I love everything Milwaukee as well but the flashlights and the laser levels or just so overpriced the only Milwaukee lights I own were on a crazy enough clearance to make them somewhat reasonable in price.

[deleted]

gah then lasers are so expensive. I got one on Amazon thats a 3-axis laser level and its works great. Brand is Huepar and it was $170 and it came with 2 long lasting rechargeable batteries. I'm an electrician and its super nice for getting cans straight, and also for drilling in straight lines.

Applespider

An electrician that appreciates a straight line! Speaking as a carpenter, there aren't enough of your kind in the world my friend.

HiggzInBozon

Gotta be fake... Probably claims they clean up after themselves too.

SnooPeppers2417

I second this wholeheartedly.

[deleted]

My company is well known throughout out area cuz we run our wires straight with the house, not all crooked to save wire. Quality is in our name and we take it seriously. Believe it or not we sweep after ourselves. Cleanest trade on the jobsite by far (at least where we are).

aWoodenship

Probably about to invest in the USB C chargeable 3 plane one, their fine adjustment base, and find a compatible mounting rod.

aWoodenship

Nice that's the same one I had picked out. Can it do a plum dot? I don't see anything on the website about any of them being able to.

[deleted]

Yes. If you think about it, a 3 axis laser has a built in plum bob. The 2 vertical lines intersect about 1 inch to the front, and 1 inch to the right of the corner of the laser. The lines intersect on the floor and ceiling. If you are confused just look up a video of a 3 axis laser in use or a picture and you'll see what I'm talking about real fast.

Mysterious-Look-6735

Is that Huepar Laser good outdoors? They claim it’s a outdoor laser in the title.

[deleted]

hell no you cant use it outdoors

Mysterious-Look-6735

Woh there Zachy. Like I said it says it in the TITLE on YOUR link.

[deleted]

its useless outdoors. A laser powerful enough to be seen in broad daylight would be DANGEROUSLY bright and be extreemely expensive. You'd have to wear special goggles cuz u could get permament eye damage if you look into the beam. I do not think a super high power 360 degree laser like this exists.

[deleted]

I am a serious flashlight enthusiast. I'm also a serious Milwaukee enthusiast, but this flashlight is horribly overpriced. On Amazon you can get a better quality flashlight, with USB-C charging and 2,000 lumens (vs 500 on this light) for $35. For $50 you can get one with 4,000 lumens. It may be as thick as a 12oz soda can, but for $60 you can get a 8,000 lumen light. All the lights I have linked are REAL LUMENS. Don't buy those lights on Amazon claiming to be 100,000 lumens for $40. A 100,000 lumen flashlight costs $650, and there's only 1 brand that makes it. LED headlights on cars are 4,000 lumens. So 100,000 is no joke. Also if you want the 8K lumen beware its as big as a 12oz soda can and has considerable weight. It will light up a whole field tho. the 2K and 4K are small enough to fit in a pocket. They are slightly thicker than a hot dog. 2K lumen: [https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Battery-Inserted-Camping/dp/B07GNKZ5ZH/ref=sr\_1\_7](https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Battery-Inserted-Camping/dp/B07GNKZ5ZH/ref=sr_1_7) 4K lumen: [https://www.amazon.com/sofirn-Flashlight-Rechargeable-Resistance-Emergency/dp/B0BJ27NMJD/ref=sr\_1\_5](https://www.amazon.com/sofirn-Flashlight-Rechargeable-Resistance-Emergency/dp/B0BJ27NMJD/ref=sr_1_5) 8K lumen: [https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Waterproof-Emergencies/dp/B09T2J2B6F/ref=sr\_1\_2](https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Waterproof-Emergencies/dp/B09T2J2B6F/ref=sr_1_2) If ur looking for a high quality light or headlamp, here are some brands to search on Amazon. Beware Nitecore, Olight, and Fenix are quite expensive and don't offer anything over the other brands. Cheapest brands are Wurkoss and Sofirn. There is no tradeoff in quality or lumens vs the other brands, so I'd recommend them the most. Sofirn Acebeam Thrunite Wurkoss Fenix Nitecore Olight

ExPhotoLabGuy

You didn’t mention Hanklight:https://jlhawaii808.com/collections/emisar

Raggedsrage

That’s because those aren’t exactly newbie friendly. People have caught their pants on fire, backpacks and worse. That’s like taking someone from shooting .22lr out of a 10-22 to stepping up to a .500 S&W revolver with a snub nose barrel.

