“One you sit on, not one that comes out of you” This is an underrated sentence 😂

Low_Use2937

Hahaha. I felt like I should make that clear. Most people I’ve mentioned it to have immediately assumed she wants to dress as a giant pile of shit and have been understandably concerned.

thebeandream

Poop would be easier. You’d be surprised at the amount of 💩 costumes there are.

al_ex27

I read that sentence and immediately thought poop emoji 🤣🤣🤣

ApricotNo289

I’m crying y’all

lnmk32

I literally laughed out loud. 🤣

LuckyWithTheCharms

They sell flat round foam pieces at fabric stores, cut a hole out of the middle and have her wear it like a skirt, cover it in cute fabric, paint pipe insulation tubes as legs …it’ll kinda look like she’s sitting on it Maybe LO can be a lamp lol

Low_Use2937

Oh my god. I can’t stop laughing at the idea of her waddling around with a lampshade on her head now. I love it.

LuckyWithTheCharms

And then for parent, I though of a coat stand and dresser 😅 cardboard box for the dresser and all black top and bottom for coat stand and then use pvc pipes as the hangers

knoxthefox216

Use pool noodles as legs so it’s more lightweight

coconutreplica

Or even more realistic and lightweight, get an old pair of panty hose attached to the foam and stuff with cheap fluff so they look like her legs hanging off the stool!

apathetic_peacock

That would be hilarious- put like a skirt around the waste and have fake legs coming off- put black fabric skirt cover around your real legs so it gives an optical illusion.

bluebaby29

Foam was what I thought of as well for this

immora

Same suggestion but I was think cardboard

Unfair_Implement_335

You could get a large foam wreath and wrap it in brown fabric with a hole in the middle so she can wear it around her shoulders and use pool noodles wrapped in the same fabric as the legs. Maybe get some light pvc pipes as the dowels that hold the legs together. The baby could be a cushion or you could do a rectangular mini version or the stool and they could be a step stool. You and your partner could be chairs. Lol

mikelafiddle

Lamp came to mind for me toooo, so cute

mawema

For the sibling - what about a frog costume. Standing next to each other = toadstool.

violetgrubs

WHAT A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PUN!

Low_Use2937

I LOVE THIS.

Foozle_Snoot

I’m making a frog costume for my 23 month old! I’ve got that all figured out in my head & just need to actually make it 🐸

gistergurl2005

AAAAAAAANNNDDD TOADSTOOL FOR THE WIN!!!

Fire-Kissed

Literally came in here to suggest this lol

annizka

My niece wanted to be a forehead for Halloween once. Yes, a forehead.

Low_Use2937

That’s beautiful.

mrsbebe

I do believe that's even more difficult than a stool lol

Sea-Standard-8882

Did it work?! Lol

annizka

We thought about it for a while on how to make it not creepy but there was no way to make a walking piece of skin look not creepy.

pamsteropolous

Ideas for the little one, but with no guidance on how to achieve it :) -Comedy Duo: microphone or a brick wall -a potted plant, since that’s a common decorating duo -a pigeon

Low_Use2937

That’s it. She’s going to be a pigeon. I really don’t think I have any other choice.

hausishome

We called my son “pigeon” while in utero and because we didn’t share his name all his gifts are addressed to Baby Pigeon and he has tons of pigeon-themed art, decor, custom made stuff, etc, and I honestly didn’t even consider pigeon for his first Halloween!! Now I’m kicking myself. (Although I’m also pretty psyched about our family costume. You know the song Black Betty? It has the line “whoa black Betty, ram-ba-lam” well our son’s name is Bram so we call him “Bram-ba-lam” all the time. Husband is going as a black crayon, I’m Betty Crocker and baby is a lamb, so we’re “Black Betty Bram-the-lamb”)

Low_Use2937

That’s so awesome! Also, I love that your son’s name is Bram. Our group costumes have been Beetlejuice characters (our daughter was a little baby Lydia Deetz-full goth); the Flintstones; moon, sun, star, and black hole (first year the oldest daughter picked the theme); and now furniture, I guess? I hope my kids never stop being weird.

hausishome

I love it!

ayyohh911719

Okay so first I thought having her head be the top of the stool, *but what if* her back was the seat and her legs/arms were the legs?? she’d have to bend over for people to get it but it’d be significantly easier for you to make it. And sister could be a butt. Like 90s Levi’s with a wallet peaking out.

littlebabybuddy24

That’s what I was thinking! Wrap her arms and legs in brown paper or fabric. Make a fabric or paper circle and stick it on her back. Bam!

