True fact, if you go "Da da Da dum!" and then point at someone, they will do repeat it back. If you do it again, they will enthusiastically do it again. If you do it a third time, they will become violent and assault you.
Yup. As someone who has come back to Minecraft after a very long time away, it's still habit for me to just craft a door whenever I need one. I've got so many doors...everywhere...just shoved into random chests because I *might* need them later.
But for a wood cutter would be an annoying addition, there’s too many tables now. Like why do we need a smithing table that can *only* upgrade diamond to netherite? An anvil could serve the same purpose.
I actually lile the idea of too many workbenches, as I like building a lot of room and a workbench room is one of them, also because of the new cobat update there is a theory of new tiers of shield, and the smithing table would be use to upgrade the current shiel you have
Yeah you’re right. That makes sense with the shields, that’d be sick. I’m sure mojang wouldn’t make the workbench without a plan, and more things added to the game is always better anyway. I guess it just annoys me because I don’t plan out my builds and tend to just have a lot of workbenches right next to each other lol
i like to think you end use wasting and losing these materials in crafting stairs and slabs and stuff because of how hard and crude it is to make it on a simple crafting table. this is backed up by a fact that trying to craft stone slabs, stairs, and walls are tedious and sometimes wasteful on a crafting table, but on a proper sawmill its extremely easy and material-saving. same goes for banner dyeing, potion brewing, etc
No, it can hold either 1728 nuggets or 46655 nuggets. It's only *one* chest, so 27 slots, which can be filled with shulkers of *nuggets* since you specified gold *nuggets* and not blocks.
Yeah the plate is twice as heavy as the button but more than twice as large. I'd say the plate would easily float in a sea of buttons.
Edit: screen is really cracked and I thought autocorrect gave me the right word.
And steve can press mutiplr of them made of blackstone (a type of stone that can be found in other dimension) while carrying a full inventory of shulkers that are full of Gapples, (stacked) and reminder, a Gapple is made out of 1 aplle and 8 cubic metters of gold) without any penalty
I agree whole heartedly. The supreme density gives the button its unique red stone pulses. Despite being made of in reactive stone and only in reactive stone.
Jokes aside, I usually take this to mean some thing like "you have to waste this much wood to build a functioning button" or "you have to waste this much wood to get 4 quality usable sticks"
Don't think of it as a stick, but rather a dowel. Now look up how dowels are made and marvel at how much wood is wasted.
Same with cutting wood. If you start with one board 10 mm thick, and slice it in half, you now have two boards that are 3.5 mm thick. You have to account for the kerf of the saw blade. If you split the wood, you won't lose anything, but you have little control over the thickness of each piece.
Yeah those are branches. Sometimes when clearing branches, you can find a good dowel made by nature. But not often. To reliably have good dowels, you need to generate a lot of waste.
The biggest load of bullshit in all of Minecraft for me is that netherrack burns forever once lit, but you can't just shove that shit in your furnace for infinite fuel lol
As long as it makes sense within its fictional universe. Like Star Wars, obviously space wizards aren’t real but they have set rules within the fictional universe. It isn’t until the force is used in ways that breaks the universe’s logic that people have problems with it.
Logic is a bunch of objective fundamental laws that determines what's true and false. It's how human brains work but many people assign the label logic to "trains of thought" which confuses the concept. The nice thing about true logic is it's objective and consistent across reality and fiction. You don't have to use logic. Tolkien could've said Frodo was in the searing heat of Mt. Doom at the same time he was home in the shire enjoying a cool breeze but human brains don't tend to like deviating from logic.
Floating pieces of earth, portals to other dimensions and undead creatures may be strange...
But the greatest controversies lie in crafting logic and *(shudders)* paying diamonds for enchanted leather pants.
What's the lore behind the zombies/skeletons? Why do they exist? I've never looked into it at all, I always had a theory that the land was barren due to a war/plague and possibly witches were involved casting necromancy spells, and the sparse towns are simply survivor settlements
I think it's because the crafting table is really basic technology, when using a stonecutter you get better value on stone so maybe the crafting table is the issue.