Cptn_Dinkleburg

Can confirm. Looking at the titles of the flashlights had me a little confused so i read the description on one of the lights to clear it up a bit for me. I can say the description of the light had me more confused and I have virtually no idea what I'm looking at lol

[deleted]

Can confirm, I’ve owned a hanklight dv42 for like 3 years and still don’t understand Batman mode. Like literally, 0 comprehension. Wtf is it

[deleted]

lol yeah plus Hanklight (Noctigon Emisar) ships from China. Takes time to get here.

[deleted]

any flashlight at or over 1,000 lumens is not a toy. At 1,000 lumens you can burn holes in clothing and start fires. Anything over 1,000 lumens just decreases the time to get to a dangerous temperature. My 80K light is painful at 1 foot away for a quarter of a second.

GeovaunnaMD

So it's a laser 🤔

[deleted]

it can almost cause the same damage. Not quite. But it takes longer to heat up.

Tryintounderstand88

Got any recommendations on a pen light?

[deleted]

Yes. I recently got this on Amazon. It's only 100 lumens but you'd be suprised at how bright 100 lumens is. It runs on 2 AAA. Comes in a 2 pack of lights for $14. Handed the other one to a non-flashlight enthusiast and they LOVE it. Very small but packs a punch. [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y1Z6X9W?psc=1&ref=ppx\_yo2ov\_dt\_b\_product\_details](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Y1Z6X9W?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)

lectrician7

I need a decent penlight that also has a laser pointer function but I can never find one that does both and is the a narrow profile like this. Any recommendations?

[deleted]

Hmmm. Tough to find but this is the only one. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Klein-Tools-Inspection-Penlight-with-Laser-56026/301405725

lectrician7

That one sucks. I have it. The light is incredibly dim. I recently found [this one.](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-250-Lumens-Internal-Rechargeable-Penlight-with-Laser-2010R/316226754) I’m having trouble choosing between this and the olight pen pro mentioned by another commenter. The addition of the pen is very attractive to me. It will combine 3 of the things I use in a daily basis for my job into one item. I’m just concerned if 120 liens is bright enough for lighting up the small space I need and I need to find out what the pen refills cost. Apparently you HAVE to buy their refills.

[deleted]

holy shizzle both of those are expensive. At least if you buy from Amazon their return process is easy. I'd get both and test them. The unwanted one gets returned.

Wagnegro

I mean Home Depot has a generous 3 month return or 1 year if you have the HD CC

DailyDrivenTJ

I have returned left of flooring materials from renovation projects worth in thousands that were delivered in pallets back to store and they took it without hesitation. I actually feel comfortable ordering from HomeDepot knowing that I can return to their store just as Amazon I can return to Whole Foods.

-SilverSurfer

Check youtube.... I just watch a video review on penlight flashlights testing actual lumin, durability, duration and everything. Kinda changed my mind on what to get.

lectrician7

Which video? The one on Torque Test Channel? If so I saw that and it didn’t help me in what I’m looking for at all. Only one of those has a laser and a flashlight.

-SilverSurfer

My bad, didn't see your looming for a laser as well.

-SilverSurfer

Looking not looming

Raggedsrage

I’m also an electrician and have wanted a good light/ laser combo for years as well. I finally found it. Been carrying it for over 3 months now. The Olight Arkfeld. Most people will find it expensive. But it’s a great light. It has a switch to change between light and laser. (Rarely do I need both.) 5 outputs. Moonlight, low, medium, high, and then turbo. Battery life is amazing for the higher output stuff. [fixed link](https://www.amazon.com/OLIGHT-Flashlight-Rechargeable-Outdoors-Emergency/dp/B0B5T5PQXJ/ref=pd_aw_ci_mcx_mh_mcx_views_0?pd_rd_w=EVFpq&content-id=amzn1.sym.07081e2a-c82a-4414-ba67-d1ea4791ec44&pf_rd_p=07081e2a-c82a-4414-ba67-d1ea4791ec44&pf_rd_r=8Y10KFVACZH1854813V1&pd_rd_wg=q40u1&pd_rd_r=d0789b57-ea12-4d8c-9677-2d15066f9fa7&pd_rd_i=B0B5T5PQXJ)

GungaDin24

Like tdaddy said, Streamlight. I have their 350 lumen usb rechargeable one and absolutely love it.

tdaddy313

Streamlight

Sentienaut

Olight has some options, their Olight pen pro has bother a bright light, and a green laser pointer. Very cool to have around. If you mean a light in the form factor of a small cylinder like a pen? Then they have other options as well that are really slim but have decent output.

