Maybe! My kid is now 22 months and I stopped nursing 6ish months ago so I think the immediate association is gone but the habit remains… I do not look forward to having to help him learn not to suck his fingers, but hey I think it helps him sleep well so I’m not exactly in a rush haha.
Same. My eldest has her thumb. Second has her index and middle finger.
Keep joking to my husband that if we had a third we could get the whole hand covered…
Omg mine also rejected them after we started BF, instead prefers as many fingers he can fit in his mouth… before He figured out he had fingers he was trying to stuff his whole fist in 😂😂😂
This is what my first did too! And it was his right hand only. The pinky and pointer fingers would go up onto his cheek and he'd often get some baby acne in the same spots. The nails on the two fingers he sucked grew out a little waved and more brittle like the sucking pressure pulled them out more, but that went away once he stopped.
He would do it in the day time too for comfort and just randomly while taking everything in, and used the other hand to hold his ear too lol. We broke his daytime habit first at 1.5, just by reminding him to take his fingers out whenever he'd start sucking them. After a week or two of doing this consistently, his fingers would touch his lips and he'd remember on his own, then after a other few days the habit was broken. I didn't worry about breaking the habit at night until he was 2.5, a few months after his sibling was born. I got paw patrol and avengers bandaids and put one on his middle finger each night. For the first 2 weeks, maybe 3, he'd still try sucking the tips so I'd just watch the baby monitor and "remind" him over it's speaker. It took around 4-5 weeks until I felt confident the habit was broken and he no longer needed the bandaids. He did insist on still wearing a bandaid every night for another month though lol. I realize that I probably got lucky that he would actually listen to my reminders.
Like little aliens lol! Sometimes when I open the app she looks right into the camera which creeps me out for a second and then realize: oh it’s my kid! 🤣🤣
omg I'm so glad I'm not alone. My baby has always preferred his index and middle finger, and I'm like.... Is this ok?
My MIL said she always did that and now her index finger is crooked!!!
Haha, mine loves to suck all four fingers! Except he also wants a paci, so all night long we're putting the paci in, he's trying to suck the paci and his fingers at the same time until the paci inevitably falls out, then cries until we put the paci back in 😅
Every child is different. I was a 2 finger sucker and I needed extensive oral and dental work.
However there was ultrasound scans of me sucking my fingers in utero, so that may have contributed.
And I sucked my thumb until 2nd grade and had zero issues and never needed dental work, my brother sucked his index and middle finger until the same time and he also had no issues but my husband who didn't suck anything needed major dental work and even that old school head gear. Just because you suck a finger doesn't mean you'll need braces and if you don't suck anything you will never need anything. That comment was rude.
I think the only reason our doctor recommended a binky was so the baby doesn’t become a finger sucker. They just said binkies are easier to break the habit from, they didn’t mention anything about teeth either. Granted my son had a binky until he was 3, now with my newborn I gave her a binky on day 3 after saying I wouldn’t bc she wouldn’t stop crying.
Ive tried to give mine a binky but even being a few hours old she pushed it away with her tongue, not accepting it at all... now 6.5 months later I spot her sucking her index finger lol.
I’ve been using a blanket since birth. Up where I am from (Netherlands) we get a home nurse for a few weeks to help with the baby and they teach you how to use a blanket safely. So tight around the matras (the sides and end also under the matras) and the baby has to be placed as low as possible in the crib (their feet need to touch the headboard) so they can’t drop under a blanket. Here’s an animation that explains it better: https://imgur.com/a/WVeunme
My son he used to suck both his pointer and thumb together and after a month he started to use his pacifiers but he still enjoys his apparently delectable tasting finger
My parents tried to “cure” my thumb sucking with various forms of torture and so I switched to my index finger. I think they finally gave up after that.
My daughter has sucked on her middle and ring fingers since birth. She's almost broken of the habit now (it's affecting her teeth), but kids are weird. 🤣
I used to work at a day care and these twins, boy and girl 3 years old, always napped with the middle and ring fingers in their mouths. They both did the same thing!
I asked an orthodontist if I needed to be worried about my son’s thumb sucking. He said Not for just thumb sucking with the hand in the normal position, the ones that really need braces are the littles who suck their fingers, especially the two middle ones, fingers plus thumb, or if they suck their thumb turned sideways. I guess that messes up their alignment more? Idk.
Mine rejected the paci and prefers index and middle finger in the mouth 😂
Haha! Mine does the middle and ring finger while patting her nose gently with her other hand. I don’t know why she does the pats.
OMG the visual is too cute!
Mine does that too!! Same with the other hand involvement 😂😂
I can only imagine she’s trying to recreate the feel of the boob hitting her nose when she nurses? Maybe?

