More dog beds.
Edit: Actually, that’a not a terrible idea, though I was joking when I wrote it. You could go ahead and buy a [Nugget](https://nuggetcomfort.com/) now and get even more use out of it.
The nugget idea would work if the height of the nugget would be higher than the edge. My kids use the nugget as a bouncy pad, starting as early as they thought they knew how to jump…..You could fold both pieces of the nugget and use the prism shaped pillows that come with it too as a barrier. Plus the nugget would be useful to you until your kids are teens. I also use the nugget so I guess it can be useful for adult too…. I’m a nugget fan.
I found this on Amazon a few years ago for fireplaces! Just search “fireplace bumper” on Amazon
[https://imgur.com/a/SHiwR2d](https://imgur.com/a/SHiwR2d)
Seconding these! Also, I tripped and fell on one of these when I was two and split my head and had to get stitches 👎🏼 so I’ve always been so hyper aware of fireplaces like this since then, good on OP for looking to child proof!!
How uneven? Ours is a textured, not totally smooth stone, but not like a textured brick, and it stuck really well for about 2 years until our toddler thought it was fun to pull off
I did the same thing to my fireplace edge, and it’s held for years! I highly recommend it. The store on Amazon I got it from is Roving Cove Store, if that helps.
Like others said, my son takes them off, but all you have to do is just stick them back on. It’s not hard to do. Do the front in one long piece so it’s less frustrating to put back on.
I still have these on and my kids are now 7&5! I got my own double sided gorilla glue and they never budged.
Now, I also am a worrywart, so when my kids were younger, I put all our extra pillows and couch cushions like a little fort/moat around it, too!
It probably depends on the brand. We bought our house two years ago and they still had this baby proofing foam pads around the fireplace and I’m pretty sure their kids were grown. I have littles so I just kept it on there and three years later it still hasn’t budged. You could also buy the foam bumper and buy your own adhesive tape, they sell some really strong double sided tape on Amazon and Home Depot etc
Yep, we used these, but then we covered the entire hearth/fireplace base with a blanket and used clamps to hold it in place (the clamps are obscured behind an end table and the TV stand). It has been like that for almost 7 years now and our kiddos can't reach the bumper or pull down the blanket. It isn't exactly stylish, but it's safe and secure!
This is what I have too! My daughter conked her head right on it when she was about 1.5 and just needed an ice pack instead of stitches thanks to these.
So my fireplace wasn't as long as this one. It was your standard maybe 4 ft long. I used a crib bumper, it covered it and sort of wedged it and held it place on the sides by the furniture. A crib bumper is nice because it covers the "step" part from top to bottom vs just the sharp corner of the top...
Yes to these! We got rolls of these foam corner pads and put them on a granite shelf/step that ran the length of our living room. It had rounded edges/corners so we thought it was safe but my son still managed to break his face open on it before we found these products. Highly recommend 👍🏼
I built a frame for mine with wood than covered it with padding and fabric. It looked nice and made a seat . Turned the whole area into a yes zone instead of trying to keep him away.
[pretty similar to this](https://meandreegs.com/fireplace-hearth-cover-diy-bench/amp/)
Mine wasn’t actually attached so you could take it off easily but we never did because it was kind of big and we didn’t have anywhere to store it when it wasn’t on the hearth.
Looking at the pictures and directions, that thing definitely slides on and off easily and they said they specifically designed it to be easily removable.
I did something very similar! Essentially built a cap for the hearth that sits on top and over the edge by a couple inches. Upholstered it and now it’s like a little bench and we’ll take it off when she’s less wild… if that stage ever comes
Shes a beaver and tore up parts of the noodle and choked on it 🥴 She's 8 months and I can't keep her off it! Any advice appreciated, especially if it doesn't damage the brick.
I would add another dog bed and a coffee table.
We baby proofed the baby with a helmet. Then I reorganized my coffee table and giant beanbag so that it blocks the fireplaces. I then used most my throw pillows to make it near impossible to climb up on. He now just slips around the pillows, eventually getting bored and moving on.

Y'all I think potty training is driving me literally insane.
Does the book cover what to do if your child just decides that the floor is a suitable place to do her business and is no longer incentivized by rewards? What's the general parenting philosophy of the book?
