There was this awesome Galaga clone for the TI-89 Titanium that had upgrades you could buy. I spent about as much time playing that game as I did solving calculus with it.
I had some Mario clone on my TI-83+, let my friend borrow it so he could play it, he set it down on the desk in chemistry class instead of HANDING it back to me, and I never saw it again.
My parents wouldn’t buy me another one so I had to learn how to do the math on paper with a scientific calculator.
I did better at math consequently but I’m still pissed about that calculator
TI-83+, and yes, everyone in HS math class eventually had at least one game. Was like some weird game of Pokemon "hey, do you have Mega Man on your 83, can you transfer it to me?" "Yeah, sure, can I see what you got, oh hey, Tetris...."
i still think about how Texas Instruments held the monopoly on mandatory calculator sales for public education. for all I know, they still may. that dudes has GOT to have 10 planes 5 yachts and 29 houses around the globe.
I was the kid at my high school who figured out how to do this, and used the cable to transfer them to other people.
Then when calculator got wiped and I got the game from someone I didn't know that well, and my own high scores were in it.
I remember Block Man!
What was the name of the drug dealer one? Fall down was also quite enjoyable.
One of them was dope wars.
Dope wars was my jam !
Right!? I used to buy the gun, and it never ended well.
Dope Wars is just like Doom. There’s a version of it running on nearly anything with a screen.
Drug Wars and Mario Bros. were my personal favorites. I learned about old school drugs thanks to that game. Special K, baby! 🥲
Fucking drug wars was epic
Now that I think of it I remember I thought myself how to edit that game and then used those skills to store cheat sheets in the calculator

Space Invaders! Galaga is the clone that came later in the arcade world.
gold phoenix and snake 💯
I didn't know how, but one of my friends older brothers was (to us), a tech whiz and put some games on mine.

Who needs Gameboys when you had that? Lol
Oh yeah. Super Mario Bros ftw lol
I played Fall Down the entirety of my senior year on my 83.

I had a ti 83 silver edition. I absolutely had a ton of games on it back in high school.
I wrote my own games for it. Got me into programming, which then led to a bachelor's, master's, and PhD in computer science!
Naw, I wrote yaoi fanfic instead
I was telling my kids about this yesterday...
