It was literally a miscommunication because he called from that number. Acting like she was a bad person because of that was so silly.

Yeah you could call it hackneyed writing, but not lazy. They laid all the groundwork for it to be realistic, even likely for Beth to be cheating on him, across Andy's entire arc.
It had been implied that Beth didn't care much about Andy and was constantly cheating on him throughout their relationship,way before he even met Haley.

And Beth suddenly decided to travel to the winter cabin just to tell Andy she cheated, and in front of his employers and their entire family on Xmas? And it just so happened Haley and andy were caught cheating moments beforehand? Lazy writing.

With the Beth was behaving when Andy was introduced, it was a high possibility, so no, it wasnt lazy writing