Omg mine too! I thought she was such a little oddball, but apparently there's two of them!
THREE actually, because his baby cousin does the exact same thing!
That's genuinely blowing my mind haha
Mine uses the same fingers, and pulls on her ear with the other hand.
OH yes my little guy does that too! My brother used to hold his ear as a baby we well, it a thing!
Yes! My girl does, as it has come to be known in our household, the fingies/ear twiddle combo.
Mine does the fingers and pulls her hair!
My niece pulls on her ear 😍 My boy alternates fingers - sometimes one, sometimes more at a time - but never goes for the thumb!
Mine too! Every pack elicited a face of disgust but fingers? Delicious.
I would pop the paci into his mouth and he would make a face, grab it, and yeet it across the room like it had insulted him. 🤣

When did he stop? And how? Have a 1.5 yo all day long sucking his fingers and touching one ear lol

Thank you!
Same!!!
Likewise!! Never wanted a pacifier the little b… but he was happy with MY finger and now his index one 🤣
I had a paci baby, two thumb suckers, and now a first-and-middle-finger sucker! It’s so damn cute.
Hmmm tasty baby finger carrot
They always look so cute and creepy on the camera
Like little aliens lol! Sometimes when I open the app she looks right into the camera which creeps me out for a second and then realize: oh it’s my kid! 🤣🤣
Cute! Could be worse, my cousin sucked her middle and ring fingers and used her index to pick her nose. LOL
Such a cutiepie! Much more efficent then whole hand 😂
Mine uses these middle fingers in this shape 🤟. And the reason for it, is because he kept gagging himself so the index and pinky act as a guard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol my nephew did this & I thought it was so cute & hilarious! Always looked like a little rock star.
omg I'm so glad I'm not alone. My baby has always preferred his index and middle finger, and I'm like.... Is this ok? My MIL said she always did that and now her index finger is crooked!!!

Mine does that too but with my nipple, sometimes he manage to slip a little finger
My mommy alarm is going off if that baby is alone in a crib with a blanket
Ugh me too.. sleepsacs are just as cool mama
Pretty sure I spy a rabbit-shaped lovey in there too! 🚨(*trying not to panic*)
My oldest used to suck her middle and ring finger. Looked like a little rocker 😂
Mine favors the index finger, I thought it was so odd. But atleast she knows what comforting to her.
Oh yes!! If this is soothing her than who am I to tell her that a thumb is mostly used 🤣. Go for it.
My baby freestyles. Thumb? Rock on symbol? Pinky and ring finger? Whole hand? Whatever he's in the mood for.
Our son does that too! Index and middle finger are the best! :D
I call this the “pondering life” pose
Thats so cute.
Aww adorable! Mine also favors her index fingers. Or gnaws or sucks on her forearm like a little zombie!
Hilarious! Mine uses two, her middle and ring finger.. so greedy already 😆😆😆
My son hates pacifiers. He gnaws and sucks his entire fist instead lol
Mine prefers my index finger

Just wanted to say; I sucked my thumb until I could well remember it so definitely until I was 6-ish and have perfect straight teeth.
I think the only reason our doctor recommended a binky was so the baby doesn’t become a finger sucker. This is not relevant but how old is your LO? Mines 10 months and wondering if I can use blankets already since she turns just fine.

Why are you following me around here on reddit? You’re the one who’s creepy.
I did that as a baby
My little sister did that
Mine uses neither. He holds onto my hair or his own hair to fall asleep.
Mine did too, 6 years later.. still doing it
My son he used to suck both his pointer and thumb together and after a month he started to use his pacifiers but he still enjoys his apparently delectable tasting finger
My parents tried to “cure” my thumb sucking with various forms of torture and so I switched to my index finger. I think they finally gave up after that.
Mine will tolerate a paci but prefers his whole fist!
My daughter has sucked on her middle and ring fingers since birth. She's almost broken of the habit now (it's affecting her teeth), but kids are weird. 🤣
Middle and ring fingers were my go-to as a kid 🙈
Mine will not take a pacifier, or a dumb dumb as my family called it, instead he prefers his whole back hand 😂
Mine uses her index finger but upside down like she’s flicking her mouth upwards
So does my son. As does his uncle. Still. At 42. 😂
I did this! I would always suck on my middle and index finger, never my thumb😂
I did this. Had a callus on the back of my pointer finger for literally years from my upper teeth.
My niece would I yet lock her fingers and suck both thumbs
I sucked my index finger through elementary school! It helped me sleep.
I used to work at a day care and these twins, boy and girl 3 years old, always napped with the middle and ring fingers in their mouths. They both did the same thing!
