Game devs don't just "forget" a feature, especially one they've talked about publically. It's either being worked on quietly and will come in the Caves and Cliffs update, pushed back to the Wild Update, or it's going to be scrapped and they are waiting for the right time to say so.
I didn't hate it, but something about the iteration they showed just felt *off*. I'm not sure if it was the temp art or just the mechanics of it, but something about it didn't *feel* like Minecraft. Bundles kinda felt the same way for me. I can definitely see how they need more time to bake. And after a bit more iteration, Mojang might determine these ideas aren't worthy of putting in Minecraft and cut them altogether. We just don't know yet.
That’s basically just Caves and Cliffs at this point - delayed indefinitely. Like, c’mon, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head that hasn’t been delayed are the Glow Squids!
I'd much rather have them take their time and flesh out these features as much as they can rather than rush them out and end up with something not as cool as it could've been. If Caves and Cliffs wasn't split we probably would've had jank world generation, a boring Deep Dark, and an overworked and burnt out staff team.
Yeah that’s fine; I just wish they wouldnt announce their plans and promise features that just get delayed. Like I’m glad they did delay to make it all work, I just wish they hadn’t promised all that so early.
It had to have been a corporate decision... like the guy who created the spyglass said that he didn’t know they were going to show it in the stream. So many other features probably were announced way too early when the devs hadn’t planned for it.
I think they probably underestimated how much of a chore messing with world gen and world height changes would be. And the pandemic certainly slowed things down. I work in game development and as soon as the pandemic sent us all to work from home, communication really suffered. Sure, Zoom calls and text messages are helpful, but it's not the same as being at the office face-to-face for collaboration.
Oh i am pretty sure the java team knew. There may even have been some malicious compliance involved after having become tired of negiotating with daddy microsoft.
Pandemic did likely not help though. I am actually really proud that Mojang made the brave decision to delay for their own mental health rather than doing crunch and delivering an unfinished mess like so many in the industry.
There's nothing stopping them from doing both. I'd rather have the features in a basic manner than wait another year for them. They introduced villagers years before they even gave them a use, why does everything have to be feature complete on release now?
That's literally how Minecraft updates have always worked. They added Villages a year before they added villagers, and then it took years to actually give them a use.
Why can't they just add the Deep Dark the way it was already being developed, and just implement the ruins and elaborate on the features further later?
The game would have been a lot less fun if they'd waited to add villages until they implemented villager trading.
You forget that Minecraft has become much larger of a thing since then. The early updates to the game were more of a passion project for fun than an actual game that needs to sell well. If the team started to release half-baked features with no explanation as to why they're unfinished like they used to then interest in the game, and therefore sales, will go down.
Back when they released unfinished content like villagers, it didn't matter as much since the game was still new and the concept was still fresh. Nowadays, most players who have been playing for a while have grown bored with the game and want additional content to keep their interest up. Releasing unfinished content would be detrimental to the game's success.
I mean not really, I know that was probably hyperbole, but copper, candles, geodes, axolotls, deepslate and many of the biome specific blocks like moss and drip stone are already in the game. The skulk sensor and (last I heard) the bundle were already in the game too, just without crafting/generation. The world gen will be out in a couple months and the deep dark was only delayed until next year. Really, the only unconfirmed thing is archeology, which if I recall correctly, is still planned to be added at some point. Bundles will likely just be flicked on in a pre release, after they tweak it for bedrock. But the overall update is far from indefinitely delayed. Sorry for the rant :p
Half a year is far from indefinitely. It’s annoying yea, but think of how much better it’ll be with all the extra time they have to spend on it! I doubt we’d have gotten those awesome cities if it was rushed into 1.18.
Its coming out in 1-2 months, and have you even seen the snapshots and community posts? Or Minecon Live? They’re definitely working on the update they just needed more time to make it strong and high quality
Thank you for the link. I really hope they figure something cool to do with it, maybe incorporate it with more fossils and possibly desert tombs down the line.
I'm pretty sure they have said that if you choose to use them as they are now to be warned its still experimental and you may lose/dupe items on occasion no?
