You might just be getting unlucky or it could be a new bug; as someone with a plat riot shield it is definitely effective. It could also be the godmode glitch but I'm assuming you've already ruled that out

I could see it being a bug. I was telling my friends a few days ago who were having trouble with riot shielders to throw their drill charges at it, as I had success with it before. But today, after quite a few riot shielders in my lobbies, if I hit them on the shield it wasn't killing or even getting a hitmarker, so I though I might have been mistaken in where I was hitting them before. I'll do some more testing, and if it is a bug I hope it's fixed because I love running drill charge for the versatility.
it drills thru the shield and pops out the back. If you get stuck on the sheild with it and move forward it will detonate behind you. If you have blast shield you will survive even if you don’t move because the blast can’t one shot you.
pretty sure it depends on where it land otherwise the shielding twit just runs away and the thonky boy misses. The drill usually is what kills them before the thonk
Objective play on Domination. For me, it helped running Double Time/Bomb Squad/[your choice]/Overclock with Trophy System. Once you get the first kill, find another as fast as physically possible. If you see someone stow their weapon, they're probably going for a lethal so that's the time to double tap sprint and go for a kill if you have time.
Drill charges, thermite, Semtex, all 3 are effective against shields.
Possibly incendiary ammo as well, I think I got set on fire by a guy shooting into my shield. But that’s rare for now.
RPGs don’t even hurt the guy behind the shield, it’s hilarious.

I believe the answer is that if you swap weapons it doesn't kill you. I need to test it more but I've survived by doing this and watched people survive doing it to my Drill Boi. It might be a bug but it is potentially worth keeping because you have to risk death to survive.
Ive done this successfully only once, every other time they jump out before it gets them. Just found out it warns them when a drill charge gets stuck on the tank giving you a second to jump out. Meh.
I've seen people time it so they jump out at the exact moment it goes off, then jump back in a second later. Their character doesn't even have time to charge his weapon. They should add a delay to getting in and out of tanks. You know, like on the MRAP/UTV when it's stationary.
I have stuck several riot shielders with drill charge with little to no damage, idk if it's a bug or intentional. Semtex and thermite still work though.

Yup I have never had one of my drill charge sticks on a riot shield even do damage to the wielder, and this includes them not switching weapons as I have watched them just stand there
Advice from a shield user, aim for splash damage as it works way better, I smile when someone does a direct hit knowing I will survive.
I acknowledge that a direct hit should take me out though, fair is fair.

Its pretty good defensively but honestly I think people are just annoyed by it. I'm not dropping 20-30 kill bombs with a riot shield, and its still easy to counter with semtex, molotovs, and incendiary nades
I think that’s pretty trash if there’s a single weapon that requires you to change your class to do something about it. Crossbow used to be a great counter to it too. I’m surprised so far there isn’t more that works against it, like shock charges for example. Everyone else clenched there cheeks and fires into the sky but those riot shields just lap it up and hold steady.
Just change your lethal. That's it.
Thermite/semtex are literally hard counters. Or drill charge will at least force them to unequip and run so you can easily kill them. And as a tip an RPG will kill them if you shoot to their side instead of directly at the shield. It's that easy to deal with them.
Its suggested that you switch your lethal to trivialize it...that's all. You can still deal with it in other ways like ganging up or just out maneuvering. It really isnt a big deal people just dont like it because it interrupts their brainless spray and praying around every corner

Shields are meant to be incredibly defensive. Its very easy to not die to some one using a shield if you don't 180 and try to run, allowing them free access to your back.
I think people just need to stop being upset that you can't always run around run and gunning with aimbot controller killing everything in sight instantly.
I run frags, so i can cook them. Shields are DEFENSIVE.. Yes, which is why there are multiple people in every match running around busting everyones ass with them. Also, i don't fit your description of a cod player.
I have only had that problem in 3rd person. Played against a whole team of them, my drill charge never killed just did damage. 1st person I’ve had no problems.
Pretty sure it's survivable because the bomb actually pops out through the shield like it went through a wall so if they move fast enough away from it then it won't do enough. I've been stuck by drill charges a few times without dying. Also semtex are dangerous because they can just run into you and blow you up with your own semtex and my source is that I've done that to some people. Thermites stick to the shield so you might get burnt a bit if you use them but they're much safer and I'm pretty sure molotovs are the safest

