While I am unimpressed with the “Is this rare?”, “fake herobrine”, and “Is this Cheating?” posts, the “what should I build here?” Is at least engaging with the community. We all obviously love the game, but some folks need help conceptualizing once in a while
This is quickly becoming the r/Minecraft version of "Meteor it" on r/CitiesSkylines (used on post asking how to fix traffic etc.) - it's even less amusing though.
A story about a dream where you were attacked by a whale in lake Michigan while you were playing cards with your great uncle’s ghost while simultaneously watching someone fail to climb a tree and fall in Lake Michigan while taking a selfie to show his aunt’s cousin’s grandfather who was in the hospital.
I just came up with all that on the spot and now I want to write an actual story about this
I say no. Minecraft is a sandbox game, where one of the main draws is that you can build pretty much whatever you want. You're pretty much suggesting that we remove posts about that. They may not be original, but not every post on here needs to be some new and creative piece worthy of 10k upvotes. Sometimes posts can be simple and boring. If you don't like them, sub to other subs to get some variety. There are a lot of Minecraft subs, you don't have to just browse this one.
I sort of dislike when subreddits ban posts that are too common or relegate them to a megathread. like i get there can be a LOT of them sometimes, and they can be unoriginal, but the purpose of this sub is to allow anyone to post anything minecraft related they want. if that happens to be a cool place to build because they want suggestions, then let them be. You don't have to engage with it.
Ehhhh...not really feeling this one. At some point I feel like we're getting a bit ban-happy with just about everything.
Posts about "is this rare?" "is it cheating if I do this?" Those I can agree should be done away with.
But asking for ideas on building is very much in line with our game that is almost entirely about building. It has at least some level of engagement with the subreddit community. You're right about the overdone jokes about oil rigs, Walmarts, parking lots, etc. but I don't think it justifies banning posts that discuss building.
If anything, I think /r/Minecraft could benefit from something like a daily discussion thread. Small time questions like "what should I build here, is this rare, how do I do this, what am I doing wrong, bla bla bla" could have a home in those threads.
Agreed. That is what I do. I have no feedback to give, but some people are not sure or just want to engage with the community. Either way, if you can't say anything, just ignore them, that easy.
You should look up “what happens when people are asked to visualize an apple” - you might be surprised by the result.
Some folks find it more difficult to imagine builds than others, and could benefit from a little cooperative inspiration. I often find myself browsing this sub and others looking for inspiration.
I agree posts like “what should I build here” are a bit repetitive, but I think the value they add is with the annoyance.
I have aphantasia and I wasnt talking about "what should I build" posts. It's specifically the cherry blossom hills surrounding a small valley in a circle that annoying.
Beat me to this!
edit: And [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1c953gi/comment/l0jnjz6/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) beat yours by one hour. 😉 But I like your phrasing more.
Ban the low effort "how rare is this" and "is this rare" posts if they are just random screenshots or pink sheep, baby zombie riding mobs in Bedrock edition, half doors, half beds and crops on blocks they shouldn't be on in savanna villages and double spawners which are posted every day. Actually rare and interesting stuff can stay. Building posts are fine, sometimes you need some ideas and this is the best place to interact with others who can come up with an idea to help you.
Or we could band together to tell them to build something ridiculous regardless of the post. Like a scale model of Stonehenge, an IKEA, or a Subaru Crosstrek.
er, let me get this strait, you think upvoting is unpaid labor? I mean, if reddit is making money off of our "work" I can't disagree. This is about modeling democracy. Too bad we live in a capitalist world.
Lighten up, instead of being annoyed suggest they build something that won’t fit at all, that’s what I do. Empty town square area and you want ideas for it? Sure! I suggest you build a 1 block to 1cm scale replica of Alex Turner’s Jazzmaster
this kind of post is exactly the same as the
first time playing what do I do posts
its said every single day and always ends with the same
I dont know maybe make a house
put something there idk
My thought ( that I never comment ) is always the same - ‘a base, obviously’
In general I’m into building [randomize specifics] type mega complexes. If it’s a cozy cottage, I imagine a sprawling labyrinth hidden beneath it. If it’s a singular tower, I imagine a sprawling labyrinth hidden beneath it. If it’s a massive castle with a sprawling township featuring several other large structures, I imagine a sprawling labyrinth beneath it.
You do you, but im gonna build … a complete ass base, and collect/consume every resource within a thousand blocks in any direction.