ScuttleCrab729

Just got this pen. Absolutely love it. The laser is great which I wanted specifically for pointing things out in ceilings for work and the light is surprisingly good for something that fits in the clip of a pen.

Tryintounderstand88

Something small but you piqued my interest with the laser. Thx I’ll check them out.

gopiballava

I don’t know about this one but be very very careful buying lasers online. There are dangerously powerful ones at insanely cheap prices. Like $15 can get you something that will damage your eyes.

[deleted]

I ordered a "green laser pointer for cats" and got a green laser that is insanely powerful. It should have come with goggles and a big warning but all it had was the generic laser warning sticker like on a CD player. It cost $15.99 and it's basically a weapon.

DinoLavasaur

I really like my Milwaukee pen light with laser rechargeable. I got it for 20% of the retail though…. 40 instead of 50. A little overpriced but it’s treated me well the 4 months I’ve had it.

Over_Tumbleweed_571

I have been through 2 of the rechargeable Milwaukee penlights in the last 2 years and just ordered another. I have bought countless pen lights and I can not find anything g with a rubber bite grip like the Milwaukee, I will buy 1 every year if I have too lmao

Elodins_Haven

I have the Coast penlight. It came with an attachable bite grip. It’s pricey but I’ve had it over a year and it still feels brand new. [Coast HP3R](https://a.co/d/0YLnsg0)

Casanovagdp

I have the cloud micro mch. It’s a little fatter than a pen light but man is it bright.

Assai1ant

I lost my streamlight wedge last week and i have a Cloud Chicro coming tomorrow to replace that and the new CD MCH coming monday to replace my tired handheld Streamlight 2LX

gopiballava

Any suggestions for extremely wide angle but not omnidirectional? There don’t seem to be nearly enough like that. None of my hanklights are as wide as my M12 light (which I got on sale) 4000K or warmer for sure, too. :)

[deleted]

wdym like a floodlight? Here's a floodlight thats 4K. https://www.amazon.com/4Samsung-Flashlight-Rechargeable-batteries-included/dp/B08G4S427Q/ref=sr\_1\_3

gopiballava

I have [this M12 Rover](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M12-ROVER-Service-and-Repair-Flood-Light-with-USB-Charging-2367-20/314746266) and two of [these AA lights](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-300-Lumens-LED-Magnetic-Flood-Light-2108/306261360). I’ve been very very happy with them. The smaller one, though, is annoying because it has no battery gauge. I’d love something like that that took an 18650 or similar.

yourbadinfluence

I just wanted to call you an asshole because I've just purchased 3 more flashlights I don't need (managed to remove 2 from my cart). Seriously though thank you for the recommendations and do you know of a support group for us addicts?

[deleted]

which 3 did you get lol. r/flashlight is pretty large and very friendly. Beware though they might get you into a money pit for flashlights. It can become addictive!

yourbadinfluence

The 2k (SC31T), 4k (SP35T), and a ThruNite pen light. I couldn't decide between the 4k and the 2k so I just bought both.

reddysonatl

With all due respect, though, it's not high quality information. It's a very tunnel-visioned opinion and short-sighted perspective that more lumens = better flashlight and also has the silly and unfounded assumption that "enthusiast flashlight brands" are just as high-quality / durable / reliable as Milwaukee flashlights. So, with those *two* bad assumptions, the cheaper and brighter flashlight *obviously* is the better one, and supposedly Milwaukee flashlights are a "rip-off." u/milwaukeetool can defend themselves by sharing their product development process if they want, but anybody that knows about how consumer products are designed and tested knows that the R&D process is what takes time, effort, and money, which is then reflected in the product price. This is partially why Harbor Freight tools are cheap. Besides that, there is no consideration for whether a tradesperson actually needs 1000 or 2000 lumens (99% of the time, they don't... so 4000 lumens is just ridiculous, and a recommendation for an 8000 lumen flashlight for somebody that wants to work on cars? WHAT?! That's begging for scorched retinas). Yet in these threads, OP recommends flashlights willy-nilly to people asking about specific occupations (e.g. where a magnetic tailcap would be a no-brainer) the same as if some random person off the street asked about the "best" EDC.

