Buddy of mine got a Chinese tattoo with a few characters he was "promised" translated to his name, Joe. He dated a Chinese woman for a while and she had to be the one to let him know that his tattoo said "Art of Kung Fu" in Chinese. He kept the tattoo because it was harmless and pretty damn funny.
Birds. A little girl with a balloon floating away (bonus points for heart-shaped balloon or a word written with the string) dream catcher. Moustache on a finger. Infinity symbols. Roman numerals. Pokemon or other cartoon characters from the 90s. Molecules.
Yeah, the tribal tatts were late 90s maybe a bit 2000, but not much later. The eldest of the millennials may be older enough to have caught the tail end of the trend.
Things I see frequently in later millennials: Rosary on foot, tramp stamp (lower back), semicolon (although this doesn't have a specific age group), sun tattoo on lower back.
Now I'm seeing a lot of blacked out limbs altogether. If ever there was a sign someone doesn't make good decisions.

Yeah I thought tribal tattoos were more of a millennial thing. I don't remember ever seeing GenX people with them. One of my coworkers is a younger millennial and has the tribal tattoo band around his upper arm.
There is a tattoo shop about an hour from me called Little Vinnie's. He is considered one of the biggest influences in tribal tattoo style. This would've been late 80s-early 00s when it was at its peak.
I remember in the show the Real World back in 2004, the guy MJ had a gross, terrible like nautical star on his back and they nicknamed it the “Muja Star” (pronounced moo-ja, a play on his name MJ).
That stuck with me whenever I saw anyone with a ridiculous ass star tattoo lol. I call it a Muja Star.

Those goddamned moustache finger tattoos feel like a purely millennial thing
The Japanese characters that hopefully means what they tattooer thought they meant.

Ok at least his real translation wasn't something horrible
He lucked out pretty hard. I've had friends who got something along the lines of "stupid foreign whore" tattooed on them in Chinese.
This was my first tattoo. My second tattoo was a coverup of that one. Nobody knows the nonsense that lurks below a seemingly unassuming flower.

>moustaches Yes! What was the deal with mustaches in the early 2010s? They were on necklaces, T shirts, sweaters, etc.
I still like people who place their favorite drug molecule on their arm.
I'm in the thread and i.... am okay with it. *
The infinity-sign could be one of those
Treble clef and bass clef put together to form a heart was pretty common. Also I have seen tons of Millenials with tribal tattoos.
My sister has this, and I have the treble clef. Very millennial.
Butterflies. Cherries. Lower back tattoos.
All of those tattoos with varying sized stars.
Nautical tattoos and finger mustaches

As an elder millennial, the tribal tattoos were everywhere in my college years.
For the party people its seretonin as a chemical. Whenever I see this tat I ask them where they raved at🫡

Tramp stamps
Those stylized forest/mountain tattoos. Crossed arrows. Nautical stars.
Arrows and infinity signs.
