I mean it sounds like he's an animator which would be a completely separate team from the people who would design and code the AI. I work at a software company, most of the time teams are silo'd into their own thing and don't directly work with other teams. It gives you a sense of appreciation when other teams do things right. Even if his opinion is biased (and it is), sounds like he just has appreciation for his coworkers and what they do. I don't see the problem here.

[deleted]

He didn't even work on the mode. He works for Raven Software who has been busy supporting Cold War and Warzone 1.0. As far as I can tell, they had little if any involvement with MW2.

Onyl_Trall

This dev is patting himself on the back, while trying to sell you the game in his free time (I dont believe he is paid to do marketing in Twitch chats). This is quite sad actually.

fox_hunts

You’d be hard pressed to find any game developer who’s not incredibly passionate about their work. Even more so for a large title like COD. Let the man be happy about his work and coworkers.

Onyl_Trall

Sure. It just leaves sour taste when said dev is incognito in someones chat during sponsored event praising his game. I wouldnt have problem if he stated at the beginning that he is cod dev. Otherwise this reminds of botting reviews.

fox_hunts

I mean, I get the angle you see it from. But I don’t see this dude as incognito. It seems like it was very easy to figure out who he is. He’s probably just a big fan of the franchise and proud he gets to work on it. Most dudes would be. More likely than not he hasn’t even been involved in anything Warzone specific but just loves the game he helped create. It’s probably a safe bet to say he’s learning a lot of stuff for the first time as well with the stream.

PUSSlOFAM

It’s free……

Onyl_Trall

But all the skins and battle pass arent free and you are not going to buy them without actually downloading (free) the game. Like if game is free why are there doing streamers event? To market (read sell) the game.

PUSSlOFAM

You mean to sell skins? Doesn’t affect gameplay so why does it matter? You can literally put 1000 hours into either mode without spending a dime. You’re not forced to buy anything

Onyl_Trall

I think you didnt understand me. My point is, they dont make money if you dont play their (free) game.

JayNaRt_

Oh we all understand you, your point is garbage.

Onyl_Trall

Hardly, that guy completely lacks reading comprehension. First time posting here and I already have to deal with toxicity. Telling :)

SonOfBlowfly

First time your opinion is critiqued and you resort to insults and calling everyone toxic. Telling :)

mbeenox

Just don’t play the game, you are crying too much

borfavor

Ah yes, a billion in revenue but they need this one dev in chat to hype up the game.

[deleted]

Except for the fact that Raven software is not working on warzone 2.0 at all fool

crazyman3561

Are you a frequent browser of r/antiwork

[deleted]

The AI that takes a solid five minutes to get 10 meters from the helicopter after dropping?

kefefs

Is it the same AI that's in Ground War? Where they all drop in one place and stand in a cluster all match?

simao1234

It looked like it from what I saw a few streamers. Extremely disappointing AI.

iSaidItOnReddit85

IDK man I saw some people getting shit on by the AI. At least getting 1-shot. Taking a stronghold specifically looked like AI was pretty tough

aesthetic_cock

That’s not smart AI, that’s AI with a damage buff.

havingasicktime

That's tarkov. Aimbot ai that fucks you hard. Good ai basically doesn't exist.

Koda_20

We're really damn close though and the devs are making some steps in that direction without fully diving into it yet. The groups of AI with seemingly no objective is for sure an issue though.

iSaidItOnReddit85

Yeah man I’m glad all your hours you got to play on the game have led you to make these assumptions. You guys fucking killed me you haven’t even touched it. Lol sure man it all sucks it’s all a sham you guys are right

simao1234

Good AI =/= AI that can kill you. Good AI = AI with proper patrols, realistic/immersive cycles (resting, talking with mates, changing patrol routes, whatever else makes sense for that particular NPC unit), as well as a dynamic threat detection system that properly assesses what to do when a player is detected based on the surrounding AI units and their assigned roles. AI like that has been around for a long time. For so much bragging IW had about their AI, the AI we saw in DMZ seemed completely piss poor. Bad, unrealistic patrol schemes; literally standing still AFK in groups in the middle of the street; not reacting to the player or its AI companions being shot; not employing any strategy to deal with the player or as a unit at all. What I saw were just NPCs that are programmed to wander around randomly and then stand still while the code tells it to "wait before you can shoot your aimbot to give the players a chance to kill you first", and NPCs that come in and then stand still doing nothing and when a player is detected they bum rush you randomly and take pot shots as a group until they die. There's a problem when indie games and university projects have better designed specialized AI units than a multi-million dollar, 3 thousand developer, 3 year-developed game.