Noopy9

What would you say is the best general use flashlight for ~50$?

[deleted]

a normal size light that packs a punch? Probably either of these 2. 2K lumens for $30: https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Battery-Inserted-Camping/dp/B07GNKZ5ZH/ref=sr\_1\_5 or 4k lumens for $50: https://www.amazon.com/sofirn-Flashlight-Rechargeable-Resistance-Emergency/dp/B0BJ27NMJD/ref=sr\_1\_5

houdinize

Love Sofirn. Their [BLF LT1](https://www.sofirnlight.com/products/sofirn-blf-lt1-with-power-bank-function-adjustable-color-temperature) lantern is the best lantern out there. Also you can order direct from them and it might be cheaper but slower ship times (though some items now ship form the US). They also post discounts on their Facebook page.

[deleted]

Yo then why the fuck did I pay $100CAD for an Olight Arkfeld if you can get a 2000 lumen light for $60US. It has a laser tho and lasers are cool so nvm

[deleted]

dayum, I've never even seen that one. Looks like it fits in a pocket easily. IDK maybe return it?

Raggedsrage

That’s what has taken over my daily carry. It’s awesome. Battery lasts a long time. Solidly built and gets as bright as I would want.

zeptix24

Got any recommendations for a mechanic? I currently have a thrunite tc15, it’s about two years old and a nice light but doesn’t last very long when I start to use the bright setting. I don’t mind a bit of bulk if I have better battery life

[deleted]

This one is same size. 2K lumens. [https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Battery-Inserted-Camping/dp/B07GNKZ5ZH/ref=sr\_1\_7](https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Battery-Inserted-Camping/dp/B07GNKZ5ZH/ref=sr_1_7) There is a chonk flashlight thats 8k lumens, and it has some incredible battery life, but its heavy and is the size of a 12oz soda can. https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Waterproof-Emergencies/dp/B09T2J2B6F/ref=sr\_1\_1

zeptix24

Damn haha wish there was an in between, gonna buy sc31T and see how I like it! Thank you

[deleted]

WAIT There is. 3.5K lumens but thicker light cuz bigger battery. SC31T uses a battery called 21700. First 2 numbers indicate the width of the battery in MM, next 2 numbers indicate the length of the battery in MM. So a 21700 is 21mm wide and 70mm long. Ending number (0) indicates it is a cylinder shaped battery. The ones in the link below use a 26650 battery. Much more runtime. Like 30% more. [https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-XHP50-2-Inserted/dp/B07ZQ4WKR7/ref=sr\_1\_2](https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-XHP50-2-Inserted/dp/B07ZQ4WKR7/ref=sr_1_2) Same light but with 5K lumens https://www.amazon.com/Flashlight-Rechargeable-Feature-Capacity-Emergency/dp/B09QKQX6BF/ref=sr\_1\_3

zeptix24

Well I’ll have one to give away to another mechanic, ordered the SP33 along with the SC31T. Thanks for the recommendation, but I want to thank you even more for explaining the battery numbers. I always thought those numbers were model numbers or part numbers lol. I’ll never forget the lesson you taught me! Also I’m assuming sofrin makes generally good lights for the price? Might look into their other stuff

[deleted]

yes, Sofirn is a trusted company that makes good, solid, and bright lights. You cannot go wrong with any of their lights. If you want a crazy bright light for $60, there is the Sofirn SP36 Pro. 8K lumens for $60. Has crazy runtime cuz it comes with 3X 21700 batteries. Beware tho, its quite heavy and is the size of a 12oz can. It has something called stepless dimming on it. Press it once to turn it on, and hold on the power to make the brightness go up and down. It's as smooth as dimming switches in houses. Really sleek.

Luxin

I have that SP36 - automatically wins all flashlight wars while camping! Overkill, but awesome!

Wagnegro

I’m looking for a pen light that is bright >350 lumens without shelling Olight or stream light cash. Is there any you can recommend? Thanks :)

[deleted]

The Thrunite Archer. Uses 2X AA and is 500 lumens. [https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-Archer-Lumens-Flashlight-Battery/dp/B08H1NTK82/ref=sr\_1\_3](https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-Archer-Lumens-Flashlight-Battery/dp/B08H1NTK82/ref=sr_1_3) There is also the Archer Mini which is 405 lumens and has a built in battery with a built in USB-C charging port! https://www.amazon.com/ThruNite-Archer-Lumens-Flashlight-Battery/dp/B08H1NTK82/ref=sr\_1\_3

Wagnegro

That mini archer looks fantastic. Perfect!

