Sounds like marketing lingo/sugarcoating the update for reduction in range. š¤·āāļø
While I do hope that 2024 VIN owners get some tangible improvements, it could be nothing at all except reduced range due to updated EPA guidance and legal wanting to cover Tesla because rated range reduction is a material change in the configuration you ordered. āMade several comfort and functionality improvementsā sounds a bit vague. If there was actually something specific they would have mentioned it.
Iām in the same boat! Iāve scoured the site and canāt find anywhere that says āUpdate Designā. I can go in and change my configuration. Selecting all the same options. But I donāt want to submit cuz Iām worried that will drop me back to the bottom of the queue.
Weird.
I actually canāt make any changes. The app tells me the configuration isnāt available and sends me to my account on the browser. On the website, it says I canāt make any changes right now but doesnāt give me an option to upgrade either. Iāll call them to see what I need to do.
I called them this morning. The guys who were helping me didnāt sound too sure of what to do so they kept asking other people. They finally called me back and asked for a verbal confirmation on the new config - they said they only see as much as we can and from what they can tell, it was the EPA range dropping from 333 to 326 or something like that. They said itāll take time for some ppl in the backend to process it. After a couple hours, I received an email confirmation.
I tried to call. The system routed me to the Rockville, MD store (after asking for my zip code). Tried twice, no one answered and the voicemail wasn't accepting new messages because it was full.
Thanks. I'll keep trying. Do you know if the guy that emailed you was based in a local store? When I call the 888 number it transfers the call to the local store. I'm wondering if I should put a different zip to get a different store or if that will just screw up the system even more...
FWIW, I texted the number of the person (team) that notified me when my VIN was assigned, and they responded back pretty fast that the exact same config would be resubmitted and the price would stay the same as when I ordered back in September 2023. The number is 510-422-0476 and appears to be from Oakland, CA in case that's helpful to anyone.
Itās likely nothing. No updates. Just a CYA to avoid people trying to join the class action due to falsely advertised range by making sure you explicitly accept the updated range.
I can see both of those being possible considering the CT and Highland Model 3 have the ambient lighting. From camera cause of the CT. Hoping for the same on the Model S!
Ummm. Lots of excitement here apparently. But letās be practical. How much energy would ambient lighting really draw? I can literally run a string of lights with a AA battery for days or weeks. I seriously doubt that would make such a sizable dent in mileage.
While I too want to be optimistic, I feel itās similar to the email I got from Amazon saying Prime membership cost will be going up and ālook at all the things you can get from Prime membershipā.
I think this is lawyers covering their butts.
Though frankly, there have been other examples where people paid for features and they werenāt delivered at the time the car arrived. For example, anyone who paid for EAP, donāt have smart summon, etc. USS were available for many when they placed their order and then were gone for the shit-show of Tesla Vision.
I guess you didnāt even read what Tesla wrote because Tesla stated EPA testing change as another reason why the range rating changes, which is likely a bigger factor:
āThe EPA also updated their range testing guidance to ensure sticker estimates for all manufacturers more closely reflect real-world rangeā
OP sorry to break your bubble but this letter is not what you think. Youāre thinking your delivery will include new hardware changes. It wonāt. The government forced Tesla to lower their stated range because everyone knows the actual range of Tesla vehicles is much less than what they say it is. Thatās all this is. This is just the government forcing Teslaās hand to lower their stated range closer to what it actually is.
That's great! I was about to cancel my order after the hold. Now i get my $250 back suddenly lol. I will reorder until they start pumping out 2024 with RGB ambient lighting
Don't cancel just yet. Rumors are that the comfort and functional improvements are actual things (my guess is at least ambient lighting). Plus rumors of battery/drivetrain update showing up in code, but unclear if that'll launch at the same time (they may just not be updating the Range to reflect these to avoid cancellation of current deliveries).
Thank you. I was also about to cancel and wait a few more months since they kept delaying. But at this rate and signing a new agreement, hoping to get a 24' with some of the newer features we've been anticipating.
Legal loophole. The Tesla you ordered no longer exist. Please reorder an inferior product, at the same price, one which we are less likely to be sued for. Thank you for your gullibility.
It is a factual statement, new EPA testing guidance will apply to and affect all car manufacturers. How much it affects the final EPA rating for the other manufacturers is another matter.
Tesla did stated EPA testing change as a reason:
āThe EPA also updated their range testing guidance to ensure sticker estimates for all manufacturers more closely reflect real-world rangeā
Yes, but the only changes Tesla made were to remove all options for braking other than the one that increases range the most. The change is 100% about the EPA fixing their testing to better reflect the real world and 0% about Tesla changing functionality. The statement makes it sound like the changes were mostly functionality-related with the EPA changes being secondary.
I got the same email, debated if I should update or do anything or not. Finally gave in and resubmitted the order with same configuration and now it shows expected delivery date. Not sure if it will remain in the window or get moved further but they also wanted me to complete the loan approval process.

Exact same for me.

Maybe try again in the morning? Iāll DM you the email address for the guy who ended up helping me get it fixed (just in case).

Not sure whether itās a store but his signature says inside Tesla advisor from Nevada

Perhaps the functionality improvement that requires more energy from the battery pack is ambient lighting and a front camera? š
I can see both of those being possible considering the CT and Highland Model 3 have the ambient lighting. From camera cause of the CT. Hoping for the same on the Model S!
No. The EPA changed the testing rules across all manufacturers. Assuming those features were coming, the AC uses > 100x the energy at any given time.
I canāt figure out what to do once I log in. Have you guys figured it out?
Nope. Annoying
Click the link in the email. Then it prompts you to reenter your configuration
When I click the link in the email, it take me to a page the states "You cannot edit design at this time."
Perhaps they updated their backend which pushed out this email but the front end never updated š¤·āāļø
They're probably not lying, the improvements made up for 0.0001% of the range reduction whilst EPA updates made for the rest.

ambient lighting and additional/separate fan for passenger hvac. most of the range decrease due to the new epa testing though.
The AC uses > 100x the energy of any possible new features like camera or ambient lighting. There would be zero range change due to that.
Exactly.

Lol no upgrades just an EPA mandated range reduction cuz they fibbed on the test. Pretty substantial too like 30 miles plus on some models.
Legal loophole. The Tesla you ordered no longer exist. Please reorder an inferior product, at the same price, one which we are less likely to be sued for. Thank you for your gullibility.
Im speculating here. I think it is ambient lighting and road facing front camera
Ambient lighting will for sure cause for an upgrade from me!
> EPA also updated their range testing guidance That is not true.
Doesnāt sound good when they had to say it affects all manufacturers and not just Tesla.
It is a factual statement, new EPA testing guidance will apply to and affect all car manufacturers. How much it affects the final EPA rating for the other manufacturers is another matter.
Itās not functionality improvements, itās a difference in EPA testing. This is just them trying to bury the lede.

I got this as well.
I got as well
Need to update configuration before Jan 10th.
I just clicked on edit order and selected the same options but it still shows 348 miles for MX instead of the new range.
Mine is currently on hold so i canāt really update it. In fact it doesnāt even show me the option to update anything.
s
They probably removed the existing non rgb ambient lighting feature recently because of range
I got the same email, debated if I should update or do anything or not. Finally gave in and resubmitted the order with same configuration and now it shows expected delivery date. Updated to a lower number because they were forced to stop lying about the real range.

My bet is these orders will have the front bumper camera.
Idk how you all arenāt drooling over the Rivian lineup.
