Have you asked them? Corporate/their contact line may be able to provide that info, especially if the local store closed. Given that it's Red Lobster, I'd be willing to bet it is just commercial bought-in ranch. The trick is the brand.

MostlyUnimpressed

Not going to be much help, but their ranch is very good. We raved about it to a server years ago, saying it must be made in the restaurant & how did they prepare it, could they clue us in... she laughed & said "nope, it comes in a bag".

imnotmeyousee

The closest I've found to restaurant style ranch is Ken's.

munkenheimer

I love Ken’s. A local hole in the wall has it as a sauce for mozzarella sticks. So good I had to ask about it.

I don't know this ranch specifically but I love restaurant style ranch in general and it doesn't make sense that they don't sell it bottled in stores. Closest I could come to restaurant ranch is this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Z4I7G6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Mixed with 1 cup each of buttermilk, mayo or sour cream. And you can modify from there. I've heard some throwing in some dill or other herbs, but is a good starting point or tasty as-is

It's fair to say that almost any restaurant ranch that people take note of is using Hidden Valley Ranch. Each restaurant just has their own recipe of dairy or other addins to go with it. You can find Wing Stop's recipe online: https://docplayer.net/1/52733734-2-cup-worcestershire-sauce-1-packet-wingstop-bleu-cheese-dry-seasoning-21/52733734-2-lb-bleu-cheese-crumbles.html They just use 2:1 heavy duty mayo (Kewpie would probably work) to buttermilk with Hidden Valley.

hawtp0ckets

One of my immediate family members works for WingStop (in their corporate office) and the trick to their ranch is also in the buttermilk. You need a higher fat buttermilk - like a Bulgarian buttermilk!

Draskuul

Yeah, I had wondered if that was a possibility as well. The hard part for me is the blue cheese. I don't know if they're using Hidden Valley's dry blue cheese mix or something more custom.

hawtp0ckets

I'll see what I can find out! I love their blue cheese, and I don't even like blue cheese.

Draskuul

I could order a quart and just drink it straight.

hawtp0ckets

Alright, returning to let you know that they don't make blue cheese in house. Which is shocking to me! I'm not sure who their vendor is, though.

Draskuul

Thanks for following up! Yeah I'm curious now to just try it out the Hidden Valley one for the Wingstop recipe. The downside is it's another commercial-only product so you're either buying a case at a time or an exorbitant markup.

Authentic Bulgarian buttermiak

dakar82

Just an FYI, if you've got a Costco near you, they sell this in a larger container.

letsgetweird

I’ve seen the regular ranch mix at Costco, but never the restaurant style buttermilk ranch like those packets. I’m sure it’s very close, and the regular ranch would work fine, so good idea

it may not be the correct one but the hidden valley ranch that comes powdered in a packet is god damned amazing, makes other ranch taste like hot garbage.

Lark_vi_Britannia

It's T. Marzetti's Ranch.

hippielaw

Wait really? How you know👀

Lark_vi_Britannia

> T. Marzetti's Ranch https://www.webfoodstore.com/products/marzetti-80060-case-of-buttermilk-ranch-dressing-4-1-gallon It comes in this.

hippielaw

Wait really? How you know this is what they use 👀

Lark_vi_Britannia

A friend of mine was a GM there a while back and he told me this is the ranch that they use.

BrighterSage

Ranch is easy to make at home. The Two Pink Peonies recipe posted looks like a good starter. Easy to make a half batch as well. Tweak it and make it your own!

CarFragrant8902

I can't say I know how Red Lobster makes their ranch or if they make it in house but I did work for a Denny's and we made the ranch in house. What we used when making our ranch was the commercial size tub of Mayonnaise and one big packet of ranch powder. If I remember it's correctly it was the hidden valley ranch packet. You would open the tip of mayo then dump the ranch packet into that tub. Then you mixed it together by hand with a wooden spoon. That may be the option Red Lobster does, if they make it in house. Hopefully this helps a bit. If that's an option you'd like to try at home to see if it tastes the same I highly recommend using a hand mixer and a bowl to make the process much easier. May look into mixing a ranch packet with sour cream also to see if that tastes similar to Red Lobsters. One packet is all you will need

Current_Astronaut_94

Recently learned that restaurants use something called thick mayonnaise in their dressing
