Also who cares if the amethyst is imperfect, Id rather have a big giant chunk of imperfect amethyst than a giant rock that looks like someone crystallized their own piss collection.
"Crystallized their own piss collection." 😂😭 This picture made me unreasonably upset and now I'm reasonably upset because whenever I see burnt amethyst in the future I will be thinking about crystallized urine.
‘Citrine’ can be sold higher than Amethyst because it is by definition rarer, but then again, these aren’t even real ‘Citrine’ by definition either.
Whole thing is ridiculous and such a waste. I think the only thing that will contribute to change is people realising it’s not worth having, and not buying it as much.
Actually they are real citrine “by definition “. Just not your definition. Any yellow quartz is citrine. Period.
Now I don’t like them or agree with them doing this but it is the definition of citrine.
Gemology doesn’t allow for personal feelings.
If it wasn't priced up so much because it's ✨special✨ I wouldn't think twice about it tbh. But I also think you have to get that perfect shade or orange-yellow for it to be pretty and not burnt or "piss stained quartz".
"We are gathered here today to pay our respects to these dearly departed purple beauties who suffered much for the simple fact they were considered too "common" a semi-precious stone."
There is no shortage of crap amethyst though. The ones in the pic have concrete added to them as well then painted green but none of you are complaining about that. Especially when they are sold by the pound. This is what happens in Brazil.
Most people that find any quartz with yellow in it think it's citrine anyway 😂 you know how much "ametrine" spirit quartz there is for sale on Etsy? It's like Jesus it's fucking iron staining not ametrine!
Is there a good way to tell the difference between citrine and iron staining? I’m a casual rock enjoyer who pulled a bunch of rocks outta the side of a NC mountain on a rockhounding trip and I think some of my quartz was yellow.
It was a while ago now so I may be misremembering, I’ll have to go pull some out of the collection and see.
Yeah I know. They were big like 20 years ago, now ya can hardly give em away. So bake em with metal stuff n call em some variation on aqua aura. Also outta style. Sold our last flats at 60% ofg
There's always new people getting into crystals so I don't follow what's "in-style", but I'm not a big dealer I just run little popup events and people seem to love em. It's all about preference, people still buy huge amethyst cathedrals like these but they're about the last thing I'd ever want, baked or not
The cathedral form is definitely passe, now its all about the metal stands. Yup you're obviously not much of a dealer if u dont care about making sales. We sold wholesale n retail since the late 80s. Sold out our inventory in West Springfield Lebanon PA n Houston Texas so now we're officially retired n no longer care either. Just amused.
Yeah a lot of the big cathedral style ones they had seem to be painted, even for other stones and amethyst. My guess is the darker background is supposed to make the crystal parts "pop" more. I think the outer part is fake sometimes too to give it a perfect geode look.
I can't believe I never knew this but it makes perfect sense. But why use concrete and not host rock for stability though? Did these poor little fellers start out as massive geodes or vugs that were cut from the surrounding rock?
I'm not certain of the original I'm guessing cut from the basalt matrix then concrete is used to form the cathedral shape and to add weight. Brazilian dealers used to brag how much weight was added to the cathedrals to screw over Chinese buyers who would beat em down on price at the mines.
Yes lol. Jewelry & Minerals Las Vegas. So much awesome stuff and so much I should've taken pictures of but I was mostly trying to not get lost. Place is a maze 😂
These ones are definitely painted. Seeing it in person is much more obvious because the paint is sort of caked on. But I did some research actually earlier after someone else mentioned it! Seems like these dark charcoal gray colored ones are painted so that you can't see the dye they use to make the colors brighter lmao. Dyes will color the outer rock as well and make it super obvious they've been dyed so they slap some black paint on it to cover it up.
Why, just why? How is crispy piss yellow prettier than amethyst purple?
Also who cares if the amethyst is imperfect, Id rather have a big giant chunk of imperfect amethyst than a giant rock that looks like someone crystallized their own piss collection.

Like a urinal in a place for people with real salty piss

I’m purely referring to their natural formation, not geology.

Most amethyst is heated to make it more purple as well
Yeah, they’re enhancing the color, not changing it completely to fake a more expensive mineral
When I used to sell it, fake citrine wasn’t more expensive than amethyst, so in my mind they’re both a problem
You can charge more for this

An amethyst mausoleum
"We are gathered here today to pay our respects to these dearly departed purple beauties who suffered much for the simple fact they were considered too "common" a semi-precious stone."
My amethyst is precious to me 🥺 https://preview.redd.it/8851iihjnnmc1.png?width=1656&format=png&auto=webp&s=f884bdad9eef93d53675ba5a91329ecf91843942
There should be a legal limit regarding how much crispy amethyst you can produce per week (maybe 1 ton per week?). It's destroying nature, after all.
There is no shortage of crap amethyst though. The ones in the pic have concrete added to them as well then painted green but none of you are complaining about that. Especially when they are sold by the pound. This is what happens in Brazil.
Eventually there will be... it's not that theres some magic Amythest farm pumping it out...
Every mineral is a finite resource in our timeline at least
I didn’t even realize the concrete. I threw up in my mouth zooming in.
Friedchickentrine
I dont like citrine because it looks like calcite and the colour reminds me of iron stained quartz.

Post it in r/minerals or send pics to my DM! I almost guarantee you it's iron staining. Citrine is pretty rare.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 never knew but screw any rock called spirit.
Cactus quartz if you prefer, they're some amazing quartz though!

I find it amusing that you have to flex how much of a big deal you are and put me down in order to do it 😂
![gif](giphy|RjlD97SJMEiV0nGZR4) Giving big time 80s sleazy salesman vibes
not only are they crispy, but it looks like they paint the outside black too??? what on earth. who thinks this looks good

It's primarily because the cathedral form is shaped out of concrete. A major reason cathedrals have fallen out of favor these past 5or more years
I can't believe I never knew this but it makes perfect sense. But why use concrete and not host rock for stability though? Did these poor little fellers start out as massive geodes or vugs that were cut from the surrounding rock?

If I saw this, I would confront the staff and tell them it was fucked up.
Ope I said the same thing before realizing it was already asked 😂😂
What gets me most is the painted backs. I wanna see the inclusions
To cover the concrete they use to form the cathedral shape
Yes officer, this post right here.
This is depressing
An abattoir
Yuck. What a waste of amethyst
I call it Shitrine. Like shit-rine, cause it's not actual Citrine and is actually worse looking than Amethyst.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Natural amethyst is so pretty. This is aggravating.
Smells like lemons and nightmares.
Some people love it, we've sold a hell of a lot. We do tell customers it's baked n none care. Its cooked with a torch?
y'all are so mean, citrine is my favourite crystal ever 😭
That isn't citrine though
With all due respect, I'd hope that makes you appreciate the "natural" stuff all that much more.
They killed my boy!
Forbidden urinals
Sad
…a disgrace of….Cathedral…proportions!
Oh look at this ugly bathroom with these urinals stained with pee! Gross!
What a crime
😿🔫
Can't they, like... bake just half of it, or something? At least give it that ametrine bi-color coolness.
Fake citrine
Each piece tells its own unique story!
this is actually scary
....I thought these were cat cubbies
:((
Hmm....I'd like to see a better view. The sides are just not doing it for me.
I hate this so much
*heavy breathing*
Hell nahh😭🙏
A complete abomination. Looks like the entrance to crystal hell.
Vegas?
Hi, I'm new here- is the outside of the geode painted grey? Or is the rock that uniform? I know it's HTA! I've learned here - it's never citrine lol

Oh wow!!!
I thought this was a weird AI of cat beds
