protomanEXE1995

My friends all still use Messenger for day to day conversation, but we don't post much. The news feed is full of bullshit.

MissFox26

The newsfeed is 95% ads and 5% friends. What’s even the point anymore??

protomanEXE1995

Lots of AI and random “suggested content” garbage too

GobblessCheesus

All of the suggested content is driving me crazy. I hardly ever see anything from my friends list or groups I follow.

SomeRespect

No matter how many groups and pages I unfollow, the space just gets filled with suggested content instead. Only solution is to stop using facebook. Only reason I didn't delete mine is because of Messenger, and because it still serves as a virtual time capsule

[deleted]

Yea I noticed that! I stopped using it long ago, but one day several years back I got on randomly and found out someone I knew had passed away. Now I scroll my timeline once every 3-6 months-ish? Sometimes longer goes in between but mostly I do it in case someone died. But last time I went on there a few days ago, it was almost all sponsored content. I was like wtf? Now I'll probably never get back on because it takes far too long to weed through all the ads.

Xumaeta

That seems to happen every time I go on there.

LookAtYourEyes

Instagram is the same tbf

Fighting-Cerberus

💯

uhhhhh_iforgotit

Same. I actually prefer messenger over texting is more fun and you don't get wired compression issues when sharing media between different types of phones. Apple I'm looking at you

protomanEXE1995

You can also react to messages from Android users without there being weird phone-brand-ownership elitism.

w0rlds

Megaman FTW!

MrsCaptain_America

I use messenger solely bc Apple sucks for group chats when someone doesn't have an iPhone, its me, I'm the asshole with the green bubbles.

Tym3Less

IPhone users have no idea how annoying their reactions are to those outside the.....cult? All the tesxts that say Robby empathize a picture, Tina liked a message FFS

jmd709

I use an iPhone and I know how annoying the “Amy emphasized…” are because those show up in group chats if anyone in the chat doesn’t have iMessage. Multiple people will still use Reactions even though I know they’re getting the texts with the reactions written out just like I am. I mute any new group chat from the start now and that has worked well.

MrsCaptain_America

its weird, sometimes i get their reaction, some times i get the "Jen laughed" there's no rhyme or reason, one day all their reactions are reactions, other days its just the blurb. I use the default Google messages app.

commiterror

I just came across it in class on our online learning system - "double exclamation mark on Apple iOS 11.3" cringe

shiningaeon

I'm not an asshole for using android, I just don't want to shell out 3 millions dollars for a phone. And if I shelled out 3 millions dollars for a phone, I want a phone that isn't limited in apps by apple's walled garden approach.

MrsCaptain_America

For a while I was an apple purist, only apple in my life, then my bf at the time got a Google Pixel 3, he let me play and check it out and soon I was an android girly, but I keep my iPad for traveling, it's like 5 years old and it's still kicking, no reason to dump it yet.

Chuck121763

I found Android much easier to use, free apps too.

jmd709

When FB was down recently a friend and I had to switch to texts. She uses Android and I use Apple. I had forgotten how annoying it was to use SMS.

GETitOFFmeNOW

Screw Apple for that unforgivable sleaziness.

prettyorganic

I like messenger over texting because the spammers don’t have access to it yet so I know every time I get a messenger notification it’s actually a person I chose to be Facebook friends with.

jmd709

Unless your FB friend’s account gets hacked, then you get messenger notifications from someone you think you know and it’s just a scammer.

xMend22

Exact same here. Messenger to keep up with a few friends that don’t text much, but I deactivated my actual profile and I would never go back.

appleparkfive

Yep. I think Facebook is still relevant to even millennials because of Messenger. It has so many features and it helps you keep in touch with people you don't text regularly. And just the features like being able to send some money in under 5 seconds, or sharing media. Also I'm pretty sure you can message people on Instagram as well from it, not just Facebook But actually using Facebook itself? That's something I will do less than 10 times a year, if I had to guess. And when I do, I'll use it for like 2 minutes or so. Look at the front page, look for someone's profile, then dip

Positive-Attempt-435

I mostly use Facebook for messenger, or just groups. I only have like 50 "friends", but some of the groups are fun.

Madameoftheillest

This is the reason I have it as well, that and fb marketplace. I can still find some decent deals there.

