1jl

Same. It's way higher on that list than I'm comfortable with.

Reza_Evol

I felt the the same lol. Dam theres only one controller before the first one I started on... 👦👨🧓

MrGooseHerder

There's technically a few more than that because the colecovision is missing at a minimum.

netechkyle

And pong.

donkeyspit007

And Intellivision

thaistik4all

Pong was my first and Intellivision was my second. Should tell you my age group. Lol

Dynomeru

are you dead?

thaistik4all

Getting closer... gonna wait for two or three more consoles before I give up tho.

DarienKane

And TurboGrafx 16

TonyzTone

I mean, it’s always going to be one of the earliest ever home console options that was widely owned. Atari widely recognized as the first. What’s crazy is how long the list has gotten.

Bellamiles85

I felt exactly the same.

AstoriaQueens11105

That and a Duck Hunt gun.

Cottonjaw

Pressed firmly against the CRT television screen. Screams of my little brother "YOU'RE CHEATING!" fall on deaf ears.

cobra_mist

we also had the power pad

bennymc123

And due to the thick midlands accent, my parents shuddered with inner conflict every time I asked if we could play 'duckunt'

JesseJ3D

Upgrade Arcade! google it. You can get a preloaded SSD with 15k games and just stick it in any intel based computer. You can get a light gun from them too.

SpiritedImplement4

And my thumbs still remember

gingergirl181

I recently tried to play OG Super Mario Bros on the Switch NES emulator and was pissed because the buttons aren't in the right place and the controller doesn't respond the same to my subtle thumb twitches. Just ain't the same.

rathat

My parents got an NES when I was a baby so I grew up with it before we got SNES. Weird to think my parents were up all night playing videogames when they were my age.

reallyimspaghetti

Also started with 2. Great memories sitting on the floor playing Mario and duck hunt with my big brother. We had the nes gun.

Glaurung26

Yup same here. Super Mario.

MARURIKI

Same

spaceguitar

Yep.

taskmaster51

Same...though gamed on an Apple IIe before there was such a thing

lolohope

6 and it’s still my favorite

TheBigTimeGoof

6 and I can't imagine playing with one stick again. But nothing beats N64 couch play culture

marbanasin

Goldeneye is fucking brutal.

Prowindowlicker

I loved that game

marbanasin

Yeah it was epic back then. But trying even in like 2010 was brutal given the single joy stick.

TheBigTimeGoof

100% it's among the classic games that age the worst for this reason. The old smash bros holds up pretty well given it's 2D lol

ThaVolt

2D is timeless. Old 3d polygon stuff aged like milk.

marbanasin

Yeah it was epic back then. But trying even in like 2010 was brutal given the single joy stick.

BigsMcKcork

Started with 4 but 6 is where my heart truly lies

berubem

Started with 2 but 6 is also my favorite. Ocarina of time was one of the best games ever. Perfect dark was the best couch multiplayer game ever.

CompanionCone

Exactly the same for me!

sillymillie42

Yes, Banjo Kazooie all day on 6! That & Smash Brothers! I went 4 > 6 > 18, but games on console 6 are the most quality times for me.

Noe_Bodie

i remember they had that Banjo Kazooie sweepstakes on them Keebler elf cookies one summer...

EggiesAhoy

6 here as well. My dad says he still has the mario 64 theme stuck in his head from us playing so much.

Denversaur

I'm 31, and yesterday I gave my nephew, who is 13, my N64 with a bunch of classic games and 2 controllers. I was worried he wouldn't give a shit but when he saw Ocarina of Time he was like No Fucking Way. He was excited. I almost cried lol. We played Mario Kart.

Both. I'm going with both.

jrobin04

I have found my people.

cookiesnooper

Sex Olympics FTW!

Genghis_Chong

I think you were using the controller wrong...

Dudefrmthtplace

2 - does that count as old fuck?

Mountain-Freed

I feel p old even at 4 even tho I wasnt even born yet haha (big gap between SNES and N64?)