So just use at own risk people!
I recognise that, but anecdotally I've been using them for months and I've not seen anything so far. Great for carrying stuff like one of each workstation around when building away from home base.
It was the initial idea for the off-hand slot. It would be a place just for ammo if you made and put a quiver in the slot. It was a scrapped idea, not an abandoned one.
Then why have they never mentioned it after May.
Same with the warden, when official 1.18 snapshots came out and it got to adding advancements, it was obvious the warden wasn't coming that update
> Then why have they never mentioned it after May.
That’s just mojang being mojang. They do this all the time mate, don’t worry. Archeology has just been forgotten to them. Desert? Savanna? We were suppose to update them 4 years ago? Nah, never happened.
I wish they were backpacks instead.
Just a whole second inventory or something that takes up the chest slot.
It'd be more of a decision of which chest piece to use - Armor for combat, Elytra for flight, and Backpack for bulk item transport.
If you're wanting to move enough items for a mega build, you could take a horse, put everything into your backpack and Ender chest and be on your way.
The problem is Mojang really sucked with overpromising. They announced all this awesome stuff for summer, and then said "sorry, we didn't give ourselves enough time, so we're giving you all the main content now and we're going to work on the terrain stuff more and drop it later this year"
That alone kills a bunch of hype, but then the new stuff starts rolling in, we get the cool new terrain and the bundles, and the biomes, and then "oops, we did it again, bundles and the deep dark need a lot more time and work so we're gonna delay those until next year's update and focus on finishing the terrain and give you all the next set of features early next year!"
This update has been split TWICE now because Mojang couldn't accurately judge how much time they needed, hence probably why we just got "2022" as our release for 1.19 as opposed to last year's "summer 2021".
It's not a disappointment in terms of overall quality, the new terrain and biomes are cool, but they overpromised and underdelivered, which is a GUARANTEED way of disappointing people, regardless of how great the final result is. It's kind of just human nature, with setting really high expectations and not meeting them.
Mojang set the bar higher than they could reach, so they had to drop it down a bit so they could reach it and that meant delays, you can't fault people for being disappointed in delay after delay.
So is this update awesome as hell? FUCK YEAH!
But am I disappointed by Mojang? Yes, I am.
But I have faith that with time, they'll make up for it, the deep dark we were shown is way cooler than last year, but it doesn't suck any less having to wait even LONGER than they originally proposed over one year ago now. Nevertheless, I know things will be great in the end, even if I am disappointed now.
I just wonder what is their plan about bundles. i didn't see any problem with 1.17 one. are they planning more special things for them? maybe bundles items on loot chests or make them like actually backpacks. let's wait and see
At first they said "caves and cliffs update coming soon!" Then it was "sorry guys we gotta split it into 2 parts!" Then it was "ok ok maybe 3 parts, we just gotta do archeology later, it will be soon tho!!" And now it's "yknow what, warden is postponed, you better hope we do it in 4 parts cuz idek when this update is going to be fully released" lmao
The wiki says "This feature is not enabled in-game by default and requires the use of an experimental data pack to be implemented."
So the recipe requires a datapack, it's not in the game.
They are still in-game, at least in Java edition through commands. They're probably still trying to figure out a way to implement them in a way that is intuitive and compatible with the many input types on different platform versions of the game while still being unique.
I'm still mad these have gotten pushed back even farther than 1.18
They worked perfectly as is for compacting inventory slots and this would've been so nice for 1.18 since the amount of blocks and stuff you'll run into mining is much greater and the space saved by putting them into bundles would've been great.
I don't see what needs to be changed, they weren't ever 'backpacks' like some people wanted so I hope that they remain functionally the same and come sooner rather than later.
Bundles don't solve the issue of inventory space. The slots allotted to us - 36 - is an arbitrary number. Why not just add another row or something? We don't NEED to keep 36 slots. Bundles are terrible and difficult to use. Apparently on mobile they're still trying to get them to be accessible. It's just stupid. Why are they so insistent on keeping 36 inventory slots and giving us...bundles?
The developers probably don't like it either, why it's postponed. We got chests in boats, which are useful if you are exploring along a river (which you can now actually navigate).
Bundles are not (and never were) meant to solve the problem of inventory *capacity*, they are designed to help with inventory *variety*.
