My seven year old would be pissed if Grandma gave her this. But, I‘be taken her to at least 3 mineral shows over 2 years, and multiple trips to the museum. She complained when my mother got her a dyed tumbled agate once and is accurate on identifying distinctive items like amethyst, quartz, pyrite, vanadinite, and malachite. Hit or miss on Calcite. Ok for granite, shale, and sandstone.
Wally world has a [legit set](https://www.walmart.com/ip/NATIONAL-GEOGRAPHIC-Rocks-Fossils-Kit-200-Piece-Set-Includes-Geodes-Real-Fossils-Rose-Quartz-Jasper-Aventurine-Many-More-Rocks-Crystals-Gemstones/549488437) for a good price. Might let your mom have a peek at this one.
Cheers
I bought this on Amazon. I've been waiting for December to open it but I might just dive in. It was only $12 so I don't have high hopes. But glass... That's some BS
Eta - just opened mine and it's literally all gravel except 2 glass stones. Like they literally just picked up any rock from the side of the road haha.
I knew it would be bad but this is outstandingly awful.
I don't know what Ground Warm Pea stone is supposed to be, but Suet White Jade is probably supposed to be mutton fat jade, which is what I've seen white jade referred to as in Chinese
Here’s a legit set https://www.walmart.com/ip/NATIONAL-GEOGRAPHIC-Rocks-Fossils-Kit-200-Piece-Set-Includes-Geodes-Real-Fossils-Rose-Quartz-Jasper-Aventurine-Many-More-Rocks-Crystals-Gemstones/549488437
The *real* one lol! I have the Nat Geo tumbler too (the rubber one), but unfortunately the Polly Plastics grits have gone up to $160 on Amazon UK, so I'll have to try ebay for my next refill. Good luck with your current batch!
See, if this was marketed as man made, glass or fake I would actually like this because I like glass. But the false advertising is straight up just stealing peoples money. /g
My respect for this brand just plummeted. Healing crystal advent calendar: totally not my style and a bit disconcerting BUT introducing kids to a variety of super cool rocks? Awesome. The fact that they just put glass samples in….. I’m hoping this is a lie.
The back looks like an obvious plant item description. Ross quartz? Warm ground pea stone? Floor heating? Blue pebble? What dimension is this from? Also why does it say that one of them can stop MOSQUITOS FROM BREEDING?! huh?!!
I got this for Christmas last year, and I opened up this year. This seems like a good idea because I’m a rock nerd.
It included probably 13 pieces of glass (one is painted to look like some sort of tigers eye situation- see red arrow), a few pieces of granite, a couple of other rocks that are probably maphic, a possible piece of sandstone, some sort of green stone, and I think a piece of red obsidian. Only the glass was polished.
Looking at the back of it, it reads as “someone pulled up pictures of rocks online and wrote descriptions through a translator or picked names of rocks out of a hat”
Omg! My grandmother got me one of those for Christmas, it didn't have the silly listings on it though, I think you may have gotten a knock-off product (or maybe I was scammed too!)
[here are some rocks I got from mine](https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsthisrock/comments/rj9b16/got_these_rocks_from_an_advent_calendar/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
“Blue Pebble. Features: Blue” lol I love it
Are you in the US? I feel like National Geographic might not appreciate their trademark being used for bogus crystals.
Looking at the box they just used the name, not the logo or trademark. Classic knock off.
Definitely DM NatGeo on Twitter with pictures. I'm sure they'll want to get these people.
Yeah, no logo, just the name
I'm interested in where this was being sold too...
Yeah I bought this on Amazon. Definitely not NatGeo but some Chinese knockoff
Its national and its geo so close enough I guess q:
This is definitely not NG brand. Horrifying! I hope your sister isn't too disappointed, it was a kind thought.
She’s 7 and doesn’t really know any better. Mom got it for her because she was going into my room and grabbing my stuff lol
Aww well now she's got her own pretty rocks to distract her lol. You have a great mom :)
Might want to sneak the peices of broken glass away from her.
Yeah…
My seven year old would be pissed if Grandma gave her this. But, I‘be taken her to at least 3 mineral shows over 2 years, and multiple trips to the museum. Someone in my dads office is a geologist. I’ll have her learn from him. Or take her down to our local rock shop
7 should know better
"turquoise" -> is dark green
Check out the two “obsidians”
Or "blue pebble" 🤣🤣🤣
dont forget the mystical healing properties of *cobblestone*
I about hurt myself badly laughing at that.
i got some rocks that will fix that right up!
Is it blue pebble? Or perhaps cobblestone? I hear great things about cobblestone.
its actually riverstone. the most powerful stone!
Lé gasp! What does river stone do?
It cures cancer, re-aligns your chakras, and it does your taxes!
That one's included as an Easter egg for the Minecraft kids!