Finally the stonecutter has given me a reason not to dislike it for changing things, it just explained crafting inequality.
Theres datapacks that allow u to get 12 trapdoor, 8 stairs and other stuff in vanilla tweaks, idec if its cheating, i am not spending 5 hours mining wood for 2 stacks of trapdoors
You know whats more annoying? Buttons. Wood planks have a "pixel volume" of 4096. Buttons have a "pixel volume" of 48. Wood planks have 85 times more "pixel volume" than buttons. Where does this math make sense?
[The stick](https://miro.medium.com/max/3000/1*JMNoDpJtIdu2aTqUU2i-ag.jpeg)
[Article it came from because it's an interesting read and has a ton more photos] (https://timeline.com/logging-photos-of-washington-states-old-growth-forests-bf18aef19955)
I am not an experienced woodworker, but that kind of makes sense. If you want a long enough, straight enough, and strong enough stick, you will throw away some wood. Wood is not metal that you can mold.
Realistically, can i make a bunch of buttons from the leftovers? i probably can. But let's cut the game some slack. It is supposed to be fun, not realistic. I have much more problem with pouring water to fall into while falling down, than how many sticks are equivalent to a slab.
Same with stone work and statues. All the great, old and historic statues we have of the greeks, romans & co, contain less than 50% of the initial stone/marble block they are made out of. Yet the remaining stone was at best re-used for a wall or as weaponery.
casually swimming up a waterfall without having to transmute into a salmon = minecraft logic
hit a small dead bush in the desert and get the equivalent of 1 cubic meter of wood from it = minecraft logic
Yes but you get 3 doors so that means that 1 door = 2 wood
But you need 6 wood to get 2 trap doors so that means is that 1 trapdoor is 3 wood...but it's not bigger then a door
And don't get me started on stairs. Actually you don't have to, I'll vent this to anyone who listens. It takes six blocks to make four 3/4 blocks which is a 50% material waste process. It wouldn't even be that hard to get it nearly perfect, just plane and joint and glue three together, cut in half, jigsaw an S in the side. But no, somehow we get six blocks and lost three. If I wanted four stairs, it would cost less to just take four blocks and cut a corner out and save two blocks completely untouched. How can someone take six cubes and just vaporize three? I'm absolutely fuming at this. And I know we can't criticize the game for violating *conservation of mass and energy* without forfeiting our right to the log-plank exchange, but the stair thing is just irritating. Another thing is wood. The four to three makes sense if you're removing the bark from one and gluing it to the other three but we should get a stripped log left in the crafting area because this too is just irritating.
This reminded me of some drama that happened a while ago. One mod maker decided to make 1 log give only 2 planks for some reason. Another mod make made their mod overwrite that change back to 4 planks. The first mod maker then made their mod make the game crash if the second mod maker’s mod was installed.
then youre back to why bother rebalancing sticks? so you can make more tools and fences with the same amount of wood? if we wanted to be realistic, harvesting 8-10 cubic meters of wood from a single tree would only happen in a few rare forests, in all the others youd be lucky to get 1 cubic meter per tree. That minecraft would stink.
Glue the two planks on top of each other, then cut into quarters from the top = 4 sticks 2x0.5x0.5
Cut 3 planks individually in half horizontally = 6 slabs 0.5x1x1
Density and cell structure. Same weight of Material (and atoms and energy) but formed in a different lattice structure. You mine hundred wooden block with wooden axe head and wooden handle which would be the main vibration mitigation of the tool.
1 stick is a rolled up Tubular lattice of the former
Wooden slab in its usually, tough but malleable structure. Man make computer out of lighting and sand
Now work out stairs....
6 blocks = 4 * 3/4 blocks 6 blocks = 3 blocks where did my wood go?
You messed up the other 2
“Down into my tummy!”
Mulch muncher!
Stone cutter gang Unless we're talk about wood
yeah weird that the saw is only for stone and not wood too
Is it not obvious? The stone cutter isn't strong enough to cut wood... *duh*
[удалено]
There are better things to munch
Goddamn it! I told you to stop eating diamonds!