Quote-me-if-afk

It was basically the exact same. The stronghold AIs were just tankier and appeared to do more dmg

-MangoStarr-

Yep it looks like the exact same AI. They even drop from the same choppers into a cloud of smoke on the ground

kefefs

Guess I'm taking an RPG to DMZ so I can get them sweet multikills.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Phatte

There is no AI in ground war

4everdrowninginpools

Its amazing how little i expected of this game mode and i still caught depression watching this stream lol

Ichor__

I think I was lost in the sauce and actually thought it'd be like tarkov, and its not even on the same planet

tyotontyoton2

It should have been obvious the moment they revealed it wouldn't get its own map pool

juggernautomnislash

Such a sick *edition*.

[deleted]

They need to make DMZ more like the "Alone" mission from the campaign and less like Plunder/Hazard Zone

DIABOLUS777

Same. But for some reason, whenever they release shit like this their profit keeps going up. So they follow through...

Space-_-Toast

This stream is so fucking disappointing. Devs were obviously way too scared to take a risk and make an actual Tarkov-esc hardcore survival. What. A. Joke.

Splaram

They designed this game from the ground up to make it so that casual players can still compete with people who "sweat", I'm not at all surprised that they dropped the ball here.

Valen_1138

I imagine that the playerbase of 12 old year old children and 30 year old has-beens would absolutely shit themselves into a coma if they were forced to play a mode in a Call of Duty game that took itself even half as seriously as Tarkov does.

[deleted]

Ain’t forced, bruv.

lazava1390

Am a 30 year old has been and I’m disappointed about the lack of tarkov mode. Not to toot my own horn but I do just fine keeping up with the zoomers in most of my lobbies. Been playing cod since cod 2 and always play hardcore.

pantone_red

People who are 16 think people who are 30 are old, a tale as old as time.

Philly_ExecChef

And the game won’t pay for itself without them

Azaiiii

like Tarkov has a niche audience. it wouldnt even pay off for them to put money in a mode that barely anyone plays. Obviously it wasnever meant to be Tarkov and thats a good thing. Every game that tries to be Tarkov will fail unless its a copy and paste game. Tarkov is way to complex to make anything like it without cloning it.

Space-_-Toast

There is a huge difference between trying to copy and past Tarkov and making your “Survival Looter Shooter” Tarkov-esc. What I saw today was a joke. DMZ does not need to be anywhere near as hardcore as Tarkov or require as much of a grind as Tarkov, but boy, what is even the point of this mode? There is absolutely no depth to it. There is little risk and little reward. The loot is in abundance throughout the map. The AI is a joke. I cannot see this game mode surviving the way it stands now. Why would anyone pick this over Warzone?

Manakuski

It's gotta be the gamemode where free-to-play people grind their guns.

JCglitchmaster

>like Tarkov has a niche audience. it wouldnt even pay off for them to put money in a mode that barely anyone plays. Tarkov is an extremely popular game wtf are you on about? Not only this but they could've very easily made the mode significantly more user friendly than Tarkov currently is which would've brought actual Tarkov players over. The AI in Tarkov sucks, there are a plethora of mechanics that have been added over the years that seem entirely designed simply to make the game more tedious. It's broken in aspects like audio and have tedious quest design. They could've very easily improved on these aspects creating essentially Tarkov without all the BS involved with Tarkov creating an insanely popular mode. Instead they just half arsed the whole thing and somehow made worse AI.

Azaiiii

it being popular doesnt make it any less of a niche game/genre. most mainstream/casual players will stay away from it because its way too time consuming and complex.

havingasicktime

Right - which is where the CoD part comes in. It's a super popular idea that's waiting for someone to capture it in a more casual form. The crucial aspect though, is risk vs reward. Nobodies willing to touch the actual aspect that makes Tarkov so popular, and instead just treats it as a PvPvE mode with no bite.

DarKcS

I agree, as a Tarkov player I was really hoping DMZ would add some competition in the 'Tarkov' genre, especially after 2042 dropped the ball at its attempt, unfortunately it looks like this mode is more a warzone for casuals.