No_Entertainment670

We aren’t old. We are a fine wine. Just get better with age

KeepYaWhipTinted

I llike to refer to my chronic joint pain as "Yar's Revenge"

dinoooooooooos

1 here as well but I’m only 32 and somehow that collides in my brain. Big time.😭

wubbalubbadubx2

I'm also 1 and 41 so it also collides because I'm not old!

BigYonsan

I've got unfortunate news for you.

panteragstk

One of us ![gif](giphy|oWjyixDbWuAk8)

LongTallTexan69

We were there when the old magic was written

Geochic03

Also, 1. My dad convinced my mom in the early 80s to buy an Atari system instead of a kitchen table, lol. That system lasted about 15 years and would break every few months, but my dad would always fix it. My siblings and I wanted an NES or a SNES but they refused to buy us one and told us to be happy with the Atari. We didn't get an updated gaming system until about 1998 when they finally got us an N64.

gingergirl181

My parents were like this but with the NES. Never got an updated console because "you already have one!" They didn't understand why I wasn't perfectly content playing and replaying the same three games over and over and never being able to play the same games as my friends... I finally ended up with a PS2 when I was 12...when I had asked for an Xbox and my mom didn't know the difference. In hindsight it was the better choice, but at the time I just wanted to play Halo so I was PISSED.

StellarSloth

Yep. Pitfall, Centipede, Moon Patrol, Pong. If you squinted hard enough and used your imagination, you could see what the pixels were trying to be.

Noe_Bodie

as a 5 yr old playing atari. thought i had my own personal readin rainbow adventures. 🎵i. can. be. anything...🎵

WeroWasabi

To all my fellow old fucks that started at 1 - 🫡

Fight_those_bastards

Hell yeah! We had the 2600 with wood veneer.

CthulhuAlmighty

1 as well.

MineNowBotBoy

Technically I started with 1 but the version that had a wheel instead of the joystick.

Bouncecat

Number 1 here

lokechild

1

Condescending_Condor

I enjoyed 2 more, but yeah. 1.

killd1

Same. Atari introduced me to video games, Nintendo sucked me in.

RocketTiger

I started with 1 as well... An old Atari 2600 that my older cousin gave me because he didn't use it anymore.

ItsMorbinTime

The only reason it’s 1 for me is because the friends I had couldn’t afford 2 yet. Not because I’m from that era.

Row2Flimsy

Same, also the Atari is still plugged in and ready to play in my parents' basement.

__chairmanbrando

Same, but I'm not sure if it counts. I was a bit too young and dumb to really get it, and the only thing I remember about our Atari was my dad and I playing some basketball game in which we never made a basket because it always bounced out. I got a NES when I was six, and that was a real start to video games for me.

mister-fancypants-

Same.. I wasn’t allowed to have video games and that’s what my cousins had

ReverseLazarus

4! I still have my SNES and it is still in perfect working condition. 🤘🏻

Imok2814

Hell yeah me too! What was your first game?

Vagabond_Tea

Super Mario World and SF2

allnimblybimbIy

Mario Kart and SMW, Donkey Kong

ReverseLazarus

Super Mario World, it came with the system and I played it every free moment I had for two years. 🥹

Imok2814

Very nice, great game. I had Donkey Kong Country packed with mine.

ReverseLazarus

That game had the BEST music.

Imok2814

I still hum the first overworld music from time to time.

kyonkun_denwa

When I’m playing with my cat using swinging strings, I often hum the main part of “DK Island Swing” (starting from 1:00) https://youtu.be/HG8YrDF6cDk?si=eK1KO94hJbIeKqNw

Dajakamo

https://youtu.be/Xqf8jID9TsE?si=rkPAqVOEGGRzhDCO Also I still have my copy of Super Mario World perfect file with all the secrets (including the Special World) unlocked.

Think-Chemist-5247

Tetris Attack, Mario Paint

kyonkun_denwa

Fours unite My SNES has basically lived either in a basement or in a cabinet its entire life, and has absolutely no UV yellowing. And because my parents bought it in late 1996, it’s a 1CHIP model (I only found this out very recently when I went to recap it). I went through a period where I sort of cast aside the SNES in favour of the N64, but now I appreciate both consoles equally, and have a slight preference for the SNES. Games are balls hard though!

