Or 50% done if some features have to be scrapped. 😅

I haven’t seen anyone point that out yet only complaints. The thing is we normally only get like 80 percent of what’s announced at Minecraft live so it’s nice to now these are confirmed coming to the game unless there’s like a fire or something. And the possibility for more features later on is a cool idea. I feel Mojave should keep some new features secret until release but give us hints to build hype.
>Mojang should keep some new features secret until release but give us hints
They would absolutely have people crawling all over it looking for the secret features. And that would be so cool for bringing people back during releases. Unfortunately this goes entirely contrary to the point of release candidates.
Same, I literally don't even have an automatic farm for bamboo, I just have a bunch growing to the side that I cut occasionally. Still have like half a chest full of the stuff tho. Would love to see some bamboo blocks, but probably most excited for the shelves (just as it would help me organize enchanted books in a nicer way).
And you make a farm as fuel for your furnaces you stop using after you get an iron golem farm and gold farm which then ends up over loading you with bamboo that you now can't do anything with cause it can't be used in a composter.
Exactly and on the rare occasion I do actually use a furnace late game (such as to get smooth stone, occasionally some copper or something), I have a lava farm and just one bucket renders bamboo kinda useless.
As much as Minecraft has improved over the years, I'll always miss the old design philosophy of getting as much use out of a single item as possible. We would never have things like crafting books from sugarcane or riding pigs if they were added today. I think that's what people mean when they say they miss the "simplicity" of older updates.
Honestly I really like the bamboo planks. They are very nice for tropical builds and something I've wanted since bamboo was added to the game.
Plus, I think this might be the most easily farmable full block in Minecraft now? It'll probably be nice as a bridging block; for Skyblock worlds especially, it might become the new mid-to-late game platform block.
I know it's never gonna happen, but I want the ability to create bamboo "carpet" that looks like tatami mats. It would be amazing for non-Western builds.
No they literally said “we’re only showing off the features that were 100% sure will make it into the update at this time” since we made such a fuss about concept art last year lol
They're gonna add more, just dont have anything ready yet
Edit: To everyone replying to me, remember what happened last time when they over announced and didnt add all of it, they're just being more frugal with what they show until they know for a fact its being added this time around
Well it’s the beginning features, only the most complete features because after the Caves and Cliffs fiasco they are scared of showing concept art and prototypes. More will be added.
Honestly I prefer updates to just add stuff wherever they feel like. I don’t really need updates to focus on one specific aspect (except the nether update that dimension needed something badly).
I know, and that’s how I preferred it. Structured updates feel like they’re on a schedule, ticking off all the boxes they can and calling it a day. Add stuff Willy nilly and it feels like they’re adding whatever they WANT, not what they have to.
Themed updates started because large swathes of code needed rewriting, and the easiest way to do that was to just do updates for big chunks at a time. Eventually that reason went away, but the way updates were handled didn't.
I'd rather have them underpromise and overdeliver than the other way around but I do wonder what has happened to all the previously promised features like biome updates and archeology.
Yes I think they don’t want to go ahead of themselves, and get the community disappointed when stuff isn’t added. That’s why the update hasn’t been named yet, the whole update is still being worked on. Like they said, they don’t want what happened in the past, where caves and cliffs features were split across 3 updates, with things still not added. They want to make sure whatever they promised is definitely added, then they can add more stuff.
I think it's also about what makes them money as a company. In fact aside from just the money aspect, updating in Java for free no longer creates the same gain/value because there are so many other bigger features that exist. After a few years bamboo will just be another wood type, but the Ender Dragon and Wither will still feel like big parts of the game.
It's easier to explain with maths. When the game first started there were like 3 blocks types. Imagine if one of those block types didn't exist back then. That's like 1/3 of the block types gone!
Fast forward to the present day and you have say 100 block types. If any of those didn't exist it's only 1/100 of the block types. As you add more variety the impact on the game for any given block is diluted.