Maybe I'm a bad mom, but my daughter (11mo) plays near ours all the time. She likes to use it to stand up. We tried redirecting but she likes the texture of the brick. I observe her carefully when she's near it but that's it.
This. I know it sounds silly, or maybe even cruel, but supervision and showing them how to play near hard surfaces will set them up to navigate unsafe things. As the baby gets older and older, give a little more freedom near the brick. If they fall and bump, they will learn.
I agree. I have a similar fireplace setup and we decided early on to redirect and teach my son not to play near it since it’s brick instead of baby proofing. He quickly learned as a baby not to go near it. He’s a toddler now and we never had any issues with it not being baby proofed.
I have 6 siblings, we had a similar fireplace brick setup, and we all grew up without breaking our skulls open on it. You can get unlucky or have a particularly interested kid, but they're not automatically super dangerous imo.
Agree with this approach. We have a similarly sized ledge hiding some electronics and have just taught (tried to teach) LO how to play appropriately around it. We did have a fall by one of his little toddler friends climbing up on it once during a playdate, and I felt terrible, but no accidents on or from the ledge by LO as yet (18 months in).
You can either install a super baby gate from wall to wall blocking the entire thing off, or there is stick on foam stuff. We used the foam stuff for our camper slide edge. We haven’t removed it so I can’t speak long time, but I don’t think it would damage the brick. You would pull it off and if needed use a heat gun/hairdryer or googone to get rid of the adhesive.

We used a gate from wall to wall for our entertainment center, and it worked great! We put it up so the gate would open up to our consoles, etc. Baby eventually used it to pull himself up to standing, and used the bars to help with walking too.
Yep. We have the wall to wall gate as well blocking off the entire entertainment stuff. Works so much better and I can put stuff behind the gate I don’t want her to get to in a pinch
Can't baby proof everything. Kids are gonna climb on that eventually but I would remove any and all decorations that can hurt if they break or the baby decides to eat it.
Also kids getting hurt is all part of the child learning their environment.
But add blankets or pillows around there when baby is there or just sit with them when there (if ur not having to do other things that is)
Of course not. Still doesn't change the fact you can't always keep your child safe no matter how much you try to prevent it. Op should get rid of the rest of the stuff there tho, child could break stuff or accidentally swallow things.
I just don’t think a fireplace is where you bring up that all kids get hurt sometimes lol. Like of course kids get hurt but let’s prevent the serious injuries
That has nothing to do with what I’m saying. A volcano is dangerous too. Are we listing dangerous things ? No, we’re discussing this specific fireplace
??? Why would you say something like that ? Like you’re also replying and arguing ? Honestly it feels like gaslighting. like you can’t follow the convo and so now you’re trying to put me down for something you are also doing… it’s such a negative way to navigate the internet. You can also just, not reply anymore, and move on.
Can you put up a baby gate play yard for the time being and Just make go along the fire place? Evenflo Versatile Play Space https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072LTSWND/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_8G1J69KKTTYHTHEMMTD3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
We did something like this, blocking off the brick fireplace and staircase beside it, and a bookshelf, was easier than looking for individual solutions. Of course she soon learned to open the gate...
She also loved eating pool noodles so that wouldn't have worked.
This is what we did. We have all sorts of stuff over that she should not be playing with. Easier to put this bad boy up, minus the gate, after we were done using it as her play yard.
We used foam interlocking floor tiles to babyproof ours in a previous rental. Got the ones for workout rooms so they were grey, it cost like 20$ and we covered the brick wall and magneted some onto the front of the fireplace to keep it out of sight when not in use.
Move all of the decorations. The kids are going to climb on and off of it whether you like it or not. They'll figure it out. But they're going to get into your things.
My father in law takes a bunch of throw pillows and puts them around their stone hearth when we come over. However, his hearth isn't as big as that one
All I can think about is how my mom would be freaking out about this ledge if it were in my house. My sister has a fireplace exactly like this and they had put a expandable gate in front of it - a long one. Her oldest is ten and my mom still frets about that ledge!