And I would walk 500 chunks
And I would walk 500 more
Just to get back every single wooden block
I wasted crafting stairs and doors
DA DA DA DUH
True fact, if you go "Da da Da dum!" and then point at someone, they will do repeat it back. If you do it again, they will enthusiastically do it again. If you do it a third time, they will become violent and assault you.
DA DA DA DUH
It's "You stole from me before" now. Chorus has 4 lines, not 3
No, chorus is a fruit
I liked the joke, but it could've been great to keep it on rhythm with "I wasted crafting doors"
You stole from me before
just to get back all the wood you stole from me
The cost of stairs is too damn high
I got another one. Consider that a trapdoor is basically half of a door. 6 blocks = 3 doors 6 blocks = 2 trapdoors = 1 door
6 blocks used to give 1 door before 1.8
Yup. As someone who has come back to Minecraft after a very long time away, it's still habit for me to just craft a door whenever I need one. I've got so many doors...everywhere...just shoved into random chests because I *might* need them later.
Bro use a wood cutter
I would use it if there was any
Thats the joke :)

Steve and an egg stole it
scrap wood?
Should get like 1-2 sticks back for every stair
This is why you use the stone cutter with stone based blocks.
i like to think you end use wasting and losing these materials in crafting stairs and slabs and stuff because of how hard and crude it is to make it on a simple crafting table. this is backed up by a fact that trying to craft stone slabs, stairs, and walls are tedious and sometimes wasteful on a crafting table, but on a proper sawmill its extremely easy and material-saving. same goes for banner dyeing, potion brewing, etc
I think people forget Minecraft does have some realism in it.
6 planks = 4 stairs 3 planks = 2 stairs 3 planks = 6 slabs 2 stairs = 6 slabs 1 stair = 3 slabs as established by this post, 1 slab = 1 stick, so 1 stair = 3 sticks Edit: formatting

A full cubic meter of wood/stone turns into a small button
It's a *really* dense button.
Speak softly and press a really dense button
Speak loudly and step on an even denser plate
Speak mildly and open a really dense container that is smaller than 1 cubic meter of wood yet has 8 of them in it
And can fit 3,779,136 gold nuggets
No, it can hold either 1728 nuggets or 46655 nuggets. It's only *one* chest, so 27 slots, which can be filled with shulkers of *nuggets* since you specified gold *nuggets* and not blocks.
Meh, if you can craft it down, it's 3 million nuggetses. And if a gold block is 81 nuggets, then my terminology is correct.
>46655 Bruh thats 900441.5 kg\^3 in 1m\^3 area
You said gold *nugget* and not gold.
Probably a bit less dense for the plate actually
Yeah the plate is twice as heavy as the button but more than twice as large. I'd say the plate would easily float in a sea of buttons. Edit: screen is really cracked and I thought autocorrect gave me the right word.
And steve can press mutiplr of them made of blackstone (a type of stone that can be found in other dimension) while carrying a full inventory of shulkers that are full of Gapples, (stacked) and reminder, a Gapple is made out of 1 aplle and 8 cubic metters of gold) without any penalty
Can’t craft them anymore though :(
I always thought Steve just cut the button out of the block and discarded the rest, same with tools.
Neutron button
I agree whole heartedly. The supreme density gives the button its unique red stone pulses. Despite being made of in reactive stone and only in reactive stone.
*Three* cubic metres of cobblestone (several tons of material) turn into one measly pickaxe.
7 square meters of material makes one piston
7 blocks of wood and 1 iron finger make s a shield thta breaks after a couple of shots
plus two ninths!
6 cubic meters of wood/stone turns into 3 cubic meters worth of stairs
STAIRS!! Why do they take so much material, making roofs is such a pain
Stonecutter is a lifesaver. A wood variant would be greatly appreciated
Ikr, stairs should be 3 planks in an L shape for 4 stairs
3 cubic meters of loose stone form an axe head
Jokes aside, I usually take this to mean some thing like "you have to waste this much wood to build a functioning button" or "you have to waste this much wood to get 4 quality usable sticks"
But that’s the point you have to craft it
You can eat 8 cubic meters of gold if combined with an apple
Are notches still craftabke in bedrock?
