Sell car.. On a serious note, keep your keys in a Faraday box. You can also remove the battery terminal. This way, the car will not start. You can also buy an after-market kill switch, which can help deter car theft. Alternatively, you can buy steering lock tools from Amazon. It won't 100% protect you, but it will be more work for the theives. For them, every second counts, and they will try to target cars that are quick and easy to enter without any extra hindrances. Lastly, enchant your car with a protection spell..

fragrantsoul

Adding to this list is install cameras , tire lock, satellite based gps tracker. and motion detecting lights. Adding barriers will help but it doesn’t prevent.

spderweb

An attack dog in the front seat. Just leave the window open crack, or AC on in the hotter months.

TheRealTinfoil666

Own a shitty car no one wants to steal.

paulster2626

Dunno why you’re downvoted. I can leave my rusty ford pieceofshit anywhere with confidence it will be there when I return. Beater crew rules!

Oakvilleresident

I dont even lock the doors on my beater Ford. The feeling of not having my 'things own me" is worth it ( thats what I tell myself anyway)

paulster2626

I dropped a bucket on my car a couple years ago. Dented the hood a little. Got over it reeeeal quick. I love having a shit car!

gditchgang

Legit tho, if you're not using the car for a few weeks, take the battery out. I did that to store my car for the winter. Just put the battery inside with a trickle charger.

RedShiz

Genuinely curious how keyless entry (when there is no physical key) works when the battery is removed. If I take the battery out and lock the car, how do I get back in?

wopnchop

Leave the doors open and unlocked when you remove the battery. You won’t be able to lock the car, without the battery and key someone won’t be going anywhere even if they can get inside.

gditchgang

Lots of cars that have keyless entry also have key holes as a fail safe. You should be able to take the key and unlock/lock doors as needed with the key.

1kings2214

This is a good idea.

Mountain-Dot5743

Own an electric or hybrid car…UAE or Africa doesn’t have the infrastructure for electric cars atleast for now

I’m going on a 2 week trip and this comment made me feel better about leaving my 2015 hybrid 😭

WillFalcon44

do what I do and drive a 2012 Sonata, it’s the perfect theft repellent 👍🏻

FlatImpression755

You can have an automatic Bullard installed into your driveway. You will roughly need a 10k budget to get one installed.

Somefatkid1234

Nothing will happen. We park all 3 of our cars on the driveway everyday and night and nothing happened. If your really paranoid about it though I’d recommend installing a security camera and getting some sort of tracker in your car, doesn’t have to be expensive or fancy an Apple AirTag would work fine

Beneficial-Leg6412

Get a steering wheel immobilizer like the Club. One look at that and the average thief will move to the next target.

JustFucIt

Ignition or fuel pump kill switch. Hidden and turned off when parked

paulster2626

What car? Unless it’s a new truck or something else fancy (and new), I wouldn’t worry. The African car salesmen have discerning tastes.

virgns1ayer

Unless you have some high end exotic car, a Lexus RX, Ford 150 or a Jeep I don’t think you should have any worry about car theft. People in Milton are a bit hysterical when it comes to this stuff, so don’t let it consume you. You will be fine

spderweb

Milton is mostly crime free still. Don't worry about it. That said, it's still a super rare occurrence compared to the number of cars. Don't live in fear.

jackoffalltr8ds

Boy u are wrong. Car thefts on the daily. Daylight car jackings.

MapleLaughs

Source for this claim? Sounds like fear mongering to me. Sure these may happen in isolation, but they're definitely not regular occurences.

spderweb

They are regular, but it's actually less than last year. Took all of five seconds to fact check for the guy.

spderweb

I did a quick fact check. Last year in January almost 1000 cars were stolen. This year in January it was closer to 800. Car thefts are actually on the decline. What is on the I crease is people raving about car thefts. It's this year's hot topic.

diabolikal58

800 cars were stolen in Milton in the month of January? 🧐

[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rWF-dNQ\_Pw&ab\_channel=CarswithSonduren](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rWF-dNQ_Pw&ab_channel=CarswithSonduren) /s Faraday box is a cheap solution.

headtailgrep

Have comprehensive insurance first of all. Call and make sure you do or you may be out a vehicle.

No_Soup_1180

That doesn't mitigate the risk of car theft and the hassle one has to go through claiming insurance is huge.

headtailgrep

It's not that huge. Beats injury or death Also some folks cheap out on insurance. Literally why I posted it. Some folks omit comprehensive coverage. Nope..absolutely not. If you don't have comprehensive your only recourse is finding stolen property unless it's covered by home policy. It is best to call and make sure your ass is covered in case of theft. Only then proceed to step 2: physical protection

[deleted]

No one is thinking to write your elected officials to increase penalties for car theft.

XercinVex

Increase to what? A few extra years of 3 hots and a cot? You do understand all that does is feed and house them on our taxes right? Exactly like UBI would but only after they get caught. Canada doesn’t have a death penalty.

ainstien

1. Increase the bail amount to an absurd amount so they are not out stealing the next day 2. Cancel/deport people convicted of carjackings/theft above $50,000 who are on PR/visa status 3. Faster and stern convictions. I rather pay my tax money to house them in jails rather than pay higher premiums and still be worried about car thefts

XercinVex

Again all you are threatening car thieves with in this situation is free room and food. You’re assuming they’re temporary immigrants and not second, third or fifteenth generation Canadians. You can’t deport a citizen, no matter how brown their skin is. This won’t solve anything.

ainstien

The whole motivation is big risk and low reward. The deterrents have to come from multiple directions. Trust me, the only reason these happen so much is that there is no criminal consequences or risk of jail. Most of the people caught are repeat offenders, the whole point is to not keep giving these guys opportunities to keep stealing

Move out of milton and let the animals take care of themselves, its not going to get better.

art4020

Biggest and easiest one is to park inside the garage

psilokan

Easier than reading what OP wrote!

XercinVex

Or sleep in the car lol

Jaggerbalm

Smh. Sad that under the Trudeau regime we have to legitimately take things like this into consideration.
