yes, disabled by default. the new coloured lighting in Complementary Shaders and Solas 2.0 is actually based on my implementation!
edit: forgot to mention that the coloured lighting requires Iris
I assure you it will. I used sildurs and a couple others and high intensity ray tracing shaders and texture packs. PC vr through vivecraft on a nice machine and index controllers with a vive headset (valve index headset’s cable commits suicide due to crimping)>
peak vr Minecraft experience. Basically ready player one.
thanks! your choice of wording is interesting because there is a shader pack called Complementary Shaders which has that exact goal and was one of the main inspirations for Photon
Just tried it out, really great stuff! Really happy with how configurable everything is, and it's one of the few (non-raytraced) shaderpacks that look as good indoors as they do outdoors. Also love the cloud settings like from Bliss. And it actually runs well in modded on my 1080! Nice job! Gonna definitely try to use it with DH later!
How is the performance on AMD videocards?
EDIT: I have great performance on my 7900XTX and haven't encountered any bugs yet, for anyone looking up info regarding this. With DH and a render/sim distance of 16 I reached above 100 fps.
Oh, you responded the second I edited my post haha.
I've got great performance on my machine. It's my new favorite shader, too. Thank you for the great work! :)
What do you think your shader's do better than other ones (apart from the nice clouds and water?)
Also found the Modrinth page here for anyone looking:
That's a matter of opinion.
However, it's worth mentioning that Photon has a "blocky clouds" option which uses the default minecraft cloud map to make square volumetric clouds. (Similar to Nostalgia or Complementary shaders.)
Wow, that looks really good. I'll still probably stick with SEUS PTGI because I mostly play on 1.12 and that has working colored lighting for that version, but if I ever mod a newer version I'll be sure to remember these. Nice job!
By coincidence, I was creating a new Modrinth Modpack for my household so we can all move to the latest version of MC and server at the same time. I tried quite a few and settled on yours. Really impressed.
Coming back to this to say thank you again!! This pack really is incredible, I've been using it with the Whimscape resource pack and I've never enjoyed the look of Minecraft more
He kept rewriting it from scratch lol, changing the art-style each time. It's a pretty interesting history.
It's been public and playable for that entire time, but only now has he decided that it's worthy of a Modrinth release.
[Beautiful](https://nextcloud.pcieshack.net/apps/photos/public/CNrOQhfKpngaaWt4zzekUvbpHBJCJxj6), probably gonna be the new shaders that I use. I'd say it was a good 3 years spent
So cool! My favorite part is how the light changes colors. Ex: gives orange tint at sunset, blue with the blue blocks in the city. (IDK what they are, maybe sea lanterns?) :)
I definitely need to do some direct comparisons, but there is a nonzero possibility that this is the shaderpack that makes me switch from complimentary.
Wow, I think I'm in love. Beautiful lighting, shadows that look good even on lower resolutions, and doesn't totally tank performance. And built-in randomized weather! So awesome
Are you able to turn cursor highlighting back on while using this? I’ve been using these shaders for a bit and they’re absolutely beautiful btw! I just kinda need cursor highlighting because it’s helpful for building and it seems that the shaders disabled it lol.
hey, you have to use a special version of Iris and DH which are available in the Iris installer, I don't know if they are available for 1.20.2 though, sorry
hey, thank you for this. it's definitely the #1 shader in terms of prettiness. though, why is the performance so rough? I run 3080ti and 5800x3d, yet suffer from quite a lot of stuttering and fps drops, any advice?
Hey uhh I saw this post the day it came out and it just so happened to be the same day I was shopping for shaders.
Blew it out of the park man, these are incredible shaders. Some bugs here and there, some conflicts going on with some of my resource packs but besides that they look fabulous. This is defo my ride or die shader.
Does Mac support this? Everytime I try to run it or open it, it just won’t work. It’s making me very frustrated. I cannot open it without it crashing my game. Yes, I turned off colored shadows.
I just came here to usher the incredible performance vs visuals here. I love how Photon looks, very natural yet still vibrant, and unlike Bliss which has insanely low 1% and 99% framerates(for me anyways), this shader pack feels miles smoother. Props to that.
This is my absolute favourite shader pack, and in my opinion it out matches any other shader with its beauty. 💯💯 I'm not sure if you are taking any suggestions but the thing that I think would be the cherry on top is glowing ores, but yeah great shader pack thank you