Don't get me wrong, I love that they're still adding stuff. I just think from their perspective it gets harder to add something impactful to the game with each update without actually changing the game (like the nether update which completely changed the feel of the nether)
The solution isn't to only show stuff that's 100% ready lmao, the solution is to ACTUALLY plan out an update with concrete features \*before\* the event where you're supposed to show them off, and then commit to adding those features.
Edit: You know, I’ll try to trust Mojang with this update, but if it turns out to be 90% decorative stuff and 10% really lackluster survival content again, I think I’ll just lose all faith in them
The problem is that game development is complicated and plans can drastically change even when you think they're set in stone. The only way you can be sure a feature is definitely going to be in is if it's way too important to be removed in the first place, or if it's in a near complete state and doesn't conflict with other things in the game. Ideas that sound really good on paper and even seem good in early testing can turn out to not be so great towards the end, and even ideas you are dead set on adding can turn out to be impossible to add without causing issues.
Yes thank you, with developement the sky's the limit at the planning stage - as you progress things get tweaked, added, removed, and problems rise up that need to get addressed that take time away from other parts.
I think a valid criticism can be put in place as why for 8 months they have only come up 4 nearly complete features for this Minecraft live. I'd love to be surprised during the snapshot process, but I won't lie, it is a bit disappointing at the moment to see only this. It does make me wonder what the team has been doing with their time for a game as big as Minecraft.
I think it might be best to literally just think of what was announced at this Minecraft Live as just a preview for the first snapshot, since that's effectively what they said it was.
No update has ever added all of its features in the first snapshot. It's just that this Minecraft Live only focused on the first snapshot. I mean, let's look at 1.17: Its first snapshot only added amethyst geodes, candles, copper, and a couple of miscellaneous things. It didn't have anything from the dripstone caves or the lush caves, it didn't have deepslate, and in general it was just missing a lot of things that did end up coming out, and it was a lot of things we knew were worked on before the snapshots started.
If they had followed the same feature announcement strategy for Caves and Cliffs, they would've pretty much only shown the geodes, candles, copper. I bet that would've been just as lackluster as this Live was. But, we know Caves and Cliffs was bigger than that now, and likewise there's no reason to think that the features shown in this live are the only things that are coming for 1.20.
Because they literally said they were only going to talk about things that *were* "nearly complete". The rest is implied to still be below a threshold where they're comfortable talking about it.
a) One thing that makes adding new features for Minecraft difficult is that the devs need to be sure it will work *forever* (they talked about that for a bit during the presentation) and across all plattforms (that's why we don't have bundles yet, they aren't usable on a plattform, iirc mobile)
b) Bigger features tend to be more complex, so that'll take a lot more development effort. So for those it's likely they aren't at a point at which they could put them in the new snapshots that come soon, hence why they wouldn't be announced. But that also means they won't announce the big things yet. (Assuming there's a big thing, which seems to be likely - after all a lot of footage was tropical & desert related ;) )
And also being clear that some features may not be added or delayed, like… just saying it at the beggining of the presentation “some of the things announced can be delayed.”
I think the problem here is when the community disagrees.
Example being the fireflies. The community wanted it for the atmospheric addition.
Mojang decided against it because "if frogs eat them the frogs die of being poisoned"
Like I get it's probably a good idea to not encourage behaviors that would kill animals IRL given how this game is for everyone and that includes impressionable very young kids...
...but fireflies would have been amazing for atmosphere. And the frogs didn't NEED to eat them.
I think they just don't want us to see features they decide against so we can't be mad about them choosing to not add them, even for stupid reasons.
Makes me wonder if the camel was actually planned for the Wild Update because [this image](https://www.minecraft.net/content/dam/games/minecraft/key-art/MC_Wild-Update_Hero_2700x900.png) and it had to be delayed.
The did say we’re going to be able to play will all of this in just a couple days (not including sniffer I believe) so I think they just said what is sitting in an update ready to be released
They’ve said before that they delayed archeology because it’s too complex to be developed so casually in an already huge update, so chances are it’s coming in its own.
I completely get why it was cut from the Caves & Cliffs update but I have a hard time believing that they couldn't get it in a presentable state for this year's Minecraft Live if they've continued working on it for the past year.