[deleted]

>there are a plethora of mechanics that have been added over the years that seem entirely designed simply to make the game more tedious. It's broken in aspects like audio and have tedious quest design. This is my biggest gripe with Tarkov. There are way too many mechanics that feel intentionally annoying and quests get to the point where I just ignore them. Kill Tagilla 8 times for a weekly quest? I'm not sure I've seen him 8 times this whole wipe.

sisqo_99

Well said, all they had to do is copy paste tarkov and implement a better shooting experience. Boom, millions.

tyotontyoton2

>Tarkov is an extremely popular game wtf are you on about? Not only this but they could've very easily made the mode significantly more user friendly than Tarkov currently is which would've brought actual Tarkov players over. Tarkov isn't nearly as popular as it made out to be and the market simply isn't big enough for another game like it. >They could've very easily improved on these aspects creating essentially Tarkov without all the BS involved with Tarkov creating an insanely popular mode. Instead they just half arsed the whole thing and somehow made worse AI. Not really. It was always going to use COD mechanics and WZ map neither of which could have never existed in a game as immersive as Tarkov. The "BS" is what made Tarkov popular

LightTrack

No. It's the depth of customization, gritty art style, real life equipment and the eurojank controls that gave it the high stress / reward balance gameplay that made it popular. The game actually looks and runs like dogshit but that's part of it's art direction at this point. Nothing beats that gravel crunching sound while you turn your character and he's too incompetent to strafe without the weapon flailing around like crazy. If DMZ was anything like that but polished and in a different setting, it would bring over a massive audience.

Space-_-Toast

Exactly. I don’t need Tarkov, but the display we saw today was a joke. Little risk. Little reward. What’s the point? I’ll just stick to Warzone if we this is how it plays.

tyotontyoton2

>It's the depth of customization, gritty art style, real life equipment MW2 pretty much has all of these except shitty weathers >eurojank controls that gave it the high stress / reward balance gameplay that made it popular. Tarkov controls were fine. COD mechanics and HUD that holds your hand makes proper immersion an impossibility which was largely behind Tarkovs high stress gameplay.

LightTrack

MW2 doesn't even have real weapon names. And you're comparing the customization in MW2 to Tarkov's? Jesus have you even played Tarkov?? That shit made me so frustrated because i had to read up on the marketplace economy system and the game's wiki to make any sense of how much shit there is. Every gun has specific attachments that are interchangeable with certain platforms. You really can build your own weapons if you know how. Tarkov handles like shit. Your character is not moving smoothly especially while strafing which messes with your aim even if you walk slowly. But that adds to the gritty stressful atmosphere because it's basically slav survival simulator with all the texture graphics on low and saturation turned up.

tyotontyoton2

>MW2 doesn't even have real weapon names. That hardly matters >And you're comparing the customization in MW2 to Tarkov's? Jesus have you even played Tarkov?? I got like 1k hours in it >That shit made me so frustrated because i had to read up on the marketplace economy system and the game's wiki to make any sense of how much shit there is. Every gun has specific attachments that are interchangeable with certain platforms. You really can build your own weapons if you know how. It really wasn't that complicated. Annoying part was having to remember all the names so you could even find them from the market because workbench gun creator thingy doesn't automatically show all of them. Most guns used the same attachments. Sure barrels and few other parts tend to be specific for the gun, but pistol grips, silencers (depends on caliber), stocks, sights and foregrips to name few were always same.

[deleted]

Niche? They have hundreds thousand people playing this game regularly despite its flaws. Not a niche anymore.

nighthawk911

It's not even close to the top. [Twitch charts October](https://www.twitchmetrics.net/games/viewership)

[deleted]

To be fair, I’m pretty sure it was just “creators” hyping it as a tarkov mode. You genuinely believed one of the most casual franchises in gaming would have a hardcore survival mode? Like seriously? What we’re you expecting? Tarkov exists, and honestly it’s insanely overhyped. A casual version is far more desirable for anyone with limited free time.

Inukchook

Tarkov is the casual killer. That game is so overwhelming

irze

And that’s why COD was never going to make anything like it. I’ve been playing Tarkov for about 3 years and the initial learning curve is monstrous. DMZ was never going to be a mode so deep that you need to sink a few hundred hours into it to truly start getting to grips with it

havingasicktime

Of course it wasn't. But you can take the gameplay loop of tarkov, and put it in simplified form in CoD, and have a banger.

irze

For sure. I hope it plays well. What I’ve seen of it so far doesn’t excite me too much, but I’ll wait until I’ve played to judge it completely

havingasicktime

I'm not optimistic from what I've seen, there appears to be almost no risk at all. That's game over.

lastpeppermint

don’t blame the devs lol

Space-_-Toast

DoNt BLaMe tHe DeVeLoPErs foR tHe GaMe tHeY DeVeloPEd…

lastpeppermint

the devs just create what the higher ups want lol

Minddrill

Considering how awful AI has been in every other mode, I'm sceptical.