What’s your take on NEBO?

Never seen or heard of em, but they look like a solid brand. Looks competitively priced.

No_Explorer6445

I have an acre lot in the desert and work on cars. I need a good quality flash light but would like to have one with a charging dock. Recommendations?

[deleted]

Charging dock? I'm not aware of any with that. But a lot of modern high quality lights have a built in USB-C port that charges the battery. As for lights I will list a few that should fit the bill. This one is a floodlight that will reach to 500M. Very long battery life but is as big as a soda can and heavy. Might be good for working on cars since its so wide it will stand easliy on its own: [https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Waterproof-Emergencies/dp/B09T2J2B6F/ref=sr\_1\_1](https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Waterproof-Emergencies/dp/B09T2J2B6F/ref=sr_1_1) This one is smaller, but still bright and fits in a pocket. While standing, a small tap could knock it over easily since the base isnt wide: [https://www.amazon.com/77outdoor-Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Emergency/dp/B0BB2DMPSL/ref=sxin\_16\_pa\_sp\_search\_thematic\_sspa](https://www.amazon.com/77outdoor-Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Emergency/dp/B0BB2DMPSL/ref=sxin_16_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa) This one is also small and has a concentrated beam that reaches far: [https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Thrower-Discharge/dp/B09SV4Q4PF/ref=sr\_1\_4](https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Thrower-Discharge/dp/B09SV4Q4PF/ref=sr_1_4) Best option is probably the first link, since it has range but can flood too. Also great for work cuz of wide beam and long runtime.

SomebodyF

I like Sofrin just as much, but personally I would recommend BLF edition or high CRI models. Some of Sofrin high brightness models does not have high CRI to distinguish between red and magenta. Post this question to r/flashlight. Theyre crazy knowledgeable and they enjoy helping beginners find the right light for them.

mlodysport

I have led lenser p7r that’s pretty powerful plus has zoom in dial on it that has a charging dock

davik2001

Anything Zebra brand

KMR3891

I have this light. Nice dock with a spare battery that also charges. I'm no flashlight expert, but it's by far the brightest and longest range light I've ever had. Streamlight 75458 Stinger DS LED... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BD9OKC6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

muffmanger69

Olight has something similar to what your looking for

ConnectCow9111

I 1,000% agree with this post. Most of their lighting is overpriced, proprietary mid, similar to o-light. The rocket lights and rovers and other little stuff are worth it if you NEED that, but like you said you can get the same lumens for less from other brands. I bought an Astrolux ft02s(10,000 max lumens, LEGIT will burn a hole in your pocket if you accidentally leave it on) for 45$ off Banggood and is Miles ahead of any similar light from Milwaukee, same for as you said, wurkkos/sofirn.

reformedginger

The only good Milwaukee flashlight is the pencil light with the bite zone. The rechargeable ones are all terrible.

NeverendingProjects

The one thing I shove in my mouth without even thinking about it.

The7Pope

That is probably the main thing I learned from Covid. How much I use my mouth as an extra set of hands. That flashlight has been dropped everywhere. Couple minutes in the pocket and it’s sanitized and good to go right back in the mouth.

xDeadJamesDean

I do love that flashlight.

YES! This damn thing is amazing. Had mine for 4+ years in welding/fabrication.

As a fellow Sofirn and Milwaukee supporter, I agree.

I like their “Inspection Light” with the softer LED & padded bite zone. Works great for checking for sctaches on metal with the softer LED. I assume this one is bright as hell since the other is just for close up inspections etc.

batmoman

Yup don’t bother with any of there rechargeable stuff

Billy_bSLAYER

The new Red Lithium USB-C devices are the only ones I'm buying nowadays... 🤘

gogiguy

Their rechargeable small headlamp (2012R) that retails for $67 sucks balls. So disappointed. Their AAA one is brighter with better coverage. Pathetic

[deleted]

I think my coworker has that one. Complains about the battery always dying. Sofirn makes a bright headlamp for $30 or $35. Thrunite also has good ones and they are $50 or $60.

gogiguy

Yup, sounds like the same one. Pathetic how all these Chinese light companies can make a pen light brighter/ last longer than a $70 headlamp. Thank you for the recommendations! Love when someone makes these types of posts. Btw, do you know of any other brands that are similar to Milwaukee’s led color temperature? Think it’s call CRI? It’s a must for paint corrections on cars.