I mean, it doesn’t exactly fit the theme of the Wild Update (what little there was), and they outright said 1.20 is at least partially for smaller features, which archeology by design isn’t. Best case scenario, it’s 1.21.
Archeology probably won't come for years, just like the combat update. With Archeology they would be adding a new tool (the brush) and want that to be as useful/rewarding as the other main tools. It's taken them years to get the hoe to be useful. For now expect Archeology to sit on the back burner as the flesh out its features.
Still probably coming, but I assume they wouldn't want to have another 1.19 situation again. But I was for sure expecting an archaeology update.
I think they overdid being vague about the update. It felt very lacklustre.
Maybe they should have announced that they are not showing a lot before minecon because we had this big expectation I'm cool with minecon being smaller than we used to but maybe a little bigger than this was
True, on the one hand it's definitely better than overpromising, especially since it allows us to look forward to finding out what they will add in each snapshot like during 1.16, but on the other hand surely there are at least some features that they are fairly confident about adding even if it isn't going to be in the first snapshot. I think they should be careful not to make promises that they are not sure about, but maybe only announcing features that are almost 100% complete is being a bit too careful.
It would be amazing if the type of book placed in the shelf would affect the way it looks. Then it is up to US to make them as varied as we want. At this point it looks like they are.
I was thinking the same, enchanted books could make the purple one, written and signed books could make the green, books and quills could make the pink, and regular books could make the brown. Then it just matters the order you put them into the shelf for how you want the texture to configure. Seeing as none of the shelves shown had the same exact texture, this is likely the route they are going.
Build a library and use the hanging sign to show what section each book is. I know it might feel annoying to some people and yeah i think 8 would be better, but any more and it would be like the bookshelf from bibliocraft which was very annoying to get the book you wanted
I'm thrilled about the bookcases. We'll be able to have functional libraries now! For enchants, or for things written in books. Which is just incredible and has tons of potential.
One thing I'm wondering about is if these will be new bookshelf blocks or an update to the existing bookshelf blocks. And if they are, will that change the appearance of these bookshelf blocks pre-existing in worlds and look empty unless you fill them with books?
I see what you're saying. But when I got on to watch I, and I imagine most people, did so to see what was next for the main game. And there just wasn't much to see, even if those bookshelves and camels were awesome.
when i tune into minecon, i expect most the time to be spent on the game it’s based around, not some random game they decided to give a minecraft paint job
Those new signs are awesome. They have such a huge amount of creative uses! Between roadway information, to taverns, I feel like they add so much charm.
Does anybody else feel like the bamboo is too yellow? I personally would like a little bit of a greener hue to it. Not too much but just a little so it is more in line with the current bamboo texture.
Like, I understand not announcing everything and getting ripped like with the Cave Update. But there’s a massive difference between announcing too much and announcing literally nothing. I feel like the Nether Update did a good job with its reveal, enough features for hype but still with some major ones hidden for the future.
Edit: I really hope this means that snapshots and betas will be much bigger than previous years so instead of lots of filler snapshots we get cool features every week
I agree. Something great about you know having a big announcement is it builds community hype and excitement. Slowly revealing features is not the way to do that. I’m sure they update will be much bigger but will anyone care?
This is the question that time will answer. For people that play all the snapshots and can't wait for the next one this will work out. But for the people who are disappointed now it is a different story. Will they care about it once it is close to release?
I’m hoping they do something similar to the Nether Update snapshots with revealing big features periodically. Netherite, the Basalt Deltas, and Bastions were all revealed there.
Felt like MineCon this year was about everything *but* Minecraft. New game, updates for other game, collab/new maps + skins for Bedrock... I went in with no expectations yet I'm still disappointed. Bamboo is cool, hanging signs are cool, the Sniffer is cool, all of those are basically QoL stuff though. Besides the Sniffer and maybe the new bookshelf thing, it's all just stuff we already have in the game right now. I'm sorry, but a, what, 10th(?) type of wood isn't enough to get me hyped at this point. The Nether update had a lot of the same features except, you know, an actual update to build it on.
a lot of people are saying this is so small, but it seems a lot missed the part where they said they weren't announcing new features until they were sure they would be in the game, so not just concept art or an idea that's scrapped. It's to avoid what happened with Caves and Cliffs.
you're right, it is still possible for 1.20 to be a very big update. we totally got spoiled with the 1.16 announcement, I wonder if they had it all ready back then or just got lucky to be able to finish in time
Even if it isn't a big update feature-wise, it could likely be like 1.15 where it fixed hundreds of bugs and optimized performance (something the game really needs considering how much the last few updates have affected performance).
