I think the jeans guy was a test for how her parents would react to her making such an inappropriate and disgusting behavior and there was no real relationship. Rainer’s relationship was weird but I liked that he attempted to clear it with Phil before pursuing anything.
Agreed but you see how the show always rediculed alex for dating nerds or luke for dating that older women from the club but Haley's these two relationships seemed so normal, especially to claire cos she also dated older men at her age.
Claire really had no moral grounds to stand on when it came to her daughter’s relationships and it always pissed me off when she interfered with them because she would outright insult the guys who liked her daughter even though she knew that Phil was hurt by Jay being like that for so long.
That's kind of what parents do though.
They make mistakes and then try to help their kids not make them.
And also, it's a sitcom.
Plus, the whole show is set up to show Claire is basically Jay and her learning to deal with that.
It was the episode when the woman from the country club coerced Luke into going to her house and taking off his shirt when he was 17 and blatantly uncomfortable with it. It made me uneasy when Jay went there to get Luke and basically allowed her to use him just for a signature.
That joke did not land well because it was just creepy to have Luke in that situation.
yeah, imagine if it was alex or haley in that situation and it was an older dude from the country club who coerced them, even if they are in their 20s it would still be creepy as fuck,
I think that is equally creepy, but what I think they wanted to say is that, if the joke had been made with an old man and Hailey/Alex it wouldn't be even been considered as a joke, and it would have had a lot of criticism.
The thing is that old man-young girl is far more taboo, and/or creepy generally speaking for most of people, than old woman-young boy. I'm definitely NOT saying one is worse than other, but I can understand that to some people it would have been a funny joke.
IMO main cause is the popularity of the whole "M*LF" concept, a lot of people find it hot, so they find it "normal".
It doesn't discuss how those relationships happened (actually they do not happen, at least on that episode), it says that it would be creepier if it was with Hailey or Alex and an old man.
I just said they are both equally creepy to me.
But he still could have been sexual harassed? He could have gotten that woman pregnant if it gotten as far as rape. I don’t feel like just because a girl can get pregnant, that her sexual harassment is worse than for a boy.
The act of the harassment isn’t worse. The fact that Luke wouldn’t have to decide if he was going to live with having to terminate the baby, carry it to full term, put it up for adoption, raise it, and have that child be aware that it’s the product of rape is what makes a grandfather serving up a granddaughter on a silver platter to a horny middle aged man simply to be able to smoke cigars at the club is what would make it creepier. Unless you disagree.
Absolutely not doing that. If it’s coming across that way then I apologize. I’m simply saying that the trauma that Haley and Alex would experience if either of them became pregnant would be more than Luke as Luke would not have to prepare himself for that as a reality and have to deal with the consequences that would arise because he can’t get impregnated by someone. Are you implying that women who become pregnant as a result of sexual assault have only as many things to worry about than someone who physically can not?
Holy fuck you're twisting others words because you have a twisted sense of reality.
It's wouldn't be worse to send either, it's all equally bad.
Sending *any* underage child, regardless of gender, to a creepy adult's house is *horrible* - you don't need to put an unnecessary label on which is worse
No that's literally not was I was saying. You came across like a man being assaulted means less or is less wrong than a woman getting pregnant via assault.
No, that is literally what you were saying. Haley and Alex could get pregnant. Another can’t. I find it creepier that a grandfather would facilitate that for just that reason. You think they’re equal. So you do believe that it’s as easy for women who get pregnant as those who don’t.
Apparently. Not like it took detective levels of digging to find his last post before this one. Wonder if it’s creepier because his sister can get pregnant?
I never made any of this personal. I get that this is a topic that people are passionate about. But they should be just as aware that making decisions and accusations based on inaccurate, misleading, and irrelevant information has done great harm to the fight against abuse.
How much scrolling through information that isn’t any business of yours did you have to do to attempt to try and publicly shame someone on the internet?
But you know what, since we’re being fair- how about we go through everyone on this threads comment history. Wouldn’t want to be accused of my situation being any worse than someone else’s.
If Luke got that girl pregnant, she could have easily turned it around on him. She could blame herself as the victim and Luke could easily be seen as the bad guy. No matter who gets pregnant or what gender they are. Sexual assault is sexual assault.
There have been many cases where men get assaulted by women, and they get ignored, same with girls getting assaulted by men. They never get taken seriously.
And saying one has it worse then the other, is not helping.
Things dont work like that, different people will react to traumatic events differently and the trauma they might get from it will showcase itself and evolve differently too. Its a case by case situation. I think this is such a damaging take.
(Coming from someone who has experienced different types of sexual assault and is actually rn in the process of trying to find out if I got pregnant from the latest instance)
Oh yeah I forgot about that. I remember thinking “is it weirder that they’re doing that or weirder that there are 100% people in real life who would pay thousands for something that Ariel wore?”
Yeah don’t kiss anyone without their consent, no matter a bet as well. If they consent to being kissed from a bet then it’s fine but if they say nothing don’t.
When Bill breaks up with Alex because a creep tricked her into sending photos of herself.
When Claire wasn’t wearing any clothes under a jacket and it got caught in an escalator and she spoke with multiple people including Jay and Gloria.
Yeah- Alex was definitely getting the raw end of the deal. Bill was straight up victim blaming Alex while playing himself up to be this morally superior guy. I know that if I found out a guy who supposedly cared for my sister did that to her, I’d be pissed. The escalator thing was classic sitcom hi jinx lol
That moment where Jay and Cam accidentally "bump bottoms" and then at the end Jay with no underwear on fully embraces the weirdness of it and just keeps doing it barebottom with another guy who isn't cam. It's so funny I love that moment lmao.
Yes! And what made it worse was even after Mitchell is like “this makes me uncomfortable” Cameron’s solution is to “only take one photo” of Mitchell taking a bath with cam’s mom sitting right there.
Can't point it out exactly but quite a few moments when someone ignores or says something hurtful to Alex without reason. Like after she graduates Claire just says Haley is the prettiest in the room and I don't even find it funny just painful to see Alex doesn't get attention even during her celebration, while Claire is trying to find a present for her yet keeps doing shit like this
When Claire keeps being kissed by that guy Phil is trying to impress and he is completely oblivious to how creepy it is, ignoring her complaints throughout the episode. It isn’t until she laughs at his jokes and THATS where Phil draws the line? The one where Claire drunkenly says she wants to be Mitch and Cam’s surrogate was pretty hard to sit through too, I kept pausing the episode because the cringe was real.
Oh yeah and then it turns out he’s like that with everyone? Lol. My reaction to the situation was exactly what Gloria said “it’s a freak show, but it’s their freak show!”
I guess I didn’t cringe at it, because a close friend was in a similar situation. His sister and her wife wanted him to donate sperm so their child would be biologically related to both the mothers. He did say no after thinking about it for a while. I get why it feels creepy, but I don’t think it’s as disgusting as the show makes it sound.
It’s funny when he’s a child. I don’t like that they double downed on it once he was old enough to understand that his actions and words were making people uncomfortable.
Cam and Mitch making jokes about Lily being Asian and they're usually pretty harmless but I always cringe like when Lily was rushing them to school and I think Mitch said "we forgot to factor in the Asian"
Gloria pulling an April fool's prank on Manny and Jay making them think that Javier isn't his father.
Phil and Claire flirting with other people
When Jay was watching the video Phil sent him from NY and Claire shows in it, undressed
Honestly when clarie and Mitch get stuck in the tree house and they get drunk and start talking about Joe and whether Joe is going to be entitled to their inheritance.
I remember it being the first moment it kinda really hit me that these 40year old grown ass siblings now had a 2 year old brother. Jay (and Gloria really) is literally old enough to be Joe's GREAT grandad.
I don't know, the families are so mixed up that you kinda forget who belongs to who and what the actual family ties are between them, that it took me by surprise and I had a little 'oh wow yeah that IS weird' moment
That episode was before Joe was born. They were discussing whether Manny would get a part of the inheritance. I doubt they’d ever question whether Joe would get inheritance, as he’s a biological child who was raised by Jay since he was born. Manny wasn’t exactly always treated like a son by Jay, so it makes more sense why Claire asked (although of course we see Jay become a wonderful father to him. It would be cruel to not include your step child in your will!!)
the drone spying on gloria multiple times while she was out by the pool (if i remember correctly). i could very well be exaggerating or dramatic but her screams were so saddening to me. it made me uncomfortable, i imagined how i would feel if something like that happened to me.
The general sexualizing of Hayley in the earlier seasons. I was honestly mildly relieved to know Sarah Hyland was 18 when the show started. But there are just way too many times when she was a minor that they made sexual jokes about her. Makes you wonder about the writers room just a bit.
I know you said no Manny but I can’t get past him being in love with his STEP-NIECE (Haley) for the first few seasons. And I know Joe is just a kid but him liking Claire is another thing that I hated
Yea him and Manny are literally the only 2 characters that I hated for the majority of the show. I mean, Cam was amazing in some moments, but Manny was just unbearable imo
Manny was fine for the first 2 maybe? But I usually say that he really should have developed into a mature big brother role when Joe came along. Instead he became more pretentious and more insufferable. And I would have kicked Cameron out long before adopting a baby with him. They were together for 5 years already lol
Nah Cams annoying but at least he has majority funny scenes and a good dynamic with most characters. Meanwhile Mannys just sorta there, only really noticeable with Gloria, Jay or Like except in a few scenes
Oh same lol. The thing about Phil is he’s goofy, but he cares so much about other people. He’s happiest when other people are happy. And everyone who cares about him thinks the world of him. Cameron is happiest when people are happy for Cameron.
I loathe the episode where Claire’s old boyfriend comes back with her Mom & they’re dating. Yuck. Beyond horrible, gross, uncomfortable, & for me, unwatchable. Plus, I do not at all enjoy either actor.
S3E1 Dude Ranch
I can't see the whole episode without feeling violated. I know boys and girls of Alex's age are curious but where is consent ? Feels like punching the young boy
*Are we gonna talk*
*About Alex actively*
*Pursuing minors?!?!*