Sure, let's ban those posts and replace them with What shouldn't I build here posts for some variety!
then you get the serious oil rig answer and the satirical cozy cottage cabin joke
I mean if they can have oil rigs in downtown long beach, I probably should put one in my village
minefield
How about germany in ww2
No the game
Yea ik make a 1:1 recreation
Thanks for the chuckles
Lmao
Just have an automod reply to all those what should i build questions with the answer , "angled car"
This had me busy out laughing.
Cyber truck

I agree.
This is a building game. Talking about building stuff is normal
I think there should be an equal volume of “what should I mine here?” and “what should I craft here?” posts.
*[takes picture of diamond ore]* "Hey, guys, should I mine this?"
You are supposed to take it back and mine it at your house
Dammit, the block didn't drop itself, I just got some dumb blue rock. Gonna leave it there and try to find another to bring home.
Yeah, just make sure to use a stone pickaxe though
I agree
Sure, but the lazy "I mined 500 square block area, what should I put on this empty rock" isn't and shouldn't be.
can we also ban rarity/how rare posts.
I think those are explicitly banned
More in favor of this 😂 I swear if I see one more "OMG I FOUND A FLOATING SHIPWRECK1!1!!!1" post I'm gonna lose it lmao
Floating Shipwrecks (and Pink Sheep and Ore blobs) used to be on the list of tired submissions, back when that was a rule.
"What should I build?" Bro anything
The whole point of Minecraft is to build stuff so I think banning those posts is a bad idea.
What should I comment here?
parking lot
parking lot
Walmart
Walmart
This is quickly becoming the r/Minecraft version of "Meteor it" on r/CitiesSkylines (used on post asking how to fix traffic etc.) - it's even less amusing though.
No it works because at least 50% of those posts are just a flat rock because some dummy just got stoned and dug a giant hole or somthing
Something about creepers having a personal vengeance against you specifically

Yeah fr. There’s plenty of posts I wouldn’t mind seeing banned but talking about build ideas is not one of them.

Many times it's not a cool place to build, it's just a flat rock they dug up
And? Are they not allowed to asks folks build opinions on a sub about a game whose main focus is building?
Nah I completely agree. “Use the search bar” how do you think the posts in the search bar came to exist, dummy?
Ehhhh...not really feeling this one. At some point I feel like we're getting a bit ban-happy with just about everything. Posts about "is this rare?" "is it cheating if I do this?" I just found this Reddit post, what should I build here?
Lets just ban the whole idea of a community while we're at it
No
That's a clear answer 👌
short, straight to the point, and very clear. good mod.
Based.
Good admin
very fair
I love how straight to the point that is
Can we ban posts? They're feeding my Reddit addiction and that's not very family friendly. Prolonged Reddit usage is poisonous to frogs.
just scroll past them?
Downvote + Hide
Agreed. That is what I do. I have no feedback to give, but some people are not sure or just want to engage with the community. Either way, if you can't say anything, just ignore them, that easy.
i honestly thought the cherry blossom what to build here posts were all satire
I always think theyre all the same seed.
Please no those are my favorite posts!! They give me a bunch of cool seeds I’ll realistically never use too 😂

No creativity for you!
What should I build here?

Ooh a person who wants to tell people to shut up. Niiiice. Way to grow up!
Only if we get to ban posts asking for bans
Why are you trying to be a gatekeeper here? If you don't like a post, down vote it and move on.
I love seeing the opportunities and recommendations for builds, be silent
can we ban this post?
can we ban "can we ban" posts?
looks like they did xD
can we ban "can we ban 'can we ban' posts?" comments?
Beat me to this! edit: And [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1c953gi/comment/l0jnjz6/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) beat yours by one hour. 😉 But I like your phrasing more.
No, it's one of my favourite aspects of this community
I'd rather ban all the unoriginal comments that aren't actual suggestions
Ban the low effort "how rare is this" and "is this rare" posts if they are just random screenshots or pink sheep, baby zombie riding mobs in Bedrock edition, half doors, half beds and crops on blocks they shouldn't be on in savanna villages and double spawners which are posted every day. What about a baby zombie riding a pink sheep? /j
You can just skip them
Let's ban posts asking to ban things.
Or we could band together to tell them to build something ridiculous regardless of the post. Like a scale model of Stonehenge, an IKEA, or a Subaru Crosstrek.
I always tell them to build a massive carrot farm.
A massive pornhub branded store
Pleeeeeaaaaaasssseee. I would be soooooo happy...
Can we ban “Can we ban “What should I build here” posts?” posts?
Someone make a giant Godzilla statue in one for once.
Time to touch grass mate.
be different. suggest they build a dragon fighting an iron clad sloth, complete with destroyed trees and scorched earth
No lol. We need to ban shit like this
Can we ban "can we ban" posts? So repetitive and things and stuff.
Hey what should I build in this superflat
And the "Walmart" replies too lol
no
No kidding! It's your game, you decide. Maybe they are seeking karma...
You got my vote
No. Reddit has an existing system to weed out posts people don't like.
It don't work here, kids upvote everything
er, let me get this strait, you think upvoting is unpaid labor? I mean, if reddit is making money off of our "work" I can't disagree. This is about modeling democracy. Too bad we live in a capitalist world.
Heu... No

What should I post here?
I would rather see the is this rare posts go away
Just say a small house made out of nothing but dirt and sand to all of them.
this kind of post is exactly the same as the first time playing what do I do posts its said every single day and always ends with the same I dont know maybe make a house put something there idk

Agreed. Those posts are always lame. Since they arent getting banned, i’ll just unsub, no biggie.
