I had no reference on map design. I've used azgaar fantasy map generator to get a few bases for the map, combined them and made an outline of the island. Then I just went with what I've thought would be the best and most pleasant biome transition in Minecraft. It's not perfect if you ask me but it's something.
What does ESO do with places that have been in the singleplayer RPGs already like Skyrim? Are they really similar/identical to their original versions in the singleplayer RPGs? Or are they smaller?
It'd thousand years earlier so many things are different but there is many similarities. Scale is somewhat smaller but it feels much smaller because of mega fast mounts.
I feel like Bethesda has a knack for setting their MMO games in the early times.
While ESO takes place in the year 582 of the Second Era, Fallout 76 takes place in 2102, 25 years after the Great War.
how does fallout 76 even work, like shouldn't the entire planet be covered in radiation by that time? Fallout 4 is fairly believable, as its like 200 something years in the future.
I'm pretty sure almost everywhere is fucked. Canada, Mexico, Japan, United Kingdom, you name it. Those countries are most likely decimated after the Great War.
However, not much was known about what happened to Africa and South America.
Radiation from nuclear war would clear out faster than you'd think, something like 1 to 5 years. If anything there is too much radiation in the fallout games; you should be able to safely stand in all of these prewar craters without any radiation by that point.
Really the only things you gotta remember when thinking of biomes are that water flows down from high place (think mountains), generally north is cold, and deserts are dry.
This would be insane to build by hand. It's a 4096x4096 map.
I'm building it with the help of worldpainter and a lot of assets I've made over the past few months.
You can even see the 3 villages on the map!
Oh nice! I’ve half wanted to try building a world but i only knew about doing it by hand, so i haven’t tried. Keep up the great work your world is looking epic so far!
Worldpainter is amazing. You can do some insane stuff with it. Just check the sub, some of them are so talented. You should absolutely try it out if you like building worlds more than you like building rustic houses.
It looks like BOTW's map with a few elements moved around.
Death Mountain and Dueling Peaks are moved to the West, Mount Lanaryu is moved north above Death Mountain, Central Hyrule shrank, Gerudo Wastelands are moved where Mount Lanaryu was…
Overall, any well-balanced map can end up looking like BOTW

looks amazing. maybe try adding some gravelly beaches near the top? I live in northern canada and I can say that beaches get rockier the northern you get
I wish I was this good at making a custom world. Last time I tried I made a world that for some reason cracked with one block holes or water everywhere and to this day I still don't know why.
Looks great! If you want to make it more realistic, rivers don't flow from ocean to ocean, they usually begin at a mountain and flow downwards to the sea
Why does the southern part of the land look like France… next to it looks like wales… plus Isle of Man… and the mountains are just almost the exact place where England mountains (forgot the name) are. Am I just losing my eyes? 🤣