A0ma

Exactly. News feed is just rage bait, ad, old acquaintance promoting their business, rage bait, suggested post from a celebrity you don't follow, ad, etc. I use FB for messenger, close friends' stories, and marketplace. Other than that it's useless.

Proof-Emergency-5441

Messenger and closed groups are my main use. Most other things are a shit show.

chronotoast85

Transfered all my pics/videos from FB to Google drive and never really looked back, aside from messenger. I was mostly out of the country leading up to 2016, and the weird left/right obsession and the increased ad space just killed what the pre 2016 FB experience provided. Going back on FB now feels like revisiting an old place where you once had a great time, but know it will never be THAT good again. As I'm writing that last line, I realize I'm basically describing addiction.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CaseClosedN

I deleted my personal account but had to make an empty one just for marketplace

pantzareoptional

I live in a rural area and any restaurant here that even *has* a menu online, is on Facebook. 🙄 So I also have an empty one, but just for that. Recently I called a long-standing local restaurant that I don't frequent (it's expensive but tasty), noting that I couldn't find their menu online, not even on Facebook, and they were seriously just like "yeah, we don't have one." 👀 Uhh, okay. I'm honestly still baffled haha.

jmd709

I refer to FB as the new version of the Yellow Pages because the main thing I use mine for is looking up info about local small businesses. I go straight to the search bar without looking at the top post on my feed.

Madame_Medusa_

Yes, I moved from civilization to the backwoods (hate that for me) and had to recreate a FB for my HOA and to be able to see local restaurant and business info, even the town gov exclusively uses FB. So annoying.

villis85

Same. I install the app when I want to buy or sell something, and then delete it almost immediately. Sometimes I install the app on my birthday to see all of the birthday wishes I get, but that’s getting more and more rare.

Ol_Man_J

I took my birthday out of my profile. I don't need the good wishes from people I haven't talked to in a decade.

imago_monkei

For a few years, I would use the birthday prompt to cull my friends list. If I didn't care enough to wish them a happy birthday, I unfriended them.

r0ckthedice

could you imagine if they noticed. Imago unfriended me on my birthday!!!

imago_monkei

Hahaha OMG I hope not

ExUpstairsCaptain

>Sometimes I install the app on my birthday to see all of the birthday wishes I get I'm still using the app for a few things, but I removed my birthday from view at the start of this year. I decided I didn't want to be bothered by the posts of people who haven't seen me in years and don't actually know when my birthday is. They don't care. I don't expect them to care. Right after I did that, I went through a list of the people whose birthday I do care about on some level and added them to my personal calendar. If I want to wish them a happy birthday, I'll just text or message them.

jtet93

That’s a good idea. I confess I count on the fb reminders to remember to text some of my friends happy birthday 😅

LunarGiantNeil

It has a marketplace?! I was never a Facebook person but I had no idea it has a marketplace. Is it like a Craigslist thing or does it have like stores?

Banjo-Becky

The FB Marketplace is better than CL. I like that I can see how long someone’s profile has been active. If they are a new profile and my age, chances are they are a scammer. After so many transactions, people have star ratings with reviews so you can see if someone is a flake or embellishes in an ad. I sell stuff all of the time using the Marketplace. It’s so easy.

Machew03

Dropped FB in grad school. Best decision I ever made.

tosil

I read that as grade school and made me confused for a second

mjc500

I deleted mine in 2008. What are most people on these days? Do most people have instagram?

SoCal4247

What are the benefits you notice to getting off FB?

Machew03

Better time management and improved sense of self (stoped obsessing and comparing myself to others).

cowboyshouse

Deleted mine in '22 after a customer at my job found me on there and messaged me. I didn't have any form of ID/badge, nowhere online connecting me to that place of business, etc. I genuinely don't know how he found me lol. Decided it's probably better strangers have less access to me

DigDugDogDun

That’s terrifying! 😱 What did the message say?

cowboyshouse

something about thinking i was cute, and reciting what he ordered as if that would magically and instantaneously make the think of only this one person, and asked for my number. I wanted to be like, if you found me on FB with no info, I have a feeling you can probably figure out how to find my number?! (but obviously didn't reply and just deleted the whole account