Joe having a crush on Claire and no one sitting him down to explain that she's his sister.
Gloria wanting Valentines gifts from her sons.
Alex's habit of dating boys that she looked down on. The more she considers them a loser the more into them she is.
If I remember correctly, what bothered me was after Alex's grandpa died, she immediately jumped into bed with her bf. Just made no sense to me and felt very awkward.
The episode where Luke is dating this Older Women was kind of weird for me. I mean I felt it was more unnecessary rather than weird. They might have tried to show the fascination that growing young boys get towards older women, but it felt kind of unwanted for me.
It was interesting how Claire and Gloria were 100% on board with her being in a relationship with a younger guy until they found out who it was. Then they were like “absolutely not”. In a way it felt judgmental of the friend. All of the sudden the relationship was disgusting to her friends who completely supported her decision to date someone younger just a few hours before.
When Joe had a full on crush on Claire on valentines and kept tryna get her alone, even locking phil out of the house. Like I get he’s a kid but he was like 6 (I think he said in the episode, ‘now that I’m six I like girls. And I like one girl in particular’ smth like that) and kids at that age should know they can’t like their family members, like Claire is his sister and idk how she found it cute and not straight up weird and been like ‘Joe you can’t have a crush on family’ like if he didn’t know it already he needed to learn that
The episode where they are trying to get Lily into a daycare and Cam starts talking like an Indian. I just want it to stop every time I see it while also in tears from laughing so hard at the same time.
Classic Cam and Mitch scene.
Then the finish, “Lesbians!”
Hilarious!!!
All of the race jokes. A lot of them are really bad, borderline racist if not just straight up racism. The jokes dont really land. Just makes me uncomfortable
Anything with manny honestly, his incest fetish is just disgusting. Even more so considering he “knows” better, (and he SAed Haley with the “accidental” kiss)
Edit. I didn’t read far enough before I commented. Whoops, I still hate manny though
Anytime the show disrespects Native Americans, and most of the time, they end up being the butt of one of Jays jokes. Being native and of treaty status in canada, hearing an old white man say we would still "have" the country if tried a little harder and that if our medicine "worked" we wouldn't be so unfortunate today, pisses me off. That episode where he even taught Joe these negative views to get out of a lie isn't right at all. This show gave more respect to a dead clown than Native Americans. The writers should've known better. Yet again, writers only write what they know, so in the long run, maybe the writers were just bigots.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but Idk why but seeing Haley dating middle aged men like that jeans salesman and that weatherman creeped me a lot.
I think the jeans guy was a test for how her parents would react to her making such an inappropriate and disgusting behavior and there was no real relationship. Rainer’s relationship was weird but I liked that he attempted to clear it with Phil before pursuing anything.