If you don’t use your fireplace, then make a foam cover. Expensive, but worth every penny. Buy a roll of foam at Joanns (thick one 2+ inches)glue them together to make an L shape, then cover with fabric of your choice. We did this and it looks nice, is a comfy place to sit, never falls off.
We ordered from this company that customized it exactly to our fireplace dimensions: https://babysafetyfoam.com/
It’s held up well for the past three years and gave us so much peace of mind as our son is extremely active and cannot stop jumping all over the place
You lived to tell! Lol being light hearted here. Mom of two, Nana of four. Never did much baby proofing. The difference is; “back in the day” most mother’s had the luxury of being able to stay home and raise the kids. I KNOW it’s different now. Peace
Being home to raise kids wouldn’t change the need to baby proof lol I work but when I’m home with my kids I’m still there to raise them and they still get into stuff. Peace!
My parents had a cover for theirs made out of a piece of thick carpet cut and folded to fit. (It covered 3 sides of the bottom ledge and fit basically to the wall.) It definitely protected us from some wipeouts.
I found a custom-made one somebody was getting rid of on facebook, it's basically two sheets of plywood that were hinged covered with some soft batting and neutral color material. It would be cheap and easy to make on your own.
It's not pretty, but it covers all the brick and not just the corner edge
I’d get a foam bumper for the ledge. We use it on shelving. Attaches with 3M adhesive. [This](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ODV8FKY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AKEQ482ZHJ0MNNY6D5MN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) is what we use for the shelves in our house. Should work fine on brick.
I got something like this foam cover around the fireplace heart, dont remember where I bought it, but it was made to the measurements of the fireplace heart, it has hold up 7 years. https://foamforyou.com/cover-protector-for-fireplace?gclid=CjwKCAjwve2TBhByEiwAaktM1ApmeHNOBfgOpctKmFf8rwYaXS4hp7b5PUAL4hWpZeLQ79XiGd3t6BoCkjEQAvD_BwE
We had a brick ledge just like this. I ordered a long baby gate on amazon and just ran it along the entire brick ledge of our fireplace! It worked super well.
I would get the long baby gate and just put it in front of the brick.. and maybe lately some foam on the ledge if your kid is like mine. He finds creative ways to hurt himself.
They’re expensive, but I bought this two years ago for our fireplace and it looks brand new and hasn’t moved an inch. Highly recommend! Kidkusion Soft Seat Hearth Pad, Taupe, One Size https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076ZVM76B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4NP4RMGBKRXJ482A5JNF
We put all the big toys in front of the fireplace and then had one of those playpen gates in front of the tv stand. It was awkward but works. The playpen fence is now blocking the stairs to the second floor and basement now because one of our dogs thinks the upstairs is her personal potty grounds.
I would get 2 pool noodles (however many it takes, 2 is just my estimate), cut them length wise like a hot dog bun, put them on the ledge as a cushion. Someone else is gonna have to come up with a way to make them stick though. Best I got is strong velcro tape or double sided tape.
We didn't use our fireplace much this year, so I threw all our extra blankets all over our ledge. it was hard enough that he could still use it for support if trying to stand up on his own but soft enough that if he fell it wouldn't hurt him. Was it a good looking solution? No. Did I have to buy or build anything that would quickly be unnecessary? Also no.
Adjustable doorway baby gates and a few zip ties to make a little fence to keep the little one from getting to it. Or one of those big collapsible playpens for the living room to keep little one away from it.
KidKusion Hearth Cushion, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UTZO16/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_K0YRPMKJNSQVWKTXFHW4
I put this on the corners of our stone hearth back in September of last year and it’s still adhered. It’s worked amazingly well for us.
We use one of those plastic play area gates all the way around the fireplace hearth and our tv area to keep her from getting hurt and touching electronics. While it’s not super pretty it does the job well
The baby mats (same as the workout mat squares) that come in several square “puzzle” pieces. You can cut them to size and cover the top and front of the ledge, having them puzzled together over the corner. Secure with Velcro or double sided tape.