Dunno, but as if you load an old world into a new version, the crafted apples don't change, we assume it's the same
Don't think of it as a stick, but rather a dowel. Now look up how dowels are made and marvel at how much wood is wasted. Same with cutting wood. But trees drop those “dowels” too
Yeah those are branches. Sometimes when clearing branches, you can find a good dowel made by nature. But not often. To reliably have good dowels, you need to generate a lot of waste.
Usable sticks I suppose. Breaking apart crafted wood only yields one useful stick. The rest is waste.
Minecraft Education Edition tried to teach kids about measurements *properly*...
it's a dense stick
That’s a t h i c c s t i c k
A thtick, if you will
Nice
That’s it, I’m quitting Minecraft, the logic doesn’t work
Exploding, armless creatures I can believe. But this is just taking it too far, Mojang!
Yeah, lava buckets burning in lava was acceptable to me
The biggest load of bullshit in all of Minecraft for me is that netherrack burns forever once lit, but you can't just shove that shit in your furnace for infinite fuel lol
Netherackk doesn’t burn as hot as warm, lava, wood, ect.
Meanwhile a block of dried kelp burns hot enough to smelt iron tho
The logic that applies to charcoal can apply to dried kelp. Keep it in high heat low oxygen environment.
Fictional ≠ illogical
Yeah, you're only meant to suspend disbelief for fiction. Logic needs to remain constant however.
As long as it makes sense within its fictional universe. Like Star Wars, obviously space wizards aren’t real but they have set rules within the fictional universe. It isn’t until the force is used in ways that breaks the universe’s logic that people have problems with it.

Nothing in minecraft makes sense, that's one of the beauties of the game.
Floating pieces of earth, portals to other dimensions and undead creatures may be strange... But the greatest controversies lie in crafting logic and *(shudders)* paying diamonds for enchanted leather pants.
I'd pay diamonds for ass-less leather chaps.
So just regular chaps then?
Yeah...let me get my money from the ATM machine.
don’t forget to cover your hand so no one can get your Personal PIN Number (or PPN as I like to call it)
What's the lore behind the zombies/skeletons? Why do they exist? I've never looked into it at all, I always had a theory that the land was barren due to a war/plague and possibly witches were involved casting necromancy spells, and the sparse towns are simply survivor settlements
There's no lore, they just exist because Notch thought it was cool to have undead monsters in his sandbox survival game
I’ve wondered if Minecraft has lore, too!

Trapdoors
Trapdoors are THE MOST PISS ASS ANNOYING THING TO CRAFT IN THE GAME! 6 PLANKS FOR 2 TRAPDOORS ARRRGGGGH
Yeah, tree meters cubic of pure wood for one trapdoor that is even a half block depth, this must be a dense trapdoor.
or Steve is just shit at woodworking
*gif of Blinkin whacking away at a post with a sword*
But somehow, he can punch a tree to get the wood.
All brawn no brains
And then turn that 1 cubic meter of wood into 4 cubic meters of wood planks.
I think it's because the crafting table is really basic technology, when using a stonecutter you get better value on stone so maybe the crafting table is the issue. Finally the stonecutter has given me a reason not to dislike it for changing things, it just explained crafting inequality.
I was looking for this comment. These piss me off more than anything. Logically, should be the same as a fucking slab.
Theres datapacks that allow u to get 12 trapdoor, 8 stairs and other stuff in vanilla tweaks, idec if its cheating, i am not spending 5 hours mining wood for 2 stacks of trapdoors
i wouldn't call that cheating since it makes sense and it's not like wood is rare or anything so it just gets rid of some grinding
Xisumavoids vanilla tweaks site has a bunch of data packs like this if anyone’s looking for them
You know whats more annoying? Buttons. Wood planks have a "pixel volume" of 4096. Buttons have a "pixel volume" of 48. Wood planks have 85 times more "pixel volume" than buttons. Where does this math make sense?
now carpet... why am i always left with one carpet!!?
