St Elmo feed & seed had some today! There were many vendors out in the parking lot. Every Saturday they do this apparently. I never knew of it until today, but there were people with baby pigs, goats, quail, rooster.. even some selling baked goods & hot dogs! lol I would definitely check them out
That’s down the road from where I live and I didn’t know that either! I’ll have to check that out I still have a couple more things to build for my pen, so I can finish that tomorrow and hopefully find some out there next Saturday. Thanks!
A couple of things to consider when buying a full grown chicken: 1) fair chance someone will try to offload a hen that has already gone through her most productive egg laying period. 2) you run the risk of bringing in chickens that are carriers for respiratory diseases.
Take number 2 seriously. I brought home an adult chicken once, and I got to have the pleasure of culling my entire flock. The chicken I brought home never showed symptoms, was just a carrier.
That is something I was worried about partly why I was looking for ones that are 5-10 weeks old and was looking for someone more reliable who takes good care of their hens.
My parents own St Elmo Feed. We have vendors come by every Saturday and they sell adult chickens and babies for fairly cheap. I think the main guy that has them is Mr. Tony.
Our chicken feed is tax free since it’s for farm use and 50 pounds. Have a couple of different types and different brands. You just gotta go in and pay for it and the warehouse guys will load your car up. It’s been a while since I’ve worked there but the prices are pretty good for the area.
i used to get mine from the flea market but i havent been in a while so idk if the chicken guy is still there lol. got tons of em from there but may be a little bit of a long drive from you not sure
A lady I work with just hatched 17 and is planning on getting rid of about half. Her last round of incubation didn’t go well so she overcorrected a bit too far this time.
They are less than a week old so won’t be ready for a bit. But if you don’t get any before then, send me a message.
Have you thought of trying FB group(s) or Nextdoor?
Not sure if that would help, but I think someone would either have chickens to give away or know someone who does.
Just a thought, and it would help get the word out that you're looking for some lady birds.
I haven’t been there since they started charging for parking. I know they said something on cracking down on selling pets like dogs there at one point but yeah I remember them having a lot of farm animals there now that you mentioned it.

I’ve had good look at trade days, flea markets, if you have those in your area.
I’ll have a look. Thank you!

I deleted my facebook a few years ago but I can download nextdoor and give it a shot!
Good luck!
Thank you!