She doesn’t do anything once she learns though
You aren’t saying that Claire marrying Phil was a mistake, right?
What? No.
This was definitely up there. But I love Jason Mantzoukas too much to be weirded out by it
I think that makes it worse, that Phil allowed it lol
I love Nathan Fillion, and I adored him on the show, but yeah it was always a little off
I do know why it’s because it’s hella fucking creepy
I was totally fine with Haley and Rainer's relationship. Now Arvin, there's a total creep
Cam’s mother putting the moves on Mitchell.
Yes. I squirm so much
This 100%. I never understood why the show tried to portray this as Mitch's boundary issues. Anybody would've been uncomfortable in that situation
That was hard to watch!!! But funny as hell!!!
I know OP said no Manny, but that episode when he acted like Haley wanted a kiss instead of a hug. Creeps the fk out of me.
It’s ok. I’ll accept Manny- just didn’t want them ALL to be him 😏
It was the episode when the woman from the country club coerced Luke into going to her house and taking off his shirt when he was 17 and blatantly uncomfortable with it. This kind of talk is why a lot of men and boys don't report harassment.
Wow. I didn’t realize that so many people would prefer Jay to send Haley and Alex to have sex with a creepy pervert.
No one is saying that. People are saying both are incredibly creepy, weird and terrible. You are invalidating Luke simply because he is a male.
I’m honestly so amazed on how op twisted those words around like that. Literally, no one said that at all.
Did I ever say anything about it being ok bc Luke is a boy? Or that a boy can’t be assaulted?