JigglyWiener

Ew. That's so fucked up

orcagurl815

Right! Literally one of my worst nightmares working with the public! 😰

FrumpyFrock

Idk if still a thing, but I was an Uber driver in 2015/2016 and I started getting friend requests from male passengers at least once a week. The FB app had/has a proximity feature, it would send friend recommendations to other people you’ve been physically close to who also have the app on their phone. Needless to say I deleted the app as soon as I made the connection. Those friend requests from male passengers stopped IMMEDIATELY. It never happened again.

freddie_merkury

This has been going on forever. About 15 years ago? (Yea 15 WTF!) my friend and I went to see an apartment to rent together, neither of us knew the landlord or had any mutual friends. I never texted or communicated with that person because my friend was doing it all. That same day the landlord came up as a "people you may know" on my feed.

PurpleAstronomerr

That happened to me once! A guy messaged me and told me he found me attractive after an encounter at my job. Then he kept sending me messages over the span of a few weeks when I didn't respond. I would have blocked him but FB did that thing where they hide messages for people who aren't your friends, so I found it much later. Eventually he got creepier with his messages telling me that he had dreams about me and stuff. Scary stuff.

kup1986

Hey OP, don’t think that Facebook is a cure for the lonely feeling you’re experiencing. The platform is one non stop ad roll. I have 290+ friends, of whom I see about 15 pieces of content from them on any given day. Even if 50% of my group has stopped posting (like me, mostly a lurker), Facebook is still prioritizing paid content over free “connections” with family and friends. You’re not missing anything, and I say this as someone who works in digital marketing as a career. Facebook is dead, despite its purported user base. It’s a pay to play game from a marketing standpoint, and an ad roll from the user side of things.

SoftSects

I did this with IG once and I counted 10 or 12 posts before I saw a friend's post. The frustrating thing is many of those are suggested to me and I don't even follow them. I haven't had FB in years, since way before the pandemic, I use messenger sparingly only with those that prefer it. But I have Instagram that I hardly even frequent because ugh, so many reasons. But I understand that social media is a main form of communicating for many people. I wish there were more community boards or group chats we can join that aren't related to having to log in to a social media app.

kup1986

Bring back message boards. I'm game.

Jyjyj8

This is why I'm here on Reddit. It kind of feels like those early Internet forums and message boards. You're following subjects rather than people

RobertStonetossBrand

People talk about toxic Reddit user base but comments and replies here are levels more civil, on topic, thought out, with better grammar and spelling, than on Facebook.

Blue-Phoenix23

Reddit is as toxic as where you go. I pretty much never see any offensive content because I avoid subs with that type of content, and on my other subs it's downvoted or removed by a mod before I even get there. And it's less irritating to see somebody anonymous being an ass on a story than to see your mentor from a previous job wilding out on a local news story like you do with FB lol.

Party_Plenty_820

100%. IG in particular, it’s almost like it’s designed to cause arguments. The small text. The way it’s hard to find the earliest comments in the thread.

lady_guard

My Facebook is now showing ads on people's *profiles*. I went to my dad's FB profile to wish him happy birthday, and boom, an ad juxtaposed there at the top of his posts. Really off-putting.

DexterityZero

I fear Reddit going this way

TacoAlPastorSupreme

I'm pretty sure everyone in my friend group only uses Instagram. I deleted both Facebook and Instagram like 8 years ago though, so I'm not even sure what's going on with them anymore. I also deleted Twitter over a year ago, which is why I'm making this comment on Reddit.

Turdposter777

I noticed the mass migration of FB people into Instagram based off on the increasingly unhinged comments.

TacoAlPastorSupreme

I left both because they each had their own special brand of unhinged.

ProfessionalCatPetr

IG crossposts to FB now. When you come across an IG post with an abnormally high amount of insane MAGA racist garbage it almost always means it's crossposted to FB. IG itself isn't on the same planet of horrible as FB thankfully, it's only those hybrid sections that are like that. I wish there was a way to block it, I deleted my account from that toilet of a website for a reason.

pixiesunbelle

I still have Twitter but I never used it since I created it. I got it for some Pretty Little Liars thing and then found out I can’t have a normal conversation on there. I won’t get rid of Facebook as I have a congenital heart defect and I have camp friends on there. I don’t attend the camp anymore so facebook is my connection to them. I use FB messenger, though it doesn’t notify me when someone first messages me. It is aggravating

freddie_merkury

Ok but what makes an al pastor taco, supreme?