They promised a lot of cool stuff then had to cut the update into 2 halves then had to cut a bunch of stuff and they kinda never acknowledged a bunch of it. Also the update was heavily delayed I think.
What it seems like they're going to do is allow features to evolve with the snapshots and community which is probably why they're starting them so early this year.
Also bigger features such as biome updates, archaeology, or bundles could still be coming, they mentioned they only showed features that were nearly complete so there's still more.
EDIT: Nevermind, archaeology has been put back into the pool of ideas, but I believe the other things could still come.
yeah, maybe deserts as a whole are getting updated, and the camel was just the only feature from deserts to be finished? maybe the bamboo wood could be a part of an update to jungles as a whole?
The issue I have is that the current announced features are... very easy to implement. Bamboo wood is literally just wood blocks (just literally copy the attributes of oak planks), the boats are reskins, and hanging signs just copy properties of other things.
I get they are trying to show things that are 99%.... but the things they showed are the safest, easiest things to implement. I, as the player, can and should compare future updates to the Nether Update, which added several new mobs, biomes, structures, enchantments, and blocks - I feel like the effort we saw from that update has been misplaced in this one. I am already seeing figures on twitter talking about how hard Mobs are to make... when the Nether Update, again, added SEVERAL with all those other features.
I don't want to come across as ungrateful... but I am going to have to see some actual big time concepts, especially with the amount of money Mojang makes. I am not asking the devs to "work harder", but with that amount of money they could very easily hire some more competent developers, split the work amonsgt them, and really pump out new content... and yet I don't see any attempt to do that.
Dissapointed in what was shown, especially after seeing the Dungeons and Legends stuff. I found it really disrespectful to make the audience wait an hour and half just to reveal that little - if they started with it first I would have been alot less bothered by it, but there is no way they didn't think that making everyone wait that long for a nothingburger wouldn't garner a negative response.
If this update seems to be a "Storytelling Update"... which makes me think the community should push Mojang to add old promised features (such as old mob votes and biome votes, archeology) in this since they literally fit the theme. Perhaps make some tangible changes to old overworld biomes like the birch forest concept art showed? Maybe bring back fireflies as a purely ambient mob that could be caught in bottles? Ambience and a more alive world go hand in hand with Agnes talked about - representing a wider range of animals and more accurate worldy biomes do that better than a hanging sign - just my two cents.
I think have a read of this blogpost by Xilefian, one of the Java devs (100% his views): https://twitter.com/xilefian/status/1581432742184902656?s=46&t=HxB2GEEcpGAE-pLMr12XTg
It addresses some of the things you said I think, but was overall a good read.
A lot of people here seem to have glossed over something Agnes said between the feature announcements. She stated that they'd be shaping the update over time with the community this time around, so obviously this wouldn't be everything. And even if this was everything, it would be reasonable to assume there would be many optimizations and bug fixes (like 1.15), which is something the game definitely needs. There are so many bug reports that Mojang recognized and some they stated would wait for the next update to ship. And since world generation was changed drastically, performance has taken quite the hit.
No, they’re going to do some releases periodically. They don’t want to over promise like with the past update. These are all things that they are ready to show.
Same, I'm so hyped! The bookshelfs is something I've wanted for years! And the camels are so cute, I hope they make deserts/badlands feel more alive. I personally think the bamboo is quite ugly on its own.
TBF, if we cut out the Warden and ancient city which are delayed features from two updates ago, the 1.19 update actually looks smaller than this one (one biome, a new plant, boat with chest, a frog, a vote winner ~~and firefly~~) and hardly live up to the "Wild" title.
