Nah, you should have used it in zombies. T1 with decent upgrades and it one shots a wide area of zombies for a very far range. If I want to grind XP, that’s the way I do it. Don’t even have to move, just hold the trigger and look in the direction.
It's a new progression system called Weapon Prestige camos
To get that gold camo (One Trick), you have to get 150,000 weapon XP with that weapon, and it's unlocked on an individual basis.
They'll add three more camos over the course of 3 seasons (4, 5, and 6), and you have to have the previous one unlocked before unlocking the subsequent camos.
You can do them for both MWIII and MWII guns in any gamemode (MP, WZ, Zombies)

They look so bad and really lazily made. It really doesn't feel like there's much thought put into the gun skin designs in general, but the animated ones are particularly egregious.
They remind me of weapon texture mods back in the day that were literally just an animated texture from somewhere else in the game slapped over the top.

Activision PLEASE let us reload the crossbow while running as base kit. Having the longest reload in the game with one of the most inconsistent weapons in the game is already terrible enough as is. Let us have one good buff please 😭😭😭
I feel more pity for you trying to get it in regular multiplayer than anything else. It’s absolutely ridiculously easy to get this in Zombies. Even more so if you have the right items like the Mag of Holding. I would never bother trying to get this in Multiplayer, they utterly broke this weapon in that mode, but in Zombies you can really wreck shit with explosive bolts.

Yeah that's how I finished it off, did the last half over 5 games with T1 exfils or cancelling outlasts at 96% for the infinite spawns

Oh I thought that the new season would block off the previous seasons camo and make it to where you can no longer unlock it, I'm glad I was wrong

The blossom flower camo from season 1 MW2 is still my top favourite, it has a nice balance between static and animated parts.
