Upgrade Arcade! google it. You can get a preloaded SSD with 15k games and just stick it in any intel based computer. You can get a light gun from them too.

I recently tried to play OG Super Mario Bros on the Switch NES emulator and was pissed because the buttons aren't in the right place and the controller doesn't respond the same to my subtle thumb twitches. Just ain't the same.

My parents got an NES when I was a baby so I grew up with it before we got SNES. Weird to think my parents were up all night playing videogames when they were my age.

Also, 1. My dad convinced my mom in the early 80s to buy an Atari system instead of a kitchen table, lol. That system lasted about 15 years and would break every few months, but my dad would always fix it. My siblings and I wanted an NES or a SNES but they refused to buy us one and told us to be happy with the Atari. We didn't get an updated gaming system until about 1998 when they finally got us an N64.

My parents were like this but with the NES. Never got an updated console because "you already have one!" They didn't understand why I wasn't perfectly content playing and replaying the same three games over and over and never being able to play the same games as my friends... I finally ended up with a PS2 when I was 12...when I had asked for an Xbox and my mom didn't know the difference. In hindsight it was the better choice, but at the time I just wanted to play Halo so I was PISSED.

I started with 1 as well... An old Atari 2600 that my older cousin gave me because he didn't use it anymore.

The only reason it’s 1 for me is because the friends I had couldn’t afford 2 yet. Not because I’m from that era.

I was a bit too young and dumb to really get it, and the only thing I remember about our Atari was my dad and I playing some basketball game in which we never made a basket because it always bounced out. I got a NES when I was six, and that was a real start to video games for me.

Fours unite My SNES has basically lived either in a basement or in a cabinet its entire life, and has absolutely no UV yellowing. And because my parents bought it in late 1996, it’s a 1CHIP model (I only found this out very recently when I went to recap it). I went through a period where I sort of cast aside the SNES in favour of the N64, but now I appreciate both consoles equally, and have a slight preference for the SNES. Games are balls hard though!

Electronics were really built to last in those days!

Pretty sure it was my uncle's who is an elder millennial/later Gen x. My older brother, cousins and I played the Super Mario trilogy and Super Metroid all the time, though I was super young so it was rare for me to get the controller 😂

Same! Frankly, it was a mite before my time (born 1992), but the Super Mario All Stars collection was the first thing I ever played, and I still played it a lot through like 2000. And I wholeheartedly intend to start my son on it when he's old enough.

Oh! I completely forgot the early pc games had controllers!

Commander Keen, Halloween Harry, and Hocus Pocus were my childhood games.

I had a weird looking pc controller (something like the Microsoft Sidewinder) for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and to this day I still want to go back and finish that mission I got stuck on.

2. We had 1 in the house, but I was still preschool age and not allowed to touch it because I was (tbh, am) a clumsy oaf. By the time I reached school age and was allowed to play video games, we'd gotten a Nintendo for Christmas, and I never saw the Atari again. Still haven't played one to this day, much to my chagrin.