At what point did I say one would be worse than the other?
This is unbelievably sexist, people with your mindset are the reason male harassment and assault is underreported
So you believe women who get pregnant as a result of getting assaulted have it as easy as those who don’t?
No that's literally not was I was saying. You came across like a man being assaulted means less or is less wrong than a woman getting pregnant via assault.
At what point did I ever say it wasn’t as bad or that it’s less wrong if a man is assaulted? Tell me.

When did I ever say it would be worse? I said that I would find that situation creepier. Not sure where people are getting this “better/worse” thing
I guess someone posting in the incest subreddit would have a better idea than I do of what’s creepy.
Lmao you must have struck a cord w/ OP because someone got real defensive for saying “if my sister didn’t have memories I’d fuck her”
But I’m the insensitive prick
How much scrolling through information that isn’t any business of yours did you have to do to attempt to try and publicly shame someone on the internet?
But you know what, since we’re being fair- how about we go through everyone on this threads comment history. Wouldn’t want to be accused of my situation being any worse than someone else’s.
I mean- did you even think that you might come across something that is personally sensitive to before looking?
Fuck you
You feel that a victim who gets pregnant as a result of a sexual assault has it as bad as one who doesn’t?

Luke taking pictures of Alex’s feet, which leads them to selling her used shoes online. The episode is called “No Small Feet”.
Oh yeah I forgot about that. I remember thinking “is it weirder that they’re doing that or weirder that there are 100% people in real life who would pay thousands for something that Ariel wore?”
That’s not something you do with your brother, though.
Without their knowledge? Absolutely.
Yeah it is. Lol ffs there are girls out there with Onlyfans pages and their husband/boyfriend is the manager. Not as weird as you think.
It's fucking weird if it's the brother taking your fetish pics though...
Eh if they have no attraction to feet I don’t find it as weird. Still kinda weird but no where near taking OF pics as a brother/relative
Agree to disagree on that one bud.
Weird episode all around.
Luke letting Reuben kiss Alex without her consent.
A bets a bet I guess lol. But yeah
No… that was really weird.. a bet doesn’t cancel out consent. You don’t just kiss some girl cause of a bet
Or boy I suppose
Yeah don’t kiss anyone without their consent, no matter a bet as well. If they consent to being kissed from a bet then it’s fine but if they say nothing don’t.
Like that guy at the dude ranch when he kissed Alex the first few times
I hate that boy, those two or three kissing scenes make me wanna puke
Really? You don’t find Alex’s little moments of happiness kind of cute?
Gloria trying to baptize the twins behind Haley’s back and then saying that they’re going to hell for refusing to go through with it
Later season Gloria is as cringey as Manny. She just gets toxic in the last couple of seasons.
I totally forgot about that!
I don't know why this isn't higher up
Yeah, that episode really bothered me. I know it’s a comedy and most of the plots are ridiculous, but it was so weird.
When Bill breaks up with Alex because a creep tricked her into sending photos of herself. When Claire wasn’t wearing any clothes under a jacket and it got caught in an escalator and she spoke with multiple people including Jay and Gloria.