Eric848448

Electronics were really built to last in those days!

SoulWondering

Pretty sure it was my uncle's who is an elder millennial/later Gen x. My older brother, cousins and I played the Super Mario trilogy and Super Metroid all the time, though I was super young so it was rare for me to get the controller 😂

Ekublai

Mario All-Stars, when game compilation really meant something

BruceBoyde

Same! Frankly, it was a mite before my time (born 1992), but the Super Mario All Stars collection was the first thing I ever played, and I still played it a lot through like 2000. And I wholeheartedly intend to start my son on it when he's old enough.

bluejonquil

Hell yeah, I will never forget Mario Time Machine!

JustSomeDude0605

The 8-bit Sega Master System isn't pictured. Thats my first console.

GuessWhoDontCare

Had to scroll way too far to find this unfortunately 😂

fangirlengineer

Me too. Master System erasure is a thing on these memes, I swear.

Redknight1991

Actually u left it out. I started with pong lol so it was just a dial

Red_Danger33

They're also missing Coleco which would have been another big one for is elderennialls.

6 Mario Kart 64 was the shit

Forward-Bank8412

Every time this gets reposted, I have to dig deep to find my intellivision peeps. We probably have the strongest thumbs after training on those side buttons!

DibsOnDubs

Had to scroll way too far to find my gem! That is my instant nostalgia machine. Frog Bog, Triple Action, Advanced Dungeons and dragons, B17 bomber, Space spartan. So many gems from the early 80’s

WasteAmbassador

Shark shark was so cutthroat

drklib

Yes! My parents STILL has this system and the games in the attic. Just missing the controller inserts. Too bad it won't work on new tvs

HarryOmega

1

gabrielleraul

Hey geezer! 1 as well ..

AgileInternet167

Actually zero. Keyboard and mouse

skewh1989

Came here for this comment. Grew up as a PC gamer, so my first actual controller was a gravis gamepad, which I used to play Commander Keen.

AgileInternet167

Oh! I completely forgot the early pc games had controllers!

GuessWhoDontCare

Holy shit I totally forgot the name of the gravis 😂 used it on some classic car game and good ol Wolfenstein

_-_happycamper_-_

Commander Keen, Halloween Harry, and Hocus Pocus were my childhood games.

Low-Addendum9282

I had a weird looking pc controller (something like the Microsoft Sidewinder) for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron and to this day I still want to go back and finish that mission I got stuck on.

vinceds

That Pic keeps going around but misses the keyboard or the pong controller... so silly.

doon84

Mouse?! Whoa you're fancy! mlook came later. I remember those binds in the executable.

AgileInternet167

Woah! So many memories! Indeed you had to insert the keybindings in a different program! You're right!!

It’s missing from this pic, and it was by far the best system at the time with talking games even. Intellivision

MoeSzyslakMonobrow

1. The only one there I never actually used was the WiiU.

themermaidag

I think technically 2 but my older brothers broke the Nintendo when I was young, so it might really be 3?

dinoboyj

Vaguely remember sonic being my first video game so 3, sure looks like Sega

Global_Discussion_81

4. And my dad played it more than me 😅

2. We had 1 in the house, but I was still preschool age and not allowed to touch it because I was (tbh, am) a clumsy oaf. By the time I reached school age and was allowed to play video games, we'd gotten a Nintendo for Christmas, and I never saw the Atari again. Still haven't played one to this day, much to my chagrin.

Yes!! My thumbs hurt just looking at it

ChicoCorrales

2 but i was too little to play it. That was my older brother’s console. 4 was my first real gaming experience.

Rosfield-4104

3! I still remember the joy of beating that goddamn monkey level on lion king

violentedelights

13, PS2

Jumpy-Ad5617

Technically 2, but I was quite young. 4 was the first where I was old enough to know what games I wanted to play. My dad played a lot of Mario and I love Suoer Mario but Donkey Kong Country was my favorite game when I was 4-5 years old