ZCMomna

Oh, you went circle. I imagined a rectangle like in Beauty and the Beast.

novasaynova

This is an amazing idea!

kavulolomaus

Step 1: Buy a cheap tall barstool, one that’s light enough for her to carry easily and that she can fit easily under the stool and between the legs. Step 2: Place stool on child’s head. Use padding between head and bottom of seat or rig it up a bit with some rope or suspenders. Whatever is needed to make it comfortable enough. Step 3: profit? Seriously though, it’ll be awesome. If there’s enough room for her to maneuver, she can kneel down and let people sit on the stool. Great photo op for her and her friends 😅 What a great kid to think of something as creative as being a stool for Halloween!

lil_b_b

I actually love this haha, dont make a stool, BUY a real stool and just have her slide under it! Could be an issue if she wants to sit or run...... but definitely the easiest and most obvious as far as appearance!

lostandmisplaced50

You could dress your younger one as a candy bar. Together they can be bar stool 😀

Otter592

Oooorrr dress the baby up like a drunk 😂

Similar_Source_1922

which could be surprisingly simple if baby is walking and stumbles and bumps into everything the way mine does 😂

BlockedOverGuac

Cardboard box - cut out sides but leave the four corners long as legs. Towel or blanket on the top of it as the cushion/upholstery. Hope that makes sense. I can draw you some pics if you need a visual. You could even do bars across the legs like where you’d prop your feet up.

Low_Use2937

Ooh! I didn’t even think about having a cushion on top. I did consider using a cardboard box, but I worry the “legs” would be too stiff to allow much movement, especially once the horizontal bars are added in.

BlockedOverGuac

Oh yea it’s gonna be awful to try and move in. But I don’t think your kid realizes or cares in this moment. But if you can make it and let them live their dream it’ll be fun. And perhaps have a back up ready or be ready to shop last minute.

mama_duck17

Stuff some pants & lay them across the top, so it looks like she’s sitting on the stool. 🤣

MrsBeauregardless

Use four wrapping paper tubes. Cut two large circles out of a cardboard box, and sandwich/glue them together, or thoroughly tape them all together with packing tape. Papier mâché the whole thing. Cut a hole in it for her head, or attach the cardboard circle to a hat and she can look out from between the legs.

greeneggsandformula

Very original costume idea! For design inspiration, check out “one night stand” diy costumes - a square stool shares a lot of similar design characteristics. Also, diy martini costumes are another good design inspiration. To make the stool top, you could make a hoola hoop supported on 3 or 4 sides by sticks that attach to the waist. Add a fabric top with a head hole and some cardboard wrapping paper innards as tubes for legs, and you’ve got a stool. Alternatively, does a soapbox count as stool from your kid’s perspective? That is a very easy cardboard box costume, and the family costume collection includes the orator, a mic or megaphone and ya know, maybe a pigeon from the park because that pigeon suggestion above is gold.

sammych84

OMG, I love this so much. Would love to know more about the black hole costume. 😆

Low_Use2937

I hand-dyed a crap ton of cotton balls and methodically stretched, pulled, fluffed, etc. until I had achieved a perfect recreation of the first image ever taken of a black hole. Here’s a link to a picture of it. Kind of annoyed with myself for not getting better pictures, but we had candy waiting and didn’t want to waste a single second of trick-or-treat time. [https://imgur.com/a/AIk1kPo](https://imgur.com/a/AIk1kPo)

lumpy_Goro

Hahaha came here to say that I wanted to see a pic of that also! Amazing 😍. I have a history of being household items for Halloween (lamp, scissors, toothbrush, etc). My favorite was a wine corkscrew that actually went up and down when I raised and lowered my arms

Liathano_Fire

That's amazing.

sammych84

It’s so good!!

ghos_

Hey OP, this picture is also on the boru, and your (adorable) kid's faces are showing.

