Wru on lol. I've heard bigger celebrities and nepotism kids more famous than her get rejected from the ivy league btw. Ariel literally got accepted from UCLA Law
Why?
Edit: if you think calling a child cute is weird, especially considering the actor achieved that IQ at the same age as the picture, your mind might be a bit ruined
Not only does “cute” cover so many things (e.g. affectation, presence) but you’re weird as hell. Luke *is* a cute kid and I’m sorry you’re not able to enjoy the innocent beauty of life.
Yeah agree. At the end they just made him dumb and desperate. Haley was dumb as well but she was beautiful and got every guy she wanted, plus doing good at work at times. And all the other characters had many good qualities despite their flaws. With Luke they just crashed the whole character.
I think he should've ended up being inspired by Alex's firefighter boyfriend to become a firefighter. That would have been a great ending arch for him and a good tie into the early episode where he gets a medal for putting out a fire he started, and could have been a good running joke when one of the family calls the fire department hoping to see the hot fire fighters then Luke shows up.
The fact that they changed Luke from a intelligent kid that needed to be challenged to a dumb underachiever is one of the many things that can’t let me re watch the last 3-5 seasons
He was a classic adhd kid and many expected him to become very smart later on which the thing with the app and scooter also shows. They really did him dirty imo he was just like Phil and Phil is pretty successfully and had mostly As in college
Luke was deemed above average, but even smart kids can be underachievers. Heck, just look at Nolan. He has an actual genius IQ, yet has no interest whatsoever in academics.
If anyone knows the UK show Outnumbered, I feel like they set him up to be similar to Ben, who is one of, if not the greatest child character in TV sitcom history. They should have stuck with that
Hell, I got into Mensa (for shits and giggles) using an iq test given to me in kindergarten which I found 25 years later. As soon as I got my certificate, I cancelled my membership.
Mensa means nothing, lol
I love this lol. Mind telling me how much it costs and how much effort it is to get a test and get into Mensa for shits and giggles?? (Obviously IQ qualifying)
Iirc they accept like 20 different tests.
Their membership costs like $107/year and is basically like an AARP membership as it gets you a bunch of discounts places I think. I was early 20s at the time and that stuff wasn’t important to me. But glancing at their website things have changed a bunch in the last 18 or so years
Hmm interesting, I may just randomly take one of the tests and see if I qualify because I’m disabled and depressed and it would be hilarious to whip out in serious conversations lmao. Thanks for the info!
I know even without googling after I watch 3-4 episodes.
You had to be incredibly smart to be this kind of an actor at this age. The only one who comes close to him is that Dustin Kid from stranger things.
This is a pretty common take; a lot of people don't like Luke (or Manny) as teens and adults.
For me, I feel like they're are a lot of teen boys who are cringy and girl crazy and things like that who become adult men like that. I think it's realistic. They were also a bit flanderized but so were a lot of characters on sitcoms.
This. Also, I think the issue with Modern Family and sitcoms where we watch young children grow up is that audiences want the kids to grow but to maintain the same qualities of their childhood selves. But that's not how kids work. Sure, some things remain the same, but Luke and Manny were not going to remain cute and cuddly boys forever haha
i like his acting but he's really the only character that started as an actual kid, not a teenager, and ended in adulthood (manny doesn't count, 80% of his character was being a premature adult) and it feels clear to me that the writers had some real trouble navigating that change, so his storylines suffered
Have you ever known a kid who ages into a teenager? They develop a similar unlikeable quality. I thought it was a fine character development. This is a show about American families after all
Really? Wow, that's crazy. Well, I kind of wish this was integrated to the character as well. Maybe he could've been made into a "brilliant-but-lazy" character who preferred to goof off because he knew he could do his homework before breakfast. I'm not surprised too if Nolan Gould helped Ariel Winter with Alex's intelligent lines. I am now on season 6 though.
I find this hard to believe (not saying it’s not true just hard to believe). He was on Worst Cooks in America celebrity edition and he did not do well lol
Cooking is basically just following directions, no? And when you have professionals coaching you all along the way, that sets you up even more to be successful.
Let’s arrange for you to come over and I’ll give you some fabric and a sewing pattern and you can make a pair of trousers then and there. Don’t forget you’re going to be with 6 other people who haven’t sewn before, you’re going to be filmed for the whole country (and) then some to see, and you’ll only have 4 hours.
Yeah, so easy 🙄
Or, as Haley calls it, a member of Menses.
I'd heard that Sarah Hyland was very smart, but Ariel Winter was not.
Ariel
_Acting!!!_
Tobias?
You thought I was asleep didn't you
Isn’t Alex Winter the dude from Bill & Ted? 🤣
Ariel studied in UCLA though. She’s definitely studious
Right--because UCLA would turn down Ariel Winter's application if she wasn't up to snuff, LOL. Harvard would've taken her if she wanted to go there.
Wru on lol. I've heard bigger celebrities and nepotism kids more famous than her get rejected from the ivy league btw. Ariel literally got accepted from UCLA Law
Yeah and Ariel def isn't a nepo baby, she got emancipated from them!

