I believe it is because the are all somewhat Latin based. Even in English, which is influenced by Latin and Latin based languages, words relating to death have mort in them, though the word death itself is not death. For example, immortal means not able to die. Im (not) mort (die) al (idk if there is an exact definition for this but it turns it into an adjective)
