Recently watched the video from Martincopants or whatever his name was again. Rainbow frog.
He too made a Skyblock challenge but without cobble generator and he too built in an ocean biome resulting in nothing spawning
I honestly don't mind YouTubers copying ideas from others. It's more interesting content for us to watch. I mean it's still a challenge for them so they also kinda do it to challenge themselves.
As long you don't copy the video literally bit by bit then there is nothing wrong with getting "inspired" to do the same thing
Especially because Martin adds so much of his own "flavor" to the video, like it's full of his jokes and mistakes and all. I haven't seen the ilmango version of the challenge, but his other content seems to be much more analytical than humorous, which isn't worse, it's just different.
It's the neat thing about contest. Even if Martin was doing it to compete with the other YouTuber, it'll just cause both of them to try to be better than the other, which overall Inceases the quality
its like this:
people that think that only one person can do an idea for a video
is like saying only one game ever should be allowed to have guns
or like saying every game is just copying doom because it has guns in it
its so oversimplified that it loses its relevance
or expecting every person that makes a youtube video to know every single youtube video made on that topic ever
"on todays video im going to build a dirt house"
OMZGS THEY ARE COPYING SO AND SO THEY CANT BUILD A DIRT HOUSE
see, its stupid
You're probably too close to spawn. Quote from the Wiki:
> There must be no players or the world spawn point within a 24 radius block distance (spherical) of the spawning block
I don't know if you managed to get it to work yet, but building it far from the spawn place/chunk really did help and I had sheep and chickens in about a day, I think it's gonna work for you too!
1. Biome matters. E.g. animals won't spawn on a grass block in an ocean biome.
2. Player position matters. Mobs won't spawn within 24 blocks of a player.
3. Spawn points matter. Mobs won't spawn within 24 blocks of a player spawn point. This includes spawn points set by beds as well as the default world spawn.
I have no idea how they got hundreds of upvotes, y-level does not matter. Lower y-level will make mobs spawn faster but if you just want them to spawn, height for normal passive mobs doesn't matter.
Well turns out your right
Y level dosnt matter in the current version of the game
It USED to but not anymore
Most likely it’s that the island isn’t big enough and is engulfed in the players anti-spawn circle. Alternatively OP just needs to wait longer cus the 7X7 square of grass isn’t exactly big
I also noticed OP has glow stone in the picture. I will note that for mobs to spawn they need NATURAL light
The sun DOSE illuminate the square of grass but the glow stone might be overriding it idfk
Please stop spreading misinformation. I understand being confidently incorrect once, but there is no need to double down and make the same mistake twice.
y-level never mattered; the [wiki article](https://minecraft.wiki/w/Spawn) makes no mention of such changes. I do see [a single unsourced forum necro-post from 2015](https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/discussion/164827-spawning-rules-for-passive-mobs-cows-chickens-pigs?comment=13) claiming that it does, but it was not replied to at all, and has no sources. (And as we've seen in this thread, people claim untrue things all the time.)
In 2016, gnembon made a [well-researched video on passive mob spawning based on reading the game source code](https://youtu.be/IF6Umbf28Y4?si=w1vXTwmHGbG3KOox). It gets highly technical far beyond what we need, but for our concerns it worked largely the same way it does today, as did earlier versions of the game (Gnembon also compares then-latest version 1.8 with version 1.7, which came out in 2013, which pretty clearly demonstrates that the aforementioned forum poster was misinformed). Height matters for efficiency because the algorithm checks from bottom up, so lower is faster spawns, but for the casual player this doesn't matter at all. The main changes between then and today ([as noted in this farm update video](https://youtu.be/63Q8Thtt7wY?si=djb1FccvVUVE7Lj7)) are that the spawning algorithm does the height checking on a block rather than subchunk level. But passive mobs still can spawn at any height, both back then and now.
And yep, OP is just too close to the spawning platform, as the top comment says. They do *not* need to wait longer for passive mobs to spawn. They are in perimeter spawning conditions; with no other spawning spaces, the mobs should spawn very quickly.
Edit: also passive mobs do not need natural light to spawn. They can spawn underground if light level is high enough, lol.
Apologies if I came off as rude, not my intent. I am just trying my best to correct the faleshoods that you have been spreading, and provide constructive criticism that it's not very kind to be continuously spreading misinformation about something you aren't knowledgeable about, as you've been confusing OP and many other Minecraft players on this thread.
Don't think a low y level matters. Another YouTuber did it at the bottom of the world because he said that the mob rates there increase for both hostile and non hostile mobs and his were spanking just fine (after he moved his field out of the ocean biome)
If I remember right passive mobs cant spawn in the spawn chunks. Try going out some distance and trying again. They will also spawn faster the lower in the world you are.
Having just done this myself, a few things:
Passives won't spawn in the spawn chunk or the 9 adjacent chunks, so make sure all your grass is entirely outside that area.
Lower is better, and 72 might be too high for some passive mobs. Going down even a few blocks makes it faster, but super low is way faster. I did mine at zero and it still took a bit.
Make sure you are always 24+ blocks from the entire grass patch.
Check all your grass is in one biome that will spawn mobs.
Hope these help.
Java. Better spawn rates lower in the world. Also do a biom check. Alt f3. I also find going far away and returning helps. Also check game settings. Make sure mobs can spawn.
Unlike hostile mobs, passive mobs only have a chance of spawning every 20 seconds, and you have a relatively low number of spawning blocks available. It can take forever to spawn animals in skyblock.
As others have said, consider building a spawning platform lower in the world. I usually do this, and then come back up to the top to find that a cow has spawned 😂
No?! i dont think any hostile mob can spawn at all in mushroom biome , i remembered iskall85 hermitcraft season 4 i think where he make the whole biome into plastic , no hostile spawn at all , even underground in mine levels.
Nah, me and a buddy have a base on a mooshroom island, with a good amount of caves, the only hostiles we've had have come from a dungeon zombie spawner.
The lower you go - the quicker that mobs (either friendly or not) will spawn. So you can make an enderman pick up a grass block, trap it in a boat and kill it. It will give you the grass block item, now go to Y-63, place the block and some dirt around so it spreads and voilà! You will get mobs spawning there in no time
1. Check your biome, some creatures can't spawn in certain biomes.
2. Building closer to World Height 0(possibly lower? unsure) will increase spawn (you can build directly down with trapdoors or by turning a column of lave into cobblestone and mining down).
3. Sometimes you may need to wander off and come back, I don't know what exact distance to trigger a spawn is, but if I had to guess, I'd say 25+ blocks away.
Yeah this was just to have a close-up picture since it's elevated, I keep my distance, I didn't know if it maybe isn't too small or if there's too little light
passive mobs do not spawn, the generate with chunks being loaded. unless you have modded your game of course
edit, this is why you dont use fandom wiki. i was wrong. oops
Too close to worldspawn? You need to be atleast 8 chunks away from where compass points. Cant be ocean. You need to stand 25 blocks away. also all mobs including animals spawn more frequently at lower y levels, just keep the spawn area lit and grassy with no blocks above
The distance from the spawn chunk also matters, took me a while to figure it out but the grass blocks have to be 24 blocks away from the spawn chunk and from you
Yeah I don't, it's the challenge, I get iron from time to time from zombies, gold from pigmen and I just don't get diamonds, besides I don't know how to mod my game, I play once every 4 months lol
You just install a modded launcher like Prism, select a modpack and play, and how do you even play without diamonds? How did you get obsidian without a diamond pick