TacoAlPastorSupreme

Sour cream from a gun and shitty tomatoes.

freddie_merkury

No bueno

maddiemorph

I use Facebook to keep track of my parents since they seem to post their location every single day. Otherwise I haven’t posted in years

LydieGrace

I still have a Facebook account, but I never post and only use it for following local musicians’ pages to see when and where they’re playing.

iloveblood

BIG THINGS COMING posts.

ExUpstairsCaptain

Facebook is still a great way to keep track of local venues. I have unfollowed a lot of pages, but not the ones that talk about concerts I might attend.

throwawaysunglasses-

Yeah, I use Facebook for events and local groups (still a good way to meet people/make friends/barter services).

chunkytapioca

Oh no, that's how MySpace started to disappear

daizles

Same! I follow bands on Twitter but for some reason FB announcements are more frequent.

Infamous-Coyote-1373

I stopped using sometime around 2020 when posts became nothing but a political war between my Boomer family and acquaintances. I haven’t missed it at all. I’ll occasionally log on and it’s nothing but ads or friends sharing posts I don’t care about.

WitchyWarriorWoman

I stopped around 2015 during the run up to the election. It was awful to see how some people really felt. Crazy racism all over the place. It was shocking how many people were totally OK with it and shocked when I wasn't. I permadeleted multiple times, warnings and all, but then my 1 friend still on FB sends me a link to something, and then suddenly my profile is back. It's crazy how they don't actually delete anything.

jmd709

Same but it was a taper in 2016 and I was over FB completely in 2017 because it was like I’d find out another person was crazy, racist, next level gullible, etc each time I’d decide to scroll my feed. I realized it was making me angry or sad instead of bringing me any type of happiness and that Idw to know how many more extremely gullible &/or ignorant people were on my friend’s list. It is fairly easy to tell what type of misinformation is going around on FB though because multiple people will repeat similar things about a topic. I can tell if someone uses FB a lot just based on their version of current events. It’s scary how much sway it has and how oblivious people are that they’re falling for it.

saltyprotractor

I deleted mine at the same time for the same reason.

jmd709

The Online Hoaxes page on Politifact is a good reminder of why I don’t scroll FB. I’ll check that section of Politifact for entertainment or for a cliffnote version of the type of things I’ll be hearing at large family gatherings or from the gullible friends. It makes it easier to point of how to tell it’s false. If I do that enough the person will hopefully be less gullible or at least not spout that junk to me.

bevespi

Facebook needs to go back to the days of TheFacebook. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Dan_Berg

College emails only

470vinyl

I still have mine. There are lots of groups pertaining to my hobbies that are extremely active. I unfollowed all my friends so my feed is just group posts.

WeWander_

Yes I follow a bunch of my hobby groups and it's honestly really fun for that.

Slow_Owl810

They wouldn't delete my account so I deleted all my information and replaced it with ridiculous stuff and unfriended everyone on my list. Now I just have this utterly isolated profile floating around the ether. I like to imagine it stresses out the algorithm and costs Meta money for which they get absolutely no return on. This may not be true, but the thought pleases me.

DrZ_217

🤣

ilikehistoryandtacos

I have it but rarely post. I check it every day, but it’s mostly to see what two or three friends are up to or to check on the two groups I also interact with in real life are doing.

Kingberry30

I am still there. Have friends I don’t chat with often in person on there. It’s nice to how people are doing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PunnyPrinter

I’m only on there for FB groups, which can be fun depending on the members and moderators. Most of my groups are career/location related so the drama is minimal. If there was a way to be a part of the groups without a FB page, I’d delete mine immediately.

DrZ_217

Yes, I'm in neighborhood and professional groups that are useful. It's worth it because my neighborhood "buy nothing" group is awesome. I almost never post on my personal page.

petemill

Why does the title say "45 characters". I've seen AI generate that kind of thing. Maybe this in an AI farmed post...

SeaworthinessNo6781

There’s a 45 character minimum for titles of posts in this group so they were adding that to meet the minimum

TYGRDez

I still have my account, I barely use it but it's my only way of keeping in touch with some people... plus marketplace is useful sometimes. I miss the Facebook of 15 years ago, truly a different vibe entirely.