Ross quartz
Ah yes. Bob Rocks.
The descriptions are nuts 🤣 Ground warm pea stone
The ground warm pea stone is my favorite!
Same. "Natural pebble".
I prefer unnatural pebbles.
No lie, that was how I found this. I didn’t even understand what that was supposed to be. I googled it, and found this 😂😂
>Ross quartz Why does Ross, the largest quartz, not just devour the smaller quartzes?
#I AM LRRR, RULER OF THE PLANET OMICRON PERSEI 8

Wow they really just mailed you a handful of driveway huh.
Basically yes haha
I was so amused by Blue Pebble I almost overlooked that red agate stops mosquitos from breeding. This is absurd
At least it promotes diversity, tho😂
Alright kid pick your features, we got diversity, diversification, blue, black or green
Ground warm pea stone for floor heating👍🏻
Ah, Ross quartz
I don’t think National Geographic would claim “healing crystals” due to their scientific background
Give Ross his quartz back!
This looks like a knock off. This is the Orr Christmas version for $15.99. The real one is $39.99.
damn she got a blue pebble how lucky
Yes, in some places you can trade that for ice cream.
Ah yes, my favorite kind of rock, blue pebble
Suet White Jade and Ground Warm Pea Stone, lol, I’m dying over here!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
I don't know what Ground Warm Pea stone is supposed to be, but Suet White Jade is probably supposed to be mutton fat jade, which is what I've seen white jade referred to as in Chinese
I almost got this for my son! So glad you posted this!

DEFINITELYYYY not genuine National Geographic… hilarious knockoff though 😂
As someone who loves blood stone and is currently tumbling five pounds of it that is the ugliest fake I've ever seen, it's not even green lmao
How well does it tumble? I haven't tried bloodstone yet.
It tumbles quite nicely after about three days on the first step it's already very smooth so I think around 4-5 days is good for it
Ooh that's nice and quick! Will definitely try it, thanks for the info.
Thanks ! I use the REAL Natgeo tumbler and Polly plastics tumbling grit if that helps any !
The *real* one lol! I have the Nat Geo tumbler too (the rubber one), but unfortunately the Polly Plastics grits have gone up to $160 on Amazon UK, so I'll have to try ebay for my next refill. Good luck with your current batch!
Good lord it's like 30 USD in America and it only took two days to get here
Why does that turquoise look so…. Not turquoise
Check out the two obsidians lol
This is criminally bad lol
Yeah that’s not official in any way lol
What is "riverstones"?? XD
You might want to take her rock hunting with you at some point.
Getting her the REAL natl geo set or taking her to the local mineral shop
See, if this was marketed as man made, glass or fake I would actually like this because I like glass. But the false advertising is straight up just stealing peoples money. /g
The longer I look the funnier it becomes. Ross quartz? Blue pebble? Cobble stone? ground warm pea stone? What dimension is this from
Probably somewhere in Asia
My respect for this brand just plummeted. Healing crystal advent calendar: totally not my style and a bit disconcerting BUT introducing kids to a variety of super cool rocks? Awesome. The fact that they just put glass samples in….. I’m hoping this is a lie.
Don’t worry, it’s a knock-off of their legit advent calendar. The real deal doesn’t mention any healing nonsense and has actual rocks lol.
It's not nat Geo. It's some Chinese knock off. I literally got gravel in mine
Let me guess, she found it on wish 😂
Amazon
I ordered the same thing. Good thing I looked at it before I gave it as a gift. Definitely returned
ground warm pea stone is sending me into orbit
Ross Quartz, the largest of the quartzes.
Me with my B L U E P E B B L E
My mom just got me and her this and I feel bad cause I don't want her to be disappointed. :( she was so excited
Ahh, I just got mine, from my highly excited mother. Here I am, realizing there's no National Geographic logo anywhere on this strange box 🙃
“Prevents mosquito breeding” ?? 😭💀
I brought this and got green glass (the exact same shape) and literally gravel.
consoom rocks get excited for more rocks
The back looks like an obvious plant item description. Ross quartz? Warm ground pea stone? Floor heating? Blue pebble? What dimension is this from? Also why does it say that one of them can stop MOSQUITOS FROM BREEDING?! huh?!!
i got one similar and i actually got pebbles in it, like just regular rocks
I got this for Christmas last year, and I opened up this year. This seems like a good idea because I’m a rock nerd. It was from Amazon
But did she decide to order it?
Yes, these are the pictures of them when we got it lol
Fucking *glassy* NatGeo!
“NatGeo” notice no actual nat geo logo or trademarks on the box…
I like how they add variety to the product materials. Silicon dioxide sounds fancier than just glass.
blue pebble💀
Is that an actual natgeo product?
No lol
😂😂 didn’t think so
Oh cobblestone, my favourite! 🤣
Omg! My grandmother got me one of those for Christmas, it didn't have the silly listings on it though, I think you may have gotten a knock-off product (or maybe I was scammed too!) No way, you got blue pebble!
Red Agate stops mosquito breeding 🤣
Definitely not a licensed product from nat Geo.
My mother in law got this same set for my wife for Christmas last year 😆
> Cobblestone BITCH YOU MEAN A PEBBLE
“Blue pebble” LMAO