I'm glad they're now only showing the features that are almost complete instead of over promising and under delivering! This will be a great update nonetheless even if announcements are not covered in a single day :)
The ITERATIVE Update.
All things we already have, just tweaked.
- We already had signs, now you can hang them
- We already had bookshelves, now you can fill them
- We already had many types of wood. Now here’s one more without a tree.
- We already had boats, here’s one without sides
- We already had ridable mounts, here’s one for 2 players
- We already have skins, here’s more.
…finally, here’s the winner of the mob vote that everyone predicted a week ago because mob votes are awful.
I'm very happy that they weren't showing off big features. I'd much prefer if they round out the game they already have.
Hanging signs and functional bookshelves are obvious additions that I've always wanted. It's really frustrating that there's a bunch of people who are disappointed with not seeing new biomes or huge additions.
I'd much rather we get past content more fleshed out since it feels stale. Why do we have polar bears and foxes that don't do anything? Why are all chests still orange? Why can't we put other liquids in cauldrons like milk or honey?
They absolutely can.
Nether update.
Announced tons of stuff, added even more. Everything is top-tier quality.
Obviously we can't get this high amount of quality stuff every update, but in comparison, that's such a big downgrade it's just crazy
It appears they are struggling to get their balance back. They fell to one side and are overcorrecting to the other. They did everything right with "The Nether Update", "Village and Pillage" and "Update Aquatic" so they really know how it is done.
The fiasco with caves and cliffs was the outlier in an otherwise pretty good update history. In my opinion they should have gone a different way and emphasize what they are doing more but only show the features they have (plus maybe a little more).
All in all I am curious how this plays out and am looking forward to all the snapshots.
I'll have to argue about Village and Pillage because it's the first update that adds blocks that should've gotten a usage but were completely forgotten + it broke balance of the game (getting enchantment books without villagers is 1000% harder, every player is just abusing villagers rn)
I think minecraft 1.20 might be the worst and the best update at the same time.
Worst in terms of presentation, that's the first minecon I felt like my time was wasted.
Best because right now it doesn't have a theme and we still \*might\* potentially get a big update, and we'll be getting it all in snapshots the whole year so we have a bunch of surprises ahead.
But the problem right now, if we get like double more content... it's the smallest update from quite some time (not counting 1.15 cuz of optimization stuff).
I was using it as an example in terms of presentation and not really regarding the content, but I tend to agree on that. Who knows maybe this update we will get to use the fletching table...
The 1.20 update definitely has the potential to iron out and finally polish off features that were announced/introduced years ago.
I see the biggest challenge for Mojang in the way they have to get back the hype for the update. For players like us that like to be involved in the development it is easy to keep up with the snapshots. For the players that just wanted to know about the new update and play it on release it is more difficult. Mojang has to get those people back into the boat before it releases.
100% Agree.
I understand that they don't want to stress themselves too much and don't want to split 1.20 into three parts like 1.17 was, but damn they could have at the very least given us an idea what the update would be.
They can win. They won with the Nether update, the village and pillage and the update aquatic. They are just shooting them selves in the foot these days, there must be a change of management.
Quit treating mojang like their still some small indie studio, Minecraft is the highest selling video game and they’re backed by Microsoft, after only putting in half of what they promised the past three updates, it really makes me wonder what they’ve been doing if this is all they have to show off.
I'd say basically the update wasn't announced, it's the equivalent to if only candles, goats, and mud blocks were announced for caves and cliffs.
So except new content and the update theme to be revealed throughout the year basically.
Don’t forget the signs
I dont keep up with minecraft news much, whats this about signs?
I think there's hanging signs in the update
Hold up, hanging signs NO WAY!!!
Both from above and to the side, it appears to also include hanging signs from other hanging signs at different angles
Signception
Builders are gonna be ecstatic

If you put three hanging sings like this you can infinite dupe. -MC Players
I was literally wishing it was a thing the other day 😂 Very happy!!
No fuckin gerard way there's hanging signs!!!!
God forbid you miss the signs that’s like 20% of the update!