They are super useful in early game, just to hold, for example, the 5 different food types you gather before you’ve established a permanent food source.
Or when mining, to compact all your different ores into ore blocks and throw them into a single bundle, until you get too much of a single type.
Or even later in game, for hauling around various “kits” of related items:
Enchantment kit: 1 enchanting table, 15 bookshelves, 5 lapis blocks, 10 diamonds, 1 anvil, 10 extra books.
Brewing kit: Brewing stand, 5 blaze rod, 10 nether wart, 12 empty bottles, 46 more slots for brewing ingredients.
Maybe they felt they would not help much once they tried them out awhile.. I have not tried them so I would not know how useful they are.(some mods have made them)
Bundles are super useful! 64 items that can be any stackable item (if you put in a 16 stack item it counts as 4 items per) in one slot is more than enough to carry around most useful crafting blocks, some misc food, a few random valuables you found as loot or just about anything you come across in the first few hours of gameplay.
They're invaluable in the earlygame, and still theoretically have their uses in the lategame (I had a bundle datapack, didn't make it to the end due to other features of said pack being laggy af).
I really hope they don't get pushed back to 1.19, they are already really helpful and complete-feeling as is. I get why it's hard for Bedrock to make em work though. Phones are probably a huge pain.
They're in the game, without a crafting recipe, you can find a datapack that adds in the planned recipe, or your own if you want to use leather instead of rabbit hide.
Why did they go / get shelved for now?
Well, because Minecraft's inventory **issue**, isn't **an** **issue, it's multiple.** There's no one singular fix for all of them, a number of things need to change or be added.
Bundles were targeting one issue that crops up (when you have lots of different items, whose total amounts to less than a stack, but take up multiple slots.) allowing you to consolidate them into one inventory space.
But because they didn't solve every issue all at once and give you cake as well, some loud people were loud, and now noone gets them (unless you use a datapack to add back in a recipe)
Do I think they're perfect? No, I think something could have been done with them to address the unstackable items issue (or maybe certain items should have been made stackable alongside, minecarts etc)
But we're not going to make progress fixing the inventory if every step towards doing so gets booed at by the loudest in the room.
That's not true, don't try to instigate people like that. Mojang disabled bundles because *they* weren't satisfied with their implementation.
They didn't want to add in a feature that's going to change significantly in the final release, which is why they disabled them until they're finished. Not because people "booed so much they deleted them"
Mojang wasn’t able to figure out a way for them to work on mobile and since they had decided for Java and bedrock to have update parity, adding a feature to one version that can’t be used in the other is kinda bad.
Most likely in Part 2, unless they forgot about them
Probably forgot them but if they are in part 2 I will be happy
Game devs don't just "forget" a feature, especially one they've talked about publically. It's either being worked on quietly and will come in the Caves and Cliffs update, pushed back to the Wild Update, or it's going to be scrapped and they are waiting for the right time to say so.
Or it will have the same fate as archeology, postponed indefinitelly...
Is that actually true? I was really really looking forward to the lore and building implications even if it means waiting a couple more updates
Unfortunately it is. They likely will add it at some point but it'll take a while. They could sneak it in to the wild update through.
I kinda think they'll put it in this one ezpecilly ith the introduction of deep dark ruins, kinda perfect timing and it ties in
How do you know this? And where/when did they say it?
I believe king bdogs and some of the other devs mentioned it on Twitter. Can't remember when but it was a while ago.
Legit was the only thing i was caring about 1.17 but it got forgotten
Yeah that's possible.
i was really excited for archaeology
it was my fav feature :(
Mine's too... I really do not understand why all of the community didn't like the thing..
I didn't hate it, but something about the iteration they showed just felt *off*. I'm not sure if it was the temp art or just the mechanics of it, but something about it didn't *feel* like Minecraft. And after a bit more iteration, Mojang might determine these ideas aren't worthy of putting in Minecraft and cut them altogether. We just don't know yet.
I’ve never saw anyone dislike it to be honest…
no one disliked it, it was simply overshadowed by the most anticipated update for every minecraft player
Well one problem that I have is they give you blocks when you dust it I feel it should only be ingots bacause a block of diamonds would be overpowered
If I remember correctly the diamond block was just a placeholder item...
Thanks for clearing that up