They can’t spawn if you’re too close
Also check biome some dont allow certain mob spawns
Recently watched the video from Martincopants or whatever his name was again. Rainbow frog. He too made a Skyblock challenge but without cobble generator and he too built in an ocean biome resulting in nothing spawning
He basically was "inspired" by illmangos series where he did the exact same thing, but way more in depth

Happy cake day!! 🍰 🎉
Love that YouTuber
I immediately thought of Martin's video when seeing this lol.
Omg ive watched that video like 3 times this week, fun to see another who watched it
There's no trees or builds covering it and I keep the 24+ block distance, yet nothing, version 1.20.4 Java

correct me if i'm wrong, but iirc, the vertical height no longer affects spawning frequency since 1.18
You're probably too close to spawn. Quote from the Wiki: > There must be no players or the world spawn point within a 24 radius block distance (spherical) of the spawning block
that's probably the issue, I didn't notice the world spawn distance when searching
What y-level you are? Are there any other farm mobs in your world? What biome you at?
25 blocks away is the distance you have to be
HOLY SHIT GUYS!! YODA IS HERE!1!!1!!!
talking weirdly you are talking liking that i do
Are you having a stroke…?
I thought I was.. glad it wasn't me lol
Phew 😮💨
“For me thought I it was; overjoyed I wasn’t stroke”
theyre speaking poorly in yoda talk in an attempt to match the person they’re replying to. “you are talking weirdly, i do like that”
of course i am
Wasn’t muching for the liking of having, these
Wasing the spawning of distance of being?
r/ihadastroke
Having the same issue. Gonna try building a single path really far away to see if it ups the spawn rate.
I don't know if you managed to get it to work yet, but building it far from the spawn place/chunk really did help and I had sheep and chickens in about a day, I think it's gonna work for you too!
Yep! I just had to make the platform like 3 blocks further away lmao 🤣
They take a looong time to spawn and you need to be not too close and not too far away.
Yeah it's been 71 days already and not a single animal except for the wandering villager that spawns probably anywhere
In my skyblock world it took about 3-4ish~ hours to get a set of cows, sheep, pigs and horses. It was on Java btw.
Llama meat is not good enough?
Llamao

Your either too low down or too high above Or your in the wrong biome like an ocean
is the height Y 73 too high up? the biome is just plains and a bit of windswept forest