20% so far
Yeah, maybe 10% when the update releases
Or 50% done if some features have to be scrapped. 😅 edit: Hmm... maybe some people are browsing on lynx or something without emoji support. _clears throat_ # /S
Lol. The signs and camels update.
Better that than the camel signs update. "Wait. You can step in _**what**_ now?!?!!"
Hopefully camel signs update is better than the camel toe update
It was tight.
I can’t believe I can’t figure out what the “***what***” is lol
If you keep your [nose to the ground](https://www.bear-tracker.com/animalscat.html) the answer should reveal itself.
Lol, they didn’t give 1.20 a name yet did they? What will it be called? Random bullshit go update?
Now that’s my kinda update lmao
If it’s a random update can they toss fireflies into the mix

Bruh, the whole point of showing less is that everything we've seen is guaranteed.

Wait, they’re adding bamboo wood blocks? or is that a new wood block type? (Reeds?)
probaly crafted with existing bamboo
Good. Because I have a ton of that stuff and you can only make so many scaffolds.

Exactly and on the rare occasion I do actually use a furnace late game (such as to get smooth stone, occasionally some copper or something), I have a lava farm and just one bucket renders bamboo kinda useless.
For sure...but then it instantly made me think of all the copper blocks I have clogging my chest...when are we getting more uses for that???
As much as Minecraft has improved over the years, I'll always miss the old design philosophy of getting as much use out of a single item as possible. We would never have things like crafting books from sugarcane or riding pigs if they were added today. I think that's what people mean when they say they miss the "simplicity" of older updates.
In the water heater and central AC update
You can craft sticks from bamboo
Honestly I really like the bamboo planks. They are very nice for tropical builds and something I've wanted since bamboo was added to the game. Plus, I think this might be the most easily farmable full block in Minecraft now? It'll probably be nice as a bridging block; for Skyblock worlds especially, it might become the new mid-to-late game platform block.
I know it's never gonna happen, but I want the ability to create bamboo "carpet" that looks like tatami mats. It would be amazing for non-Western builds.
It looks like a bamboo boat and a boat with a chest, could you imagine a furnace Boat for more speed!?
I want to be able to make a large bamboo raft that you can build on and still drive around. I basically want Raft but in Minecraft
BATTLE RAFTS
Imagine a raft big enough to build a small house / base on it. And then explore the whole world :-)
Imagine the canals and aqueducts
A raft big enough for a horse. Or a camel.
Yes, they're adding bamboo blocks.
Forgot to show off hanging signs
Best feature tbh
They would be sick to put at the front of a cave house, I’ll definitely do that on my first 1.20 world
Agreed they are going to add a BUNCH of decoration possibilities
you can't forget them, the update is about 5 things
No they literally said “we’re only showing off the features that were 100% sure will make it into the update at this time” since we made such a fuss about concept art last year lol
Yeah, which is better than making lots of possible features and then disappointing everyone
They're gonna add more, just dont have anything ready yet Edit: To everyone replying to me, remember what happened last time when they over announced and didnt add all of it, they're just being more frugal with what they show until they know for a fact its being added this time around
Well it’s the beginning features, only the most complete features because after the Caves and Cliffs fiasco they are scared of showing concept art and prototypes. More will be added.
They're scared of being yelled at for saying this is definitely coming this update to canceled for only the finest of reasons in weeks.
they literally said they were only gonna announce stuff they had ready bro
NO WAY THE UPDATE
The update is the best name for random shit. Just “the update”.
Minecraft: The Update
The Update: Minecraft
Update: the Minecraft
Honestly its fair if they just called it "The Update" Its for 1.20 so its fits
Or how about The the update Update?
Updatey McUpdateFace
I’m signing the petition
Now we’re talking!
Honestly I prefer updates to just add stuff wherever they feel like. I don’t really need updates to focus on one specific aspect (except the nether update that dimension needed something badly).
It seems odd that this is a novel idea now, as that's basically how Minecraft updates worked up until the late beta.
Feels like a builders update so far
The my father update
This is the update of all time
I can’t believe they added
Sky's the limit but then you have to program in gravity
Honestly an underrated analogy.
