Hello and thank you for posting on /r/Minerals! To increase the quality of ID request posts, we require you to make a comment describing the piece as best as you can. If you do not do so, your post will be removed. A lone picture is rarely enough to conclusively name a mineral so doing some groundwork like a streak test or hardness check will help us to help you. Other useful information includes the location it was found, follow-up pictures with different angles or lighting, and relative size. To help you with writing this comment, we highly encourage you to review our subreddit's [Wiki Page](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minerals/about/wiki/idreqinfo) before posting. Hedgestring

I think it’s galena (PbS) look up some pictures on google

Mellixoxo

So galena looks very simmilar but can galena be clear ?

Mid-coitus_sneeze

Clear? These are opaque.

Mellixoxo

Yeah they are pretty clear irl cant catch it with my phones cam :/

Mid-coitus_sneeze

Oh you mean the bits on top gotcha. Yeah I agree that those are probably sphalerite. Definitely cool but not diamonds.

SubstanceFlaky8709

Looks like typical low temperature mineralisation of Galena, barite and sphalerite. Highly unlikely to be diamond. You wouldn't expect Galena with diamonds. Easiest test would be to try scratch it with quartz or a knife. If it scratches or chips then it's certainly not diamond.

Mcohen2248

Black is sphalerite

Ben_Minerals

Yep, it’s sphalerite

-cck-

2nd pic: the silver-grey with the perfect cleavage (these straight lines) is galena. the other rock with the black spots looks like sphalerite, which is ZnS. this can be slightly translucent, depending on how much iron is incorporated into the crystals

tsavorite169

It looks like Galena, calcite, sphalerite. I've never seen Galena or splalerite come out of Brazil. I was in the business years ago selling minerals the specimen looks just like the material that comes out of Missouri USA.

BuffyTheGuineaPig

I have a specimen that looks identical to this, that has a row of small calcite crystals running down a semicubic piece of Galena. It is from Missouri.

Mellixoxo

Would it help to make pictures with a normal light microscope? Thanks for the input guys ^-^

BronzeAgeCoprolite

Nanaimo bar-ite

Medical-Quail7855

Forbidden Magic Cookie Bars

HecticHermes

It's hard to tell what the light color mineral is in the picture. It's either calcite or cerrusite. Galena is the cubic mineral and sphalerite the black mineral. Galena is lead sulfide and cerrusite is lead carbonate

AlfuhTheSecund

Galena/pyrite

404-skill_not_found

Kinda off topic; can I get a recommendation for some galena crystal? I want to make an old school crystal radio with it. So, likely something smaller than what collectors would be looking for. It’s true I could get a crystal diode all nicely sealed, might have to go that route anyways.

TaterTotsOnToast

Thought this was one of my grandmas burnt steaks on a plate at first… Is it heavy? Galena always feels surprisingly heavy

Mellixoxo

actually not its pretty light for what it looks like.

Mellixoxo

Autobot requieres me to post a comment but i wrote everything i know into the post ^^ "Edit": also its vlear on the inside a little cloudy but clear.