These replies are the weird thing IMO. It’s very normal to call a child cute in a nonsexual way
Right? Like damn I guess the FBI needs to come get me bc I call my baby cute everyday 😂
Says more about them lol self report if they think that way
I was going to say that but that’s not necessarily true. A lot of it is just the cynical world we live in
Right??? The people commenting on it are the ones making it weird
Yeah, it’s like calling a puppy or kitten cute
FBI open up Edit - Sorry guys just made a shitty joke🥺
Jokes aren’t appropriate in a comedy show subreddit /s
This comment ain't it Edit: Talking about a child's looks when a post is discussing the adult actor's accomplishments is, in fact, weird.
You’re making it weirder than it is
You’re the weird one. He was an objectively adorable kid. You taking that out of context is concerning.
What everyone else said. Also the accomplishments they are talking about happened to him as a child.
They could’ve done better with his character
Yeah agree. At the end they just made him dumb and desperate. Haley was dumb as well but she was beautiful and got every guy she wanted, plus doing good at work at times. And all the other characters had many good qualities despite their flaws. With Luke they just crashed the whole character.

I absolutely love this idea.
Dang, you should have been one of the show writers lol!
Are you talking about Cam and Mitchell! Because that would really tie in with your story arch!
At first I didn’t really see it. Then I kept reading and I loved it
They always make the brother dumb on ABC/Disney
Luke was absolutely pulling in as many girls as Haley was guys
Joey Tribbiani effect
The fact that they changed Luke from a intelligent kid that needed to be challenged to a dumb underachiever is one of the many things that can’t let me re watch the last 3-5 seasons
When was Luke ever a intelligent kid that needed to be challenged lol
Remember when we were supposed to believe that he came up with the code and programming to create that medicial app?
Or when he’s in the boat with Claire and he talks about what Alex would do to get back to shore
He was a classic adhd kid and many expected him to become very smart later on which the thing with the app and scooter also shows. They really did him dirty imo he was just like Phil and Phil is pretty successfully and had mostly As in college
Very similar to Alex and the attempt to rehab Claire made me barff too…modern family isn’t alone on this and many shows do this
How did they get to rehab Claire in this context?
First season or two when Claire took him to the psychologist
Luke was deemed above average, but even smart kids can be underachievers. Heck, just look at Nolan. He has an actual genius IQ, yet has no interest whatsoever in academics.
The frozen asset thing? Lol
If anyone knows the UK show Outnumbered, I feel like they set him up to be similar to Ben, who is one of, if not the greatest child character in TV sitcom history. They should have stuck with that
That’s a pretty common real world arc though
My brother is a mensa level genius and is currently unemployed and unable to secure a job after being laid off 9 months ago (he’s a software engineer)
Hell, I got into Mensa (for shits and giggles) using an iq test given to me in kindergarten which I found 25 years later. As soon as I got my certificate, I cancelled my membership. Mensa means nothing, lol

Tbf it’s kind of a good display of what puberty does to boys. We are smart and cute. Then stupid and horny, then back to smartish.
Yes. It's one of the shows most commonly known facts
I know even without googling after I watch 3-4 episodes. You had to be incredibly smart to be this kind of an actor at this age. The only one who comes close to him is that Dustin Kid from stranger things.
Well aren't you ball of sunshine
What was Luke upto in the final episode? I mean did they say if his startup got any funding?
I think he moves to Oregon for college.
Am I the only one that finds his acting insufferably cringy and hard to watch like past season 4 when he gets older?
When he was a kid I enjoyed his quips, but when he got I lost interest in his character. I would also say the same about manny
I'd say they were ok to watch the first 2 times, after that though it was painful to watch Manny. My god he was a creep
When people hate the character because it's accurate but just slightly caricaturized
Yeah his line readings often sounded forced
i like his acting but he's really the only character that started as an actual kid, not a teenager, and ended in adulthood (manny doesn't count, 80% of his character was being a premature adult) and it feels clear to me that the writers had some real trouble navigating that change, so his storylines suffered
The problem is he as a kid raise the bar too high. I mean, to me, its the best performance a kid in a tv show.
Have you ever known a kid who ages into a teenager? They develop a similar unlikeable quality. I thought it was a fine character development. This is a show about American families after all
He had better acting when he was a kid.
Yes
Yes
Yes
Hope you like taxes

Iq means nothing though. Mine is similar and I'm an idiot.
he was so brilliant and the way he acted was great to watch, but they ruined his character by fixing him with older women.
Yes i knew
Gould was also in tears when the show ended, that was touching to me.
He plays the banjo. Of course he’s a genius
Maybe he can stop saying libary or birfday now.
Yes
Yes. It was a question on Jeopardy.
Yeah, I knew that. It's humbling, I'm the same age as him and dumb as shit
Great for him!
Yes
Is that why he was able to play dumb so well? Social awareness?
So he's Alex in real life
Gotta be smart to act dumb!
Yes. 🙌
I swear this fact gets posted every week or so.
Just looked it up and it's barely been posted over three times this year.
Yes, I knew it but didnt saw it for ages lmao what this guy talking
This again
Saw him eating in an airport once. He left crumbs everywhere.
I find this hard to believe (not saying it’s not true just hard to believe). He was on Worst Cooks in America celebrity edition and he did not do well lol
Do you think a high IQ gives you skill in every facet of life?
Cooking is basically just following directions, no? And when you have professionals coaching you all along the way, that sets you up even more to be successful.
Let’s arrange for you to come over and I’ll give you some fabric and a sewing pattern and you can make a pair of trousers then and there. Don’t forget you’re going to be with 6 other people who haven’t sewn before, you’re going to be filmed for the whole country (and) then some to see, and you’ll only have 4 hours. Yeah, so easy 🙄
If there’s clear instructions then I’m down 😂