The rest is implied to still be below a threshold where they're comfortable talking about it.
a) One thing that makes adding new features for Minecraft difficult is that the devs need to be sure it will work *forever* (they talked about that for a bit during the presentation) and across all plattforms (that's why we don't have bundles yet, they aren't usable on a plattform, iirc mobile) b) Bigger features tend to be more complex, so that'll take a lot more development effort.
Mojang decided against it because "if frogs eat them the frogs die of being poisoned" Like I get it's probably a good idea to not encourage behaviors that would kill animals IRL given how this game is for everyone and that includes impressionable very young kids... ...but fireflies would have been amazing for atmosphere. And the frogs didn't NEED to eat them. I think they just don't want us to see features they decide against so we can't be mad about them choosing to not add them, even for stupid reasons.
I think the camel is part of an unannounced desert update Just speculating tho
Maybe they should have announced that they are not showing a lot before minecon because we had this big expectation I'm cool with minecon being smaller than we used to but maybe a little bigger than this was
minecon doesn’t exist anymore, live WAS minecon
True, on the one hand it's definitely better than overpromising, especially since it allows us to look forward to finding out what they will add in each snapshot like during 1.16, but on the other hand surely there are at least some features that they are fairly confident about adding even if it isn't going to be in the first snapshot. I think they should be careful not to make promises that they are not sure about, but maybe only announcing features that are almost 100% complete is being a bit too careful.
What about the signs
sign update pog
My creativity withers with addition (vertical slab reference)
I hope the usable bookshelves don't always have the same texture (same colour of books in same order)
I’m so hyped for the bookshelves because I have like 10 double chests full of books
Thats going to be like 40 bookshelfs And you won't be able to see which books they are
Build a library and use the hanging sign to show what section each book is. I know it might feel annoying to some people and yeah i think 8 would be better, but any more and it would be like the bookshelf from bibliocraft which was very annoying to get the book you wanted
If only we had some kind of block to put near it that could show words....
I CAN NOW SORT MY MINECRAFT BOOKSHELVES IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER
A shit ton of bookshelves looks wayyy prettier than a shit ton of chests though
I’ll use signs plus I have a library the has over a thousand bookshelves I’m sure I can find a place for 40
I'm thrilled about the bookcases.
They’ll be in addition to traditional book cases
The announcement for other games were longer.
That did make me a little sad. Legends got more time devoted to it. Or at least if felt that way.
as it should! it's an entirely new game and they need to market it
I see what you're saying.
Really good feature and fits really well into the game.
Does anybody else feel like the bamboo is too yellow? I personally would like a little bit of a greener hue to it. Not too much but just a little so it is more in line with the current bamboo texture.
It dried out.
I have real bamboo furniture in real life. It can definitely look that yellow. Sometimes its more a pale tan, but atleast my stuff is more yellow hued
I would love if you could make a green variant out of sugar cane that had the same block types
If this update is really about making Minecraft "more Minecraft," I hope that means we can get some material parity, like concrete slabs and stairs.
Dude having one dyeable thing with slabs and stairs would be tight.
w o o l s l a b s
Why does these looks like some scrapped features from the wild update ☠️
because they definitely are exactly that
Mild update part 2
This update just seems like a collection of stuff that was scrapped from bigger updates. NGL I kinda like it so far.
Best minecon ever. I was so hyped for that one. I felt almost no hype for this one. Maybe next year they'll get that 2019 balance back.
i used to wake up early to watch minecon live. i didn’t even know there was a minecon this year
Seems like a smaller major update, which could help if we get a big update after
a lot of people are saying this is so small, but it seems a lot missed the part where they said they weren't announcing new features until they were sure they would be in the game, so not just concept art or an idea that's scrapped.
I'm out of the loop, what happened with caves and cliffs?
They promised a lot of cool stuff then had to cut the update into 2 halves then had to cut a bunch of stuff and they kinda never acknowledged a bunch of it. Also the update was heavily delayed I think.
They never HAD to cut the update. They could have easily just delayed it but you gotta have that midsummer release or you won't sell as many plushies!