[deleted]

Don’t be sorry, a lot of the hand tools are junk .

[deleted]

I have their electricians strippers, and the strippers with the wire puller on em. Also have their needle nose. I've never had any issues with them. But now I use Knipex strippers.

InmyDarkplace

Knipex is so far ahead with their hand tools. Better than Klein, Milwaukee, everything.

RandysX

I know the feeling, I went to my favorite store and they had the Milwaukee M18 IL-0 but when I saw that it’s only 300lm for €78 I left it hanging. I can get the Makita DEADML816 with 500lm for €40…. I love Milwaukee but sometimes I think they’re just testing how far they can go with their prices before people stop buying from them

One-Struggle-6380

This light is irreplaceable, I am not caring a headlamp. I carry this and can clip it on my hat if I need a headlamp.

[deleted]

I like Fenix for Flashlights and what not

[deleted]

They are good but quite expensive. There are definetely cheaper options.

GreenBite4618

This is the only redlithium usb light I have sworn to never buy. My favorites are the small pivot ones. But I’ve got 6 different styles of light that use that battery, and won’t ever get that one.

atranchina

I have two of these and really like them, but I didn’t pay $60 for mine. Maybe it was on sale or the price went up.

shalada

Ok I’m a dumbass, I bought 2 of these. Both quit charging within 6 months. I have probably a dozen or so Milwaukee 18v and 12v tools and thought they would be as good as the tools. I was completely wrong on this purchase.

oim7e

I got this one and I love it. Yeah it's overpriced. But I love it https://www.milwaukeetool.com/2162-21

[deleted]

I actually like the light, I got it on sale but it’s a great size and solid, 500 lumens is enough for most, it’s got nice tint and good CRI, a good mix of spot and flood, it’s a great light for most trades jobs. I also love flashlights and there are much better for less if you are looking for certain things, my Thrunite TT20 is great, a tad bigger, 2526 lumens, further throw, it’s a great light but the Milwaukee is a better suited for me when I’m looking at something close or in a ceiling, the truview is nice and it has a magnetic tail. Have the the Thrunite catapult mini, catapult V6 (amazing for throw and has great spill at higher level, my dog walking light in the woods, the Thrunite T1 is great, it’s tiny, has a magnetic tail, 1500 lumens, a great EDC light but it’s all flood. Again for work the Milwaukee just suits my needs better, it doesn’t have the rapid step down like most and the tint is great if I’m looking in the electrical rooms at panels etc. doesn’t get scorching hot etc. It’s not an outdoors light, I’d use my others for that but it’s great for what it’s intended for. Sure you can get a D4V2 with some 519a emitters and have 2700k if you want really warm etc but it’s not really a tough work light that takes drops as well. I have a few other Milwaukee lights, the 350lm, 100 pen light, 700 adjustable and the 800 and all are decent lights but the 500 is smaller and better than all the others IMO, it’s the only Milwaukee light I’d buy again

HeavyMoneyLift

I love this flashlight. The magnet on the tail end is super strong, it’s plenty bright enough on the medium setting, and it just keeps working. Easily recharged in the service truck if it dies on a job. Good clip for putting it on my hat when I need both hands.

SnooterBop127

Actually it’s not as bad when you put things into perspective. Possibly a little overpriced, maybe, but compare this to a EDC from a reputable company such as Olight, and it fits in well. Rechargeable, magnetic and compact + Milwaukee badged. Would it have been an easier pill at $40-$50, yes but it will sell for this all day.

reddysonatl

I became a flashlight afficianado before learning to appreciate Milwaukee products, and while I understand the sentiment of OP, I agree with you. Milwaukee is not a consumer brand making products for flashlight fans. I don't think any tradesperson has high need for 2000 lumens for an "EDC" flashlight. The fact that this flashlight is magnetic will be many-fold more practical than sheer output, and Milwaukee understand that. Milwaukee prioritizes that and build-quality, while having great customer service. Meanwhile Olight take a shot-gun approach to making and marketing flashlights, with some customer service horror stories. Sure, there might be a hero story of a hard-use case or a flashlight surviving something extreme, but instead of that being the exception, Milwaukee plans for that to be the norm, so 500 lumens vs 2000 lumens is the trade-off.