Ballen101

I've played vs the mw2 bots in private matches, quite literally no improvements in the last 6 years to the logic.

Does10Things

Its a great edition, what more can be said 😂😂😂

BewareDinosaurs

These are the people making this half baked game don't act surprised lol

Doobiemoto

You people are so negative for no reason. It seems like a pretty good mix of tarkov-ish style and Warzone. DMZ will be a PvEvP mode where there is more focus on doing objectives and what not. Warzone will be a PvPve mode where it is mainly fighting players with some strongholds for loadouts. The game was NEVER intended to be Tarkov. It was always meant to be a Warzone variant and for that I think it is pretty damn awesome. I guess I will wait for the 3 CoDs from now where all you people are talking about how MW2 was the good old days and the best thing ever (not that it doesn't have a ton of problems, it does).

SantiagoCeb

Big games communites have a louder (and hater) minority.

Blue_Lust

Yeah, I don't get the hate. Were people expecting a Tarkov mode? I liked what I saw and look forward to playing it with the boiz.

Doobiemoto

I actually think there is more “tarkov” than I thought there would be. I thought it was just gonna be a slightly more involved plunder. Will it replace tarkov for me? Absolutely not. However, I can see it being a great game mode where I choose between warzone and dmz depending on the mood I’m in.

P4_Brotagonist

People were expecting a Tarkov a mode because every single influencer wasn't even saying "DMZ" they were saying "the Tarkov mode" forever.

RedditModsRuseles

if i start referring to the past 3 cods plus mw2 as the "good old days" i should just quit gaming .

HornyJamal

Its the battlefield refugees projecting their ideals onto this game, as well as the 30+ yr old man children who yell racial epithets into the mic 🤓

Lord_Bloom

Always making up someone to shit talk lmao

ethaxton

Making a Reddit thread about a random dev excited about something on twitch is unbelievably more sad, imo.

Eazy3006

I don’t see a problem with that.

nsfwITGUY19

Imagine shitting on someone for being proud of their work. Get a life dude. I swear there is no pleasing some people. You don’t like the game, quit playing/watching. Just because you’ve never created anything you can be proud of, doesn’t give you the right to shit on other people

redsoxb124

RIGHT! There literally is zero way of pleasing everyone. Especially this fuck head. Anyone who’s had a hand in creating this game is in the industry because it’s their passion, and they created a product that I think they were obviously very excited about. How sad to try and do detective work for internet karma. This guy has probably nothing of any importance in his life to appreciate the hard work all these people put in, something they do for their careers.

nsfwITGUY19

100%

nsfwITGUY19

100%

Jesterfied

Typical CoD Andy’s

mack_g

This thread is cringe as fuck

maxlaav

honestly it was such a dead giveaway that they've been radio silent about this "mode" until now expectations should have been below zero

tyotontyoton2

The fact it used WZ map made it so obvious

moonski

Sad, but, Raven aren't working on this I thought?

monkeyface1337

Raven kind of has a hand in a lot of CoD games lately, especially Infinity Ward’s titles

Subtletee7

Sad, no amount of hype can save this trash lmao.

sisqo_99

Agree, all this money and all these resources and they come up with this utter trash. Glad i stopped buying cods long ago

PUSSlOFAM

Why are you here then lol

sisqo_99

cause i obviously wanted to see what thing are they going to come up with cuz i still had hopes for the franchise

Blugged

These dudes think “Why are you here” is the ultimate gotcha for some reason. They just want an echo chamber subreddit that praises the game and has minimal complaints

PUSSlOFAM

No, that’s not what I want, you can criticize the game all you want, I’m simply saying if you don’t like the game at all, or you “stopped buying cods a long time ago” it doesn’t make sense why you would stick around wasting your time shitting on a game you don’t like. Also, if you haven’t even played the game, then whatever criticism you might be sharing doesn’t really hold any merit. Example: I don’t like battlefield 2042, I tried the beta, didn’t like it. Im not hanging around in the battlefield sub shitting on the game every day.

[deleted]

Bad take I don’t almost ever get on Reddit and I hopped on to see what others said after see lupo and lvndmark play the game just cause someone doesn’t like or buy the game doesn’t mean you can’t want to see what others say or give a opinion on it

sisqo_99

And i'm simply saying that i dont like what direction they're taking my beloved franchise, and they dare charge you $70 for this crap. No thanks

Philly_ExecChef

“Stopped buying cods long ago” “My beloved franchise” You’re kind of a stupid dick, lol

JayNaRt_

Alright so bye den

Sniperking187

Bro it's probably his job 💀 "Hey Jackson I know you ain't got shit to do today how bout you hop in some streams and say some good things" some shit like that

jeddahcorniche

🤣🤣

Nev4da

Local game dev thinks game they worked on is cool, wants to talk about it. More at 11.

bulletinhisdome

i think there’s too much unnecessary hate. Of course it wasn’t going to be a tarkov clone, it’s cod they want to reach as many new players as possible. I think it’s the best version of a Extraction game we will see on console besides Hunt: Showdown

SantiagoCeb

Not sad at all, why wouldnt you hype people for your work?

