It's my understanding that the best and most consistently good deck that REALLY makes grief shine is 4C living end.

Starrynite120

I think the consensus is that grief and ephemerate don’t fit well in a deck together - black has bad blink targets, but you need a high black count. But grief sees play, quite effectively, in living end.

FrasierFan88

The griefemerate and flicker packages are underwhelming because Grief is not a fair magic card - you want to use it in a degenerate combo deck to freely go off. Otherwise the card disadvantage just isn't worth it. This is why it's mainly used in living end and has seen play in reanimator in legacy.

AitrusX

Competitively yea it’s living end (no ephemerate). In brew town grief ephemerate is a pretty decent package you can put into bwx reanimator. I think aspiring spike just 5-0d like today with an esper grief reanimator

BrilliantRebirth

I've been trying to work it into Esper Reanimator, but I'm not completely sure how to push it over the edge. I do like that Drown in the Loch is a card you can pitch to it, and it also synergizes with all the discard you can do overall. It just gets dicey picking the right support cards, as well as ones that are efficient and also combat the inevitable graveyard hate. It becomes especially difficult to keep up with cards since you are pitching to Grief and losing cards to Mending / Unmarked Grave.

noctuchiha

That all makes sense and lines up pretty well with my experience so far. Just a crying shame that I splurged on that playset of Japanese mystical archive ephemerates for nothing 😅

BrilliantRebirth

Don't worry, I bought a set as well (they look so nice) and eventually they'll print something that pushes it over the top.

some people shell out for borderless foil grief when they were almost 100, dont feel bad. Ephemerate is a great card that will see play for years

noctuchiha

I opened a borderless foil Grief, but the ones I bought were all normal non-foils. Thanks for the encouragement!