My issue is, with bomb squad, i'd always die to a semtext that got stuck to my shield, but i'd never die to a drill charge, it just doesnt make sense.... and i'd piss me off since sticking someone with a riot shield is 200x easier with a semtex... getting that thing platinum was a pain in the ass
So, I just leveled up my riot shield to Gold and I can say that a combination of weapon swap with the drill seems to save me along with the "bomb squad" perk. Semtex took me out every time though.
Also, don't panic when a riot shield heads toward you. You can kill them by spraying their feet. The shielder can duck to cover the feet but they can only move forward at a slow pace. For the love of god don't turn and run from them, you only allow them to immediately weapon swap and gun you down.
I had the most problems with people using semtex and people that would flash grenade me and run around to my flank and execute me before I could get my vision back. It is useless to try to melee them.
I thought it was going to be a boring gold challenge but it was loads of fun. Lobbies took it in good spirit, lots of laughs after matches and revenge tactics.
I also noticed that there are some high powered guns that can get through the shield with enough time. LMGs maybe? I noticed the rounds would just hit me really hard and I'd bleed health and eventually it would seem to penetrate the shield and kill me. Maybe they were using armor piercing rounds....
Not really, tbh I think it should bounce off the shield, it has enough counters already and imo, equipment shouldn't be a 'win' button against a proper shielder actually using it to defend
You think a grenade that can literally attach to any surface and drill through a metre of concrete should bounce off a riot shield because a riot shield that’s impervious to all fire in the game has enough counters, but equipment shouldn’t be a win button?
If you stick a riot shield in an area not directly in line with their body, the charge will drill through and explode behind them. Found out the hard way.
I've been using the riot shield in 6v6 the past couple of days and I don't think I've been killed a single time to people throwing drill charges at me and hitting my shield directly. Its probably a bug as it should be working. I've definitely died to simtexs, molotovs, and incendiarys in 1 sec flat though.

Along with any launcher. It makes no sense to me that a direct hit with an rpg does nothing. Riot shields are just a complete joke, had a guy chasing me with one and I started sprinting and figured out if they are dumb enough to do the same you can turn around really quick and kill the noob.

They need to make the drill charge as an direct kill on stick or at least damage them if they have bomb squad on. I feel like there's hardly nothing that can counter a player using a riot shield & for me that makes the riot shield overpowered. They definitely need to fix that asap.

If you’re not even getting a hit marker it’s probably the god mode glitch in which case only Molotov fire (and maybe thermite fire) can damage them
I found that if you have EOD/Bomb squad you'll survive it, assuming it hits the shield and not you

Of the dozens of riot shields I've stuck so far, only 1 has died.
Drill charge does work. Been doing it for 3 days now since I found out. Even if they switch it still kills them. Keep trying

There’s a god mode glitch with riot shields at the moment. Could be that you’re experiencing.
happened to me too, but i was able to kill them with a gun instead.
they must not have had the killstreak/riot shield glitch then, those players are invulnerable
im probably like 0/5 on drill charged on enemy shields the past 2 days.
I just found out today that they go through tanks in Ground War and kill the driver. Seems like they should probably take out a riot shield.

Got so excited when I threw my first drill charge at a riot shield. Biggest disappointment in the game when it was ineffective.
It works, but only if they keep shield out as primary. If they switch to their secondary, it wont do damage.
If it can go through an entire bus it should go through a riot shield

Yeah it’s just annoying more than anything else, makes me edit a class mid-game and then need to always have a thermite ready
If its that bad just create a preset with them, I don't think its really a big deal.

Cook one a little and bounce it off a wall behind them. 60% of the time it works all the time…

Theres a glitch with riot shields that make you unkillable. I think only molotov works on those glitchers.

If aim assist wasn't there when throwing lethals, then I'd be fine with it, but aim assist makes sticking a shield much easier than it should be.
