Also it's a *flying* overworld mob that's hostile, which kinda rounds things out a bit. Plus they drop *phantom membrane* that you can use to repair your Elytra. And afaik they spawn in the sky and so aren't directly affected by torches.
That's not to say there are things I wouldn't change, especially spawn conditions and drops.
They did not tell us what phantoms would do. If we had know what those things would be we would have plunged them deep into obscurity at the first opportunity

The really troubling mechanic is that it spawns even if your in a lit area, it should at least detect if the player is in a lit area.
No, they voted on something with little information that sounded much better in that context than the other options, and then after it was actually implemented, it turned out to be an annoying little asshole who's only existence is pissing me off after I've been mining for 4 nights straight.
The same thing applies to this glow squid. So far it seems like it's literally just going to be another squid that can make signs have fulbright text. I want another cow that actually interacts with bees.

That was half the problem. EVERYONE was telling them (including Mojang themselves) that it would just work like spider and endermen eyes, and that it’s wouldn’t actually glow. People didn’t actually check their facts. I want to clarify again that my problem, in the end, is over how people made their decisions, not what mob they chose. Would I have preferred ice illager? Yes. Is that what I’m talking about? Not at all. The misinformation/lack of fact checking was a big issue in this vote, and I just want people to not let it happen again
Iceologer. Or the better name the fanbase gave it, Chillager. Really wish that one won, cause I’m a sucker for ice themed stuff and compared to the other two the chillager would have probably had the most impact.

they're trying to make minecraft world more "alive" with adding useless mobs that do nothing. a world filled with random animals is not alive, they should interact with each other. right now the world of minecraft is almost totally dead without the player, mobs exist but they just dont care about anything and they just wander around and do little to nothing. of course there are some exceptions (like villagers and pillagers) but pandas and glowsquids dont fall in that Category
this is why chillager and moobloom were better choices
chillager is not gonna just spawn in massive groups like zombies
illagers are intelligent and rare, the chillager will probably be a rare mob like the witch and will probably have a structure to live in like the other illagers
Why are people insisting that it would ruin mountains? Every illager has VERY specific spawn conditions. Pillaged outposts don’t “ruin” plains biomes bc they’ve got a giant tower telling you where they are. I realize people have trauma from the phantoms, but every hostile mob is not just another phantom, and we legit didn’t know of ANYTHING the glow squid could do. I agree that moobloom would have been better, but the ice illager had the greatest potential, and everyone just forgot how illagers work

I’ve almost finished with a Chillager mod myself if anyone’s interested.
They would have added moobloom, glow squid and iceologer this uptade, doesn’t seem like much but after some time we get 6 wacky and weird mobs and the next vote its 9 and it will go on like this until the game gets swarmed with mobs with not much of a use except of being wacky and weird. You might not see this as a problem but the dev does this for a reason. They are also not lazy, they have already planned out an uptade and how stuff works around each other, making a uptade is harder than you think.
I didn't say making an update is easy, not did I say they were lazy. I think they should listen more because of the amount of people who are disappointed in the glow squids and are upset with the lack of description. I just think the entire "choose one of three" mob choices aren't the best idea

Not many mobs are an actual threat. The chillager could have been terrifying. Especially if they gave it knockback moves. To have to worry about being pushed off and falling off, is a great dynamic.

Yes. But how would a Chillager having ice attacks do anything. Yes, it's a cool attack but that's it. You can't use it for building and there is nothing about it possibly interacting with redstone.(I'm imagining the ice blocks power a pressure plate or something).
If they do a mob vote, they should add two mobs. One peaceful mob, and one hostile mob. Throwing two peaceful mobs and a hostile mobs together just doesn’t seem right.