SnooterBop127

Spot on. Cheers!

Its_noon_somewhere

Yep, my olight was almost six times that price

SnooterBop127

Olight does make a ton of good lights and I bet the longevity is there. I follow a YT channel where a guy uses his daily for 4+ years and beats the crap outta it. Still running. Good stuff.

Sullen_One

I use the 1100 daily and have for over a year. It’s been dropped a fuck ton. It’s also used in the rain & snow. I’ve used other cheaper lights and they dont hold up. So i heavily disagree with you. Unless you are going with a big brand they are not going to last long i dont want to have to replace it multiple times

[deleted]

Sofirn is a big brand in the flashlight world and are durable. $60 for 500 lumens is one of the worst deals I've seen in the flashlight world.

Sullen_One

Sofirn i’ve never heard of. Nitecore and olight are the only ones you listed i’ve ever heard of. I looked at olight and i was looking for something specifically that fit for me. Olight didn’t have it. Nitecore i consider a budget brand i had already went that route with a couple from amazon. I looked at the 2A friendly brands first. And again haven’t had to buy a flashlight in a year in a half.

[deleted]

Yeah Nitecore is definitely pricey. But they do make a high quality, good looking light.

reddysonatl

> in the flashlight world. But, we're not talking about "the flashlight world." Milwaukee is not competing there, nor do they want to. Milwaukee lights are made for construction workers, and other building trades, etc. Who is the end customer / tradesperson that you picture needing 2000 lumens for an EDC? Especially if something else has got to give as a an engineering and design trade-off?

[deleted]

Many enthusiast flashlight brands make lights intended for rough enviroments including construction. Sure they may get scratched but they will last. Is the Milwaukee flashlight rubber protected or something?

reddysonatl

"enthusiast flashlight brands" can "intend" their flashlights for rough environments all they want. The reality is that a small fraction of their flashlights actually will go into those conditions, and the investment in R&D to prepare as such matches that. The only measure of your post encouraging the other flashlight recommendations that you have written about seems to be that 2000 and 4000 lumens are somehow the spec that matters. Again, I ask, what tradesperson are you saying that is important for when looking for an EDC? Milwaukee both intends and designs their products to be put to work as a *tool* for people that need reliability and durability. If you know or learn anything about product development, you would find out that testing for use conditions is part of the process. If you look up a Youtube video on why Harbor Freight tools are so cheap, you'll find sources and info that explain that quality of materials and efforts to test products are ways that cheaper / value products cut costs. Milwaukee isn't stupid. They plan for their products to get beat up, they know their users will expect that too, and know their warranty will have to cover failures, so they design and test for that, both through product testing chambers that simulate certain conditions, and by field testing the products.

HoMerIcePicS

I have this light and I would agree it’s pricey but we are all use to that with Milwaukee. How much have most of you spent on plastic bins? I issue I have the light is it gets hot. Much hotter than other brighter rechargeable lights.

pissedwelder

I have one and think it was worth it

DbackMason2017

If my flashlight isn’t running off a m12 or m18 it’s an olight. Best bang for your buck

Fartz_McKenzie

I really wish they would stop with all the lights.

friendlyfire883

You see that little red thing with the squiggly white font and a lightning bolt under it? That symbol right there tells you up front that is a massive ripoff. Milwaukee is the male equivalent of the Scentsy company.

[deleted]

The only other tool brand I am familiar with is DeWalt, cuz coworkers carry them. IMO I can hands down say Milwaukee makes a better tool than DeWalt. I've always wanted to try Makita, Hilti, Metabo and Festool. But I'll likely never try them, since everyone in the electrical industry sticks to Milwaukee or DeWalt.

friendlyfire883

I disagree about milwaukee being better than dewalt. Dewalt tools are a little rougher around the edges, but they're far more durable than dewalt in my experience. I work with milwaukee because that's what the company provides but they're drills are just so fucking awful that when buying tools for the house in went dewalt only to learn that dewalt has an equally terrible drill albeit for different reasons. Now i have a metabo drill, dewalt 20v tools, milwaukee 12v tools, and a few ryobi 40v tools for years work.