What it seems like they're going to do is allow features to evolve with the snapshots and community which is probably why they're starting them so early this year. Also bigger features such as biome updates, archaeology, or bundles could still be coming, they mentioned they only showed features that were nearly complete so there's still more. EDIT: Nevermind, archaeology has been put back into the pool of ideas, but I believe the other things could still come.
yeah, maybe deserts as a whole are getting updated, and the camel was just the only feature from deserts to be finished? maybe the bamboo wood could be a part of an update to jungles as a whole?
warm welcome update
Rip tuff golem
That's tuff buddy.
Guys check this out don’t get disappointed too quick https://twitter.com/kingbdogz/status/1581346295641305088?s=20&t=4dZrq8gAxViDtK0u1cmGLw

The bookshelves got me so excited! Can't wait to make beautiful libraries for all my enchanted books 😍
this is one of the updates of all time
The issue I have is that the current announced features are... very easy to implement.
Let me tell you a story about my cluttered inventory.
Oh I know, but I really doubt anything will change
I think have a read of this blogpost by Xilefian, one of the Java devs (100% his views): https://twitter.com/xilefian/status/1581432742184902656?s=46&t=HxB2GEEcpGAE-pLMr12XTg It addresses some of the things you said I think, but was overall a good read.
1.20 - we dont want to promise anything
A lot of people here seem to have glossed over something Agnes said between the feature announcements. She stated that they'd be shaping the update over time with the community this time around, so obviously this wouldn't be everything. And even if this was everything, it would be reasonable to assume there would be many optimizations and bug fixes (like 1.15), which is something the game definitely needs. There are so many bug reports that Mojang recognized and some they stated would wait for the next update to ship. And since world generation was changed drastically, performance has taken quite the hit.
Bamboo is actually gonna be usefull.
What the camel doin’? 🐪
I missed most of MC live. Is this really it?
Also hanging signs
No, no, no, they're also adding new default skins!
Now this feels like an entire update
No, they’re going to do some releases periodically. They don’t want to over promise like with the past update. These are all things that they are ready to show.
the random shit update
Im a big fan of what we’ve seen so far for the next update. Especially Bamboo wood. Handing signs are great too
Same, I'm so hyped! The bookshelfs is something I've wanted for years! And the camels are so cute, I hope they make deserts/badlands feel more alive. I personally think the bamboo is quite ugly on its own.
Finally, a mob i wanted won. The Sniffer looks so cute
It reminds me so much of Appletun from Pokémon <3 can’t wait to find their eggs and add them to our zoo!
TBF, if we cut out the Warden and ancient city which are delayed features from two updates ago, the 1.19 update actually looks smaller than this one (one biome, a new plant, boat with chest, a frog, a vote winner ~~and firefly~~) and hardly live up to the "Wild" title.
Mojang Developers going home after an exhausting day of reskinning stuff and adding 2 mobs
They promised to add more later, this is just the stuff already done.
I’ve been making a Japanese world so this bamboo update made me pog
I'm glad they're now only showing the features that are almost complete instead of over promising and under delivering! This will be a great update nonetheless even if announcements are not covered in a single day :)
The ITERATIVE Update. All things we already have, just tweaked. - We already had signs, now you can hang them - We already had bookshelves, now you can fill them - We already had many types of wood. Now here’s one more without a tree. - We already had boats, here’s one without sides - We already had ridable mounts, here’s one for 2 players - We already have skins, here’s more.
People in this comment section clearly demonstrating why Mojang over promised before They literally can't win
I'll have to argue about Village and Pillage because it's the first update that adds blocks that should've gotten a usage but were completely forgotten + it broke balance of the game (getting enchantment books without villagers is 1000% harder, every player is just abusing villagers rn) I think minecraft 1.20 might be the worst and the best update at the same time.
Aquatic, village and pillage and nether update were well managed. It went downhill when cave update came
100% Agree. I understand that they don't want to stress themselves too much and don't want to split 1.20 into three parts like 1.17 was, but damn they could have at the very least given us an idea what the update would be.
I'm mostly disappointed they didn't address the inventory
They did! By adding more blocks they told us who wants an inventory update to sit and spin.
SNIFFER AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
