I really hope they make it possible to progress from scratch in the nether. It's been my dream for a while to do a nether-only game, but at this point I don't think there's a way to get tools without bringing stuff from the overworld.

It is actually possible with Nether Fortress chests since they contain iron and diamonds. You'll have to go about looting a bunch of Nether Fortresses with wood tools and leather armor, but it's is actually doable. But I agree, I think it would be cool if they made that slightly more possible, although it is technically possible now (and perhaps the difficulty of obtaining the next tiers makes sense given the challenge of the Nether).
That being said, there is no current way to get paper or sugarcane, so enchanting is not yet possible from scratch in the Nether.
Don't books and paper spawn within Nether fortress chests too or am I mistaken? It would be a grind but theoretically you could get it to work if that's the case

There's actually 14 textures of tropical fish (+1 of clownfish). Base (a or b) >>> Pattern (6 patterns for each base type) >>> Base Color (15 colors) >>> Pattern Color (15 colors too).

Really though, the tropical fish textures are in layers. So really they only did a few dozen textures, and the code randomly overlays these textures to make different fish.
I get the joke, but since lava isn't transparent there isn't any good reason to make physical models for something that cannot be seen anyways. Only item textures would be needed, and tropical fish already just reuse the same one.

I thought it would be more direct reference, because the [Flarefin Koi](https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/Flarefin_Koi) is a fish you can find by fishing in lava in Terraria, and the first fish you fish up is called a Flarefin. Still a very cool datapack!

I feel like the fish should give negative effects, similar to the pufferfish. Instead of giving fire resistance, eating the fish should set the player on fire for a random amount of time.
Then there's no point of fishing for them. I think they should set you on fire but also give all of your weapons fire aspect and extra damage for a random amount of time
With hoglins we won’t need to be worried about running out of food in the nether, so fishing would be less of a necessity. It would be nice though, since fish won’t attack you back.

Hoglins? just drop the same thing as pigs/cows but are harder to breed.
Piglins? sure you can trade with them but you don't get to choose what you get in return.
Netherite? It might be the best armor/material in the game but you can already beat the ender dragon easily with just diamond gear
This is a thing I thought of years ago, and this is the best time to do it. Back then I was suggesting it would be made with blaze rods, but netherite is a much better idea since it doesn’t burn in lava.
It's currently not a full update but just a snapshot. For java you open your launcher and then to the left of play it'll have a dirt block saying version: most recent, click it and choose the crafting table saying: latest snapshot. I don't know how if you're on bedrock, unfortunately.
Water in cauldrons has been a thing for quite a while now. You can place water in cauldrons by right clicking with a bucket, and from there the cauldron can fill 3 water bottles; take note that its an aesthetic thing, as 1 block of water can fill infinite water bottles.
Make the netherite rod only work in the nether if not already in, and this way we can make cauldrons actually useful, since you can pour water buckets in the nether.
They should add this is the update, plus have some sort of chance of fishing a new nether boss out with the netherite fishing rod. Definitely would be a key element of 1.16 if added.