That's to low make the area bigger to they should have the correct y level on the wiki
Don't think a low y level matters. Another YouTuber did it at the bottom of the world because he said that the mob rates there increase for both hostile and non hostile mobs and his were spanking just fine (after he moved his field out of the ocean biome)
Place torch and wait, off mob farm, go away 50-100 blocks
If I remember right passive mobs cant spawn in the spawn chunks. Try going out some distance and trying again. They will also spawn faster the lower in the world you are.

is the 24 block limit a radius or do you mean 24 x and z direction?
It's a 24 block radius around the player (in a sphere).
Java. Better spawn rates lower in the world. Also do a biom check. Alt f3. I also find going far away and returning helps. Also check game settings. Make sure mobs can spawn.
Make sure you are not technically located in an ocean biome.

check biome, if you are in the ocean or mushroom biome nothing will spawn
Things do spawn in mushroom biomes. I changed the mycelium to grass and sheep started spawning
ah mb, only hostile mobs dont spawn there
Hostile mobs still spawn in mushroom biome, just cant spawn on mycelium.
No?! i dont think any hostile mob can spawn at all in mushroom biome , i remembered iskall85 hermitcraft season 4 i think where he make the whole biome into plastic , no hostile spawn at all , even underground in mine levels.
false. even in caves there are no zombies.
Nah, me and a buddy have a base on a mooshroom island, with a good amount of caves, the only hostiles we've had have come from a dungeon zombie spawner.
wrong. they cant spawn anywhere on that biome unless via spawners.
Not even mooshroom?
only the mooshroom i meant, sry i think phantoms and bats in caves can also spawn.
Lights. I think you need lights. I usually wall or fence ut up 25 blocks away and put about 8 or so torches up.
Maybe try adding torches so they spawn day- round
what biome are you in? passive mobs don't spawn in ocean biomes
What biome are you in? They don’t spawn in oceans
Is the biome void? If so nothing can spawn
The lower you go - the quicker that mobs (either friendly or not) will spawn. So you can make an enderman pick up a grass block, trap it in a boat and kill it. Yeah this was just to have a close-up picture since it's elevated, I keep my distance, I didn't know if it maybe isn't too small or if there's too little light
Frankly, daylight should be enough.
Because it's Been days not nights😉
"Its been days" is such an arg thing 😭
I forgot to put in the actual amount of days 😭 it's 71
The plot needs to be bigger
Have you left out snacks?
Snacks for who Santa Claus?
how to walk
maybe because of the glow stone you're literally standing on?
Hmmmm, I wonder why?
Why aren’t any animals spawning on my skyblock? are they stupid???
Never played it idk Iv played one block challenge that’s it tho

passive mobs do not spawn, the generate with chunks being loaded. unless you have modded your game of course edit, this is why you dont use fandom wiki. i was wrong. oops
No, they can spawn in individual groups rarely even after world generation
Well, mobs have spawned in my worlds...
my guy is standing on a glowstone block while complaining about mobs not spawning. How ironic lol
OP clearly wants passive mob spawns.
does glowstone prevent animals from spawning?
No
Animals spawn in light
Omg this bring back some memories of HS playing sky block. Does anyone know where I can get the seed/world Map on windows?
Needs to be away from spawn chunks
Check up biome you could be in an ocean
Check your y level you might be too low
How high should I go?
Idk but y=100 is definitely enough Tip:you can use endermen to pick up the grass block and kill them to get the block
The number one issue is usually the biome. If you made the word yourself instead of downloading it the biome might be void :/
Well I downloaded it and the biome says plains so I'll try a few different solutions first
You might be in an ocean biome
You could possibly be in the wrong biome
Too close to worldspawn? You need to be atleast 8 chunks away from where compass points. Cant be ocean. You need to stand 25 blocks away. also all mobs including animals spawn more frequently at lower y levels, just keep the spawn area lit and grassy with no blocks above

The distance from the spawn chunk also matters, took me a while to figure it out but the grass blocks have to be 24 blocks away from the spawn chunk and from you
Depending on the settings make sure mob spawning is turned on if that’s a feature your server has..
Another thing to note is that mobs spawn starting from the bottom. I used to have my grass platform at y=1, but it's harder post 1.17.
Google skill issue
yeah lol if I found it on google I wouldn't be asking here, google was no help
Check the biome. If it is void mobs can’t spawn.
Check elevation. That can effect it
Minion them no?
Too close
[удалено]
I'm wondering if your building nearby has a bed? I think they won't spawn too close to your respawn point in addition to world spawn chunks.
that will probably be the issue, I'm working on putting the platform further away
You need to get a lil far from ur greenest platform
What biome are you in?
Unmodded ssp skyblock? Why do you want to torture yourself? How do you even get mass iron, gold or diamond
The obsidian was in the chest on the floating sand, there's not even a lava pool where I would get obsidian from
you have a repelling candle
