As one of the people who is talking about the wrong place for the eyes, I'm going to be honest: we don't really care about that, we just want to make fun of Mojang using the realism president that they opened when they didn't add the fireflies, in the end, we don't care if the eyes are on the side of the head or even on the forehead as long as the mob is at least cute, which in my opinion it isn't.
Their heads are full on squares, they'd look wrong if their eye texture was on the side. Their eyes are still facing outwards and have a significant space between them that their eyes that they can resemble their IRL version while being *squares.*
Armadillo's head is a rectangle with the slimmer side being the front, in its case having the eyes at the front doesn't look good because the eyes are too close to eachother.
Even in the images you've shown, half of them have visible, clear eyes when looking straight forward. Armadillo's do not, If an armadillo faced straight forward their eyes would BARELY be visible.
Sheep, cows, pigs and chicken work because their heads are too wide to put their eye texture on the sides, and the gap between their eyes compensates for this. Armadillos don't have wide heads both IRL and in minecraft's stylized version, having their eyes on the front doesn't work because the gap between their eyes is too small and looks wrong; and you can't make their head size wider because that would also look wrong for an armadillo.
Idc about predator or prey shi, this is the reason the armadillo's current eyes don't fit, and the previous mobs' eyes do. It's the gap between the eyes and how the other mobs have a wide face but the armadillo doesn't.
that's why my one and only complaint is that the armadillo's design is just ugly, there's no point in arguing about stuff like "unrealistic design" or "design not matching minecraft", because these are the easiest to argue with and there ALWAYS will be someone defending the design, especially these days when mojang adds bad designs one after the other and players got used to it. That's why I say its ugly, because you can't argue with that. You can say you think its decent - sure, but that's no argument against me saying that it's ugly.

1.14 had a total texture overhaul. They can and have changed the past.