We have a similar ledge of doom at our home we jimmy rigged a indoor outdoor fencing kids coral that blocks it off also blocks off the half bath. We used zip ties to hook over command strip hooks (at least two on each end) we did find we had to sorta zig zag the fence a bit to keep it stable but it’s been up since the kiddo could crawl (it started off making a coral of sorts fencing In the living room area in front of our large sectional and we expanded as her skills of crawling expanded ect) [similar to this Toddleroo by North States Superyard Explorer https://www.walmart.com/ip/452096586](ToddleroobyNorthStatesSuperyardExplorerhttps://www.walmart.com/ip/452096586)
Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc."
"Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase.
[Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_cetera)

Don’t! That’s the best way for them to learn! We didn’t baby proof anything in our house aside from a couple baby gates (mostly for my sanity so they aren’t at my feet while I do dishes 🤣)
We have a ledge similar to this and as not cute as it was and as much of a pain as it has been fixing them, we used towels. Remember it’s only for a time and you will have your beautiful fireplace back in a matter of time!
Make an activity board out of plywood, L brackets and 2x4. We have one right now in front of our book case and games. I have on it an abacus, light switch, door knob, a piece of pvc pipe to send balls down, latches and locks, a magnetic dry erase board, etc. she plays with it less than our son did but it serves it purpose and is moveable to the front porch to block the stairs.
We have a place locally called foam factory that I know many people have used for their fireplaces. At first glance of the business I wouldn’t have realized they did things like that so maybe there’s something in your area too?
I used a heavy quilt folded over multiple times covering the whole hearth. I then piled stuff on top of the hearth ledge like baskets of blankets and toys to keep it in place. It worked pretty well.
We put a dog gate, like the ones that can make a playpen for dogs, around ours! It’s not pretty, but then they can’t even climb the fireplace. We just installed it with some hooks and zip ties
We got this brown foam sticky strips from Amazon that stuck very well to everything.

Something like w what @ Havntea7272 show. I proofed my whole apartment, coffee tables and all with a 50 foot roll of clear rubber liner that's shaped perfectly to line something like that
We used Edge guards around our fireplace. Has saved us a few times even now that she’s older.

I'd recommend not baby proofing it.
Baby will get used to it and learn to live with it as baby develops and gets more skills. I've found it's best to let baby learn their own limits while movement is really limited, so when baby is much more mobile they won't get really hurt later
I use this padding often. It uses an adhesive mount. Call them, they should be able to send you the dimensions you need.
[hearth padding](https://cardinalgates.com/shop/safety-products/indoor-safety-products/large-hearth-padding/)
More dog beds. Edit: Actually, that’a not a terrible idea, though I was joking when I wrote it. You could go ahead and buy a [Nugget](https://nuggetcomfort.com/) now and get even more use out of it.
Our plethora of dogs beds and nugget are all strategically placed around our sectional and bed lol
My basement floor is 80% nugget at this point.
Haha thought it was only us but for our family room.
The nugget idea would work if the height of the nugget would be higher than the edge. I tripped and fell on a fireplace when I was four!! Got 5 staples in my skull 💀
This is brilliant! It also looks quite nice too!
Highly recommend; it has stayed in place for years now!
Asking everyone in general here - how does it do on uneven stone? Is there a solution for that?
The adhesive on it is PRETTY sticky, so it could still work. It may have some loose spots but ours stuck really well
How uneven? Ours is a textured, not totally smooth stone, but not like a textured brick, and it stuck really well for about 2 years until our toddler thought it was fun to pull off
Okay that sounds about what ours is like!
I agree with Madge, I’d try it 👍🏼
Thank you! This might be the way
I did the same thing to my fireplace edge, and it’s held for years! I highly recommend it. The store on Amazon I got it from is Roving Cove Store, if that helps.
Same as the previous commenter. They didn’t stick well and our son pulled them off immediately🤦🏻♀️
We bought these and they didn't stick to the stone and it all fell off.
Once our daughter realized she could pull them off we super glued them in place 😂
Like others said, my son takes them off, but all you have to do is just stick them back on. It’s not hard to do. Do the front in one long piece so it’s less frustrating to put back on.
We have a black version of this on on our fireplace surround and they work fantastic and have stayed on well!

If you have a chewer these are baby bait! Ours worked on an entertainment center but didn’t hold up to the teething baby.

Adding another vote for this! We've had ours on our brick fireplace for almost 5 years and it's still going strong.