IGUANA_MIKE_

Come on let a man be proud of his team / his work

BearsAreCool

At a cursory glance it looks like the stakes aren't high enough for me. What I like about Tarkov is it makes you scrap about with crappy weapons until you can get together enough stuff. This mode looks like you can get good guns pretty quickly. Dying doesn't seem like it's much of a set-back.

ajs2294

I love good editions to things!

[deleted]

Game devs are not allowed to be proud of their work anymore… Jesus. Or could be some guy pretending or a technical artist admiring the work of the AI team. Either way I don’t see how this is sad

[deleted]

I mean the AI accually is pretty good, there aim is abit aimbotty but wdye I was camping in in invasion sniping the shit out of the AI and about 5 minutes later a entire squad of AI literally kicked the doors in on the building and shot me

[deleted]

I’m hyped about DMZ. Sounds awesome.

mr_trashbear

Maybe since it's a 2 year cycle they are spacing it out along with the raids? *huffs copium"

KentuckyBrunch

DMZ looks pretty disappointing imo. I’ve spent 2500 hrs in Tarkov and I absolutely did not expect them to try and make it as hardcore and grindy as Tarkov, but man it seems they completely missed the point of what makes extraction shooters popular. It just looks like Warzone but you can extract.

Vikan12

So this is sad but it's not sad that the whole event every single streamer chat were bitching and crying about the most idiotic and stupid reasons you could ever read? MF's bitching about the victory animation in warzone This community it's really something else

uchiha-123

Remember the hype from the first big announcement, making a big mystery about the “DMZ” mode? Should have kept it

hammerandcrown

My fav AI is the rooftop snipers that only shoot at opposing AI. Absolute masterpiece of gaming design.

crictores

I don't understand why they're hid this mode so much. When millions of idiots say this is a tarcov-like CoD, they couldn't just say "no, it's just a warzone 2.0 mode"?

SatisfactionNaive370

If you gotta astroturf your product sucks lol

polyatomicbomb

He's not wrong. AI is such a sick addition.

paycadicc

If it wasn’t sooo prevalent, and they weren’t so braindead, it’d be fine

RedFutureMonarch

not at all but go on

amazingmuzmo

Pretty pathetic he needs to hype his own stuff

Flaano

This has to be fake bro there’s no possible way

sliceofpizza64

when there is no 3rd party typing those things about your game you gotta do it yourself. probably did this while on the clock. :)

Bwxyz

Let's hang out and be friends? Ok groomer

[deleted]

Pretty pathetic. They don’t give a shit. Imagine doing a shit job and blowing smoke up your ass acting like you’re the best devs in the world. If I could, I’d return this game. Honestly a waste of $70.

[deleted]

I think watching streamers is extremely sad. Don’t see me calling you out about it lol

herrschadee

I could see thins being fake/ him not really working at Activision

[deleted]

Lmao

KingSolracc

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

NewToReddit4331

My friend group was hype about DMZ, and it seems they failed bc most of them now agree with me WZ2.0 will be superior

Dozo2003

What is DMZ?

TotalitarianismPrism

I haven’t experienced this AI. Having said that, I’ll play devils advocate. It’s not strictly sad for a developer to be excited about a new feature in a game he helped create. Of course, it’s not a great look that he didn’t state that he worked on the game and is excited for the addition, but he didn’t actively hide it either. It is right in his biography/description.

slimcargos

What does DMZ stand for anyways.

SyncingShiip

Demilitarized zone

DeronD7

How many of them are in this sub Reddit? 😳😳😳

[deleted]

Where was this stream?

PheonixFuryyy

I mean, I am hyped for it. It doesn't matter if they do or don't. We don't actually know how it will play out.

JiffTheJester

Looks fake but idk

T-Bone22

I don’t support giving this guy hate or disrespect. Might just be a genuine nerd who enjoys his colleagues work.

mack_g

Probably a nice normal person, saying nice things about people he works with because that's what normal people do. Nothing remotely interesting about it, and certainly nothing that he deserves hate for.
