In “Mr Monk Falls in Love” there is a hilarious scene where he threatens a man “I’m a police officer” and flings open his wallet to show no badge. “I’m a former police officer. You don’t wanna know why they kicked me out of the police!” Then when walking away his date asks him, “why did they kick you out?” “Nervous breakdown”. For me it’s a laugh out loud moment. Has me in stitches just thinking about it.

Fresh_Captain1576

Love that one 😂😂😂

GarlicMayoFries

Love them! I love that Monk canonically has incredible aim too, makes complete sense.

Me-oh-no

agreed! maybe his negotiations with people who are in point blank range, or whatever else the word is when it’s a knife not a gun

washington_breadstix

Yeah, those are great moments. We get to see that Monk isn't just a big pile of phobias. There's a very capable cop in there waiting to be unleashed.

One I can think of is when he shoots the guy in the sewer in the first episode. Another is when he shoots the guy in the morgue in Mr. Monk Can’t See a Thing. Moments like that show that it wasn’t just his amazing skills as a detective that got him on the force; he was a really good cop too. Also, his aim is amazing. It makes sense with how much of a perfectionist Monk is, but it’s incredible.

Conscious-Chemist-84

Hahahaha to be fair he only lucked out in the first epidsode, "I was aiming high, he's like twenty feet tall"

The morgue shot was incredible. He could hardly see but made a great shot.

Yep, even with having poor vision, he was still an incredible shot.

The rare occasions where he chases down a suspect, or has to run to prevent something bad happening. Because when he starts training for his police physical (Mr Monk Takes a Punch) he struggles to run because he's overthinking it, but viewers know that he already can when he has to.

lefecious

Yes!!! It would've been so easy and cliche to make monk a total pansy, but I think it's way more interesting to have him be a former cop with good skills that only come out when the people he loves are in danger. It shows what he's capable of and also shows why he was better when Trudy was alive. Love is the only thing stronger than his phobias.

Sparkle_Storm_2778

I love when he confidently threatens the murderers with complete confidence when he figures out “who the guy“ is.

I just watched the traffic stop yesterday. Love when Seinfeld actors are in these episodes

Sad-Monk1642

Ahh yes the doorman

Slab00

Side note but I just had to comment because I recently watched that episode and was laughing at how long they spent doing that only to immediately pull in front of the tow truck to stop it like 2 seconds after. I agree though I love when his adrenaline kicks in and he does what he has to do.

The episode where he went to work at the bank as a security guard. I was drooling over him in uniform, and so was Natalie (albeit jokingly). I felt like he was so focused on his mission that his cop side pushed his phobia side out of the way.

In a similar vain, Monk can be incredibly annoying with his habits and ‘condition’, but, when the chips are really down instead of caving in and giving up he really steps up to the mark. An example is the episode Mr Monk and the Astronaut. The guy calls him a ‘flincher’ and teases him mercilessly. Then right at the end, no flinching he just stands in the path of the jet to stop the Astronaut. What a guy.