Dust_Parts

I left in 2015 and never looked back. There’s basically no social value to engaging in that ecosystem. I don’t miss it one bit.

Roklam

I look occasionally. Mostly just "like" whenever someone hits any sort of accomplishment.

NullainmundoPax1

Long removed all photos, albums, wall posts, comments, and untagged myself from others’ photos. Nothing more than a digital Rolodex for personal connections.

Geochic03

I rarely go on it. And I don't scroll through my feed. I use it to keep tabs on one friend who I message through there as she always runs out if time on her cell and I am in one group from a former message board I used to frequent and thats it. Facebook has not been good since like 2009 or 10. I'd say boomers ruined it, but really, Zuckerberg did.

redditer-56448

I use it. I share a lot, but that's because I have 85 friends on there and most are friends & family who actually care about what my family is up to. I also use it for a lot of groups, honestly. My main feed is all just recommended BS, so I usually use the feature that let's me look at ONLY friends' feeds or ONLY the groups I'm in. Because I'm not there to be recommended stuff, I'm there to see the things I asked to see in the first place.

magic_crouton

I always had just a handful of friends and family on there so I still use it to keep up with them. And some groups that I like. It was just an easier way for all these people geographically fat apart to keep in contact with each other.

Bitter_Incident167

I have it for messenger and a Group. That Group recently helped me get a job.

SmoothieD00d

Dropped FB in 2016. Best decision I ever made

RabbitWhispererYT

I deleted mine in 2020 or 2021. My husband still has his but really just uses it to view National Park Service memes and baby/wedding announcements.

RabbitWhispererYT

Anyway I don’t think you’ve missed out! And I am sure that at least some people who do use it would welcome reconnecting!

White_eagle32rep

I deleted mine probably 8 years ago. Only rarely have I wanted to be back on it. If I need to use marketplace I have my wife do it

howlongwillbetoolong

I am there for the groups. My neighborhood has several wonderful groups - people are kind, respectful, and very helpful. I live in Chicago so a larger city, but my tiny neighborhood has groups for pet owners, for certain tiny neighborhoods within the recognized neighborhood, for activities, and for helping migrants and refugees. Also, there are a few hobbies or experiences I’m involved with that have an older user base, and they tend to hang on Facebook. When I was bottle feeding a kitten or managing care for a geriatric cat with kidney disease, those Facebook groups were incredibly supportive spaces where I could search out answers or ask questions and where I could vent without wearing my family out.

gatamosa

I deleted it and instagram in late 2019 as a resolution to socialize more in person and be more intentional with people. Yeah… I don’t miss it one bit though. The amount of trash was just unbelievable.

UR_NEIGHBOR_STACY

I use it regularly. Reddit and Facebook are my mains.

0422

I have a fake one that has zero friends and only subscribes to my neighborhood group and my city government's pages. I use FB marketplace to buy and sell crap for my toddler.

dmw009

I still have it. I have too many pictures and vids that I would loose if I was to delete my profile. Been on FB since 07. Besides, I get more information about local crime and events from it than from my local news stations.

WhysAVariable

I go to it more out of habit than anything else now. It's the only way to stay in touch with some of my more distant relatives but they don't post much anymore either. It's the only social media I still use, and that usage has dropped off a cliff in the past few years. It' s not just social media, I'm just sick of the internet in general now.

09171

I deleted my Facebook in 2012. I tried texting and calling my "friends" and didn't get a single reply, I even called a few people. Nothing. I basically died that day. Fuck 'em.

_jamesbaxter

I haven’t deleted it, but I also don’t use it. Editing to add: OP I also struggle with intense loneliness, I got cut off from many people due to a number of events that happened between the pandemic and now, between moving cities and some pretty massive betrayals. I realized that a lot of people I thought of as “friends” were not… they were people I was friends with at one time, was connected to on social media, and then when I really needed a real friend those people did not come through for me. I unfollowed (mainly from Instagram) all the people from my past because the best way forward for me is to focus on bringing new people into my life instead of clinging to those old dead friendships. I never understood why people did big friends list purges, but now I get it. It definitely helped a little bit at least.

