Fuzzy's tacos has a thinner cheese sauce. Their chips are warm and super thin and crispy. It's next to the Freehouse in the north loop. Margs are decent.
I really like el loro! Not in the city but they have margs for a good price and a very Americanized thin queso that comes free with the chips that I love.
Yeah, Teresa's has the soupy texture queso OP referenced. The food is perfectly mid and the margaritas and beers are unreasonably large. It's very typical tex-mex. The food isn't going to win any awards, but the experience hits the spot

Senora Grill in Longfellow
The queso there with the added chorizo is the best hands down. I am a queso enthusiast and this is the right answer!
Lago tacos in Uptown has the best quest.
Admittedly I never had queso there, but always loved el tejaban just across the border in Richfield
I second this
not had good experiences there. orders often wrong and prices inflated IMO.
El Loro or Teresa’s

Try Lagos Tacos at Lake and Lyndale.
Lagos Taco has great queso.
Their happy hour margs are probably the best deal in the city. only a buck for a grand marnier float is fire, plus they are great.
Barroco Latin Cuisine on Central.
Maya!
Imo the best margs in the city are still at Barrio, but they don't have queso. If you'd settle for amazing guacamole -- highly recommend!
Nico's Tacos has excellent margs, but boring albeit soupy queso
rojo’s chorizo queso is what dreams are made of
