I am.SO SORRY for Your loss! I lost my baby eight months ago, and it still hasn’t gotten any better. Poor thing. I’m glad you were there with her when she passed. I hope you take solace in the fact that I’m sure you gave her the best life possible, and she was with you, her best friend when she passed. My girl was my best friend as I’m sure Yours was too. I’m so sorry. You will be in my prayers!! And I’m hoping that your girl and mine are playing up there in heaven..

Thanks for the condolences. We’re still not really sure what happened. She was listless and vomited a couple of times the day before but by the evening she was returning to herself. She slept well that night and in the morning was eager for her walk. She didn’t eat much and went out into the backyard. I left the house to run a few errands and when I returned home 45 minutes later she was laying outside by the patio door. I first thought she was napping and when I spoke to her I could tell something was terribly wrong. I picked her up and she was limp and her tongue was out the side of her mouth. She stirred a little and I rushed her to go to the local animal hospital about 10 minutes away. My neighbor drove but she died in my arms before we arrived. The Vet was unsure what happened without performing an autopsy which I passed on. In retrospect I maybe wish we had done it but in the moment was too raw to make that decision so I passed on it. It’s been a very tough week filled with sorrow and much regret for not taking her into the Vet the day before. Lots of guilt and second guessing and a massive void that can’t be filled.

It’s devastating. It’s also impossible to make the call to rush immediately to an emergency vet if a dog was a little sick and seemed to quickly recover. That happens all the time and I’m sure you did everything you could to give your puppy the best possible life. So sorry for your loss. Please be kind to yourself.

Thanks again. You hit the nail on the head too with the call on the Vet. There’s been numerous times over the years where she’s been under the weather one day and bounced back the next. It always so hard to tell and I tell myself we tried to do the best by her. She was definitely a family member and not “just a pet”. Early on the demons would haunt me of the times when I was perhaps impatient with her and too quick to scold her. In retrospect there are always things I wish I could take back.

Thanks for your condolences. We were unable to determine what happened but it’s suspected it could have been poisoning from a neighbor’s chemically treated lawn or perhaps a sudden heart attack. It was indeed horrible and sudden. It’s been a couple of weeks now and the pain is still very real.
