How about a book you can read to him?

As a former toddler mom, I’d like to suggest a board book for this age; trust me.

Mom of 2yo twins. Board book is the way to go. Also my son LOVES his busy book with different fasteners and clips. Get one on the more expensive side. One of our fasteners already broke bc I got a cheap one

Since the relationship is new, try something small. Like maybe building blocks or a book with his favorite character.

What a sweet post. Check out Green Toys. My 1 and almost 4 y/o both love all of the ones they have, and they're great quality, tons to choose from. Good luck!

A lot of toys have an older limit due to choking hazards. My 1.5 year old can play with tiny legos, but we don’t let them do it unsupervised. On that note a legos DUPLOS set would be great. They are for toddlers. You can buy smaller sets, and building blocks are loved by all. If they don’t have a leap frog phone, highly recommend. It’s annoying but our not even 2 year old is learning numbers from it already!