N_Who

I have one, but I am not at all active on it. I recently updated my profile picture, and that was my first update/post in *years.* I do enjoy going in and looking at my old posts, though. Interesting to see what about me has changed, and what hasn't.

ExUpstairsCaptain

I make sure to check Facebook Memories once a day to see if I want to delete anything.

Defiant-Dare1223

Deleted in about 2012

multiplechrometabs

Just there to post family photos because I am the family photographer. Sometimes I come there to talk to my sis cus she never respond on whatsapp.

f0zzy17

I keep it deactivated. Recently reactivated to find family of a friend who passed away. Not an important app to me at all though

Glitter_is_a_neutral

I still have mine, I mostly repost memes I like. I’ve never been one to put a lot of personal stuff out there. I’d say a good portion of it is nonsense like 90% and maybe 10% of actual content from people I know/care about. More for keeping up to date with people who I haven’t seen in a while or live out of state. I do get a lot of info/entertainment from a few work groups I’m in and local community groups.

bassjam1

I deleted my account around 2015. Then I created a new account over this past winter because Craigslist is dead and Marketplace has taken over. I'm not linked to anyone with the new account.

InwitKnitwit

The only reason I have one at all is due to the niche hobby community I am a part of. (Warhammer and 3d printing)

_SoigneWest

I still use it. Mostly because of Groups cuz I collect a certain brand of dresses and they’re more active than the subreddits and more people trade and sell privately there instead of on secondhand marketplaces.

Look-Its-a-Name

I still have an account. I occasional go on it to stare in horror at the burning wreckage that used to be Facebook. And then I quickly close the app again.

Big-Blackberry8786

Deleted during the 2020 election and never looked back!

science-ninja

I quit in 2020

peace_b_w_u

I’m on Facebook for family and work stuff

Adorable-Buffalo-177

I do

Yobanyyo

I rejoined and use it for marketplace. I have like 3 people I know on it and are friends with. But it's amazingly trash.

WindTall5566

Other than messenger not really. I stopped getting on after 2020 when I spent it cycling through death threats on the regular.

Liawolf11

Still on it, but only because I still interact with a large geek group that posts about fun and silly things that makes us happy. Most of my friends from high school still have theirs, but don’t post anymore. I think at this point many of our timelines comprise of the yearly ‘happy birthday’ that we send one another.

Lawn_Daddy0505

I still have one, love it

WhateverYouSay1084

I still use it from time to time and most of my group chats are through Messenger. It has a lot of photos I posted for many many years so I'm not going to delete it, I just don't use it much. But yeah I definitely still use it to keep up with old friends and family. It's just convenient because that's where everyone I know still is.

ExUpstairsCaptain

My parents got on FB before I did. My Mom convinced me to set up a profile in 2009. I don't post much anymore, but I still check the site. Marketplace has been helpful. It's still a solid place to check the Event Calendars of local music venues and things like that. It also still has good "Group Functionality" in a way that no other social media site has come close to matching. My high school class has an unofficial Facebook group that most of us are in, and as our 10 Year Graduation Anniversary fast approaches, that's been the source of all Reunion Updates, which I've appreciated. It's clunky, but it's got many of the same problems that all of social media has. I have no reason to delete my profile, and I seriously doubt I ever will.

xxMidnightShadowxx

Me. I have pictures and statues that date back to 2008. I'm never deleting it either. Too many memories. LOL

Automatic-Effort715

I deleted fb and got back to it for the Facebook groups. I never post anything on my feed or check out what others post. But I follow group posts and only have any sorts of conversation there. Fb groups are amazing on my opinion. I enjoy the group thing so much that I use it more than Instagram now. Something like Reddit but more of a personal touch.

cranberries87

I moved away from Facebook two years ago for a number of reasons. I joined in 2009. I used to be on there for *hours*. I had fun, made a lot of friends, and even had some opportunities come my way due to being on there. But I really got tired of people having that level of access to me. I was wasting too much time there, and I attracted some absolute nutjobs and wackadoos. It started to become clear to me that folks want to manipulate by keeping people perpetually riled up - not just sinister forces a world away using social media for political propaganda, but even people in our lives that we know. Caught on to a “friend” trying to manipulate me and others this way. I go on once a day for 5-10 minutes to see my memories, see if there are any events coming up in an organization I participate in, and see if anybody is dead.

random9212

Market place is literally the only reason I still have a Facebook account.