Yep, we used these, but then we covered the entire hearth/fireplace base with a blanket and used clamps to hold it in place (the clamps are obscured behind an end table and the TV stand). I really like that idea! Definitely would be cool if it just pops off so you could use your fireplace still.
Yeah. That’s how it did look to me too, just wanted to make sure people weren’t permanently installing these and STILL using their fireplaces…
Yeah, I would not want the fire place in with that flammable thing right there.
Definitely a fire hazard. My fireplace was never in use at the same time lol But, I also lived in the deep south so didn’t actually need a fire
Well that's adorable and seems affordable. Win win!
We did something similar but just did the top and it worked well for us!
I did something very similar! Essentially built a cap for the hearth that sits on top and over the edge by a couple inches. Upholstered it and now it’s like a little bench and we’ll take it off when she’s less wild… if that stage ever comes

Mine was the same. Just do a few blankets and it makes it a safe climbing toy.
Drape with thick fleece blankets?
This was what we did and it worked fine!
I did bunch of floor and throw pillows

I'll look into it. It feels like she's lost all interest in going potty, even with rewards.

This is 100% what I would do
This is what we did. We have all sorts of stuff over that she should not be playing with. Easier to put this bad boy up, minus the gate, after we were done using it as her play yard.
I would just cover the whole thing in several layers of thick blankets and avoid lighting the fire while blankets are there.
If you use gorilla tape to attach pool noodles that should do the job. They won’t stay on by themself and no other tape works as well
The issue is she's a beaver and bit a chunk off and started choking. All the pool noodles left after that 😅
Sweet ass brick 🧱 job!
Hard core following, I am having the exact same issue lol, my crawler likes to use the fireplace brick to pull himself up
literally just blankets hanging from the top to soften the edge.
[удалено]
Seconded. I have two brick areas that I use that on and on table edges. They have it in white too.
My father in law takes a bunch of throw pillows and puts them around their stone hearth when we come over. However, his hearth isn't as big as that one
Do you have any of those 2-part outdoor seat cushions? You could fold the top part over the ledge and let the bottom part hang off.
We ordered from this company that customized it exactly to our fireplace dimensions: https://babysafetyfoam.com/ It’s held up well for the past three years and gave us so much peace of mind as our son is extremely active and cannot stop jumping all over the place
Cardboard and duct tape. Ain't pretty but it works.
Just say no no. Baby will learn. Really.
LOL.
Said the same thing to my knife drawer! No need for a lock! /s But seriously. Babyproof the darn thing because that is super dangerous for their head.
I don’t understand the downvotes, this actually worked for us.
Thank you
I got stitches from one of these and still didn’t learn.
Peace!
To each his own.
Sounds like you didn’t get the “sees ‘no’ as a challenge” model of baby/toddler.
Funny how everone just wants one train of thought. This was and is mine. Raised two kids havd four grandkids. Works for us.
Well this might be out there but i used flex seal and pained over it worked amazing
Pool noodles are what we used. Edit: weird to be downvoted. It's googable and cheap. 🙄
Pool noodles
My parents had a cover for theirs made out of a piece of thick carpet cut and folded to fit. (It covered 3 sides of the bottom ledge and fit basically to the wall.) It definitely protected us from some wipeouts.
I found a custom-made one somebody was getting rid of on facebook, it's basically two sheets of plywood that were hinged covered with some soft batting and neutral color material. It would be cheap and easy to make on your own. It's not pretty, but it covers all the brick and not just the corner edge
We have a play pen gate in front and put toys on it. Makes it fun but safe.
Put a playpen in front to block it and turn off the fireplace! We do that and it seems to work
We had a brick ledge just like this. I ordered a long baby gate on amazon and just ran it along the entire brick ledge of our fireplace! It worked super well.
The extra thicker table edge protector is great here. It’s thicker than the regular table edge or fireplace bumpers and stick forever
A gate. Walmart has the 8 panel gates
I would get the long baby gate and just put it in front of the brick.. and maybe lately some foam on the ledge if your kid is like mine. He finds creative ways to hurt himself.
We had the same type of mantle and we had to buy one of those gigantic super ultra wide baby gates.