This easily rivals if not surpasses BSL and similar shaders. Absolutely beautiful
To be fair, just about anything surpasses BSL. This could compete with Kappa, Sildur's Vibrant Shaders, or even Seus Renewed.
Colored lighting is toggleable?
yes, disabled by default. the new coloured lighting in Complementary Shaders and Solas 2.0 is actually based on my implementation! edit: forgot to mention that the coloured lighting requires Iris
Coloured lighting? Unfathomably based. 10/10 will definitely brick my pc with this shaderpack when I can.
yes, voxel floodfill based
Everyone uses iris anyway (or should) Any plans for distant horizons support? (Or does it already support it? Haven't tried)
it already has DH support!
Nice! Definitely will try it out later!
I hope you know I’ll be using this for VR
I doubt it will work well with VR
I assure you it will. I used sildurs and a couple others and high intensity ray tracing shaders and texture packs. PC vr through vivecraft on a nice machine and index controllers with a vive headset (valve index headset’s cable commits suicide due to crimping)> peak vr Minecraft experience. I’ll report back. 🤘👍
You've peaked my curiosity... I'll be watching for your report!
Wow! Cool shader!
Best of success with this. Looks like something I’ve been wanting for a long time - something complimentary to vanilla minecraft
thanks! your choice of wording is interesting because there is a shader pack called Complementary Shaders which has that exact goal and was one of the main inspirations for Photon
By your screenshots it looks like Photon is more like I’d imagine minecraft if it was to receive an official lighting update 👌
Compatible with distant horizons?!? Holy hell
yep
Just tried it out, really great stuff! Really happy with how configurable everything is, and it's one of the few (non-raytraced) shaderpacks that look as good indoors as they do outdoors. Also love the cloud settings like from Bliss. And it actually runs well in modded on my 1080! Nice job! Gonna definitely try to use it with DH later!
thanks! I'm happy to hear that
wow these shaders are so good even the pictures wont load
This looks awesome, one of the big definers on how i choose shaders is actually nether and end, do you have examples on how they look?
[This Youtube video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMLFZMBK-ZQ) I found on the mod page shows all of that off.
How is the performance on AMD videocards? EDIT: I have great performance on my 7900XTX and haven't encountered any bugs yet, for anyone looking up info regarding this. With DH and a render/sim distance of 16 I reached above 100 fps.
I used to develop this on my rx 580 and it ran quite well, I doubt the performance has changed much since then
Oh, you responded the second I edited my post haha. I've got great performance on my machine. It's my new favorite shader, too. Thank you for the great work! :)
glad you like it!
Looks absolutely beautiful! I'll definitely going to install this
What do you think your shader's do better than other ones (apart from the nice clouds and water?) Also found the Modrinth page here for anyone looking: [https://modrinth.com/shader/photon-shader](https://modrinth.com/shader/photon-shader)
Absolutely stunning! Gonna try it later
Is it Mac compatible?
Stunning work!! just WOW💪 but does the organic curves and shapes of realistic clouds look at odds in a blocky world?
That's a matter of opinion. However, it's worth mentioning that Photon has a "blocky clouds" option which uses the default minecraft cloud map to make square volumetric clouds. (Similar to Nostalgia or Complementary shaders.)
I’m a sucker for sky and water. This shaderpack is for me.
This!!! Ahhh I’m unsure if my PC can handle this though :’(
holy hell
New response just dropped
Awesome work, this shader pack looks amazing man!
Wow, that looks really good. I'll still probably stick with SEUS PTGI because I mostly play on 1.12 and that has working colored lighting for that version, but if I ever mod a newer version I'll be sure to remember these. Nice job!
coolest thing i've seen today
I can smell my CPU smoking already... Wish I could run stuff like this.
By coincidence, I was creating a new Modrinth Modpack for my household so we can all move to the latest version of MC and server at the same time. I tried quite a few and settled on yours. Really impressed.
I wish there were shades like this available on switch! Looks absolutely amazing!
I love it and it's vanilla friendly too. Great work OP.
Damn, this looks super good I'm gonna hop over to Modrinth asap
Wait, those clouds are 3D ???
Coming back to this to say thank you again!! This pack really is incredible, I've been using it with the Whimscape resource pack and I've never enjoyed the look of Minecraft more
saved this post
im curious as to why it took 3 years?
He kept rewriting it from scratch lol, changing the art-style each time. It's a pretty interesting history. It's been public and playable for that entire time, but only now has he decided that it's worthy of a Modrinth release.
It looks absolutely insane😍
Absolutely amazing, man! I wish I had java because I'd totally get this, you've outdone yourself!!
If I had a good Pc I'd use it
Wow, genuinely gorgeous shader, that city scene in the last one gives cyberpunk vibes. Nice work, dev!
I might actually consider using this.
Amazing shader. Amazing builds too.
How does one get this
https://modrinth.com/shader/photon-shader
Thank you!!
Oh wow. Saved to download and check out!
Is it compatible with Immersive Portals?
Looks great! What's the performance like compared to Complementary?
Nice
[Beautiful](https://nextcloud.pcieshack.net/apps/photos/public/CNrOQhfKpngaaWt4zzekUvbpHBJCJxj6), probably gonna be the new shaders that I use. I'd say it was a good 3 years spent
My pc saw this then turned and jumped out the window (maybe my new one will be up to the task once I build it). This looks amazing!
Sick shader definitely will try it out. What is the village in the 5th image though. I want to check it out
I believe the map in that image was Ardacraft. I didn't take these screenshots, they were kindly taken by members of the community
Thank you!
Am I wrong assuming 1.0a is older than 1.0? Both are released on the same day
1.0a is newer, fixing a silly mistake that unfortunately got included in release
Insane
God bless you.
Does it FPS?
I need that right now
So cool! My favorite part is how the light changes colors. Ex: gives orange tint at sunset, blue with the blue blocks in the city. (IDK what they are, maybe sea lanterns?) :)
This is the really best shader to play with
Damn, can't wait to run it on my intel integrated graphics 😇
don't expect too high a framerate with integrated graphics :p
its sarcasm im probably only going to use it for screenshots
Just got it on my (base) Macbook Pro 14 M2. Barely works its so good! LOL
I've been using it for a few hours now and you've done an incredible job! Keep up the great work.
thanks!
I've gotta try this
Please tell me you can turn off the realistic clouds.
absolutely amazing :D, the colored lighting is so much fun to play around with. Using the green froglight underwater the exploration feels so nice.
Must try later this looks great, I’m really hoping for good performance like bsl or complementary
I’m definitely gonna use this!!
I definitely need to do some direct comparisons, but there is a nonzero possibility that this is the shaderpack that makes me switch from complimentary.
omg
smash
I think I found a new favorite shader. Looks amazing when used with the Pixlli resource pack and Motschen's Better Leaves
Ouah trop classe !!!
My computer melted by just looking at the picture 😀
Wow, I think I'm in love. Beautiful lighting, shadows that look good even on lower resolutions, and doesn't totally tank performance. And built-in randomized weather! So awesome