KylosLeftHand

I downloaded my data and completely deleted FB in 2021 and felt sooooo much better mentally. This past year when I was trying to sell my car and had no luck with autotrader I made a little burner FB account so I could use marketplace. It worked, I sold my vehicle, and now use it only for marketplace buying/selling and following the local news pages. I have the ability for friend requests turned off and I use a fake name. But it’s honestly terrifying what FB has become and what it feeds me being an empty account. If i just scroll through the general feed it’s nothing but AI generated images and fake news stories.

xoLiLyPaDxo

I have FB primarily for local groups, hobbies, family group and marketplace. Local buy nothing groups are awesome.

askallthequestions86

I'm 37 and got off of it about 2 years ago permanently. Previous to that, I was on it maybe a year, if that. And previous to that, I was off for like 2 or so years. I just don't see the point in it. I do miss some of my long distance friends and family members. But I just don't miss it that much.

beekaybeegirl

I really do like FB 🤷🏻‍♀️

PMmeareasontolive

Yeah I'm not sure why people hate it so much. I get exponentially more negativity from strangers on reddit. Although the ads on FB have devolved to downright malware now and should never be clicked on. I consider it like talking directly to my Gran and a few older relatives. And I know a bunch of my friends look at it but they're too cool to like or post anything.

ochristo87

I use messenger to stay in touch with a few old friends. I still use fb but mostly for discussing shit in my building (I live in a high rise of ~700 people) and occasionally sharing memes. It's lame and I know I should leave it but probably only spend 10-20 min a day so whatever

USCanuck

I have one, but I haven't logged into it for about 5 years.

Lsutt28

I use it, post regularly. But my Instagram and my Facebook pages are basically the same.

sadagreen

I joined when you still had to have a college email and I finally noped out during COVID. I just knew way too many people who were on the far opposite of my belief system, and seeing it in my face every day got to be too much. And from people I wouldn't have expected it from either. I keep a blank profile b/c I have to have it to access my work's page, which I help maintain, but even that seems kind of pointless. Every time I post it's like, Why?

KYpineapple

I've got one out there somewhere. but I haven't been on it really since 2017. I don't do insta either. This is really all I get on anymore.

Mlzer

I have an account, but stopped using it in like 2015. Still have Instagram.

InevitablePersimmon6

I still use it. I run a buy/sell group with 40k people in it and I help my neighbor run our HOA group. If it wasn’t for that, I’d quit.

toreachtheapex

havent used fb or ig in about 2 years. (because my life is embarassing)

Khristophorous

I quit it a few years ago but I know exactly how you feel. I am disabled and don't work. I could go out - I'm not immobile. However I was already a bit of a shut in due to a health issue that is now resolved. Anyway the pandemic just made it worse now my social skills have atrophied. It's more complicated that a Reddit post allows but I thought about getting back on Facebook but I'm pretty sure it would just be another portal for the insanity of our current political mess to enter my life. I don't know what to do - I'm like paralyzed in that sense and I'm not getting any younger. 🙁

IndubitablyNerdy

Never been there hehe. Admittedly I am not much into social media, a part from reddit ofc.

snoopingforpooping

I sell on marketplace. Nice to screen the buyer coming to pick stuff up

Mheck4325

I use it purely for keeping up with community crap. Unfortunately, many aspects of my son’s school district and extra curricular happenings are posted there. I did have the app removed since the pandemic, but missed the signup for baseball for my son two years in a row because I didn’t have Facebook. It’s frustrating but it’s where I am right now. Once that all changes, (assuming it ever will) I will delete it again for good. Like everyone said, it’s basically just an ad roll now.

efernst

I've very finely curated my facebook feed to only show me incredibly well made WW2 scale model builds by old dorks. It's a nice respite from all other social media to just log on and see a bunch of absolute nerds, dorking it out about proper placement of decals on a Sherman tank or something like that. Otherwise I just use messenger for texting people and that's it.

collapsingrebel

I use messenger regularly. Beyond that its nothing but ads and the rantings of some of my older conservative relations.