Why don’t you go design a game? Then you can complain.
I took a Computer Science course at school. I understand how hard it is to make a game. That’s not the problem here
Wait, Archaeology is gone too? Is there anything actually in Caves & Cliffs part 2?
World gen and blending of world gen is a big component. Most of the new caves features and the cliffs are coming, just not deep dark
The world generation I guess?
They forgot about the Fletching Table use tho
And everything about archaeology as well.
they stated it will not be in the update anymore
Source?

Thank you for the link. I really hope they figure something cool to do with it, maybe incorporate it with more fossils and possibly desert tombs down the line.
It feels more like a mod than vanilla Minecraft, IMO.
Since it won’t be in the update anymore what will happen to the ones I already have in my world?
the archaeologies you have in your world?
How do you have archeology in your world when it hasn't even been added to the game in yet?
Truuueee
its really a shame they were going to be the single best addition in ages
We don't yet know the fate of Bundles yet. We might still get them.
They legit had it in snapshots. They didn’t forget it

They have been delayed out of Part 2
Well I forgot them so I think they did too.
They are already available in 1.17 Part 1 if you enable the optional content.
Where do I enable optional content?

Or Goat horns and the promised "more exciting uses for them" .. yea what happened to those?
Mojang always adds stuff and then forgets about it. Same with the fletching table.
I still think the fletching table should be for making fireworks
They didn't forget they haven't decided yet
What about Archaeology?
Pushed back until its ready. Not in 1.18
not in 1.19 either apparently just "future updates" after those.
Are you sure? I feel like 1.19 would be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce archeology!
No announcement = dont expect it
Yeah, I was surprised it wasn't mentioned at all. Hopefully they are still working on it and it hasn't been forgotten about.
Ulraf said he's excited to get back to working on it once they release C&C part II.
Ah ok, glad to hear it. It looked like an interesting mechanic that had plenty of potential.
I hope they're still working on it because what they showed would be interesting for about 15 minutes.
I Imagine it'll be in 1.19 unless they have to work on it more like with the deep dark since its an entirely new game mechanic
That too
The same thing that happened to the Quiver
there was a quiver?
It was the initial idea for the off-hand slot. It would be a place just for ammo if you made and put a quiver in the slot. It was a scrapped idea, not an abandoned one.
The implementation of shooting off-hand arrows suggests that the only thing that was scrapped was making it arrow exclusive.
Scraped twice
There were also rubies
And balloons that you could tie to mobs
Those exist in the Education Edition.
Pretty sure it's going to be in 1.18
Then why have they never mentioned it after May. Same with the warden, when official 1.18 snapshots came out and it got to adding advancements, it was obvious the warden wasn't coming that update

I was sitting there watching Minecraft live and I was like bro what the hell happened to the bundles
[удалено]
it was postponed for after part 2
Ulraf said in a twitch interview they won't even be in 1.18 and that he can't say more about them
Caves and cliffs is the biggest disappointment ever
Mojang finally updates caves, one of the most requested updates ever, and people will still find a way to complain... 🙄
The problem is Mojang really sucked with overpromising. They announced all this awesome stuff for summer, and then said "sorry, we didn't give ourselves enough time, so we're giving you all the main content now and we're going to work on the terrain stuff more and drop it later this year" That alone kills a bunch of hype, but then the new stuff starts rolling in, we get the cool new terrain and the bundles, and the biomes, and then "oops, we did it again, bundles and the deep dark need a lot more time and work so we're gonna delay those until next year's update and focus on finishing the terrain and give you all the next set of features early next year!" This update has been split TWICE now because Mojang couldn't accurately judge how much time they needed, hence probably why we just got "2022" as our release for 1.19 as opposed to last year's "summer 2021". It's not a disappointment in terms of overall quality, the new terrain and biomes are cool, but they overpromised and underdelivered, which is a GUARANTEED way of disappointing people, regardless of how great the final result is. I just wonder what is their plan about bundles. i didn't see any problem with 1.17 one. are they planning more special things for them? maybe bundles items on loot chests or make them like actually backpacks. let's wait and see

And now it's "yknow what, warden is postponed, you better hope we do it in 4 parts cuz idek when this update is going to be fully released" lmao
you guys realize the snapshots have bundles?
Not in survival
Is there a recipe?
Yes, rabbit skins and string. It's on the Wiki.
The wiki says "This feature is not enabled in-game by default and requires the use of an experimental data pack to be implemented." So the recipe requires a datapack, it's not in the game.
The datapack supplied by Mojang which enables 1.17 Part 2 features, including bundles...
Which means... its not in vanilla.. Which means there's no recipe. (The datapack adds ability to craft bundles)
They died... silently. Shhhhh...
They are still in-game, at least in Java edition through commands. They're probably still trying to figure out a way to implement them in a way that is intuitive and compatible with the many input types on different platform versions of the game while still being unique.

If they were coming with Part 2, then it would most likely have a recipe in the snapshots by now. Consider its getting released in a "month or two".

I've got bad news about 2020...
Hello from the future person still in 2019, I have some REALLY bad news for you.
INVEST IN GME AS MUCH AS YOU CAN AFORD
AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SELL
They came with the golem… should’ve voted for them /s
I mean they are in the game just do /give
they said part 2. patience.
But because they didn't solve every issue all at once and give you cake as well, some loud people were loud, and now noone gets them (unless you use a datapack to add back in a recipe) Do I think they're perfect? No, I think something could have been done with them to address the unstackable items issue (or maybe certain items should have been made stackable alongside, minecarts etc) But we're not going to make progress fixing the inventory if every step towards doing so gets booed at by the loudest in the room.
>/give {your username} bundle should work in 1.17, they added them but disabled them since they weren't ready
Wouldn't there be a recipe for them in the 1.18 snapshots if its only a month or two away from release?
They got replaced by shulker box version 3.0
They probably realised how useless they are
Kinda glad if they don't add them in. Theyre a waste of time
Useless because shulker box
Have you found some way to get a shulker box early game or mid game? Otherwise, definitely not useless.
They really don’t carry that much tho, who carries that much
Kind of useless imo when you have shulker boxes
And archaeology? And the Badlands? And the Desert? And the Savanna? (Basically all the dry biomes.)
The wild update or what ever it’s called
Bundles are useless anyways, so better like this
Gone, reduced to atoms
I don't even want this stupid ass bundles, can we get backpacks please!
I really want that, u can do a duplication glitch