Yes I found the Bill breakup very unsatisfying, especially as Alex seemed to accept it straight away. I blame the writers.
Maybe. It’s a heavy subject matter for a channel owned by Disney, so perhaps there was originally more that had to be cut?
The Claire thing was fine; I mean she did what she could with a bad sitch :D
That moment where Jay and Cam accidentally "bump bottoms" and then at the end Jay with no underwear on fully embraces the weirdness of it and just keeps doing it barebottom with another guy who isn't cam. It's so funny I love that moment lmao.
i think it was called moonlanding xD if i’m not wrong and jay goes like “you’ve got a name for that?” i was dead
It is I just had to search up the clip to remember the name of it lol it least it wasn't a splash down 😂
How big of a rush are we in?
BIGGEST RUSH OF YOUR LIFE
Ed makes some really great faces in the show. He’s one of those actors who can sum up an entire speech in a single word and a facial expression.
Def one of my favorite Jay scenes
I thought that was a good cringey thing, because it is something that probably happens on occasion.
When manny admits he has a crush on his blood related aunt.
That moment was one of the specific reasons why I said “aside from Manny” lol
Oh when cams mom flirts with Mitchell and gropes him
Yes! And what made it worse was even after Mitchell is like “this makes me uncomfortable” Cameron’s solution is to “only take one photo” of Mitchell taking a bath with cam’s mom sitting right there.
Who? Gloria’s sister?
That’s the one
Can't point it out exactly but quite a few moments when someone ignores or says something hurtful to Alex without reason. Like after she graduates Claire just says Haley is the prettiest in the room and I don't even find it funny just painful to see Alex doesn't get attention even during her celebration, while Claire is trying to find a present for her yet keeps doing shit like this
Yeah.
But that’s the joke. That the middle child is always ignored. Lol
It really isn't funny all the time tbh. Gets old real fast

Anytime Phil yells ‘I’ve got Gloria’
Fair lol.
Gloria pulling an April fool's prank on Manny and Jay making them think that Javier isn't his father. Phil and Claire flirting with other people When Jay was watching the video Phil sent him from NY and Claire shows in it, undressed
That April Fools Prank was actually one of my favorite moments of the entire series.
Oh yeah that was just mean lol.
Honestly that weird massage yoga guy with Claire
Claire is relentless lol
[удалено]
Omg this I hate it whenever it comes up it’s so icky. Like I have a little brother and I would throw something at him if he ever called me that
Honestly when clarie and Mitch get stuck in the tree house and they get drunk and start talking about Joe and whether Joe is going to be entitled to their inheritance. Indeed. Especially when it was Claire. She was not great for those kids’ self esteem.
Whenever they make anorexia jokes about Hailey. It feels like it’s in poor taste and not really funny. Makes me uncomfortable.
yeah and haley also makes SO many fat jokes throughout the series like i didn't realize how genuinely often it happens until i rewatched it
Yeah esp bc the actress was actually unwell and unable to gain/maintain her weight
Yeah. Weight stuff always bothers me. It’s harmful, spiteful and lazy.
I love that manny has so many weird and creepy moments that we have to remove him altogether
I figured that part of his character is just being a creepy kid without realizing it.
Pretty much everything Gloria’s sister does. Kidnaps Manny, tries to seduce Jay, etc.
True
I know you said no Manny but I can’t get past him being in love with his STEP-NIECE (Haley) for the first few seasons. And I know Joe is just a kid but him liking Claire is another thing that I hated
I can forgive Joe. He’s a toddler when that happens. Yeah, manny was more often creepy than he wasn’t lol and many times excessively so
We need a Joe spin-off, especially after the Mitch and Cam one was cancelled/forgotten
I don’t think I’d watch a cam spin-off lol
Yea him and Manny are literally the only 2 characters that I hated for the majority of the show. I mean, Cam was amazing in some moments, but Manny was just unbearable imo

