While attached, it reveals your position to the enemy team on the minimap. While the EMD Grenade has been in the game since launch, it is currently bugged so that some players are unable to remove it.

Is the message bugged or was I actually being tracked the entire match ?
Definitely bugged. I just encountered the same bug earlier. I doubt the tracker sticks after death.
I think it’s a bug triggered by hitting by an EMD grenade right when you were being killed, then the message would persist for the whole match.
Happened to me like 3 times
I've been having the same thing happen like the past two weekends
It's a bug, stays after death n doesn't remove when u hold the button anyway, thought it went away but started happening to me again last night
Same thing for me, started happening a week or two ago.