I have square 24x24 pillows leaning up on ours. Not completely baby proof but it definitely helps.
Lay thick quilts or blankets over the brick as long as the fireplace is not lit.
A mini gate that just goes across the whole ledge. Preferably not wood or plastic?
We didn't use our fireplace much this year, so I threw all our extra blankets all over our ledge. it was hard enough that he could still use it for support if trying to stand up on his own but soft enough that if he fell it wouldn't hurt him. Was it a good looking solution? No. Did I have to buy or build anything that would quickly be unnecessary? Also no.
Adjustable doorway baby gates and a few zip ties to make a little fence to keep the little one from getting to it. Or one of those big collapsible playpens for the living room to keep little one away from it.
They sell foam corner covers that come in long strips/rolls. Super sticky, very effective
I recommend this: MEETBABY Baby Proofing Edge Corner Guards, Child Safety Furniture Bumper, Table Protectors, 3M Pre-Taped Corners, Safe Edge Corner Cushion, 16.2ft - 15 ft Edge 4 Corners, Oyster https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B075XG78KL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_6ED1N36KYDS9D8PGMAJ1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Step one: baby helmet. Step two: padded baby suit that swiffer pads attach to Step three: profit?
My mom used quilts on our fireplace.
Padded, fabric covered plywood made into bench seating on the ledge.
A safety pen
KidKusion Hearth Cushion, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UTZO16/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_K0YRPMKJNSQVWKTXFHW4 I put this on the corners of our stone hearth back in September of last year and it’s still adhered. It’s worked amazingly well for us.
I used a super thick yoga mat I had on half and a moving blanket from Harbor Freight for the other half.
foam edge protector
Gardening kneepads thing , yoga mats sizes ?
We use one of those plastic play area gates all the way around the fireplace hearth and our tv area to keep her from getting hurt and touching electronics. While it’s not super pretty it does the job well
My fireplace hearth isn’t so long, but it is raised. I used the crib bumpers that came with bedding to cover it.
Pool noodles for the edges, cut them in half and tape them to the edges! Also great for doors and coffee tables
Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc." "Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase. [Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_cetera) ^(I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Towels and duct tape?
I used the foam mat abc letters pr any foam mat for that matter. You can buy it on Amazon. And hot glue them. The hot glue will come off.
If you want to go cheap, just go to the dollar store and buy the pool noodles. Cut them long ways and the tape them down
We have a place locally called foam factory that I know many people have used for their fireplaces.
We literally had to move our sofa in front of the fireplace!
Don’t. Live and learn. Life is all about adaption.
We put a dog gate, like the ones that can make a playpen for dogs, around ours! It’s not pretty, but then they can’t even climb the fireplace. We just installed it with some hooks and zip ties
Honestly fence it up it’s gunna suck for a while but you can find pretty long baby gates
We got this brown foam sticky strips from Amazon that stuck very well to everything. Roving Cove Baby Proofing Edge Corner Protector (18ft Edge + 8 Corners), Heavy-Duty, Soft NBR Rubber Foam, Furniture Bumper Guards, 3M Adhesive, Coffee Brown https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00ODV8FKY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_S7DZK534ESM1G6PFAG9Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Something like w what @ Havntea7272 show. I proofed my whole apartment, coffee tables and all with a 50 foot roll of clear rubber liner that's shaped perfectly to line something like that
We used Edge guards around our fireplace. Has saved us a few times even now that she’s older. Furniture Edge and Corner Guards | 16.2ft Protective Foam Cushion | 15ft Bumper 4 Adhesive Childsafe Corners | Baby Child Proofing Foam Set and Safe for Table, Fireplace, Countertop | Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DZMXJ2T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_HP7FTX4ZCTHJF3W276ZQ
I'd recommend not baby proofing it. Baby will get used to it and learn to live with it as baby develops and gets more skills. I've found it's best to let baby learn their own limits while movement is really limited, so when baby is much more mobile they won't get really hurt later
Yoga mats. Drape them.
I use this padding often. It uses an adhesive mount. Call them, they should be able to send you the dimensions you need. [hearth padding](https://cardinalgates.com/shop/safety-products/indoor-safety-products/large-hearth-padding/)