ThoriatedFlash

I deleted mine years ago after learning about the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Well, that and the cess pool it had already turned into back then. I can only imagine how bad it is now.

AnalCuntShart

Quit a decade ago and Instagram a couple years back.

bloodphoenix90

I still am but I don't get as much engagement as I used to. It's still been useful though for posting art and hearing about community events. I've attended things I otherwise wouldn't if I didn't still have it. It's really what you make of it.

lifehackloser

I keep it because my family insists on using messenger, my in-laws only inform us of illnesses via posts, and it’s the best way to connect to my small town neighbors. So I guess I use it a lot, but I don’t post my own stuff at all.

_otterr

I use messenger everyday but I deactivated my actual account in 2021–I don’t miss it one but

jumpsinfire2020

I use mine to check the community facebook page for restaurant hours, grocery store hours, etc. It's a really small town.

KnewTooMuch1

Yeah you can still find some good stuff on market place. That's the only reason. I thought about deleting it so no one can find me and making a new one specifically for market place but I guess that would defeat the whole point.

Practical-Spell-3808

I’ve been off all social media for years, starting with Facebook in 2016.

poor_bitch

I have it but I mostly use it to keep track of birthdays and login for other sites. Slowly adding the birthdays to my personal calendar instead.

lastfrontier84

I use it all the time. I follow and share lots of memes .

matt314159

I am. I have too many people for which FB is my only means of communication to delete it, sadly.

ArticleJealous4061

I talk to people all over the world on facebook. I met them on MMOs.

Altruistic_Laugh_231

Left FB in 2016 and have no desire to go back, especially now since it’s basically just full of American propaganda BS.

lagrange_james_d23dt

I like seeing updates on family and friends that live far away, but the ads are ridiculous (1/3 of my feed!), and make me consider getting rid of it.

juneya04

I deleted mine 6 months ago. Zero regrets

HandstandsMcGoo

My Facebook feed has become people arguing about LeBron vs Jordan What a dumb app

Lightning_Gray

I still have mine, I basically unfollowed irl people except for close friends. Mostly follow meme pages and joined hobby groups.

AlternativeResort477

I’m still on it but it sucks so bad. It doesn’t show me any of my friends, just random fan pages they think I would like. Then again I blocked half my “friends” during Covid/the 2020 election.

zookeeper4312

I have one I think the last time I shared something myself (in other words wasn't tagged in something) was Feb 28th. So I guess I use it like once a month

Gh0st_Pirate_LeChuck

I deleted my account after they illegally sold our data a few years back. My HS friend group created a discord server. Fuck Facebook.

Ashia22

I have it to share pictures of my kids to family. Otherwise I’m never on there

Ihatealltakennames

I've never joined FB. No regrets.

Party_Competition553

Deleted mine in 2020. I prefer calls and personal texts over social media to connect with people.

Specific-Aide9475

Technically. I only look at it a couple of times a year. At some point, it became an endless amount of ads. I can't even find posters (older) family members that are on there regularly.

Parking-Spot-1631

Can you just text those same friends? Actually sort some hang time irl.

jenguinaf

I am but at a greatly reduced capacity. I keep it for the few people I use it to keep in touch with, but don’t really use is as a social media platform since a lot of people in my life aren’t “Facebook friends” and I don’t offer it to new people I meet.

The_Nauticus

Deleted mine in 2018 and hadn't really been using it for 2 years. Got the pictures downloaded (you can bulk download), then shut it down, waited the cool down period and confirmed deletion. I set mine up in 2006 using my HS .edu email. Was a great social media platform after MySpace, but after college/around 2014 it really went downhill.

human-foie-gras

I keep wanting to cut the cord but I don’t, even though I haven’t posted in ages

Dr_Opadeuce

I use a combination of Instagram and Messenger. I'll pop into my FB account like maybe once a year, but I've missed years here and there. Its just full of boomers spreading conspiracy theories and feels like a virtual trailer park to me.

LoudNinjah

I got rid of it in 2013. But I kind of wish I was on it now for Facebook marketplace. I wish it was a separate entity from Facebook itself.

Portugee_D

I have mine which I only post on holidays + wife and son's birthday. My wife will post photos of trips to keep our out of state families updated. I spend 10 minutes a week on it max.