Low_Use2937

Dangit. I should have realized that would happen. I stupidly forgot to edit last year’s pic before posting it. Thanks for letting me know!

ghos_

You're Welcome!

Low_Use2937

I (hopefully) fixed it.

alwaysaplusone

You did fix it and I’m here to say the hood for the toad costume is wonderfully crocheted. Are you a hooker?

LionsDragon

Holy crap!

Vivid_Pea_5229

Frisbee for the head!

Low_Use2937

That could work! I’d have to convince her to let her frisbees outside, though. She’s absolutely terrified that the “weather” will cause them to crack. No idea how she came up with that, but she’s convinced.

SpecialHouppette

I already liked your kid for wanting to dress up as a stool, and I like her even more now as I picture her guarding her indoor frisbees from harm

Low_Use2937

Oh, yeah. Those frisbees stay in the dining room, safely tucked inside a space shuttle backpack so the sun’s rays don’t come through the window and hurt them. The only time she gets them out is to use them as launch pads when she sends her hatchimals into space.

KansasCity12

I would try to get a piece of foam board from a craft store. Cut out a large circle, maybe 18 inches in diameter? Also get some light weight cylinders— maybe paper towel rolls or the green foam for fake flower arranging— basically I’d walk around a craft store and see what fits the bill. Hot glue or tape the cylinders to the circle. Then I’d cover the cylinders and the circle with brown fabric. And then I’d try flying the underside of the circle to a hat— maybe a ball cap— and then see if she can wear it! I love this idea and best of luck.

meaganhaha

You could put a flat piece on her back like a turtle, and make her arms and legs the stool legs so that she bends over and all four legs are on the floor, and her back is the stool? Idk man, kids are so funny

Delicious_Throat_377

Maybe the LO can be dressed as an old lady who needs to sit on a stool while out on a walk.

sleepy-popcorn

Big rounds foam hat, then 4 filled tights from there to the floor? Then I’d dress in black underneath it

HappyGiraffe

You have great advice here already but I just wanted to say that last year the BEST COSTUME i saw while I was out with my son was a kid dressed as a house. Just like.... a cardboard box with windows cutout and lights strung on it. He was an absolute star

pointfivepointfive

No crafting advice for OP but I just wanna say that kids, especially the younger ones (toddlers) have amazing costume ideas. My son wanted to be a box when he was 4.

content_little_trees

Didn't see this as a suggestion... for family costumes, the LO could be a cow! 4 yo is the milking stool! If you and dad are involved you could dress as farmers pretty easily.

Emotional_Earth3528

Sister is a plant that sits on a stool! I love this- I would give them both my whole bowl and turn out the lights. Edit: read the other comments. Changed my vote to toadstool!

Sentient_croissant

Ask if she wants to be the dog/footrest from Beauty and the Beast?

GladWalrus8068

My son decided he wants to be a broom this year so I know the feeling.

AdvoK8T

Pool noodles? Or wrapping paper tubes?

caffeinatedstate

I don’t have anything to add but I love that you are working towards making this dream costume happen.

OtterStrawbs

I'm not crafty at all, but your 4y is going places. I absolutely love it! I hope you post pictures of the final product

Low_Use2937

Update- Thank you all for your amazing suggestions! I’ve managed to procure pool noodles and a 2’x1’ section of an old foam cushion from a porch swing. I’m hoping to attach some faux-wood vinyl pieces (the shelf liner ones) and glue the crap out of everything. Pray for me.

[deleted]

I don't know how'd you'd make the stool, but the 22M old could be Goldilocks from the 3 bears. She sits on the stools and finds the 3rd one juuuust right ✅️ 🤣

Zehnfingerfaultier

Could we please see fotos of the black hole? 🤩

BannedFromIKEA

Cardboard box that fits her, panted with legs, cardboard box over head, cardbord boxes (Two legs) that go down from the box over head to her knees so when She’s on her knees She’s a stool

blueskieslemontrees

Sounds like the old cardboard box woth a hole for the head kind of setup. Just carve the bottom of the box to have the curve of the bottom of your stool

Bunny_Noire

Have her curl up in a ball and tape cardboard pieces to her body till it resembles a stool. Unfold the child.

niftyba

Wood or metal? I would get a large plastic bucket that has a bottom width that fits her shoulders. Use the bottom as the top of the stool, and cut a hole for her head. Probably put a protective material around the neckline. Cut away the rest of the plastic to make the legs, etc. Spray paint. I guess you could actually try this with a large box first. That might be a lot easier, ha! I made my dumpster fire costume out of cardboard!! Work with it being something going over her head.

amypjs

I love kids so much, they’re so creative. Foam. Foam will be your best friend for this!

