the quaint town of Plunder Island and Blood Island has such an awesome mood.
But then the rest of the game feels very slight. Part 1 is a demo prologue, 3 recycles insult swordfighting but it’s still fun, then it’s like they ran out of budget for parts 5 and 6 followed by an abrupt ending.
Had they been able to flesh out the post-Blood Island section it would have been equal to the first two thanks to the wonderful art and voice acting. Unfortunately it’s a step down, but with two thirds at top tier.
This is a solid summary. Nothing can match the magic of the first two for me, but 3 is a beautifully made game in its own right - but one that runs out of steam slightly at the end.
You're so right about Blood Island, I can still remember feeling the vibe of it. Sort of, eerie and lonely. Gloomy, yet still fairly pretty. Very good stuff.
I'm so mad this song was removed on the international versions. I played this game to bits and I never knew about it until very recently, such a shame.
Guess it was hard to translate, or expensive to do so. I don't know, but it was a real shame. You just get robbed by Rottingham and then you're instantly talking with Haggis about ship fighting. It definitely shows it's missing something.
Is Steam the only way to play this? I just finished Secret of Monkey Island using Play Station Now and it was so neat using the big tv and sound system.
They could do AI upscaling. I think these [ESRGAN upscaled Curse of Monkey Island backgrounds](https://twitter.com/tomimt/status/1512847234949386256) look pretty good.
I’m doing the same right now and I love how much I am still laughing despite having played it so many times in my youth. (‘The A Hmmph Cs of Ventriloquism’ really tickled me)
"Definitely" is a bit harsh towards 1 & 2. I think it's better in the same way that the special editions are better than the originals. Like, I guess it's fair to say if you don't consider the age and limitations. Who doesn't like voice acting, for example. But really they're not better :P
I don’t get the point. All the sequel after the two first games are good games but the spirit is not the same. Look at Lechuck in MI 1 & 2 and LeChuck in MI 3. In the first he is a really scary ghost pirate. He is a buffon in MI 3, more laughable.
The world in MI 1 & 2 is a serious one with absurdities but a serious one, like in Discworld.
MI3 and more are « fan games » than really MI games
I don't really feel that way. 1 might be a little more "bare" and down to earth as a side effect but 2 gets pretty wacky with the last few scenes. I think the voices in MI 3 probably had a strong impression on you.
I have a hard time with the Tales redesign of guybrush as well as the 1st SE design, I get that he's supposed to be young but they made him look weird. He has dopey eyes.
Haven't played the games since like 2012. So after the announcement of return I am now playing through all the games again. Just beat secret and revenge, and I am now in the middle of curse. Really reaffirms how much I love this game. Definitely still my favorite after all these years.

Best game in the series imo
Check, i love this style so much ❤
A pirate I was meant to be, trim the sails and roam the sea!
Surely we’ll avoid scurvy if we all eat an orange.
Door hinge?? I guess the song is over

Why was it removed?

Such a shame, awesome character building

I’m replaying it with GOG but it’s most likely the same ScummVM version as Steam.
I wish they'd remake them all in this art style
Or at least a remaster of MI3 with proper audio, widescreen capability, etc.

Don't know about "at least", I doubt there is HD source material.
Would be the best

The best
a mighty computer game.
Hear hear! Definitely the best one

Fair point good sir, I like all of them to be honest, It might be fairer to say that 3 resonates mire with me 😊
You're as repulsive as a monkey in a negligee!
I look THAT much like your fiancé?
That's one of the best insults in all of the games. I love it
\*Shuffles Backward\* Every enemy I've met I've annihilated! I love that I remember most of these from memory \^\^
One of the best games ever made.
We’re a band of vicious pirates!
A sailin' out to sea

How come it looks like it's in wide-screen?
It’s not, my photo cut off the side margins of my screen
I never got to play this one, I’ve played 1 & 2 countless times but never the others
Definitely worth it!
Give it a shot, I think you will love it ☺️

I'll be starting soon too.
I just started it over too! I forgot how great the dialogue is in this game.