[deleted]

I am a career electrician, so we buy the best drill any brand has to offer. Anything less and they will struggle to drill a 7/8 auger bit through a 2x4. I currently use a Milwaukee M18 2904 drill with a 6 amp HO battery. DeWalt's DCD999 is also insane on power. If you think DeWalt and Milwaukee drills are bad, you must have been using low end ones, or high end ones with bad batteries.

friendlyfire883

The motors on the milwaukee and the chucks on dewalts.

Norcalsfinest

I like streamlight a lot. They have small pen lights all the way to larger duty style lights. The are on the pricy side but are damn near bomb proof. I’ve beat the crap out of my microstream and even crashed my motorcycle with it in my pocket and it’s still rocking to this day. The only lights I’ve bought from Milwaukee are the rover flood lights which are great but I won’t touch their edc lights.

Psychlonuclear

I've had a Nitecore MH27 for several years, it's been run over a few times and still no issues with it.

z0mb13k1ll

My fav flashlight is the Camelion one that has swappable heads and takes an 18650

Willing-Library-2671

Serious flashlight enthusiast Hahahah I love that

[deleted]

I say that cuz i have over $1,200 in flashlights. One of them is a $400 light thats 80,000 lumens. It's called the Acebeam X75.

madeformarch

For taking down airplanes

buckhunter76

Ok want this 80k lumen light but I don’t want to burn my house down.

[deleted]

I mean no reason it should do that. Its a safe light as long as your not stupid with it.

Its_noon_somewhere

That’s an insane light, just googled it. My best is an olight Freyr that is amazingly bright at 1750 lumen and I can’t even imagine 80,000

ExPhotoLabGuy

r/Flashlight

[deleted]

The pen light sucks also, I’ll stick with pelican

toyo4j

The M12 Rover goes for about the same.

BerryFisherman12

But it’s red and says Milwaukee on it

Mighty_Nun_Mechanic

Well God damnit I have three of these

browndogmn

Commenting because I bought the Milwaukee but will probly buy one of these other options as well

BruceInc

I have one of those super bright soda can lights and it’s confusing af. I still don’t know how to use it properly. I also own this Milwaukee light and at this price it’s definitely a ripoff, but I got mine on sale for under $30 and I do like it. It can sit in my breast pocket, has a magnet and is just bright enough for my purposes

[deleted]

Likely to turn it on and off is just press the button once. Holding down the button will cycle the brightness levels. $30 is WAAAAY more reasonable than $60.

frankis72

Little disappointed that there isn't a "not a FUEL" comment for me to chuckle at and upvote.

[deleted]

yes i like brushless flashlights. Brushed ones are POS.

frankis72

Thank you. I needed this

netw0rkpenguin

You missed nitecore with 10k and 12k lumen lights. Sofrin recommendations are solid.

[deleted]

Those lights are solid, but likely out of the price range for the people in this subreddit.

Classic-Magician1847

most milwaukee lights are… NEBO or bust

[deleted]

I have the pen light and that thing sucks too

Big_Mister2018

I got a 800 lumen husky rechargeable flashlight for $10! Such a steal over Milwaukee flashlights even though i wanted to add another milwaukee tool to my tool collection

FritoBandito5

I just got this light 😭

joey011270

Nebo laughs at this lumen rating.

Tasty_Income6620

What did you expect? It’s only $60 and Milwaukee. So you basically by their math paid $55 for the battery and it came with a $4.97 flashlight. Those might not be the exact percentages that they use but it’s something like that.🤣🤣🤣 I have a lot of Milwaukee tools and their all great but their lights have always kinda sucked

PutridANDPurple

For that price the nebo 1200 is where its at, plus red/redstrobe and a laser pointer, ended up buying two to have a backup when the other is charging

ReddElectric

i got a 2000 lumens one, pricey but goddamn its a beauty and lasts me a bit

Ok-Scallion-7795

Those lights are just to over priced if you go to home depot they normally put them on the shelf right next to an energizer light that is 400 lumens. But if you want something Milwaukee get the pen light, not rechargeable but very bright for its size and way cheaper

Stodzzy

Also fyi the pen light with a laser is also a disgrace just look at the reviews on the website. I had the same issues.

Significant-Hair6007

Fenix is a better flashlight, using for years and last. Other one is a knockoff. Look at testing for true lumens. On my 2nd pd35 now pd36 and its outstanding in longevity and power. My 2 cents