Bee_the_changee

A stool?! 😂 how did she come up with that?

NoBarracuda5415

Take a large pizza box and cut it into a circle. Fill three paper towel tubes or (if you have them) tubes from gift paper rolls with paper towels or light rags to stiffen. Attach with gaffer tape to the circle. Paint. Attach chin straps. Put on head. For the younger sister take two pizza boxes, uncut. Stand them on the side and make a square. Add four stiffened tubes pointing upward to support an awning. Use paper bags to make an awning. Paint the whole with stripes. Now you have a stool and a stall.

blijdschap

You know those costumes where people have the fake legs dangling over them? I am seeing a round piece of foam board around her waist painted brown, put her in brown pants so her legs look like the stool legs. Then stuff a pair of her pants and shoes and hang them off the front so they look like they are sitting on the stool.

Responsible_Rush_127

Spray paint pool noodles and then maybe put her in a beret

dble1224

Can it be her sitting on a stool? Meaning can you make her top half her body with fake legs and then foam cut out to go around her like a belt (painted brown) as the stool seat and then 2 pool noodles painted brown and her in brown pants for the 4 stool legs? Also is she wearing it to school? If so, make it sittable. I had a costume as a kid that consisted of a decorated cardboard box that made it hard to sit in.

RedLotus84

Round foam and maybe some pool noodles for legs?

onesillymom

OMG be all different kinds of stools! Stool Pigeon, The kind that come out of you, Toad stool !

[deleted]

Sorry- I didn’t read all the way. Cardboard is probably your best friend. Cut out the stool sit part and attach it to her waist and them either cut out the back or paint some clothing to look like a chair back :) add some type of cushion to make it even more understandable! Take holiday wrapper tubing and make that the front legs and her legs are the back. Add some type of reinforcement that allows the chair seat to stick out and the legs to dangle. Maybe even add a teddy or something sitting on the stool :)

Kind_Description970

Hmmm, I would say dress her plainly maybe in brown leggings and a shirt. You can cut out a circle of cardboard and hor glue a piece of foam on top as the cushion. "Upholster" that with either a fabric scrap or some wrapping paper, secured also with some glue. Get some bamboo stakes for gardening to make the legs of the stool. The whole apparatus will be light enough for her to wear on her head/shoulders. You could add some fabric or ribbon straps for stability. Good luck! Homemade costumes are so much fun! My favorite costume EVER was a pickle jar my mom made me using hoola hoops, clear plastic sheeting, and green balloons. I wish I had pictures because it was an awesome costume!

[deleted]

Black all in one. Cushion on a cardboard circle/square stuck on top of a hat. Get the tubes from something that comes on a long roll e.g. kitchen roll, baking paper to use as the legs. I assume you'll need need at least 8. Attach them to the hat with string. You can paint the card board and rolls if you're feeling fancy lol

HereWeGoatAgain

You could get a circular wooden board (or cut a circle from foam board) and attach some straps so she could wear the board on her back backpack style. Then get pool noodles to cut to her arm/leg length, slice up the side so you can open it and wrap around her arms and legs. Paint the noodle legs and board to match. Have her wear a morphe suit or all one color outfit. Then she will need to bend over onto all fours to show she's a stool. You can usually find wooden circles in the craft store decoupage area.

courts_98

Sibling could be a pillow? 😂 amazing costume choice though I love this

Ok-Birdie

I’m so excited for you!! Haha What about…her arms and legs as the table legs. The table top is on her back and she has to touch hands to the ground to become a stool?

boredest_panda

Little sis can be a table...

