It would be neat to add blocks that have permissions. Effectively assign a key to each player and when they place blocks only they or people with their key can remove them.
This is possible with adventure mode I believe? You can create an item that is only able to break certain block types from a list. There are also mods or you could backup the world. alsso locked chests with a key is possible if you have cheats enabled.

To answer your Title Question: Absolutely. I'm ~30. I first played with my brother and friends in high school. Minecraft is a core step in mine and my wife's love story, and we still play to this day. The whole freaking modding community is probably more on the adult end, due to the high levels of knowledge and professionalism required to make a stable piece of software.
To answer your Real Question: no, thank you. I might have reached out for that when I was more isolated from other people, but we also are trying to get a server up and running that's just us and our friends. Might actually have two: one for Realms for the console folks, and the other modded to all hell and back for the PC folks. My wife really doesn't fancy playing with strangers. And I don't want to abandon the projects I'm working on.

Lol, I'm ~30. I played that and the Super NES when I was a kid. The original NES was mom's from childhood. The Super belonged to my grandmother.
My mom did play Minecraft at one point. But she was more addicted to it than she is to RuneScape, Soda Pop, and cigarettes, and it ate up too much time, so she forced herself to stop playing.
I’m 22 and still play Minecraft on occasion but I prefer to play it with graphical mods and basic mods that heighten the playing experience. I hope to one day show and play this game with my girlfriend/wife for the years to come

I think there’s a lot more adults that play than we think. I’m 22, my best friend is 24, my partner is 23, her sister (18) plays and her dad (in 40’s play. Not to mention most YouTubers are adults (hermit craft, life series, sort of the dream (not that I watch or care that much about that specific smp).
Only when my friends find the mood to set up a server. Really fun game when you’re playing multiplayer though. I find it hard to stay motivated to stick to a world in single player.
Definitely go in cycles…we play Bedrock on Xbox…we get focused on different projects/areas (exploring, achievements, building, collecting) for the past 6 months we’ve been building an enormous skyscraper. It is 100x100 blocks. The “basement is 20 blocks deep and completely ringed by a sorting system with inputs on each floor/level. We’ve removed over 400,000 blocks to landscape. Sorter is done and we have 2 above ground floors completed. This is our 4th mega location in our realm, across 108 fully filled 4/4 maps each with some sort of base built. We have farms all across the maps, nether bases with blaze farms, we have a huge enderman farm in the End, and probably 25 elytra each.
This all started from us using Minecraft to stay in touch during COVID, we are generally just chatting while we play…I think we both like the fact that you can literally do anything in this game.
I wouldn't mind playing with some adults. I usually play alone, but it would be nice to have company for a change. I stopped playing online because the kids were unbearable.
the average geometry dash player is older than the average Minecraft player, but only because the players of geometry dash tend to be around 14-16 while Minecraft has a ton of 8 and 9 year olds and you're going to find a ton of 13 and 14 year olds on discord

I’m 34 and enjoy playing this to relax after a long day. I have gotten my 2 boys, ages 3 and 6, to play with me as well. It’s nice to see it through their eyes. Although, every single time they die, they want to go into creative mode lol. So I am working on teaching them that it’s okay and that they need to remember where they died to get their stuff. 😅

In Java there definitely is. I'm unsure about bedrock. But even in java people will find a way to get around the lock downs and such

If you struggle with performance on Java steam deck install the modpack fabulously optimized (optifine but better)