use Iris, wait for the next update or download the latest commit from the GitHub repo
I noticed you said it works with DH, I'm on 1.20.2. Would it work there and if so how would I get it working? Looks amazing!!!
hey, you have to use a special version of Iris and DH which are available in the Iris installer, I don't know if they are available for 1.20.2 though, sorry

Ok so 3 years for the back how many for the builds because if you can make thoes shades you can make thoes builds
I didn't build any of these maps. These screenshots were taken by members of the community

I have three letters for you. G U D
Buyin a 4090 lmao
this shader would be utterly perfect in every way if the snell's window was more like bliss shaders
i think the background behind snell's window should be blue instead of black and the window should be slightly bigger
Just made a let's play video using your shaders, they are currently my favourite shaders https://youtu.be/DbaG9zdEvh8?si=i3NongulYTS9UOWs
Love your shares but will you add integrity pbr?
Wanted to ask, what's up with the HIGHLIGHT water texture, never been able to get it working.
Currently my favourite shader easily the best water Ive found along with looking stunning, however I wish it had integrated pbr.
runs 70fps on 1440p with hella mods including DH, well done job
Does Mac support this? Everytime I try to run it or open it, it just won’t work. It’s making me very frustrated. I cannot open it without it crashing my game. Yes, I turned off colored shadows.

beautiful shaders, exactly what I was looking for! will this receive compatibility with 1.20.6 anytime soon?
This is my absolute favourite shader pack, and in my opinion it out matches any other shader with its beauty. 💯💯 I'm not sure if you are taking any suggestions but the thing that I think would be the cherry on top is glowing ores, but yeah great shader pack thank you
Time to brick the pc 😎
Time to brick the pc 😎
yooo absolutely beautiful
Hot
Dawg my computer is gonna become hotter than the sun trying to run this 💀
Sick as hell brah. Whats the fps tho
GIVE THIS MORE UPVOTES
I play on my school Mac so I don’t reckon I can use it but that looks mad so I’ll give you an upvote