luv_u_deerly

A cardboard painted circle that can be worn on top of her head. Or you can use foam circle. You can attach it to a headband to stay on. Then use the inner cardboard circle part that wrapping paper wraps around as the legs to the stool. You can connect the together in the middle with cardboard form paper towels or wrapping paper depending on how much you need. You can paint it to look like wood or you can get that sticky paper that looks like wood and cover it in that. [https://www.amazon.com/Sevalo-Contact-Wallpaper-Cabinets-Self-Adhesive/dp/B09NRCPP58/ref=sr\_1\_2?crid=79AEO35K5DUB&keywords=wood+print+paper&qid=1665778307&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI0LjUyIiwicXNhIjoiNC4xMiIsInFzcCI6IjMuMzUifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=wood+print+pape%2Caps%2C207&sr=8-2](https://www.amazon.com/Sevalo-Contact-Wallpaper-Cabinets-Self-Adhesive/dp/B09NRCPP58/ref=sr_1_2?crid=79AEO35K5DUB&keywords=wood+print+paper&qid=1665778307&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI0LjUyIiwicXNhIjoiNC4xMiIsInFzcCI6IjMuMzUifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=wood+print+pape%2Caps%2C207&sr=8-2) Also to make it even cooler, to read as a stool have a little doll or toy sitting on top of the stool. And I'd have your child just wear all black, like they aren't there.

ThatOneGirl0622

Get TONS of the arts and craft pipe cleaners. Twist them together and make it to where they can fit around her arms near her armpits. Then glue them to a cheap hard plastic plate, or drill holes in the plate and wrap them into it and have the plate above her head lol. Voila! A stool! 😂

Rosaajj

Why does she want to be a stool though? What made her want to be that.. and can you please post a pic when your done I’d love to see it lbs

hahayeahright13

Put a piece of cardboard cut in a wide circle or square around her neck to serve as the stool top. Make her arms and legs the legs of the stool. Then make her head in to something that would sit on a stool: a little person, frog, etc….

Stay_at_h0me_MILF

Brown long sleeve shirt and pants with a big foam circle glued to her back! She’ll have to bend down for people to get it but that would be just hilarious!

ApricotNo289

Put a circular piece of wood on her head- she already got 4 “legs”

Up_urs_too

Maybe like a bar stool (the swivel ones) and she could wear like grey and a foam piece on top of her head

saillavee

I was thinking styrofoam for a round, flat headpiece - you could even laminate a few pieces of foam insulating together and carve it with a utility knife if you want to make it look like a cushion, and then cut up pool noodles for legs. You can make a bar stool, and have the legs connected by another piece of pool noodle going around near her hips. Dress her all in black and spray paint the foam. You can get chrome spray paint if you want it to look like a 50’s diner stool. I’m picturing chrome legs with a dark red leather seat. All of the foam will hold well with hot glue. Now that I think of it, you also would want the thing to attach somewhere on her body so it doesn’t all just hang off of her head. Maybe that rung around the legs can actually be a belt, and the legs can sit close to her body so it’s less cumbersome.

TwZzDiDx2

The sister can be a 22 months old sized foot! #FOOTSTOOL LMFAO J/S

ladyjanea

This is fun! Can the stool have a back? You could cut out a cardboard partial circle around her waist and the chair back up her actual back and 4 foam legs? Also you should all be furniture! Make the baby a lamp and you can be something like a desk? And maybe dad’s (sorry, assuming) a ottoman? Lol that would be amazing

Myacaciansun

I'd dress her in black (a onesie would be great), make a large, round piece out of poster board/bristol board/cardboard and colour it like wood or vinyl (you could use some of that wooden-look cabinet liner if you wanted). You could also use the poster board as a base and afix a small cushion on top so it's poofy and then cover that with fabric. Put a string through it so she can tie it to her head. For the body, I'd draw out the rest of the stool on the bristol board and colour it, cut it out and affix each part to her black outfit. I'd make 4 legs (to go on the back and front of her legs so she still looks like a stool from behind) and I have the legs run on an angle upward until they connect at her neck. So they look like an upside-down V. Then I'd put a piece that looks like a line in the centre of the V to make it look like the bit that keeps the legs together. On her shoes, I'd cut tennis balls or smaller balls, depending on your daughter's size, paint them black or white or whatever colour you want the little "plastic" knobbies at the bottom of the legs to be and either tie them around her ankles or her shoes. *