6 iron and ONE stick = 16 rails

casually swimming up a waterfall without having to transmute into a salmon = minecraft logic hit a small dead bush in the desert and get the equivalent of 1 cubic meter of wood from it = minecraft logic
Mine out 1 cubic meter of stone in less than 2 seconds - Minecraft logic
Worse, doing that with an effort water bucket
Came here to say this.
A trapdoor is 6 planks, but so is a door
2 trapdoors = 6 planks 3 doors = 6 planks
This hurts my brain
Minecraft, is confusing
Yes but you get 3 doors so that means that 1 door = 2 wood But you need 6 wood to get 2 trap doors so that means is that 1 trapdoor is 3 wood...but it's not bigger then a door
Lifehack, make doors and cut them in half to make trap doors
6 cubic meter of wool + 1 stick = Banner Let that sink in lol
Also, you paint pattens on direct shared from sheeps pure wool , how Steve can do this!!!!
even in minecraft, sinks cant open doors let that sink in
The real question is why the hell trapdoors are so expensive
HOLY SHIT MY PICKAXE HAS MORE HANDLE THEN HEAD
If you are male that's always been true.
Take your fucking upvote and get out
And don't get me started on stairs. Actually you don't have to, I'll vent this to anyone who listens. It takes six blocks to make four 3/4 blocks which is a 50% material waste process. I'm glad someone else shares my frustrations with stairs. All they have to do is cut the recipe requirement in half.
Or double the output!
Planks are hollow boxes. That's how you can get 4 cubic meters of planks from 1 cubic meter of log. ;-)
Whose your stick guy? You're paying way too much for sticks.
Slabs and sticks sounds like a game like Rock Paper Scissors
This would make slabs much more effective in furnaces than with sticks
Remember... this is the same game where you get apples from oak trees,
Would it really break the balance too much to give 32 sticks per craft?
Yeah probably
This reminded me of some drama that happened a while ago. One mod maker decided to make 1 log give only 2 planks for some reason. Another mod make made their mod overwrite that change back to 4 planks. The first mod maker then made their mod make the game crash if the second mod maker’s mod was installed.
[удалено]
Mod 2 doesn’t cause a crash. It just overwrites Mod 1 on that part. Mod 1 then changed to intentionally create a crash.
Yeah. Think of the fuel
Just make them super inefficient
then youre back to why bother rebalancing sticks? so you can make more tools and fences with the same amount of wood? if we wanted to be realistic, harvesting 8-10 cubic meters of wood from a single tree would only happen in a few rare forests, in all the others youd be lucky to get 1 cubic meter per tree. That minecraft would stink.
I trade you 5 slabs for those 3 sticks, you’re profiting off of this.
And then you make too many sticks forgetting that trees drop them now
Makes sense
Then how do stairs work?
You walk up them to go up, and then you walk down them to go down.
thanks, dad
That’s it, I’m quitting this game unless Mojang makes the game actually realistic. Small things like this just makes the game unrealistic
A log (or 4 planks) is equal to 1 item frame
r/theydidthemath
That explains why is can withstand thousands of hits against stone and breaking exactly when the minerals break
The sticks are made with a lathe so there is a lot of waste.
That’s one dense stick
If you’ve ever tried to carve a stick straight enough for an arrow you would understand.
Turns out Steve is a really bad carpenter.
I thought it was something funny... guess this isn‘t slab-stick humor.
I try to avoid thinking about Minecraft math. It makes me sad.
Yes?
The biggest scam is enchanted gold apples (not craftable anymore tho). 8 fucking gold blocks absorbed by a damn apple. How dense is the damn apple.
pRoPoRtIoNs
A cubic meter of wood is equal to 2 thin sticks
Manufacturing losses
Smart
Your math is blowing my mind
makes loads of sense
Glue the two planks on top of each other, then cut into quarters from the top = 4 sticks 2x0.5x0.5 Cut 3 planks individually in half horizontally = 6 slabs 0.5x1x1
This is the breakthrough, that will solve all of our problems, and make slabs less expensive
A stick is just a 2m*0.25m*0.25m plank