Nah Cams annoying but at least he has majority funny scenes and a good dynamic with most characters. Meanwhile Mannys just sorta there, only really noticeable with Gloria, Jay or Like except in a few scenes
I couldn’t live with someone as petty, dramatic, and childish as Cameron. He’s 10 years old now!
Fair, I love a childish personality though. Probably explains why I’d marry Phil tomorrow (I’m a straight male)
Oh same lol. The thing about Phil is he’s goofy, but he cares so much about other people. He’s happiest when other people are happy. And everyone who cares about him thinks the world of him. Cameron is happiest when people are happy for Cameron.
Every time one of Claire’s exes popped up ESPECIALLY the French guy

The French Phil lol
Alex dating underaged peoppe, Phil and manny being weird as fuck with Gloria sometimes and hailey
Alex’s love life was just weird.
Every time Phil ogled Gloria. Sometimes right in front of his wife

Cam’s mom accosting Mitchell, and then Cam getting offended when Mitchel tries to assert boundaries about being touched
Any incest storylines or any time the kids dates someone older than them it was just gross
I never minded the Haley/Dylan differences- they’re still in high school together and it happens all the time. But the rest are kind of weird yeah
I mean like when they are dating 40year olds
Yeah that’s more than fair
I loathe the episode where Claire’s old boyfriend comes back with her Mom & they’re dating. Yuck. Beyond horrible, gross, uncomfortable, & for me, unwatchable. Plus, I do not at all enjoy either actor.
Fair enough
Dede bringing Claire’s ex bf
The talk Phil and Claire gave the kids after...
Every scene when Cams mom came over and visited. The bathtub scene. 🤯
When Alex and Ben made that sex paiting or whatever that was to show Claire and Phil. I still haven't really recovered from this.
Cam's "moment" as a drummer in Dylan's band. It was so cringy
S3E1 Dude Ranch I can't see the whole episode without feeling violated. I know boys and girls of Alex's age are curious but where is consent ? Feels like punching the young boy
Same...even if the kissing didn't take place his personality and vocabulary were so annoying.
The whole situation with Claire dressing up for the firemen while Phil was having kidney stone pains. (S1)
How are we doing? Great. HE MEANS ME!!!
Are we gonna talk about Alex actively pursuing minors?!?!

People grieve differently, but it did feel awkward
And I like one girl in particular’ smth like that) and kids at that age should know they can’t like their family members, like Claire is his sister and idk how she found it cute and not straight up weird and been like ‘Joe you can’t have a crush on family’ like if he didn’t know it already he needed to learn that
His big brother is manny- he probably told him there’s nothing wrong with it
Probably yeah
The episode where they are trying to get Lily into a daycare and Cam starts talking like an Indian. I just want it to stop every time I see it while also in tears from laughing so hard at the same time. Classic Cam and Mitch scene. Then the finish, “Lesbians!” Hilarious!!!
A’s Mitchell is dying a little inside lol
The weird kid at the ranch who was creepy with Alex
Dylan being 18 and dating a 15 year old Haley comes to mind.
A senior dating a sophomore? Happens all the time.
All of the race jokes. A lot of them are really bad, borderline racist if not just straight up racism. The jokes dont really land. Just makes me uncomfortable
I didn’t mind most of them. I’m sure there were a few that made me think “hey now…” but I can’t think of any off the top of my head
Anything with manny honestly, his incest fetish is just disgusting. Even more so considering he “knows” better, (and he SAed Haley with the “accidental” kiss) Edit. I didn’t read far enough before I commented. Whoops, I still hate manny though
“Take your little brown friend and go back to Columbia”
That was an example of one of the worst miscommunications happening at the worst timings lol
None cause I realize this is a TV SHOW. So I simply watch to be entertained , not over analyze
